Hey, everyone. Since we don't have any morph packs yet, I took Genesis 9 into Blender, sculpted in shapes and details, including veins, loaded the base-res as a morph, and also baked out normal maps. I'm just wondering what more I might be able to do with this workflow and these materials. I am likely going to create color maps in Substance with some Texture XYZ details projected, etc., but my main question is how usable is all of this within Daz Studio.
I've always used Blender primarily, and have a little Max experience, but I don't know much about setting up shaders or original characters inside Daz.
Any advice is very appreciated. If there is a thread where this is already being covered, I'd appreciate being directed there. Thanks!
(I'll attach an image of the morphed character before any normals were created.) Also, here are additional images of the character at that point: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#gallery=newest&page=1&image=1253368Great! You are ging to have a LOT of fun enacting your own visions. There are quite a few video resources available. Some are free and some are paid for. I recommend WP Guru (Jay Versluis) and also SickleYield video channels to start.
Example, lots of Daz related videos among the resources on this youtube channel. The WP Guru - YouTube
Thank you, Diomede. Do you know if there are specific tutorials that deal with getting a custom character into Daz and setting it up as a deliverable that others could then use? I'm thinking, for instance, that since we are in a morph drought, maybe sharing a custom characer might be fun. Ha
PERFECT, Robert! Thank you!

Where are the Anatomical Elements promised on the Victoria 9 HD page ?
Female Anatomical Elements are listed under Materials.
I tried loading that, it doesn't appear to do anything. (Which makes sense, it indicates it's a material, not a morph or geograph object). Some people have stated that you need "Genesis 9 Character Essentials". Is that true? Normally the gens come with the bundle.
Yes, the anatomical GeoCraft comes in "Genesis 9 Character Essentials".
Getting on the 9 train, or notI'm going to do what I did for G8; Wait until it has enough content backlog to justify using it. Currently, we don't even have expressions on poor G9, so there is no rush.
That and I managed to transfer Werwulf from G9 to G8.1M, so if anything REALLY cool pops up, I'll just backwards convert it XDVictoria 9 HD Pre Purchase Disappointment IssuesRichard Haseltine said:

G8F/M Pose Transfer to G9I know, I do rather regard this solution as an 'on demand' transfer for when other methods are not available rather than a full library conversion. I wish I could imagine a [practical] way to open a library pose and convert & apply it on the fly. Thinking about it... I wonder. May have to look into it later. Hi. Figured it out...
Here is the update link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TYm-VgIOm78aV_NH7HMOas7_q1VsKpR3/view?usp=sharing
Also added a new chest flatten morph which should address all concerns. Updated the shape presets to use the chest flatten morph as well. Will update promo when I have a chance.
Please test this and let me know if all is in order. Just copy files and overwrite the existing ones. If all is in order I will make an official update.
Thanks
Can confirm, excessive hormone treatments removed. Thanks Zev! :-)

Okay, thank you for the update Richard :-)
Getting on the 9 train, or notcautiously interested but not spending until things I need available like pose/animation conversion or better yet an import pipeline and morph packages

I'm not going to rule out buying content for G9 but I doubt if there will be a deep dive. I render mostly males so I have nothing to work with at this point. I am used to the idea of not getting any content for the males early on but in the past I had the basic morph pack so I could at least make changes to the head and body. We are several days in now and still no basic morphs. I know they are coming "soon" but I really dislike the base characters of all the Genesis iterations. I am also starting to think that there will be even less content aimed at the male side than there is now. I am afraid the prevailing attitude will be "there is plenty of content - put it on G9 and slide the masculine slider on - Voila, male content". That is basically the attitude they had with the poses in the Genesis 9 Essentials pack. That's really not going to work for me.
I agree. If I see that they are even worse for male content with G9 than they were for G8/8.1 I will totally back out. I bought V9, but I use mostly males, so I'll be watching for relevant content. I don't care for feminine looking men generally, do using female morphs, poses and clothes on males won't work for me either.
I will create male stuff. I need a compagnon for my female G9. I have a little example of the female character. But there will be a black boyfriend for her too.Is there something you would like to see for the male character?
I am thinking about fiberbrows and moustache/beard.

I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed with the way Daz rolled out G9. First of all the Victoria 9 character....two skin choices, freckled and vitiligo?!?! I will never use vitiligo (and I read a lot of other people won't either), I just don't understand why they didn't offer freckled and just a regular skin texture (with no moles, freckles, blemishes, warts, or big patches of different colored skin).
Also not releasing a morph pack, with body and face morphs is also hard to understand. Instead we get a "starter pack" with a million choices of eyebrows and eyelashes.
As shadowhawk1 said, this release is a train wreck. Poor planning, poor implementation.LOL I was jsut going to reply about the calling me Shadowhack1 when you corrected it. Hadn't had a good laugh like that since... Well the release of Victoria 9 :D
To be honest, I feel for all the people that bought the pre-release bundle in good faith not knowing what was in it and are now stuck behind a gate as all of those that purchased the same bundle the day of release are getting to use her. I think daz has finally trumped their storefront disaster.
Sorry about the misspelling, I'm due to get new glasses soon. But glad you got a laugh.
Anyway, now they have Toon Kids and Fantasy Ear morphs for G9 - But no essential (normal) body and head morphs yet. There is "Werwulf for Genesis 9" that looks like it might have some muscle morphs in it, but it's probably one slider adjustment for the whole body. Priorities! Priorities! (And no I'm not a pateint kind of person)
LOL no need to apologize, like I said I thought it was funny. Yeah I see they are coming out with more and more stuff, but strangely no morph packs. This train just keeps picking up speed.

I am wondering who has done the priorization of items. What we have seen yetsrday and today does not make a lot of sense. I would have expected this:
- Release of Genesis 9 and Victoria 9
- Release of morph packs and pose converters the next day
Today's Age Control morph pack does also not make any sense, as it does require still unreleased body morphs to work with. A morph converting your figure to a 4-5 yera old girl, with adult-shaped breasts just does not make any kind of sense.
Also, the Genesis 9 Character Essentials do contain the male and female anatomy, but no material for those but the normal maps.
PowerPose does not work, as there is no template made available for Genesis 9.
Auto-fitting of hair just does not work at all. Especially trying to auto-fit dForce hair will have nice effects during simulation. @Toyen has posted a nice work-around (https://www.deviantart.com/toyen-art/journal/Tutorial-How-to-Fit-Poseable-Hair-to-Genesis-9-933611835), but that is not very universal.
In total, it seems that this release was rushed, or not carefully planned, or both. That release has failed in so many areas (apart from Victoria 9 herself - she really is damn cute).
They appeared eventually for me without doing anything; yep the freebies are still unavailable.

I'll see whats happening with smart content. Regarding morphs not doing anything please read the usage guide. It is all explained in there.Sevrin said:I just loaded this with DIM, and then copied the patch files. The Base Morph works, and the presets, and zero utilies work, and the new Flatten morph works. None of the other sliders seem to do anything, or even want to move. No errors reported.
Tested on a fresh base V9 and base G9 with male character applied.
Also, GU for G9 does not show up in Smart Content/Shaping, unlike GU for previous generations.
Getting on the 9 train, or notI "adopted" Genesis 1 right out of the gate. It was soooo much easier and more enjoyable to use than V4/M4. For G9 I will most likely do as I have done with every other generation after G1 (except for G8.1, which I haven't really used). I got V9, just like I got Victoria did for the other generations, and will get the body and head morphs when they come out. If there is something that comes out that I really like for G9, I'll probably get it, I'm sure if another character that I really like comes out in the next week or so, I'll get it as well (definitely a typical Thorne character, or a set of head/face morphs by Thorne). But for the most part I will no doubt continue to use what I already have for a long while and slowly build up the G9 library.
I'm not completely sold on G9 yet, the morph packs may help sell me a bit more. I'm also not sold on the figure topology, and some of the bends just don't look quite right to me. I'm in wait and see mode, with a bit of playing with the stuff I slowly pick up. I'm also holding off on G9 a bit because of another figure on the horizon else where that IMHO has much better topology. If it provides better features, bending, etc. than G9, I might go that direction. But regardless, I'm sure I will get more G9 stuff to make it useful, and if there are some features that I end up really loving (like the better expressions), G9 could end up my got to figure sooner than later.

Getting on the 9 train, or notI was going to wait, but Daz sent me a $10 off coupon for V9, and she's the most realistic female Daz has yet released, imo. I'll be much more discriminating in my purchases of G9 morphs & characters, after buying every morph package/utility I could for G8 (and experiencing the consequentially exorbitant load times---especially bloated for G9 due to male and female characters using the same figure).
Plus, G8 had Emma&Jordi's and Rarestone's morph packages---which I couldn't imagine not having---and they've gone bye-bye, although G9 may lend itself more easily to user sculpting.

G8F/M Pose Transfer to G9I saw yesterday that a number of people were suffering from a small number of G9 poses being available. So, can I offer a 4575 line script to transfer poses to G9. You need to have the pose applied to G8F, and it is then transferred to G9 by the script. You need to select the hip of each appropriate character. The script makes a guess as to which is which in the scene, but you need to confirm or correct the choices.
G8F and G9 are very similar, so the poses convert pretty well. The biggest problem preventing immediate use of G8 poses is that the bone names are quite different, and a few bones have different zero settings. I used about 1700 lines of code to get the face rig to transfer, something I've not done in any previous transfer script. This is one area where not everything has a 1:1 equivalence, so I have tried to make it work as well as possible - if anything G8F has more bones in the face than G9. In the lips & eyelids I've had to average up to 3 G8F bone dial values to go into one G9 parameter dial. Not everyone wants the face rig pose to come over with the body pose, so the face rig pose transfer is optional with a checkbox. The head, ears and eye poses always transfer with the body pose.
I do hope it's useful until someone like RiversoftArt can come up with a pose transfer that doesn't need G8F to be open.
Pose shown: BBarbs freebie 'Just Elegant 07' from Renderosity, Characters CHB Milan and V9. Background is Namtar3D's underwater HDRI available somewhere on this forum and at Renderosity.
The image shows that the pose has transferred properly, but due to different limb lengths between the characters, V9's right fingers are embedded in her heel. This is something that you would have had to deal with between two G8 characters and is not something the script can cope with. Allen Art reports below that it works with male figures. I've not tested it but can't see any reason why it wouldn't.
Regards
Richard
