October, 2025 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Atmosphere, Ghosts and Special Effects
Beginner challenge - "Atmosphere"
- Evoking a particular emotional or aesthetic quality
- Atmospheric perspective, also known as aerial perspective, refers to the effect the atmosphere has on the appearance of an object as it is viewed from a distance
- In addition to creating a sense of depth, atmospheric perspective can be used to express environmental conditions and time of day in a work of art
Creating atmosphere in art is more than simply using some godrays, fog or dust in an image. It is creating a feeling; a sense of place or time. It needs to enhance and bring attention to the subject matter.

Threed printsI have 'new' neighbours who have turned out to be feral.
They have built a huge deck right up to my boundary and have glassed ballustrading and sit at their stools and watch me in the garden and look down to where I am working
and tell me how beautiful it is to look at my garden. Thare are special kind of wits.
The deck is nothing like the application they put into council. So I have to address that, I need time for that for other reasons. The deck is supposed to be at least 90 cm from the boundary maybe more.
Their kids get in the spa till all hours until I yell at them to go inside so we can sleep.
The father tells me he can't do anything. Just to yell at them - very relaxing for us.
In response I have a truckload of tree seedlings coming (the neighbours had the audacity to cut back outr fully grown trees to about a metre on our own land while we were away on holidays.)
I am presently printing a few of these "Trail Cams" to leave on the border of our property in conspicuous places to try and stop them trespassing.
I downloaded the original file from thingyverse then redesigned it.
i presently have alexa playing relaxing piano music very LOUDLY so I can't hear the spa party.
The Dummy Can original free file Dummy Trail Camera by spartacusisfree - Thingiverse
my version, Carrara render,
the lens hole will be covered by a glass cabochon (you use them for making doll's eyes) , I still have to print out the aerial
the redesign done in 3d builder, it's a simple program that uses simple techniques but works okay - great for booleans
and the end product is good to three d print as it fixes glitched automatically

coo coooo.. Well done Stezza.. :) You are doing great with the modeling.. thanks for sharing.
Buy Something That Doesn't Work in Carrara? Post your Questions and Workarounds here. (please)moving stuff around in one's content library apparently
Carrara (not DAZ studio) asks me where it is!!!
this is just browsing to the library, not actually loading anything
smart content doesn't work in DAZ studio for me anyway but I think Carrara might still use it to some extent
I just plonked stuff by Predatron fom 4 different locations into one of his folders, the duf files, and Carrara asked me to browse to and find every one of them!
DAZ Studio doesn't, it just loads them from wherever I put them
No one asked me - Diomede screenshots on whatever - Warning AI Discussion OKThanks. Have found some good public domain films for reference videos, similar to using the Carnegie Mellon bvh library. Most are very old (naturally) and have significant problems. Many have frame rates of 30 FPS. Many are grainy and blurred. Others have non-standard dimensions. I have been spending more time trying to learn how to clean them up, convert FPS yet keep the usefulness, convert dimensions, etc. Once I get a minimum motion collection I will post a more ambitious animation with Carrara characters involved in some short sketch.

Off Topic Thread #2I have used both the Alembic export and obj series export and dforce worked in both in Blender/Octane Standalone/Unreal Enngine for abc and Carrara for obj's respectively
I do use a much older version as since it worked I never updated, a separate obj import can give you the textures

Honestly there are many lanscaping and vegetation programs which are much more realistic than DzStudio. You must find a way to import these. One of my favorite is Gaea from Quad spinner. Plant factory from Eon/Bentley is also a must, so is Vue (both are now free), the render engine is really old, but imported in Daz, it can be fabulous.
There are also some vendors who are making outstanding products for DazStudio : HowieFarkes is my favorite, MartinJfrost is making extremely realistic plants, Predatron is also good enough.
With all that you can make your own landscapes with vegetations, it's more time consuming but really worth it.
Have fun !
on this topic
many have used Vue to render HDRi panoramic images because it is particularly good at that and landscapes, volumetric clouds, biomes
Bryce isn't bad either, or Carrara
Vue is the leading choice I have noticed among PAs

Cool stuff, as always, a few different tunes/toons in plain sight!
Was this rendered with a Carrara toon plug-in, or some built-in shading?

Dforce animation, the best way I found but it takes a lot of drive space
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/428856/sagan-a-daz-studio-to-blender-alembic-exporter
use the obj series option
import sequenced obj by DCG
obviously you need the plugin installed
Thanks. Would you say the same without dforce? I see lamh has several options. Just trying to waste less time on trial and error.pointless for things not Dfrorce
LAMH a different thing entirely, the Catalyzer only loads as obj on render AFAIK and massive files so doubt doable
you can convert to mesh on a Tposed character and try rigging it but again thats a massive file and gets distortion
using Carrara hair with any length and density map images is the best option
also for Dforce, if doing short animations https://www.daz3d.com/dforce2morph is quite good but you need to save a morph for each pose and have to keyframe them so zero other frames
I just happen to have a little dforce animation I wanted to play with. DS takes longer to render also. I did get the full LAMH. It sounds like you can use some other options besides obj. I am not even certain about what morphs to include when exporting. The bridge is pretty straight forward, but throw in hair/fur and it suddenly gets more tedious. The downside to going between products. Thanks for the info. It's kind of a bummer when the details of the process get in the way of the creative flow. Lol.

ha this just came up on my feed, the comments are interesting, all modelled and rendered and animated in anim8or in 2008 before i moved over to carrara
just morphs, no bones about it.
propellor effects are spinning transmaps
how time flies
I like that. Transitions and relationships work. I enjoy the music. Is it icelandic?
No one asked me - Diomede screenshots on whatever - Warning AI Discussion OKFor the video linked in the post above this one, here are screenshots of the Carrara scene and the ComfyUI Wan Vace nodes.

@Jan_Scrapper this is the link to the second USC, USC2 commercial thread where you can find a lot of issues others have had, solutions, inspirations, suggestions and just fun experiments. In 2021 the compatible vesion of D|S was 4.15 but now it is listed at 4.24. And Accelerator for UltraScenery was listed as 4.14 in 2020. Remember, you can always have two versions of Daz Studio installed, so long as you protect the current one you have by slightly changing the name. But one rule of thumb to remember, let DIM install all scripts, plugins, and add-ons.
I am really interested in installing the newest Daz Studio. I have several Genesis 8.1 products and even Genesis 9 things I would love to use.
I did read that I could install a second Daz Studio, however I must install a Beta Version. I might even have to install it on my D drive. My computer has 2 drives and the C drive is almost full :(
I installed Carrara on the D Drive and it works just fine. I only use it to take props apart and correct free 3d models. I don't actually know how to make anything.
I'm glad you told me that I should use DIM to install all scripts, plugins and add-ons. I had never let DIM install anything for me until 2 years ago. I wanted to reinstall all of my hair files automatically. So, I changed to path of where to install all of my hair, which was my hair library. I have many libraries...all on external hard drives. So only Daz Studio is on my hard drive.
So, do I just make up the folder for Daz Studio under my D:Programs and let DIM install it? I show on the attachment where I think I would change the path to install a second Daz Studio.
If I mess up my current Daz Studio, I do not have a backup up that version :( I still cannot believe I did that, but I did! I tried to use Daz Studio 15 years ago, but never actually learned. Then, I wanted to use Genesis so badly, that I began using Daz Studio in 2018, I believe. I downloaded the current version at that time and installed it. Where my downloaded copy is, I just do not know!! I am showing my versions of Daz Studio that I have. Of course, when I open DIM to download products, it shows the 4.24 version of Daz Studio. I attached a copy of that. I go to my products listing on the Daz3d Site and it shows Daz Studio version 4.25. So, I am a little confused about which version to install and why I have to have DIM install my Daz Studio software.
I am absolutely interested in learning UltraScenery. I have to purchase add-ons a little at a time and when they go on sale.
Thank you so much for your advice!!
Threed printsHmm sorry to hear that Wendy.
Mine's been handy so far fingers crossed. You know that expresion 'give a boy a hammer and the whole world becomes a nail'.....
So far I've made a zillion surfboard fins, a few tablet stands, some brackets for my caravan, a cover for my sewere alarm thingy, salt container lids, solar panel holders - and some weird sculprure thingies/.
Windows 3d builder is a gem if you ever need it s- imple as, has good booleans.
Carrara is good for organics but for simple geometry 3d builder is goodererer , comes free with windows 10
Tinkercad on line is okay but cumbersome

Can you help me with a college project?- How long have you used Daz 3D Studio?
- I first used DS at version 0.7.xx beta in 2005. I continued with its development until 2007 when it became apparent my PC couldn't cope with Victoria 4 or Genesis. I took a break until 2019 when I got hold of a vastly more powerful ex-work machine that I could upgrade further quite cheaply. Since then, I've stuck with DS.
- Do you use any other software with Daz 3D? (bridges, photo editing, or other rendering software)
- I do use other software. As a creator of a certain amount of freebie content, I do use various other programs. Due to my history as a design engineer, stress engineer and amateur programmer, some of my programs are unique. I use my own copy of SolidWorks to model mechanical items. The version of SolidWorks I have and DAZ Studio have no common formats or bridges, so I export to STL format, use my own STLtoOBJ translator, clean the model in my own home written 3d modeller (which I originally used to create stress models with and have repurposed by adding additional functions). Then I either texture map in my modeller or in 'UVMapper Free'. I create textures in 'PaintShopPro 5' or 'GIMP' (only if PSP5 can't do it). Normal maps and bump maps are generated from textures using 'Materialize'. Then, I collect and zip a distribution package together using 'Windows Explorer' or '7Zip' - depends how lazy I feel. I have used Carrara and Pegasus 4.1, neither of which have got to finished products yet. Hexagon and Blender work well for artistic types and the way they think. I'm an engineer, and both programs feel irrational in the way they work to me. Blender by & large only has video tutorials - which are unsearchable, and hugely inefficient in time and bytes and seem to always miss the single piece of information I've wasted 30 minutes watching for.
- How easy or difficult was it to learn Daz Studio?
- I thought it fairly easy to use to a basic level. Due to the catastrophic inadequacies of the documentation, it is far from easy to use to its limits.
- Did you have to purchase a specific computer to use the application?
- I did not have to. I chose to buy one. My second hand work computer was satisfactory, but getting very long in the tooth as it dated back to 2013, and I replaced it at 10 years old.
- How much money have you spent at the marketplace or other third-party sites for content?
- These days I have a monthly discretionary spending budget of £60 for all my hobbies. These include fountain pen making, metalworking, model trains and cross stitch. This hobby has to take its place in that.
- What kinds of bugs or errors have you ran into?
- None really. I don't push the program to its limit so really only use tried and tested features.
- Is there anything you would change about the application?
- It needs, desperately, an adequate WRITTEN handbook. Video is unsearchable, hopelessly inadequate and grossly inefficient in terms of bytes an time, at recording every function, syntax, script use etc. Not only would it document all the functions for the users, it would also ensure that the programmers document every function so nobody looses track of any function or nuance.
One thing that may be of interest to gather is what users consider to be DS's unique selling points. To me, it's rendering quality and UltraScenery. No doubts.
Regards
Richard
