  • DAZ 4.23 & Filament

    Thanks, Rich

Just for my own curiousity, is there any visible editable changes to the behavior of Filament that we can play with in 4.23 (i.e. opacity, emissives, shadow softness, etc...).

There has been a lot of work done towards a Filament Toon shader recently (along with other Filament fixes), is it now available in 4.23?

  • Mane on lion not rendering

    Hi.

I just purchased this item: https://www.daz3d.com/felidae-by-am--lion

It's a lion, it's supposed to have a mane, but when rendering with iRay or filament the mane doesn't show. I see it in the viewport when I have any style other than viewport or iRay selected. But it doesn't render. In filament I do see a bit of the mane. Am I missing something? See attached screenshot.

And by the way, I use iClone a lot and there's a way to contact the content seller through their website. Is it possible in Daz's website too?

    Thanks.

  • Mud and Mud Wrestling Props for Genesis 8 and 8.1

Looks like this product was removed from the store so presumably a PA that was moved elswehere.

There still seems to be a manual on the Daz Wiki currently tho - does this help? 80703_mud_and_mud_wrestling_user_guide.pdf

    According to that:

There are two ways of muddying up clothing:
    1. Use one of the Mud Iray Decal Nodes OR
    2. Apply the Mud Shader Preset to the surface of the clothes.
The Iray Decal node gives the best results. It is Iray only. If you want to see the results in another engine, such as Filament, use the shader approach

EDIT: According to the filelist you should already have this PDF in the "Readme's" folder of your library where this product is installed.

If I convert a figure using the Premier tool, I'm allowed to use that converted figure if I don't keep the subscription? Or it will stop working along with the plugin? A more backward compatibility is planned (namely, support for G1 and G2  F/M figures)?

About the Render Queue, it can render image sequences in 3Delight and Filament? Or it's binded only to IRay?

The Blender export works on anything or only on few G9 Figure morphs?

I am concerned about the same thing.
If when I stop my subscription, the projects I have produced up to that point will no longer work, then I feel unsafe using a subscription.

As far as I know the conversions don't depend on the plug-in, so that would not matter. Only things thata re actiuvely dependent on the tool would be unusable.

I see, so I still can't use the project, even if I created it.
So I have to be careful when I use plug-in functions..
     It's a difficult problem.

I said as far as I know the conversions are not dependent - you don't need the plug-in to be active to use them.

     Thanks for the replies.

I am not interested in CONVERTER at the moment.
I'm not even worried about it, as I think I could probably use the converted data as long as it is saved.

I am concerned about the plug-ins I use to create scenes etc.
This is because I would be in trouble if scenes created with the premium version are not backwards compatible.
Therefore, I would like a feature comparison list.
I am also concerned about post-use compatibility, not only now, but also for plug-ins that will be added to the premium version in the future.

The converted figures will be either saved as sub-set or DSF files... etc. then they'll have nothing to do with the converter plugin anymore, so they can always work without subscritpion.

About the Render Queue, it can render image sequences in 3Delight and Filament? Or it's binded only to IRay?

All ~~ it depends on the engine you choose in Render Settings... Viewport (Filament, 3DL ), OpenGL or Iray. However, I don't think one can mix them together in a full render queue.

The Blender export works on anything or only on few G9 Figure morphs?

As for exporting to Blender, it's still the Daz to Blender bridge, working for Genesis figures and static Env / Props... nothing has been changed so far (no updated version of DTB, still 2023 ver1.1)

Edit: I just got the update of DTB, brand new version + UI (2024 ver2.8.63), they work in both Premier and non-Premier for Blender 4.2 ~~

  • I screwed up my default settings

If the Viewport is using the Iray (of Filament) Drawstyle those nodes will be created, or if you do an Iray render - they won't be created if, as in the creenshot, the Viewport if using a non-PBR mode.

As for the grid, it is there but it matches the background colour and so doesn't show (you would see it if you added a model to the scene and lowered it below floor level). You can set the Viewport background colour in Window>Style>Customise Syle (under 6. Viewports).

I'm not sure if I can share my version (I don't want any trouble with Daz or Nvidia), but I think there will be a proper version soon. This shader is easier to use and give better results, so I'm sure (I hope!) it will become the main shader.

You are entitled to share it. It's arguably tantamount to a preset that is referencing the mdl already in Daz Studio's Shader's folder.

I too suspect something is coming from Daz Studio soon because why else would no Daz PA vendors have made their own shader? But at the same time i wouldnt be surprised if they never release anything.  The Chiang fur mdl was in the iray shaders folder for years and they never released anything for that and eventually I had to make one.

    yeah this

someone had to create a triplaner shader for me because the brick DAZ added to shadermixer on its own was less than helpful to someone not versed in Shadermixer though I try blush

it's somewhere on this forum if you Google search and are interested

likewise the new Filament ambient glow brick, I cannot use it, I want to

  • Using Daz Studio as a cpu stability benchmark - Within 2-3 minutes.

Can Daz Studio be used as a system stability benchmark? Now I know this question's answer as a fact. I would like to share my findings with Daz Community for the interested people.

I'm trying to get a stable system for my 13900ks for a while. Changing parameters there-there, retry, good or bad.

After many months of try-failure, I noticed something interesting:

    System boots - ok

    Memtest86 - ok

    Cpu-z bench - ok

prime95 bench AND torture test (with 1,2,8,24 tested cores, in order)  - ok

    latest cinebench - ok

    Cyberpunk benchmark - ok

This benchmark ok, That benchmark ok...

Daz Studio iray rendering performance benchmark is also OK

But a another magic in Daz studio - *CRASH*

Wow, but how? What kind of combination is the absolute kicker than even of the most taxing benchmarks? Here is the deal:

    Pre-requirement scene (The *stress* scene):

    - Switch to a multiple viewport view. 2 is enough.

    - Toss in 2-3 HD characters from your library and dress them.

    - Put on a hair on them, preferably one that has smoothing on by default and something very detailed / taxing.

    - Make sure the viewport subd of each character is at least 3. Also, make sure the clothings have smoothing ON (parameters of this doesn't matter, just have it on)

    - Load an hdr sky.

    - Create 2 cameras, one looks characters from front-side (i.e: 75 degrees), to be able to see them all, the other camera looks to the characters from a side view.

    - Create -> "New Filament Draw Options Node..." and then modify its settings as such:

Change everything that was set to low or medium to "ultra" or "high" first, whichever is the max (except SSAO Upsampling - set to medium). Then; Generate texture mipmaps - off, anti-aliasing MSAA - 16, ISO Scale - 0.33, Shadow type - dpcf, Shadow map size - 4096, Shadow Cascades - 4, Bloom Strength - 0.5, Bloom Resolution - 4096, Bloom levels - 12, Blend Mode - Interpolate, Bloom Quality - High

    - Save the scene and exit.

    The benchmark:

After your new cpu settings (or current one if you want to give it a go), with a freshly booted OS:

    - Launch Daz Studio. Load the *stress* scene.

    - Switch to filament drawstyle in all of the views. Switch to Camera 1 in one view, Camera 2 in the other.

    - Switch to translate tool (not activepose).

    - Hold a random limb (hand/feet) from a random character and start moving in big circles slowly. Do this for 15-30seconds.

    - BOOM if not stable.

Once the pre-requirement scene is ready, this is the fastest and most "taxing" benchmark I've ever found. Nothing else I had / tried came close.

I actually understood it as a way to use Nvidia Omniverse shaders in DAZ studio

just like a Filament brick has also been added to make it possible to create shaders for that render engine

    but

sadly none of it is very user friendly for people not well versed in building stuff in Shadermixer like me blush

I have looked but it's all out of my league, I feel as though Shadermixer could do with a lot more documentation like other node systems have such as the ones used in Unreal Engine or Blender where you can at least get some suggestions of how to link those bricks up to create a shader

Sorry, I didn't see your message before posting mine.

It's the same situation as the one we spoke about a year ago (here) but thank to Flipmode's answer, I now know that in both situations, it's a bug in Daz Studio 4.21.0.5 which is solved by using a more recent version.
