  • How to cut 1 polygon in 2 parts (UV map) ?

It's not an issue, I'm trying to make the Michael 4 UV for Genesis 8 UV in order to convert the textures with Map Transfer.

But the M4 arm-shoulder boundary cut several G8 polygons.

  • Are DAZ prices getting higher and higher?

...the Pro bundles before Genesis actually were worth the money as they included the base figure, expression morphs, expanded morphs, basic wear, basic body suit, extra skins, and useful poses. Today they are made up primarily of characters and clothing with a hair product or two.

Actually the additional morphs would have been a requirement for those bundles because of the tech used at the time, there weren't many custom characters because clothing wouldn't fit the body shapes. But I went back and looked at the michael 4 pro pack, and in comparison it can be argued more was in the genesis packs as not many people were willing to move a dial to even change the appearance of a figure, so it's better just to give them some characters and hair to render rather than some skins and morph dials to try to make a character from it.

Also it could be argued that genesis changes what character and figures mean.. where you get a free figure (the base), then you can buy the morphs to modify that.. then you have figure bundles with character and hair. So could make a character without a buying a character bundle by just buying the morphs rather than during M4/V4, you actually had to buy the figure to make anything.... unless got it from a magazine or book for free.

...true. which is why I pretty much stopped bothering with Starter and Pro Bundles since Genesis as I already would have the standard head/body morphs for any of the new "figures" released in that generation (the only one I purchased was the Young Teens 5 as it had a lot of nice appropriate clothing, and included both Julie and Justin).

This is why I just buy base character figures, and then, only if they add something more to the "gene pool". I tend to build my own characters via morphs and highly value merchant morph/skin resources as well as plugins like Gen-X.  A lot of time I can build my own bundle" in the way of clothing and hair I actually want and still save money.  As I don't do nudes, don't really need the "naughty bits".

But if you generall buy male items, you simply don't have that luxury. Still, the paying majority still get use from the bundles more otherwise they simply wouldn't be offered.

  • Love is love! Thank you val3dart!

Male and Female figures used to use the same base figure (Generation 4), so posing (and morph dialing) between them for a complete spectrum of gender was much easier... but there were definitely downsides to that approach.

It's nice to have poses that are combinations of feminine, masculine, and even gender neutral.

Although the generation four figures (Victoria and Michael 4) used the same base mesh their rigging was not the same and it's the latter that matters for poses. The comment would be somewhat applicable for the original Genesis (which would be Generation 5).

  • The next Genesis 8 character?

Actually there was a "Guy" for Michael 4 that was intended to be the male version of the Girl toon look, however it is nowhere near as good as Guy 7. (Also good luck finding it lol )

    https://www.daz3d.com/guy-4-magnet-fits

Guy 4 Michael 4 was a PA product that was bought out (for the rights to the name) and then withdrawn from the store.

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture (... it was very very cheap), I picked up Guy 4 Michael 4 when I thought I might do more with toons, and transferred him to Genesis 2. (To match the Girl 4 shape I had moved to Genesis 2.)

It was an adventure. SUCH an adventure.

(Guy 7 came out really early in Genesis 3 -- early for the males, anyway.)

So Girl 8, Kaylee 8, Mika 8, Mei Lin 8, & Edie 8 are the known characters not released with fits.

And having a Mei Lin 8 & Girl 8 pretty much promises a Lee 8 & a Guy 8 even though no fits have been seen for them.

No sure for Guy 8, Girl 4 and Girl 6 got no Guy.

I guess I missed spotting one - which item has the Mei Lin 8 fit?

It was a long time back -- a hair, as I recall, but I can't recall which one. It's been quite a few months.

EDIT: Bedhead hair included (and apparently still has) morphs listed for "Mei Lin 7 and 8". According to the readme, Bedhead hair was released November 15, 2017, so it's been a minute, and then some.

And having a Mei Lin 8 & Girl 8 pretty much promises a Lee 8 & a Guy 8 even though no fits have been seen for them.

While Mei Lin 8 can be reasonably assumed to bring Lee 8 in her wake, Girl 8 isn't guaranteed to bring Guy 8 along for the ride. Mika 8 is the only theoretical repeat of a figure introduced with Genesis 3 to date.

Girl 5 didn't technically exist (there was a Girl 4 shape for Genesis, but not a Girl 5 shape as such) so Guy 5 didn't exist either. Girl 6 did exist but Guy 6 did not, and Girl 4 didn't have an official Daz-produced partner -- Guy 4 Michael 4 was a PA product until just before Guy 7 appeared. Presumably there was a buyout, and Guy 4 has now been buried somewhere deep under Dazneyland. He pixellates with the fishies. He renders with the choir invisible. He is an Ex-Guy.

In any event: since The Girl has been unpaired more often than not, Guy 7 is no guarantee of Guy 8. After all, Kenji 8 hasn't appeared yet either, but Aiko came around three major releases ago. I hope there's a Guy 8, if he's as good as Guy 7, but I don't actually expect it.

Just curious, why couldn't Girl 8 be with Guy 7?  Or Mei Lin 8 with Lee 7?  Is there something taboo about cross-generational virtual dating? Or having two characters together that aren't the same race?

  • M4 Elite anatomical elements not loading

I just tried this to help you:

    1) Using 'Smart Content' Tab Load Michael 4

    2) In 'Content Library' Tab - Poser Formats - Library - Figures - DAZ People - select the M4 Genitalia (white hip with a green fig leaf)

    3)  In 'Content Library' Tab - Poser Formats - Library - Pose - DAZ's Michael 4 - M4 Elite Gen are 4 icons that will inject the elite gen morphs onto the regular gens from 2

    4) In 'Content Library' Tab - Poser Formats - Library - Materials - DAZ's Michael 4 - MATerials HI-Res (or STD Res) is an icon you click M4genitals to apply texture to the genitals.

You'll notice most DAZ content of the V4 / M4 product range is still in poser format and doesn't show in in Smart Content tab and to find it is really a matter of adding it to Smart Content yourself by taking the time to catalogue it, or using it often enough to remember where it is at, or looking at the 'Installed Files' list for that product in DIM if you remember the product name, looking under the Product listings is using pretty quick too for most products, eg Michael 4 will mostly be all found in the M of products his clothing may not be called, eg Michael 4 30s Outfits but 30s Outfits so it's not all organized so good.

OMG,  I have spent hours trying to get this to work. I've read so many different threads.  I am not joking, hours! Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!! You made it so easy! A million thankyous!

  • Who's Next to Join the G8 Family?

Genesis 9 in 2019 would sound good.

Honestly , I’m not sure what Genesis 9 could offer to get me to  adopt it right off the start.  Genesis 8 gives me so much of what I want in a figure what with the better expressions, ability to bring my Genesis 3 characters (shapes , skins, and poses etc) over to Genesis 8, and the backwards compatibility for clothes, hair, and even a lot of my lie tattoos.  Footwear is not so good but that’s kinda always been an issue.

Another thing to consider is that with the way the G8 figures are so versatile, they will be very useful for much more than 2 years and should DAZ hold off on the every two year cycle , it would give the PA’s an opportunity to get really creative With doing new things.  This would be a very good thing for DAZ3D, the PA’s, and the customers. It’s not like there is not a precedent for this.  Just look at how long Michael 4 and Victoria 4 were the newest figures.

  • Texturing help needed for Hiro 4/Michael 4 in Poser

Hi guys. I am a Poser 11 user on a Mac and I have installed Hiro 4 with injection morphs for Michael 4 base, Morph++, and Elite.

I have added a toon texture from Cartoon Universe for the Hiro 4 character so he has a nice simple toon skin. I haven’t installed the actual toon morph figure, I prefer the Hiro base.

The toon texture materials don’t have nipple colouring on them, so I took the texture into photoshop and added some colouring to the area for the nipple/areola. I installed the new texture to the “chest” area of the figure.

when I increase the nipple dials so the Hiro figure now has nipples/areola, the nipples extract from the figure but they are not coloured with the texture I applied. Kind of like they poke through from the figure within.

what am I doing wrong? Do nipples have a separate texture file? If so I can’t find the body part. Any ideas? I’m stumped...

    thankyou!

Jakiblue, we crossposted :) And sorry about my text being squished together, I'm on mobile and it gives me no text editor options. I also own https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male So I guess I can pass on the new M7 to M8. I use morphloader a lot to convert shapes. It's the skins that I cannot do myself but I'm covered from M4 all the way up to m7: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-michael-4 https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-genesis-2-male-michael-5-and-michael-6

  • Exporting Michael Skeleton not as single mesh

Just tried importing into Max 2016 and the bones came in as individual objects. We just started using 2018 serveral months ago, so something must have changed with the OBJ importer in 3ds Max. I'll try on another workstation before submitting yet another bug report to Autodesk.

Unfortunately the FBX and Collada rigs left out almost all of the foot bones (for animation, not the skeleton). I needed those for a detailed closeup of the foot doing a walk cycle, shifting of the foot and toes and other crazy stuff I don't want to think about. The skinning wasn't that good either with Michael 4 when exported. Might be better with the newer gen characters. I don't have to reskin the entire character with detail, just to foot. So it is easier to start over.

Thanks for the input you two.

  • Exporting Michael Skeleton not as single mesh

OBJ is mesh only, it doesn't carry any rigging information. Collada and FBX do carry rigging, but I'm not sure if they will handle the legacy rigging used in Michael 4 - you might try the Edit>Figure>Riigging>Convert to Weight mapping (I think) command, but it may not give useful results here

  • Exporting Michael Skeleton not as single mesh

So I'm trying to export out the Michael 4 skeleton. But no matter what format I choose and settings I change, the skeleton goes from a bunch of separate bones in DAZ, into one mesh in 3ds Max. In 3ds Max, the only format from DAZ that even mentions combining the mesh is OBJ. I basically need to animate the foot and legs in 3ds Max, but I'm running into this issue. I swear at some point we could export the bones as separate objects. Also having the same issue with the Michael 4 body. It puts eyes, eyelashes, teeth, tounge, basically everything from Michael 4 into one mesh. If the body and skeleton are exported together, they come in as two separate objects.

Maybe a way not to export the hierarchy, or to remove the hierarchy in DAZ before exporting?

Any tips on what settings, if any, that work to do this?

  • DIM needs a better update system

As Chris mentioned, this was one of the design goals of Connect. Which would be nice, but there are too many side issues. Connect uses a different structure for installed files - and this structure does not work with the generation 4 characters (Vicki 4, Michael 4, all their siblings, and most if not all their morph packages); Connect cannot use your DIM downloads, so it needs to re-download for the initial Connect install. These would be bad enough - but Connect was also used to introduce the concept of encrypted content and the uproar over that drowned out the rest.
