    There are no 3dl shaders that will do texture UV based on the underlying figure, which is obviously a problem for some things. But there are some ways around that, and for many uses that's not so critical.

    I think I need to (try to) comission a certain fox to make a proper pathtracer compatible SBH shader;) The GB shader of course renders solid black with scripted pathtracing so can't use it anyway. Wowie's AWE Hair shader is actually based on the 3DL hair spec BRDF, same as Garibaldi, and sees RiCurves, but it is geared towards rendering traditional polygonal hair cards, so, due to the uv-solution you get this flat shade (root-tip blending of course works), and, even worse, you can't adjust specular roughness, it's either 0 or 1. So yeah I use curves for brows, vaellus-type stuff, armpit- etc hair, long hair looks just plain bad, but renders in seconds/minutes.  

    Edit: Made this scene some year ago to test AWE Hair shader on GB hair. So it's still useful for obscure non-PBR-stuff, but as you can see the diffuse color is uniform.

    I wouldn't worry too much about expressions shifting the face shape and just use whatever expression tells the audience what the character is feeling. As long as the hair, costume, skin tone, and all that stays consistent the audience will be able to tell who it is, regardless of how extreme the expression is on their face. The important part is conveying to the audience what it is you want them to know and having accurate and unmistakable expressions is an important factor in that, IMO. This is a really lovely render by the way, as always your vibrant colors really make the images pop!

    FYI Other than pwToon , I`m also dont have proper 3DL knowledges , especially with standard and realism render outcome . Right now I have more knowledge about Blender in that part than 3DL.

    My technique actually really old school since I came to know toon shader from 3D max version 5 era,  and watching lots of Youtube coloring comic tutorial ( in  2d graphic editor) . So each time I try  new 3D programs ( include daz studio and poser back then ) my goal always wanna  know how to get FLAT render - sharp Shadow and make lighting behave as additional coloring/mood  tools .

    If those possible , the rest will be come

    Yeah 3DL guys maybe get lucky with straight toon shaders like pwToon - Visual Style shaders and manga style  . But  OSO toon also great !! Especially if you OK layering in 2D image editor to get superb result . It doesnt matter how the images created . Straight render - No Postwork or heavy postwork . The final images will tell other people how your craftman efforts and skills .

    I totally agree, it's less about the programs or process and more about the end result. And whatever works for you or gives you the look closest to what you're aiming for is what's important. It's fun for me to experiment with different programs, render engines, and processes and see what looks I can get. I really enjoy seeing such a wide variety of NPR styles. I'm still searching for "the one" that I'm 100% happy with or that I feel is solidly "my style". I think I will find "my style" eventually but for now it's fun experiencing the different NPR looks I can get with different render engines, shaders, programs, and workflows.

    I love this! Which geometry shell outline did you use?

    It's the free geoshell from the Manga Style and VSS thread. I didn't change anything here though, just applied as is. I'm also using the  lights and render settings from the free pack.

    That's exactly it. I have seen what can be done with Eevee and Unreal and it's very cool. I wish DAZ would also embrace NPR because there is a strong come back going on in other communities. If we talk about it then maybe that'll help. Thank you to everyone participating in these threads they have been very helpful to me in figuring out how to approach things. I don't know much about 3 delight either but I think it'll be easier to learn then diving into Blender. Although I do recognize I might have to learn Blender anyway if support for 3 delight and VSS drops entirely. Really sad to not see a trace of pwtoon on the store as an example.

    Wow! That's stunning! Well done! If I saw that on DeviantArt or Instagram I'd definitely not immediately guess that it's 3D. I think it's VERY close to "passing" for 2D! You're getting such a great style and look with your process!

    Check out my free Photoshop action . This not straight forward though , you need to dial or make changes in several parameters because each render is different . I believe I`m also include the rough documentation how to use it
