Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 8
I forgot about these- they're in 3Delight. I'd only been using DAZ for a couple of months when I made them. I really didn't know what the heck I was doing. Here's Ragnar for Gianni 7 as "JJ" in my Calpernica series. Eventually these characters will be on my book covers as I slowly get them done.
And here's Roxanne for V7 as "Jenny" in the same series: Firestation Fun
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 8Not sure how many of Gypsyangel's chars I have, but I don't have nearly enough lol , working on buying her whole catalog ..... I do have Brahm and Maret.

Legal QuestionYou can trademark common words used for a specific business or service. You can't trademark words for general use. An example of a windows trademark - http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4805:3a00ao.6.82 . The "goods and services" label lists what the trademark can be used for. I didn't see a trademark for Victoria. But if you credit DAZ or any other artist I'm sure they won't mind. It might generate more sales for them.
Preview - First Look at Avalon Hair for Genesis 3 Male (& Female)Okay, back again. The problem I was having was in the rigging; it didn't manifest until I tried to "fit to" Victoria 7. The 7cm displacement was essentially due to a slight head height difference between G3M and G3F present in the rigging. When I tried to transfer the rigging from my original model to the G3F version, it shifted the hair from the modeled position to the G3M head position. Which meant that I had to re-rig from scratch. I'll also have to make adjustments to the morphs created for the G3M version, when I transfer them, next.
Until then, here's the rigged female version:
missing geometry filesOkay, there is no real problem, i have imported the geometry files directly as .obj, and parented them to the figure's head. They work fine. I'm not actually using V4 by the way, i'm using Genesis 2 Female, and it works very well. Poor Victoria, i so rarely use her, sigh.
Legal QuestionCharacter names CAN be trademarked for certain markets. It does not mean they can't be used....it means they can't be used for "trade". Ie. both DC and Marvel own characters called "Captain Marvel". Both can use their character how they want, in comics movies etc. But Marvel owns the trademark, so only they can have a comic book called "Captain Marvel". This is why they have a movie coming out called "Captain Marvel" and DC has one called "Shazam".
Character names CAN be copyrighted, but it's not easy to do, invlovling three tests of name, concept and appearance. Want to write a story about a guy named Spider Man who wears a red suit and fights crime? You're out of luck. Want to write a story about a guy named Spider Man who wears tweed and collects spiders? Go for it.
The Daz character names are NOT trademarked. A trademark is not an automatic thing like a copyright. You actually have to claim it, signified by using ™ . That signifies that you are claiming the trademark as your trade id... in your case, a title like THE ADVENTURES OF XIN XIN!. Daz has not asserted that claim...look at the bottom of this page..they're claiming "Daz"..likely have it for other software products. The very fact that other stores sell things listed as "for Victoria" tell you that either they don't have the trademark, or they're not defending it, and thus it's voided.
All clear? :)
Victoria 4 Wet Maps, how to make effect more pronouncedI'm attempting to use "Victoria 4 Wet Maps" ( https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-wet-maps , on Genesis1), however as the render requires a full scene and isn't zoomed in, I can barely see any detail. Suggestions for making the effect more visible?
Legal Question"I am making a short animation and using Victoria (No changes at
all), can I call her Victoria or do I have to actually change her name?"
No
..." if you are not doing content-parody I would think it a bad idea to
use the existing names anyway - but as far as I know yes the Victoria
and Michael names at least are trademarks."
Hi this is not true:"It is not illegal for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to register a
person's name as part of a trademark, but it only grants this level of
protection to names that are widely used in commerce or are unique.
Trademarks are granted to protect established brand names from
inferior competition. In most cases, a person can't trademark his name,
but other protections can help business owners protect the use of their
name if it is used in association with business."
A CG Character named Victoria cannot be legally trademarked unless.. perhaps
the trademarked name is: "The Daz3D model called Victoria 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 created by Daz inc."Such a name Clearly Associates that particular "Victoria" with Daz inc.
Micheal and Vicky Alone without such a stated association with Daz inc. are articles of common speech (proper nouns) and their usage cannot be restricted by trademark or patent.
Legal Question3D is not fine as long as the emshcannot be extracted under the basic EULA - to distribute anything that contains mesh you need a game developer License or Licenses to cover the content used, and there are limits on what can be done. As for names, if you are not doing content-parody I would think it a bad idea to use the existing names anyway - but as far as I know yes the Victoria and Michael names at least are trademarks.
Legal QuestionI know any 2D fine and 3D as long as the mesh can't be extracted. But what about the names. EX: I am making a short animation and using Victoria (No changes at all), can I call her Victoria or do I have to actually change her name?
Can the textures for Fayre/Genesis dress be used on Fayre/Genesis 3?Yes. 90% of the time, textures for older versions of a PC+ product (such as the Morphing Fantasy Dress, which goes all the way back to Victoria 3) can be used on newer versions. (There are exceptions, but they're not particularly common.)
The older generation: Victoria 2/3, Michael 2/3 and their children rendersSo this is my major V2 "oeuvre".
The version attached is an example of the EXR render tonemapped in Picturenaut.
Click for bigger!
And on my dA gallery I posted a more artistic version that was tonemapped using NIK Analog FX.
If you click this one, it should take you straight to the hi-res version. Unless dA doesn't allow hotlinking.
Very nice. The high-quality rendering really "disguises" how old this figure is. For me, the only giveaways are the jawline – there's something a bit too strong and defined about it, and there's a little funkiness to the bend of her elbow. But man... you really nailed it with the textures and lighting. A very pretty scene with a very pretty character.
hi does anyone know where i can find this outfitI am pretty sure thats the Assassin Angel outfit which can be found here https://www.daz3d.com/assassin-angel-victoria-4

Is V5 a genesis character?Yes, Victoria 5 is a morph from the Base Female Geneeis figure
Is V5 a genesis character?I loaded V5 into Carrara and noticed the name "Genesis" under "Victoria 5" in the instances tab. I need to know which add on items I should purchase. Genesis 1? Genesis 2 etc? V5? I am confused. I think I understand that Genesis is a character that can morph into almost anything. Is V5 a morphed Genesis character?
The "OK, I had to go there" post...lolWell, if the past two generational launches mean anything, Genesis 4 Female & Victoria 8 will be due in July. If this is the case, we're only getting one more pair official characters next month before the immidiate jump.
My only hope this time is that where Daz is no longer afraid to release whole couples in the same month, it may be possible that G4F & G4M will come at the same time. The "OK, I had to go there" post...lolVictoria 8 will be better than Victoria 7 because..Well ...8 is one number higher than 7.
have you people never seen "This is spinal Tap"??Unless Genesis 4 goes up to 11, I'm satisfied with the current generation. LOL

have you people never seen "This is spinal Tap"??Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 8I've snagged quite a few old clothing sets in the recent Blow Out Sales, hoping to refit to Genesis 3. Here are a couple I've tried already and been quite pleased with.
Skadi for V4 - refit to Rune 7 using Wear Them All. This is an Iray render but using one of the default mats from the set (it has DS mats) with just a minor "bumping" of the bump. The hair is Twilight Hair (PC+ item). The backdrop is one of my own made in Photoshop with various of Ron's brushes, the lighting is from Painter's Lights (which I love) with the basic DS HDR at a 25% intensity to lighten the shadows a little.
La Plume - a texture set for The Dress for V3. This was a two-part conversion: first to Genesis (using the clone V3 Shape) then refit from Genesis to G3F using Wear Them All. La Plume only has Poser mats, but all I did was increase the bump settings for this (Iray) render. The figure is Uma for Gia 7, lit with Painter's Lights again.
On a side note, you won't believe this but when you posted these beautiful backgrounds on the freebie page (thank you!), I checked your gallery and then I wanted to ask you for an example of how you used them. I guess I was having artist block.
So thank you for these examples!
