  • Victoria 8

I think what everyone is forgetting is that Victoria in the Genesis 2+ versions have become no more than just another character. We're used to Victoria 4 being the BASE for everything and that is no longer the case. Victoria X is now just another in a long line of characters...there's bound to be some that are more well received than others. If Victoria isn't your cup of tea, maybe Eva 8 will be, or Olympia 8 or WeDon'tKnowHerNameYet 8 ;)

But isn't getting V8 the only way to get this:

I was playing with those yesterday, and I only have G8...

ETA: After wacthing that video... I need to do some serious playing with that tool! Wow.

I have that and don't have V8, just the G8 base.

Edited to add that it's in the top menu: Windows/Panes/PowerPose. Clicking on the face shape will bring up those points, as well as a multicoloured face shape. Click on the multicoloured face shape for even more control points.

Edited again to un-typo the word 'edited'!

To me, this (G3 character as G8) would have been the perfect V8. A nice generically pretty girl that you can use morphs on to change how you wish. V7 is drop-dead gorgeous but always looks like V7, no matter what you do to her and V8, I'm sorry, is just unattractive to me and also has such distinct features they would be hard to change drastically. Originally, Victoria 1,2,3,4 were what Genesis is now. A sort of blank slate to add morphs to. Then they gave Victoria a more distinct  look with Genesis. I think G1Female should have been Victoria 5, G2 Female V6, etc... It would have dispensed with the confusion of the numbering and the actual Victoria characters that we have now could have been named something else as specific characters like Karen, Lilith, Rune, whoever... I was excited to get V7 because she was so gorgeous, but rarely use her because she is so recognizable. Same problem I think with V8. She has a weird nose, face and body to me and I think there is confusion when people talk about the great new capabilities of V8, they really mean G8 because V8 is just a character...  Just got the G8 morphs but I don't see ever getting V8 unless free and don't see what all the hype is about her and I wish all the sales weren't based on owning her.  I already see PA characters that look much better to me and I'm sure there will be tons more to come...

Great overview. You pointed out a lot of things that I had not checked yet.

    What about the

    Victoria 8 Eyebrows Prop

    and the

    6 Make-up Options without Eyebrow

It is not the first character to feature such options but still feels like worth mentioning.

The fibermesh eyebrows, make-up options without eyebrows and the now separate eye lashes open up a lot of customization options.

Hopefully this catches on for other characters as well.

  • Victoria 8

After testing Victoria 8 for a day, I have to conclude that there really isn't enough difference between her and Victoria 7 for V8 to be called V8. More like V7.3.

We gain HD expressions. Way cool. We gain geografted eyelashes. Okay. Why? We gain a base figure who is three inches taller than V6 and V7. Isn't 5'11" tall enough? We gain a figure with a masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth. Well, I fought V7's ugly mouth, but I don't want to do it again. We gain a more primitive mesh that is even further removed from natural human topology than V7.

    And I can't convert my custom V7 characters to V8 without major effort. A 22 year old V7 looks 40 in V8.

So, I dropped $40 on an experiment. It was money well spent, really. It told me to wait for Victoria 9. Hey, I bought a Hyundai in 1986! I'm 6'4". You do the math on that. I've spent more on less.

Where to start with untangling this. Oy! First, V8 is a definite step forward and more than worthy of it's own figure line. The bends are much better, muscles follow the pose shape better, skin texture improvement, anatomy improvment, the skin actually moves with the expressions, improved eyes, nails, and feet, etc.

Second, converting characters from V7 to V8 is suprisingly easy. Redz has a tutorial on how to do it and made a post on how to do it here on the forum - and it's pretty fast and painless.

Third, "masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth" I totally disagree. I think she's quite lovely and a lot more realistic looking than some of the past Victorias which trend to have unnaturally large eyes and faces that are too artificial looking. We still have a ways to go to hit total photo-realism, of course, but V8 is definitely a step forward.

Really, Diva? I'm with Nathanomir on this one. I think there is a stiking resemblance between a certain Ms Versace and V8 at least before the cosmetic surgery (see attached pic). However, I accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nevertheless, I think that the majority of people would agree that V8 has a significantly masculine face structure.

No idea who Donatella Versace is (I assume one of the people who design the clothes of that name) but wow, I'd be hard put to find a person with a long, angular face and a vaguely similar skin tone who looked *less* like V8. And I'm not one who thought V8 was all that attractive. (not *hideous* certainly, just not particularly attractive. Like the hypothetical sister of Rene Russo who wasn't pretty enough to make it in the movies or something.)

I tried Redz method of transferring morphs but have issues with the hands on Bethany7, Karen7 and Lilith7. Can anyone alse confirm?

I had that problem with Bethany and a couple of PA characters (maybe Priya) but switching to the joint editor tool, right clicking on the character and selecting "Adjust rigging to shape", and then saving out the morph asset seemed to fix it. If you pose the character to see if there are joint problems, be sure to zero her before adjusting rigging to shape and saving the morph asset!

A. n. weniger abdunkelnd. A. n. in "die richtige Richtung". winksmiley

  • Lydia HD for Victoria 7 [Commercial]

As far as I can see, Daz should get you to make a Core character very soon. In fact, I thought Lydia looked how most people would expect Victoria 8 to look. Moreover, an exquisitely stunning yet distinctive female Core character would be a very smart move for Daz, especially if she is of another ethnicity than West/North European.

If Victoria 8 had looked like Lydia I would already have her by now.

Thank you so much! I will make a character for Victoria 8 in the near future : )

As for the lights, i can't make a commercial pack because sometimes i use HDRs from this site http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html ( i really like the HS Gold Room/Mt-Washington-Gold-Room_Ref.hdr) other times i use DimensionTheory HDR lights.

  • "Brace yourself, my dear wallet! There's always another Sale - and Glitches!"

All the sales look interesting... But, most of the discounts on older items aren't as good as they have been in recent months.  And, I have all earlier Incarnations of Victoria and most of the bundle items...only a couple that I still want.

I like the new curly hair...but, it isn't exactly what I was after....

I guess I'll wait and see if anything more exciting comes along.

  • V8 out this month, who are you expecting next ?

Odds would say Bethany 8 or Eva 8 but come on DAZ surprise us and why not some new figures like was precisely Bethany and Eva.

Also I'm curious how the iconic figures like Aiko or The Girl will look in this generation 8 and a bit scared because in my point of view i am very disappointed with how Victoria 8 looks.

@llynara   Any tips on bloom? I haven't used that either. How much, for example? Can you do certain areas, or is it the entire thing?

I just got back from Walmart half an hour ago, and it sure feels good to have my shopping done by 7am. In case that thing gets to Tropical Storm (or even Depression) or just dumps another foot of rain, I'm all set and can stay home fully stocked. Going to get the vehicles gassed up tomorrow.

I did buy P3D Duffy and will try to get her rendered.

I got P3D Duffy, too. I thought of you when I saw the eyebrows. I thought you'd like them. I did a render with makeup and now I'm doing one with different hair, lighting angle, and no makeup. She looks great. I'm a big fan of P3D character skins, especially. I bought Duffy, just because it was from P3D. I'll add the second image when it finishes. Second image is attached now.

The lighting is provided by an HDRI "Balcony" from HDRIHaven.com.

Before I get off the computer, here's P3D Duffy HD for Victoria 8  wearing Marine Outfit for Genesis 3 Female(s)  and  Kylan Hair. No trouble whatsoever with the Genesis 3 outfit on VIctoria 8 character. However, do change the collision for the outer jacket, to collide with the sweater, and not the figure- then turn collision to 7.

  • Genesis 8: Some Stats and our Thanks

You got me on the improved bends and flexion-type morphs, the facial morphs was the icing on the cake, as far as backwards compatibility, it was pretty much a given seeing as the base G8 pretty much matched the G7 base model's body/polys...BTW, it seems to me the numbering convention is pretty much straight forward, why you didn't just go with Genesis 4 is beyond me as it's not a difficult convention to grasp...No matter, I'll just have to rename a few of my content folders!
