I have no need for it at all, but the new Daz+ release, SE Nekobini Cafe, is super cute.

so guessing the editorial license is no longer a thing at least for new stuff now cause I've seen a lot of that as real physical products sold in various stores, doing a google lens search found out the name of the cat Maneki-Neko and doing a search of that found out about the different versions/meanings pretty cool and all those little figurines the cat, mice, puppies, mugs, pillows Space Elsa has ctreated something special and at that price too so glad didn't cop the EL Japan has some great themed cafes/places

The Maneki-neko is a famous Japanese good-luck cat figurine that features a raised paw, a gold coin, and various symbolic colors.

    Paw Meanings

    • Right paw raised: Invites money and good fortune.
    • Left paw raised: Welcomes many customers and friends into a shop or home.

    Color Meanings

    • White: Brings general happiness and purity.
    • Gold or Yellow: Attracts wealth and business success.
    • Black: Wards off evil spirits and illness.
    • Red or Pink: Protects health or invites love.

Maneki-Neko is a very common item and there are no copyright issues related to its use, unless the Maneki-Neko looks like the one from Pokémon.

I can hardly believe this is a Daz+ product. The whole row of ceramic animals in the back, complete with dogs and mice, is such an exquisite scene. The color scheme perfectly captures the Japanese "kawaii" style. Space-Elsa is now one of my favorite artists.

wow that's really cool to know that something so common isn't copyrighted when just about anything and everything is now days even the happy birthday song this is a really nice looking product with so much in it,

The lack of transparency is the problem. I feel most sorry for the forum mods who seem to be as in the dark as the rest of us as currently they are the only face for these issues.

There are problems not only with QG and OS, but also with the weekly and monthly freebies for membership: they have now been announced on the forum and not on the dedicated page and are not free, and the moderator has asked for patience. Perhaps the DAZ site is experiencing a more general problem, which we users are unaware of.

Both freebies were free on the page and in the cart for me an hour ago (when I first checked Daz) and still are, so it might be a caching issue.

  • Daz Studio and Linux

    @tsroemi

Makes The Odyssey look like a stroll down to a local shop! Unfortunately you're dealing with hardware that I'm pretty sure no one else here has ever used or has access to so I think you're absolutely right to take it to a forum where people really do know what they're talking about. Half the battle is knowing which questions to ask and you clearly do - anything I or anyone else could offer is something you are perfectly capable of discovering yourself so, yes, take this to the experts.

Issues with Daz under Linux (and there are potentially many!) we can help with. Thunderbolt-linked eGPUs on a gently ageing Mac with Manjaro... not so much!

    Viel Erfolg!

  • Need Daz Guru to help me Set Up my New Computer Base Directory with DIM-Resolved- Gurus for the Win!

    Hello Daz Gurus;

I come to you all out of desperation.   I put a help ticket into the Tech Support an entire week ago with no response yet.   No response...

I followed a video's instruction on setting up the DIM and Daz files on a new computer and this failed too.    After this I tried to get help on the Technical Support Forum here and just could not follow what they were trying to say.  Sometimes people who know a lot can not articulate well to a person who does not making a nomenclature disconnect is the best way I can describe it.

The problem is I have a fast solid state C drive where I want my Rendering to take place.  I have a super large D drive (but slower of course) where I stored all of my Daz files from my old computer.

I need somebody ((And I will pay you for your time as I am not presently destitute by any means)) to look at my paths and get them to match correctly for DIM and the Daz 6 Base Directory.  This seems straight forward enough but I'm having problems getting my old runtime files to match.   Someone told me that I had embedded a directory within the Base Directly and Daz doesn't like this.

My email is [email removed - PMs do not require exposing your address]  I'm willing to talk by telephone or other video conferencing techniques that allows you gurus to see how my computer is laid out.  I know how to send screne shots too.  We can discuss a rate of your choice (as long as it ain't crazy high) and I will gladly pay you through Paypal or send you a check etc.

I'm desperate at this point and need an expert to get me up and running again.   If I can just get the old files in the new D drive correctly in the Base Directory and have DIM matched I think everything will be fine.   As it is right now All of the Daz stuff installed but I'm missing most of my morphs and textures so there was a issue of my own making there.

Please help me out and I will compensate you for your time.

Perhaps he saw you comment on a piece of gear on a forum somewhere where you use that name.  I dunno, but if you have a synth or some other piece of audio gear, that might even give a clue as to what episode I saw it in, since it might be related to a piece of gear you own, and that he did a video about.

Sure, it might not be you.  But who else do you know who goes by the 'Wendy Loves Cats' phrase?

  • Hitchens: A DAZ Studio to Blender Live Link

Yo TheMysteryIsThePoint, Let me help with your marketing... smiley (in case anyone is getting notifications from this thread)!

Hitchens, the (roughly) "bring animatable scene elements back from Blender into DAZ Studio 4.x" feature addition of TheMysteryIsThePoint's latest Sagan Alembic Export Tool is now released for use and feedback! Follow this link to get Sagan 5, and maybe keep an eye on this nearby-forum-thread relating to Sagan itself (a working alembic format exporter plugin for DS 4.x) for comments, details, bug reports, etc.

The best description I've found (back in this forum topic's pages) looks something like (from a while back):

It is intended to get just enough into Blender so that one can animate with IK and layers, and be able to have characters interact with each other, precisely. That means the mesh is at base res for speed, and the JCMs are only needed at certain frames, say, one character is touching another. Then, get the animation back to DS, precisely as it was in Blender. Once the animation is back in DS, I can export it through the usual ways, i.e. Diffeo or Sagan, or the upcoming LotP at render time.

Rather than re-invent some of the key transfer/conversion elements, TheMysteryIsThePoint has wisely leveraged the brilliance of Thomas Larson 's (w help/support from Padone) nearby diffeomorphic tool to take care of many of the fine-tuned conversion functions in a symbiotic manner.

Not having work through the new Hitchens release yet, I believe this tool can (or will someday) run DS in the background, to take advantage of DS specific capabilites (like a plugin, just kind of bigger-ish), then those results can be moved forward in a way that supportseach user's project needs.

Let us all know how you get along with it if you check it out. I'm just starting to dive in and figure out how the gears work together, so i'm not at all useful for feedback yet, but my goal here is to help get the word out and let folks know it's live and ready to play with. A lot of work went into this, so it would be great to see those efforts result in cool outputs and time-savings for those that dive in!

I'm hoping that my experiments will enlighten me enough to result in a quick use-case/tutorial that will shine a spotlight on the end-to-end use-case and ultimate value of this project.

Note that Sagan, Hitchens, and Diffeomorphic are all open-source volunteer projects that make DS a better tool for all of us. In that spirit, please share your experiences (good or bad) so we can all benefit, trading hacks and ideas, making these tools more useful and used by everyone.

TheMysteryIsThePoint, thanks again, and, if I've missed anything or gotten any of it wrong here, let me know ASAP and I'll edit/tweak things until our info is correct/complete.

    best,

    --ms

If items don't suit you you can pass on them. You can also, as suggested, just use them from certain camera angles where they do work or you can kit-bash multiple peoducts to build the set-up you need. Even when items are "sensible" or, in as far as the term can apply, realisitc you may still need to use one or both of those techniques to get the results you want. That doesn't mean you can't point out elements that strike you as design issues, for example in https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/762591/let-s-appreciate-discuss-today-s-new-releases-ongoinger-still-further-thread#latest

So we shouldn't talk about our impression how a product could have been made better to serve our personal needs, right? At least that is what I take from your post. Or is it that all criticism of any products should be done in a "catch them all" thread, than in a thread dedicated only to that item only, which would make a discussion about it easier, IMHO.

Just asking, so I know how to post here in the forum in the future.

This seems to be a somewhat hyperbolic catch-all thread, so pointing to a thread for dusicussing new reeleases in general seems reasonable.

  • medieval interior/exterior construction kit

imagine my best oliver twist impression: please sir may i have a medieval interior/exterior construction kit?

i tried digging through the product suggestion forum and the general forum search to no avail, so after much frustration i’m posting this to 1) put it out into the world in the hopes that a pa with an interest in working on such kits might see it; and 2) see if anyone has any better searching skills or kit and/or kitbashing suggestions.

what i’m wanting/looking for is a kit that allows for both interior and exterior medieval/fantasy scenes, with realistic textures/materials. everything i've been able to find/buy seems to be either/or. i’d like to be able to construct buildings and houses like little moreton hall, a wealden house, a tudor style cottage, or just a general timber-framed house, and be able to go from a commoner’s house to a noble’s with the occasional palace/castle. also a kit with stairs because i did not expect this to be one of my bigger issues but please my god i need (wood) stairs that can work for interior medieval scenes.

i already own faveral’s mick, the alchemist’s medieval village & village houses construction kits (with mansions on my wishlist), and a good chunk of enterables’ catalogue, but like i said, i’m getting frustrated and there’s only so much with them that i can do. i also already have bradcarsten's castle creator on my wishlist and own roguey and strangefate's red crow inn, little crows, and medieval bedroom to attempt kitbashing with--but, again, frustrations abound.

sooo, dear pa's: pretty pretty please?

everyone else: if you've got suggestions, please share.

  • FBX Conversion

Depending on the models complecity as well as how the they were made, rigging automotives / planes etc. can be a bit challenging... the workload may also vary. If you just need to use them as static objects, you don't need to rig them. Import FBXs, convert them to props and/or figures, assign the texture maps, then save as Scene Subset.

If you do need to rig them for tranlating / rotating the parts of them, you may take a look at this product : https://www.daz3d.com/rigging-vehicles-and-mechs-in-daz-studio I ever learnt a lot from them. There're some simple tutorials on youtube, you may search there.. e.g. https://youtu.be/NH6sg-pMppU?si=ROvFOaNqwAbALI2a

           https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIxH2Ilf9D8&list=PLPcx_LSSGfZfhDCty973OQjnXLugQtoEE

Edit: Rigging process is not difficult but most of the time just tedious ~~
