  • Sclera (morph)

In Blender you used Proportional Edit to create your custom skin morph. But you did not hide (I guess) the eyes at all time and some of the skin shape modifications you did also influenced parts of the eyes' wireframe.

Eyes are composed of multiple layers of geometry and what you see here is the eyemoisture pulled inside the sclera (or the sclera pulled out). It's a geometry issue.

You need to edit your mesh again in Blender and be sure that both sclera and eyemoisture meshes do not intersect each other.

My advice would be to import the base genesis again in Blender. Create a shape key. Then import your custom morph, define it as a second shape key on the base genesis, but limiting your modifications to the skin (and gums/teeth eventually if it's ok down there). You can then create a third shape key to position the eyes properly in their socket, but selecting the whole eye with all its different parts, not moving its geometry with Proportional Editing.

I do imagine that, eventially, there will be morph transfer scripts similar to those done by RiversoftArt. It may take time, but I suspect the morph transfer market will be too big to ignore for more than one script writer. G8 has gone on for a long time & the value of assets is too huge for them to languish without use while being replaced by the new generations.

I hope that is true. I think a lot of people would appreciate the ability to keep their story characters alive without having to re-create them.

  • Sclera (morph)

Hi all, I'm trying to do a facial morph - I'm exporting from blender.
All went well, except for the eyes. How do I get these weird semi-transparent spots out of the way?
I tried poking at all the settings in Surface, but eventually realized that it's most likely a polygon problem, because the Geometry Editor highlights these joints. How do I fix it?

    Help, please!

  • huge time loss on loading G8f for 'Formula output property not found'

The easiest solution is to keep removing the files at the end of the warning message, in your sample warning the "Arm Length.dsf"
Although, I find it surprising that a morph in Zev0's Shape Shift would be looking for any morphs in a XTransfer created morph file...

You could try to to fix the issues by downloading the latest versions of for example the Shape Shift first, to see if the problem has been fixed already.

  • Anyone else feeling like this after G9 reveal?

I definately caught a case of the mehs

I wouldn't say it's a case of the mehs for me, I do like things being released but I just don't feel very confident about how much use I will actually get from them considering the "uncertain future" of genesis 8 stuff atm (imho)

I do not expect problems with the clothing, but footwear and body textures may end up being incompatible.

I'm really hoping they (some PA or Daz itself) are working on some sort of UV sets to make G8 textures compatible with G9 because that's a whole bunch of characters I won't trash.

The unified mesh does have it's benefits, but otherwise I was left wondering, how was the mesh 'better' than on G8/G8.1.

Separate meshes for the eyes and mouth... If the problem was that people didn't know how not to make unintended changes to them, how are those same people now going to avoid gaps, overlaps and alignment issues between them and the head

Again, not really the intention of making this a thread talking about G9 itself, but to quickly answer you, a bunch of stuff like mesh collision and dformers actually work on the base mesh only and the subd just tries its best to adapt to the changes made to the base mesh. A higher base mesh poly count means much better deformations. And about the eyes and mouth being separate, the main benefit is that they won't get subdivided unnecesarily along the figure itself.

I haven't even fully embarked the G8.1 train yet, so the inclination to hop on the G9 one is at zero right now (and in the foreseeable and even not so forseeable future).

To be honest, I didn't have this issue with G8.1, you can use everything from G8 on it, except expressions but then again I almost never use premade expressions so it wasn't an issue for me. So it didn't really made me feel wary of buying more stuff.

While its not always the case, I have an eternal optimism that "newer" means "better", and it usually applies* to technological advancements.  So I am looking foward to what G9 will bring to the table, especially in light of Daz5 getting closer to release.
To that end, I have pretty much stopped buying G8/8.1 stuff.  I'll buy G9 and related as my fancy gets tickled, and I have my fingers crossed that Daz5 will help solve the morph loading issue (I am almost at 20 minutes load time) so I won't have a repeat of G8 with the New figure

I mean, I am expecting good things from G9 too, and hopefully Daz5... whenever it gets released... but it's been quite a bit of money invested in G8 in my case, so I do need to know I will be able to keep using that stuff without pretty much having to redo the rigging, morph corrections, weight mapping, etc, for every single thing myself or having to trash all characters textures I already have. I do expect good things from G9, just not that much.

...Still buying stuff for any generation as I will still use any of the Genesis clans. Not a believer in converting 'everything' to every other G# in existence. However I also expect that one way or another most clothing can be made to fit any of the other figures. Where there's a will, there's a way ;-)

Depends on what you make, I guess. Some works do require certain consistency you won't get using so different figure generations, and some clothing would basically need a full rework to make them fit newer gens. I tried once to convert some V4 outfits to G8 and they just didn't want to fit very well, specially the shoes and gloves. Sure, it IS posible, but that's quite a bit of time you need to basically redo the outfit and not exactly the main appeal of Daz, isn't it? Sure, I will go the extra mile to make outfits fit properly by making morphs for my characters on MD or blender but, almost making it from the ground up? Nah... don't have the time.

And it's not a Renderosity product.

  • Heads and Faces...Can we, at least, keep our Heads???

...OK the first is the version of Leela which comes the closest to the drawings I did of her when I could still hold a pencil steady done with G3 and a fusion of G7 characters..  After a drive crash in which I lost everything, I had to rebuild her from scratch, and as I no longer had the morph settings this was the best I could com up with after several attempts.  Finally here's one of her I recently created off G8.jsut as a test.

Again the first one is how I always imagined her, but after several weeks just couldn't get the same appearance.

  • Heads and Faces...Can we, at least, keep our Heads???

It isn't that difficult to make a head morph by oneself in Blender, it can be done with just the basic tools. Just align the heads of the source figure and the target figure and start moving the vertices of the target, so that they match the position of the source.
With mirroring on, there are not that many vertices on half a head

  • AI is going to be our biggest game changer

...someone on page 1 of the thread (I skipped through to the last page as I saw it began two years ago) mentioned about "neural interface" (actually referred to as "direct neural Interface" or DNI)  With DNI ,you theporetically connect yourself into a computer system via a data interface implant like a micro jack or array of EEG induction pads which transfer thought signals to the AI which would interpret and translate them into digital signals so you can create fully rendered images with your mind. The AI would also serve as a feedback buffer to shield the individual from any instability that may arise from the hardware end.

I have no doubt it will eventually come to that sometime in the near future, but unlike AI created art, it would put the individual artist back in full control again,  simply removing the physical interfaces we depend on today. Of course such a process would involve a fairly steep learning curve that would require a form of mental discipline to avoid random thoughts and distractions from interfering.

Yeah, I've read too much William Gibson and seen too may cyber future films, but then, we now have "personal communicators" that we can pull out of our pocket and talk to anyone on the world with which were once a trope of a certain old Sci-Fi series over a half century ago..

  • Heads and Faces...Can we, at least, keep our Heads???

Morphs are dependent on geometry, and not just the geometry of the head. In order for morphs to be compatible between generations, Daz would basically need to have stopped producing new figures. The question then becomes: which figure should have been the last one?

There are converters, and those work with varying degrees of success. It's pretty easy to transfer between G3 and G8 because they have virtually the same geometry, but go even one generation farther back and things can get pretty dicey.

  • Anyone else feeling like this after G9 reveal?

I'm not hating on G9, I have my complaints (like how details like the nipples are now basically forced to be HD morphs but still not releasing the HD morph importing tool for everyone... greaat... can't see how that's not going to be an issue...)

and I can also see how it will make some things better (nice base mesh, eyes and mouth separate meshes) but... ever since the reveal I don't feel very inclined to spend on Daz stuff anymore. I mean, other than stuff not dependent on characters like environments, tools, etc.

On one hand I don't want to spend on G9 until there are good, working tools for using G8 stuff on it. I've spent a lot of money on G8, not being able to use them reasonably easy on G9 is going to be a deal breaker for me.

On the other hand, even if we eventually get those tools, it's going to be a chore converting eeeverything to G9 so if I'm going to make the jump then I rather not get more G8 stuff I will have to convert and just wait until G9 starts getting more "native assets".

Anyone else feeling like this "wait and see" kind of state since then? Mind you... I think it's going to be a whiiile until G9 actually starts being "viable".

  • Creating surfaces on a new item

So we have our tool setting menu. I know that you have loaded your obj so you don't really need to know this but for anyone else, you can either use the bridge if using a program like zbrush or hexagon or you can go to file /import.

I want to show you that there is a difference though between the two methods. The zbrush bridge for example doesn't include face groups in the transfer but if you export and then load it as an object it will include the face groups.

You might be wondering why we would need the face groups when doing surfaces and  I will explain it in the post where I talk about the next steps.

As you can see both look the same in the viewport.

Here's the one from the bridge transfer and you'll see there are just default surfaces.

Same sword using a different import method and there are face groups. This will become important further on.

Free Summer Bikini and Voss Hair. smiley

Kinda hope there is something more but I doubt it, I don't really care too much for either.

The bundle does say it includes hair from outoftouch, one of my favorite hair vendors.

They used to be one of mine, but no bones, no dforce and no strand based hair.

I haven't bought their hair for a couple of years now.

Zbrush and the bridge is a game-changer.  smiley

If an item has bones it's not too bad, but often times with morphs I spend more time fiddling around finding the right ones vs. just shooting it over to Zbrush, make some quick changes, and shoot it back over as a new morph.

I'm happy to help with testing if you still need it.

All the suggestions I would make have already been said. I think Catherine's idea of pJCM's sounds like a good one.

Quick question on making clothing for Genesis these days is pJCM's the equivalent of a JCM in the figure or is there a finer distinction? and is the naming used in the morph name and I'm assuming they need to be hidden?

  • Diffeomorphic DAZ Importer version 1.6.0 released

The morph database is useful because it can "optimize" the morph chains. That is, if you have A driving B driving C usually you need to load all of them for the figure to work. With the database diffeomorphic will try to bake the morph chain in a single morph, when possible. Personally I tend to import as few morphs as possible for the figure to work, so I mostly don't need the new features.

@surody Will look into it and let you know what I find. The last time I tried everything worked fine here.

Have you snatched characters from those sites too?

And, and, have you used FaceGen before - to roll your own characters.

That's a nice way to get other facial shapes.

    And, and....and.....

What kind of comics do you make?

Well, if you can't NAME "Osity and Hub", can you private message me with the links? I think that I know what you are referencing and if so, Hub is almost all G8 and Osity doesn't seem to offer many characters. They seem to be more into accessories such as clothing, hair, shaders, etc.

I don't have FaceGen but I do have Face Transfer Unlimited [ https://www.daz3d.com/face-transfer-unlimited ] which appears to do the same thing.

Oh, and with regards to what kind of comics do I do, this is what has been said about me and my comics : "... the author has a very distinct visual style and spins a good yarn with a unique blend of adventure, mystery and humor to create very entertaining tales that are fun and enjoyable to read ..." -- I invite you to check them out = https://theneverendingstory.thecomicseries.com/ and let me know what you think and if you like them, consider subscribing.
