  • AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE QUATTORDICI

  • Twists Bun for Genesis 9: Not Loading Scalp

That looks like a Filament preview. Have you tried actually doing a full Iray render of the scene? The product says it used a combination of strands and polygonal modeling. Strand hair will not show up in a preview like that. Please do a full render.

  • Help With Glowing Things in Viewport?

I like filament but the default options are a blown out mess. My default scene has a filament draw options node and camera settings that I like. I use the attached settings for general use stuff and get a reasonable match between viewport and iray renders.

  • Make the Filament drawstyle selector actually do something...

    Hi gang!

    The issue

So, I'm one of the users who really enjoys working with Filament from time to time, it's actually one of my favorite render engines for quick results. If you check the customize pane (F3) you'll notice this option under the "Viewport DrawStyles" header and it even has a keyboard shortcut assigned to it.

The only problem: this option doesn't work, unlike all the others such as 'Texture Shaded', 'Wireframe' and even 'Iray' works as intended.

    Suggestion

Fix the broken Filament option within the Viewport DrawStyles section so that we can finally use a toolbar button or a keyboard shortcut to switch to it. We can switch between all the other drawstyles except Filament and it seems odd to me that this option has been broken for so long.

    Thanks for reading!

nearly all my animated videos use png alpha image series of characters

not always compiled im a video editor, unlike DAZ studio, Carrara, iClone and other softwares (including Blender) support animated textures so I use billboards rendered in DAZ studio iray

(I leave the ground shadow off if going to be a billboard)

a lot of my scenes are parallax too

similar to what Dartanbeck did but I actually place the rendered background, mid and foreground planes of buildings, tree etc in the scene

That looked pretty fluid.  That was made with hundreds of PNG stills?  That's impressive.  If I did more animation I think I would try filament.  Haven't really tried it yet.  It's fast.

3 image series (yes thousands all up) and an AI generated BG made into a 3D plaque using a depth map

https://convert.leiapix.com/#/local/1 + Zbrush Alpha to mesh

the depth map thing doable with renders too but I use Carrara or Octane render as iray canvases never worked for me

Why would people use a limited version  enough to test it? Anyway, I would expect there will be a series of Public Builds before a first gold release, as there was with DS.

I assume, perhaps wrongly, that people would like to test the things that DAZ thinks are ready to be used in D|S 5 with the knowledge that some things aren't ready yet, such as releasing a "Here's DAZ Studio 5 with these new features to try out, but Blah, Blah and Blah aren't quite ready for prime time yet, so if you need those stick with 4.2.x.x for now". I'd use a limited version (mind you, at this point how limited would it be if they had a very limited version ready two years ago?) to finally, fully test Filament after three years, I'd use a limited version to see what improvements I'd get with some of Apple's metal API implemented makes. I'd love to see if they managed to make it Apple Silicon native (which should only bump the speed up by 15% or so, but I'll take it), and so on.

I'm sure there's people who'd like to try out Omniverse, even if some of their plug-ins might not be ready yet.

You're correct, I'm sure there will be a series of Public Builds  before a Gold Release. Honesty, I'm just feeling a little worn out with waiting. After an almost Pre-Beta version 26 months ago (which is different from an Alpha version?) I had hoped two years would be enough to move from a pre-beta to a beta. There are things I've actually been anticipating, but that's my fault for having unrealistic expectations.

Still, it's been over two years since the almost release of the pre-beta and there's been no word on when D|S 5 can be expected. Instead, we're getting new features in 4.22 and we're working through the bugs with those which, once all the bugs are quashed, still might not be bug-free when D|S 5 is released anyway as that version may introduce new bugs.

I guess I got my hopes up a bit when the emali header mentioned new features while announcing a new version that turns out to be 4.22, not 5.0. That's 100% on me, and I really should know better.

    Your viewport are in Filament.

Either chage to texture shaded, or create a Filament Draw Options node and adjust Environment Intensity Scale. Would suggest 5000 and see how that looks.

While crosswind's direction helped, I would really love to know what you said here and how to apply suggested options you have mentioned. (Lol) I have no idea what I'm doing.

As for me, every 10 years or so I lose interest and take a break for a couple years. You could say I lose my mojo. I'm headed there now. I bought a lot last couple of sales, but lately the offerings in the store are just not striking my fancy. I feel that the best days for this hobby might be behind us, but who's to say ;). I thought I could stick around until DS 5, but that looks less and less likely as it's been years since we've heard anything and I don't have the stamina to stick around a few more years to find out. LOL

What are we expecting in DS 5 that has people so eager to get it? You are right; it has been so long since it was officially talked about, I have completely forgotten what the hype was. I remember a blurb about Omniverse a few months ago, but I have no inkling how that would apply to anything I do.

I think Omniverse is the onlly thing actually touted so far; as a Mac user I'm looking forward to giving Filament a solid run for its money as I'm currently using OpenGl when I do animation; as well, Mac users have been told D|S 5 will use Apple's Metal for "some things" and DAZ was hoping to have it run native on Apple Silicon, but that was over two years ago (when they had a bare-bones pre-Beta working), so who knows what their goal post is now... or for next year... or the year after...

On the plus side, I stopped doing my usual DAZ assets purchasing when the pre-Beta was cancelled – thinking I'd wait to see what DAZ Studio 5 actually bought to the table – and I've saved enough in the last two years to be able to pick up a higher-end Windows system, should I ever decide to go to the blue side...

Stop the presses. G8 aniblocks are now butter-smooth and realtime in the viewport.

Hi Gordig, that started my press! A big improvement in animation playback would definately make it worth the risk to update DS, IMO. Question: Is this improvement evident in the Filament drawstyle? And, how many figures can move at once? Thanks! / peace

I use DS almost exclusively as a platform for exporting Daz assets to C4D and Houdini these days, so I can't go too in-depth about a lot of the other changes. I just had the idea to see if they improved aniblock performance, and it looks like they have.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like you weren't testing in Filament. Anyway, it s seems promising. And thanks for all your tutorials!/ Has anybody tested 4.22 with aniblocks in Filament? Thanks / peace

Just gave it a quick test, and it looks like Filament is just as quick as texture shaded, but unfortunately the benefits seem to vanish if you have anything on the figure, potentially anything else in the scene. Adding clothing to the figure, even with smoothing disabled, slows payback down considerably.

Thanks very much for testing! I have an i7 11th gen @ 2.5 ghz, 32 Gig ram, and an nvidia 3060 ti, which seems like it should be good enough for DS display. Texture shaded is always faster than Filament, so if they're now equal, that would indicate an improvement, even if you can't add much to the scene and maybe get away with a tiny bit of generic smoothing:) I look for lower poly legacy hair that's easier to reproduce and take out their opacity layers etc. Sometimes it actually looks ok, but not at every angle. Thanks again Gordig.                                    windli3356 said:  4. some users mentioned aniblock and animation flow for gen 8 are butter smooth in 4.22, unfortunately it's not the case for me, all my Gen8 characters still rigged jankily on my top of the line hardware, 0 improvement for me in this area. ///////// I missed this post before, and i'm sorry to hear the response, but as stated earlier, maybe there's some improvement. There is the theory that the more morphs loading with your figure (even at 0 level) the slower the response.  I haven't tested that, but maybe that adds to the different experiences DS users have.  / peace
