This is a more general question about getting the "hair band" or "visible scalp" in the Viewport.

I purchased the Kerry Bundle which included Rasta Tails Hair and the Kerry HD character. I figured adding the character, adding the base hair, and Fitting the hair to the character should just work.

But, I get a visible scalp that's the color of the hair. If I do an Iray render, I get this in my rendered image as well.

In the past when this happened, I usually just played with the Scale of the hair object, and I'd eventually get the scalp part small enough it would go into the characters head and be effectively invisible. But, particularly for this hair style, the corn rows start to look irregular if I try this trick. I tried the adjustments that came with Rasta hair, and I end up with the same problem - the corn rows start looking irregular; I guess I could get there with an hour of work, basically matching the transforms to the head shape.

I'm posting because this is a more general question about the hair/scalp band that is sometimes visible. I saw someone else had this problem, but it was only in their renders and it was because of the way their lights were set up. Mine occurs in the VIEWPORT, so light isn't an issue (BTW, I have a single Distant light).

Here's a quick look at Ingenue Vickie for V3 and her bikini. I finally caught a good deal on the bundle, which is normally $100. It was in fast grab the other day at 70% off and stacked with the Wear Them All sale. It's a nice set, but she comes with no textures at all. Seems like all of the Gen 3s are like this. I'm not sure what texture she's wearing in the promos, but here she is with Skin 1 from the International Beauties set. Her bundle didn't come with hair either. In the promos, she's wearing the Las Vegas hair, but that's not in any of her sets. So here she is in Geneva Hair for G3F. Not a perfect fit, but she is petite and many hairstyles seem to overwhelm her. I also picked up Glamorous Vickie and Glamourous Aiko.

Looks good!  I wondered why that was so cheap to start with.  I didn't realize it was also in FG.  I picked it up, too.  It was kind of hard to resist picking up a bundle that cheap when it is normally that expensive.  I don't think any of the original figures came with textures back then.  Everything was separate which boggles the mind consider the price of everything.  There is no way I could have afforded to do this hobby back when DAZ was first starting.  Prices and what you get with a figure are so much better these days.

Why it was put under Clothing, who knows?

The problem is that when you say mature, people tend to think you mean old.   They aren't necessarily the same thing. Daz has a character FW Joanie which I felt came to the closest to hitting that sweet spot right out of the download, but she was Gen2.  Both Mei Lin 7 and Monique 7 look mature in many renders and aren't that difficult to get believeable mature characters out of using Zev products.
The Jun character looks interesting, and I may give it a try.  I fear that mature characters are never going to be the rage in present day Dazland,  where characters tend to go from 18 to 80 without passing go,  and there will never be as  much variety as you have with model perfect base figures (at least where women are concerned).  Though they say male figures don't sell, it's amazing how much variety you can get with the amount of figures that you have in both age and appearance.

 

Oddly enough,folks seem to disagree with me when I say that Victoria 7 is a mature character, for precisely the reasons you say; they expect them to look older, when that's not going to always be the case.

I just got Biston's Old Gas Station. Cool rig. Tried a Iray and got only black! But the 3d Delight is so good, almost real. Here is a render with the 56 Victoria.

Last Chance Gas isn't set up for Iray, too bad, it would be easier to actually render it that way, its a beautiful set to be sure, but it does work fine with 3D Light. As does the old Warehouse 56 Vicky.

Thanks SixDs and scorpio for your replies. I cannot find the Genesis 3 female figure in my Genesis 3 starter content library though I can find the Genesis 3 male figure. In the past I've used the Victoria and Michael 4 models so I confess, I'm ignorant of most features of the Genesis 3 models. Could you please help me to locate the Genesis 3 female base model?

I recently bought Elven for Genesis 3 but cannot get the costume to fit either the Genesis 3 default figure or Victoria 4. Could anybody please advise me on how to get the costume to fit any female base figure? I also get an error message when I try to use the Pose included in the product. I've had the problem with another product in the past (and had no product support and which turned out to be a Poser product) which is why I've been away from Daz Studio for  while.

This one is a bit tricky. It's basically Melody 2.0 on G3F.

It's tricky only because I had to save the original material preset as .DUF on Genesis 1 and then use Cayman Studio's Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: Victoria 4, which is sold over at Renderosity, to apply them to G3F. Not only that, but I ended up having to parent the Melody head to G3F because the autofit distorted her snout. And then, I had to shrink GF3's head so it wouldn't poke through. Since the head was so much trouble, I just went straight to parenting her tail. XD

The set is Aikinaro, which apparently comes free with DS (at least I think it does, since I have no idea how it got there. O_o) Then I added the caverns from The Alchemy Chasm which I do know comes free with DS because that's where the freebie scenes are set in. And finally her outfit is Dark Storm for G3F which is another included freebie. Her pose, however is not a freebie. It's from Z Heavenly Poses and Expressions for Genesis 3 Female.

I like modern crosses with nobody on them, but anyway, as said they models, wings, robes are all there to make your renders. As to why you don't see those in the galleries and in the DAZ store but instead see all the demon, devils, incubuses (am I allowed to say a word without having a clue as to what that word means?), and other fictional creatures; people must be buying them although personally I have more trouble telling those creatures apart then the various near Michael 7 / Victoria 7 variations that are in the DAZ Store.

So the long coat itself works well and doesn't crumple or explode when posed?

I think I need to find these books of yours :)

The jacket is supposed to be poseable, I'm looking for those settings and will post my findings. 

Here's some fun I had reshading the suit. You can get pretty nuts with these. Lots of material zones. I set the opacity to 0 on the neck portions in the second picture to change the look a bit.

Of your list, these are what I have:

• Mec4d Pbs Shaders - I love these. Seriously, LOVE. She makes INCREDIBLE iray shaders and these are top notch. You will never need to buy another shader for metals especially if you have these. I use them a helluva lot. They are indispensible to me. 
• Subsurface workshop - I just picked these up today. Full admission here - I have pretty much no clue what subsurface is or how to use it or what to do. However, recently I saw two artists I admire very much use these on a render they did with this guy: Toonimal Chameleon in iray, and he looked absolutely fantastic. Now this guy is ooooooooooooooooold. And they made him look like he was brand new and especially made for iray. LOL. I had a quick play tonight using it on Morphing Python and the Cold Blooded texture pack, cos he is one of my favourite animals to use. Made waaaaaay before iray. And I was really really happy with how he came out. I can't give you much advice on what you would use the subsurface shaders for, but suffice to say I was very thrilled with my results tonight, and the vendor who made it is top notch. 
• iray shader kit 2 - another set of fabric shaders i use a LOT. These are one of my favourites. Fabric shaders are an excellent thing to collect - you can use them on anything you need, like clothes, couches, cushions, bed linen etc. And parrotdolphin is damn fine. :) If you're not interested in buying texture add ons for things, shaders are the best bet - and these are one of the best. 
• iray smart converter advanced skin management - now, I don't have this one in particular. But I do own her ones for Genesis, Genesis 2 and Victoria/Micheal 4. I wouldn't be without them. I think her iray converters are an absolute must have, if you want to use previous generations in iray. They're supurb, and if you're like me and rather dumpkopf when it comes to complicated instructions, these are very very easy to use, and very well explained. As you apply the shader, a big box pops up with a heap of useful information. Digging into them a lot further, you can get spectacular results - or you can be like me and just apply them and be done with it. LOL. 

I don't have the Sapphire bundle, but I can say, Raiya is one of the most top notch, brilliant character creators so if you're wanting more Gen3 girls, she's definitely a vendor to buy from. And Outoftouch makes spectacular hair.

I love Uzilite's products/ He (or she?) always puts a ton of morphs in them, and some of them are quite funny (OMG, check out M3's underwear, that's freaking hilarious!)

Anyhow, there are lots of items in the set. The suit fits very well on Esther's ample curves (she's got quite a back end!) I just threw Uber on everything. The gloves are two toned, but the color can be changed easily in the surfaces tab. There are a couple items that didn't fit quite right- the "Heartbreaker" (bracer blades) and "FaithKeeper" (sword). They will take some extra fiddling. Perhaps don't fit them but position them how you want and then parent them instead. I'll try that next along with the mask and helmet.

The collar on the jacket crumples up. I've seen the same thing on a couple of other Uzilite items. It's something with autofit and the bones. I found a tutorial on Evil Innocence's Cross Dresser documentation on those to fix this in Poser, but no info on how to fix in DAZ. I think it needs deformers or a correction in the joint editor. I need to figure out how to do this because I'm using The Marquis for M4 on my next book cover and have this same issue with the collar. 

I'll play some more with the morphs and get that helmet and mask on.
