figures disappear from Filament view

Same issue...I never met this problem until I updated to the new 4.22 version. The characters disappear a lot recently.. I tried switch between display mods, but it can't bring back the figures. I must shut down and restart the studio, reload the scene, and I can work on it 8-10 minutes, then the characters one after another say goodby. And yesterday the filament screen freezed. I changed points of view, but it remained on the perspective. I changed the display mode, I edited the scene in cartoon mode, but when I went back to the filament screen, it showed the old scene, and I couldn't move in it.
This new version 4.22 is disastrous, full of bugs, I encounter more and more problems every day. Every day I cry back the previous version 4.1, which was stable and reliable.
At least we get a lot of advertisements in addition to the many errors. This is now more important than a usable program.
Have you reported these issues (via a suport ticket, though raising them in the release thread in Daz Studio Discussions may be a step). This is not, that I have noticed, a common issue so the suspicion would be hardware, driveer or some kind of system conflict.

AFAIK one of the requirements to get it to work on MacOS is the Qt framework upgrade, so that means waiting for DS5.

Alternatives to iRay in 2024There were two plugins for Daz Studio that let you use LuxRender for rendering. They were Luxus and Reality. I don't think Reality works anymore. It used DRM that connected to a server to validate the licence, I think that when the developer stopped supporting it the licence server was switched off so the plugin fails the licence check.
I bought Luxus a long time ago and it still works on Studio 4.22. I don't know if Daz still sells it, I can find it in my library but not in the store. If they do still sell it you could try it and return it if you don't like it.
There was a plugin for 3Delight called pwToon for toon style rendering. I don't know if Daz still sell it, if they do you could try it with the 30 day money back option.

Rendering - Toonishvideo test using Filament and Gimp Cartoon filter
sadly the cutout opacity flicker is rather distracting
Rendering - ToonishFor quicker rendering for animators, some work to button up the Filament render engine (i.e. fix transparency issues, emissives, etc..) and adding some tweaks to make it a close competitor to Blender's Eevee would give it similar results. Sometimes folks are OK with having a "Game" render quality for their work - as seen in other art works when ported from DAZ to something like Unreal Engine, Blender, etc...

I'm having this same issue. CFF Explorer reports the same missing DLLs, so I tried installing the VC++ Redistributable you linked to. The installation failed, as I already have a more recent version installed (which I reinstalled, but that didn't solve the problem). Any advice?
Edit: One thing that might be worth noting is that, when I click "Run Simulation" a second time (after it fails the first time), Daz Studio crashes.
If the redistributable installation fails, it usually is because it's already installed.
Could you post a screenshot of the contents of the "/DazStudio4/libs/Fisio" folder? And a post of the report of CFF Explorer, please.
Also, not sure if this is relevant, but the non-softbody version of Fisio seems to run fine on my system. Only FisioSB is giving this error.
Is Filament working in your system? Check, please, "dzfilamentapi.dll" with CFF (it's directly inside "/DazStudio4/").
If with Filament you see the same missing, you can update your system with any (or both) of these Windows updates;
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53587
CFF Explorer seems to be showing the same files as missing for dzfilamentapi.dll, but, oddly, Filament runs fine. I tried updating with the files you linked to, but installation fails with the error, "Another version of this product is already installed." Very strange...
Yes, very strange: CFF and FisioSB both miss the files, but Filament doesn't. Let me see what I can find about it.

Is it worth migrating assets from DAZ to Blender just for rendering?Blender has a simplify tool that is similar to the scene optimizer in daz studio. Cycles has a better denoiser and supports AMD and Intel cards, plus it provides motion blur. For animations eevee is much better than filament. Apart this, if you have a nvidia card and use the scene optimizer in daz studio, then there's no significant advantage to render still pictures.
Daz Studio 5 development updateI must admit, I'd really appreciate a gaming quality renderer as an alternative to Filament/Texture Shaded for posing. My only real concern with Filament is the treatment of transparency and normals and as such it can become confusing with many hairs. In most hairs the normals behave as if they point towards the character, so are subject to back face culling, Filament's treatment of hair then seems to hollow it out. If DS could use the Unity or similar game engine, it'd be possible to have fast posing, reasonable rendering (as with Filament) but without Filament's confusing treatment of hair.
If I were to have a 'Would be nice..' list, I'll enumerate it below. I won't call it a 'Wishlist' because DS4 with Ultrascenery meets almost every hope I have of it. OK, maybe Item 1 is a wishlist item because it's badly needed:
- Proper documentation explaining every feature with examples.
- Gaming quality renderer.
- Ability to natively model items from scratch.
- Ability to natively texture map items from scratch.
- More comprehensive mesh editing in the program.
- In the Filament renderer, default to an ISO level of 0.2 rather than 1.00 as it's the brightness closest to what you see when rendering with Iray.
I can't see that DS5 would abandon sliders. They were in the Beta DS0.7 releases, so it's unlikely they'd be removed. Well, I hope it's unlikely. And to make DS5 incompatible with large swathes of previous content would not be a very sound business decision based on how many people have invested large amounts in content. I think that's unlikely. If/when the script engine changes I can see that scripts can break. With extra programming effort from DAZ, the old scripts could be run, but it'd need DAZ to write an interpreter to make DS4 scripts seem like DS5 scripts to DS5 as they are run. That is, frankly, probably too much effort/cost for DAZ to reasonably fund.
Regards
Richard

What is expected with DS5 that would have some so eager for it?
For MacOS users, I thing the main reason is to finaly have access to Filament.
I don't know if DS5 is supposed to be a native Apple Silicon application, but if it's the case, it would also means better performance.
Correct, I'm one of the three or four people who's been waiting for the Filament renderer for over three years now (I'm currently using OpenGL for animation, Filament should be an improvement). From the first post here, "M1 support will come during the continued development of Daz Studio 5" – of course it may have M3 native support now... maybe M4? Not sure if it *will* have Apple Silicon native support at launch, but if not, sometime "during the continued development of Daz Studio 5" for sure.
Richard passed on to us from the developers that Apple Metal is being used in the Mac version, but no word on how exactly it is being used.

I'm just not sure how in 2021 they were talking about being close to a release of DS5, and here we are in 2024 and it's still not even in beta/public yet...
As I've noted before, the last official update I recall was well over a year ago when we were given a vague promise that it would come out some time in 2023. It really is more than past time there was some kind of official update. I have worked in commercial computing for over forty years and this is not how software suppliers should be treating their customers.
Cheers,
Alex.
Yes, an update would be nice. At one point I was holding off on purchasing a new computer to see what would work best for me with DAZ Studio 5. I eventually gave up waiting and purchased my latest computer. When an update last year caused an issue with a few dozen Genesis characters and Genesis 3 characters using hair and other assets from Genesis to be unusable without rebuilding them, I gave up purchasing DAZ content until DAZ Studio 5 would let me know what I could still use. Still waiting; I'd love to dive back into DAZ Studio with the gusto I had a few years ago, but I'm enjoying having the hundreds of dollars formerly spent on content to spend on other things.
I only know of only three official "updates":
1. The one that launched this thread in July 2021 announcing a pre-beta with many major features missing that they were going to release to allow Mac users to actually run the crippled version with 2020's Mac OS.
2. The "Good News" one in August 2021 saying that Apple engineers helped them get the full version of DAZ Studio to work on the then-current Mac OS so there was no need to release the bare-bones version of DAZ Studio 5.
3. The August 2023 one* that "NVIDIA OMNIVERSE coming soon to DAZ 5" which, of course, doesn't mean DAZ Studio 5 is necessarily coming "soon". As I posted elsewhere, we were told "Filament working on the Mac in the internal versions Daz Studio 5" in August, 2021.
