Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.9.4.122! (UPDATED)
There's a bug in relation to Victoria 8's y position when grabbing her hands or arms for direct movement.
i.e.
load Victoria 8 > click and drag either her hand or feet directly.
Notice how the entire figure translates say 20 points up or down (based on the height of the figure. I was able to get it jerk down if applied a negative height via the body morphs).
I also noticed this sort of behavior in Genesis 3 when applying any of the pose helpers. Such as say 'shoulder shrug'. If you were to apply any of these helpers and attempted to grab said affected area, you would experience an unintended jerk in positioning.
This bug is reproducible on the mac and pc versions.
Thanks.

Morphs from G3 to G8I tried the Sickleyield method and it worked great. But my question is, why not just use the G3 version? So far I see no advantages to G8... Why do we need G8 if we already have all the morphs we want in G3??? The mouth may be a bit more realistic for some expressions but not such a big change. V8/G8 could just be another less attractive G3 character. I'm not seeing the huge advantages...
The facial rigging and better posing are huge advantages to me. I got into 3D art primarily to do book covers and promo art for my writing. Along the way, I found a new hobby I love that enhances my writing process and am starting to do covers for other writers. Lifelike expressions and great posing are crucial to that, as are well draped clothes, which is why I'm also working hard to learn everything I can about dynamic clothing.
With the latest updates to Studio and the new G8, I'm finally getting the results I've been striving towards for the past year and a half. I am totally on board with the new stuff, but not afraid to use the old stuff when needed (I love the old stuff!) I'm also learning Poser and many other things as I try to find the right tools for the right job.
So yeah, personally I'm happy to embrace the new technology. It's opening doors I didn't even know were there.
I have sooo many expression and bending and merchant resource morphs for G3 already... The free G8 doesn't have as many dots, is that from a morph package? I also found that if I play with just the free G8 facial morphs, expressions and visemes, I can do quite a lot with facial expressions. I'm waiting to hear a response from my ticket to see if they'll give me a discount since I have the Victoria pro bundle stuff but bought individually, not as a bundle. I still haven't used my coupon so may go for the morphs, but doubt I'll be investing a bunch more money into it. As of now, I don't see a huge difference, but it might be because I already have so many morphs for G3...
My free G8 has plenty of dots - have you installed the PowerPose Templates download? Try this: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2539036/#Comment_2539036

Genesis 8: Some Stats and our ThanksWe have some really big things planned for the back half of this year. We think it will surprise and impress a lot of you. We understand that change is not without pain, but we are committed to always improving, advancing, and moving forward. We're pleased that so many of you have chosen to take that journey with us.
I'm worried about that line. For me, nothing good comes out of something like that.
So what, subscription/paying for access to the program? Losing DIM? (I doubt you guys have dropped DRM and encryption).
The idea of spending so much money just to be forced out of a beloved hobby is terrifying to me, as Daz is a massive part of my life now.
I know to some that this reaction is over the top, but, if you knew me, this is me being rational.
Rational would be realizing that what you have now will always work, so no need to be forced out of anything other than progress..
Except that I've actually had a program (well, specifically an app for a tablet) become useless because a company decided that their cloud service was going to get cut to the bare bones of the program and future use (or using the on-line version of the program) was going to require subscription. So I could no longer share the work between my desktop (with the older, no longer supported, but fully functioning app) and my tablet, because the only way the two could talk to each other was through the cloud service, which wouldn't save the tags/metadata without a subscription.
So, yes, sometimes what you have does stop working.
Indeed.
This has always been my objection to what Daz did with Connect when they added the DRM component.
... But what they've done with G8, little change to the mesh, same UVs and Victoria 8 the same UVs as the base is very encouraging.
Victoria 8 skin faildunno how it happened, but even if the DS version is not the exact one required, the shader nodes are basically identical so the maps would NOT get dropped into totally incorrect slots.( like the mouth diffuse map into the face diffuse slot as in your screencap/render)
to fix it, you need to manually move the texture images into the correct slots.
personally, i would uninstall Victoria 8 and Genesis 8 Female, clear your cache( possibly run summat like CCleaner) then reinstall, making sure DS is fully shutdown first. this should sort the issue.
I really love Genesis 8!What are "dzneuraymgr.cpp(403)" and "cloud\dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178)" errors?I'm getting some errors upon reinstalling the latest DS. These bits were copied from the log file immediately after opening DS, before attempting to load any content.
I can see I've got some reference to "Victoria and Michael Skeleton Textures" so I'll go hunting for those, but I have no idea about the rest of it.

Anyone got any suggestions on what is causing this, and more importantly how to fix it?
Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR)Victoria 8 skin failCan anyone tell me why this is happening & how to fix it ?

Victoria 8 / Genesis 8 compatibility??Daz says this about the subject:
COMPATIBILITY
"Genesis 8 includes backward-compatible and even male to female clones for all of the previous generations and sexes of Genesis products. This means that items that were specifically created for Genesis, Genesis 2 or Genesis 3 can now all be used on Genesis 8. So break out that Genesis 2 space suit you loved or your favorite party dress for Genesis, it's time to strut your favorite stuff!"
Flash to now:
Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right, but none of my Gen 2 back footwear is working on her??
My Gen 3 footwear isn't really dialing up correctly either??
I tried some V5 poses on her and she got all wonky in the arms..???
What am I missing here??
Day 4 of Generation 8 and...It's not 2 names for one product. Genesis 8 and Victoria 8 are different, and they have always been.

ok didnt noticed that because i havent downloaded yet
its all the fault of this lazy G abreviation
but why 2 names for one product now ?
How long is the Victoria 8 Sale?Anyone know how long the Victoria 8 Sale is going on?
I'm on the fence and haven't decided.
Victoria 8Yeah, I'm trying to ignore the bigoted comments I've seen on the forums lately about how females over the age of 30 are no longer attractive or desirable. As if the mere act of aging devalues half the population in some people's eyes. I'm 47. I don't have an "expiration date" and I don't think Victoria should either.
I agree. I don't think age makes a woman less attractive. I am one of the people who doesn't think V8 is that attractive, but that's just me. How old a character looks doesn't bothered me. I actually love it when the characters don't all look like they just got out of highschool.
I really love Genesis 8!Love the technical improvements in Genesis 8. Had a little extra time this morning to play around with some of my new toys finally and this is what I came up with. THe facial expression was done in the new powerpose interface and the body pose is an adapted one from one of the Victoria 7 pose bundles. Also used were various glothing items from Genesis 3 ( adventure girl outfit, FM tank tops, and Jeanz) Added to that the Perrin Hair and the Morningstar Wings as other new toys. The rock prop was an older prop by Jack Tomalin that I tossed some Iray shaders on and the sky is just the base iray sky from default render settings with Stonemasons Iray Clouds to break it up a bit.
Very happy with the new figure. I cant wait for the male version!
Victoria 8's Eyebrows not visible in Texture Shaded preview modeIs there a reason why Victoria 8's eyebrows are not visible when running the editor in Texture Shaded preview mode? The only way to see it is in NVIDIA Iray preview or doing an actual render. Not that its a critical issue but it would sure be nice to see the eyebrows.
Art of the PromoGiving some attention to the description for Hercules HD Loves Victoria 8 Poses by SimonWM, which gave me a good laugh.
Just because you are from a previous generation doesn't mean you cannot try to impress the new girl. Especially when your name is Hercules and there are statues and temples raised in your name. And we all know how much Victoria likes temples

Hehehehehe! You're right. It's very funny.Victoria 8What I always enjoy about these threads is being reminded of the incredibly ... specific and vocal social view of attractiveness is projected in society.
Jeebus, people.

Well said! Well said!
There is beauty all around us but some folks like those waif thin models with plastic faces I guess! lmao
I agree - although I am sure that I am personally past my "Best Before" date!
Victoria 8She's not exactly a looker, eh?
Also, can someone explain in simple terms what's the appeal of the new G8/V8 generation? As far as I can tell it's just the same as G3?
She can look like anything you want. I just brought over 35+ of my favorite morphs from G3F, including Toon Generations, Legacy Shapes for G3F (the main G2Fs) and various characters (Lilith 7, Olympia 7, V7, etc.) I also brought over Xameva's fantasy shapes from Renderosity (the elf and dwarf ones), which look really good. The ears dial in right on those.
Will be posting test renders of things as I can. If someone wants to see what a particular character looks like on G8 or mixed with V8, let me know. If I have it, I'll move it over and render it. You can also use Redz method to move over items you've ported in to G3 from GenX2 or created with FaceGen. I'm not even sure you need any body or head morphs for these, the morphs are ported over via Morph Loader Pro and dialed straight in. (But I have those packs installed, so I can't verify that.)
The posing and facial rigging are huge steps forward in realism. The autofits work pretty decently. Sometimes Studio has to think a bit if you load entire outfits with lots of items. I'd recommend doing those one piece at a time. Being able to use the skins from G3F is a huge advantage. I managed to get a G3M skin on G8 as well, though there are a few seams. Haven't tried tranferring any G3M morphs over yet. Did try the Centaur for kicks and it didn't work, but I didn't expect it to. Might have to make a V8 centaur the way people were making V7 ones before the female centaur came out.
The possibiities with G8 are pretty endless and you don't have to spend much or anything to enjoy the benefits, just a little time and patience.
Can you test Gwinneli
Thanks, and sure, I can test her next. I already brought her over. Still waiting on this render to finish. Testing a bunch of things at once and it's taking a while.
Day 4 of Generation 8 and...This one has nothing to do with Victoria 8, because I didn't bother buying her. It's Genesis 8 all the way - all I bought were the head and body morphs and the expressions. I've been putting the morphs through SimTenero's randomiser to create new shapes and then resurfacing them with SB3 textures. I've done a few of them now and there's nothing particularly special about the one pictured - I just wanted show one that uses existing stuff from a mix of previous generations.
As mentioned, it uses a Skin Builder 3 texture, and the top, hair and skirt are all Genesis 2. The shoes are Genesis, and the stockings are from a Genesis 3 product. All of this went straight on with no trouble - I did have to adjust the top a bit to fit over the skirt, but they're from two different G2 outfits and I've had to do that anyway when using the same combination on G3 and even on G2. Heels can be problematic - I've had the most success with Genesis and G3 shoes and the least with G2 in my limited experiments with them. So far, tops have needed to be of a tighter fit - there's a lot of under-boob clinging going on which shows up a mile away with anything looser fitting.
I'll probably buy her a pair of heels of her own eventually, but in the meantime I think I can get a lot out of my current G8 resources and existing content, and there's nothing at all wrong with G3, either. No rush for the shiney stuff here :)

She looks like she's 45 going on 60. Sorry I just don't get it. Enlighten me please because I am missing something here.
Yay! She's supposed to look older. What I was aiming for was somebody with a reasonably natural looking expression, a 'normal' looking older face which didn't make her look like an aging super-model and just enough chunk around the middle to suggest she wasn't willing to let herself go yet but wasn't so obsessed with it that she couldn't help giving in to the odd cream cake urge. I saw her as some kind of senior schoolteacher or one of the hospital admin types that spends her days struggling with budgets while the medics moan at her because there's no money and the hours are too long. I can't see glamour-girl Vicky being half as convincing in the same role.
Well done Astracadia. The fashionable, but not overtly sexy office attire, sensible shoes, and slightly frazzled hair definately suggest an administrative position in a fast paced office. I suspect when she meets her friends at the pub for an after work cocktail, she puts on her subtle brown eyeliner, and her favorite shade of coral lipstick (she can't be fussed for anymore make-up than that, mascara is definately out) she rates a solid 7.5 and doesn't have any problems getting the gentlemen to offer to buy her drinks. I don't think she is married because she has devoted herself to her career. Really great character.
Thanks, DG :)
