  • Instructions for pw Toon?

Well, my laptop is running 4.9 and it had no issues with pwToon. Thats why I originally created the thread. I was on my pc (4.8) and had the same issue I cant seem to resolve. So, seeing as how it works in 4.9 on my laptop anyways, and since I want the iray fixes, im just going to jump into 4.9.

    Back in a moment...

It's weird, because PWToon was out in, what, 4.6? Seems odd 4.8 would give you trouble that I'm not seeing in 4.9.

Again, how are you applying the shaders? Which specific presets are you applying? Try something dramatic, like 'blueprints.'

My portfolio has a few PWToon results: http://willbear.deviantart.com/gallery/57434107/Portfolio

Since Will's showing his gallery, I'll just point to my all-new signature. My deviantArt and Renderosity galleries have a lot of older stuff, but there's plenty of pwToon stuff all throughout my galleries. I experimented a lot until I found a look that I really liked.

Cool. Ill check out your gallery as well.

I definetely am having problems with pw Toon in ds 4.8. The shaders simply wont apply. Any thoughts?

Although, honestly, for PWToon I'm not sure much of that is necessary. I usually go double size simply to make the lines a little smoother.

I really like doing B&W lineart style. You can get most of the way there by choosing the 'Blueprints' preset and tweaking a few things.

I am also a huge fan of PWToon. ;)

Granted, I like doing other styles a bunch, but I love the control it gives.

This is interesting. Just the base shaders are cool enough. Ill most defenitely have to play with the controls. Do I need to mess with things like gamma, etc? I never really figured that out about 3dl.

Poseworks, the original creator of pwToon, still has his website up and running. The explanation for what's what can be found here: http://www.poseworks.com/shaders/pwtoon/

If you need some presets, Crescent made an excellent set and they can be found here: http://www.sharecg.com/v/69733/favorite/21/DAZ-Studio/Crescents-pwToon-Cel-Shaders

I'm a big fan of pwToon and use it almost exclusively. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help in any way I can.

Excellent. Ill definetely check those out. I dont know why I had trouble with it earlier. Its just a shader package but for some reason I couldnt get them to apply(?) and render. 4.8 issue? User error (probably).

If you use DAZ install manager. look at the file list and find this file. It shows the whole manual.

Unfortunately the link referenced in the read me doesn't work.

Oh geez! I glanced right over it and didnt even notice it in the folder. Thanks MarcCCTx.

  • how do I import Blender characters into Daz?

I tried a few times with catastrophic results. The imported character would look like they took a trip through  a taffy machine. I tried to find a guide but all I found was props and objs. The characters are already rigged as a colada file. I don't really want to go though the obj rigging and stuff. I want to use my characters since they are lower polygon and actually mine, instead of using the higher polygon Daz models. I also want to use daz as an output because of the PWToon and ghost shaders. This way if Daz takes a nose dive I can fall back on Blender and possibly their freeform overlay shader, although I don't know how to use it or how well it does simple textures.

Here are some minor questions, based on what I've noticed with the daz models.

    1) I noticed that all the joints are in their own mesh and that to have a clean mesh that wouldn't lag my machine much I had to join them and remove over 6k doubles. Do I have to do something like that or can daz understand a true unified mesh with weight paints? I also remember having a lot of trouble getting daz to work with my custom meshes. I would build something that is designed to be a solid obkect, follow every tutorial exactly, make sure when I split the model that it the vertices are perfectly overlapping but when it came time for rigging it would fall apart at the seams.

    2) Speaking of unified mesh I seem to recall that the Genesis series is supposed to have a unified mesh but it too is all chopped up upon examining the obj and exports. What does unified mesh mean anyway? Blender works best with a closed mesh and the armature bends the mesh quite well via vertex groups and weight painting. Why does Daz chose to have all the joints on their own mesh?

    3) A quick search showed that Poseworks no longer appears on the PW shader list, it's now a daz original. What happened while I was busy, did Poseworks move onto something else?

    4) Can pwtoon be used without daz, say within 3d delight pro itself?

Well, that's about all I can think of. Thanks for reading and have a great day

  • My topic was closed and I need help for real.

Okay, so the anime look is straight forward with the help of products like @Sickleyield and @Fuseling - http://www.daz3d.com/sf-anime-character-builder

PWtoon is a shader set so as a general rule will work with anything you choose to apply it too.

There are a lot of products that could help - for hair http://www.daz3d.com/dg-toon-style-hair-shaders

A lot of morph packs are available for G3 - @Zevo http://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-3-bundle is incredibly useful for scaling and @RawArt has http://www.daz3d.com/dwarfology-morphs-for-genesis-3-female-s-hd which are also useful for scaling

Short answer is "yes" you can do it all with Genesis 3 - it really depends whether you want to invest in G3 or if you are happy with what you are getting with Genesis I guess.

    This is what I need.

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-supersuit

http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-eyebrows (VERY CRITICAL) The eybrows dissapears when you apply certain toon shaders.

These are the morphs that are critical.

So, do they exist for Genesis 3? or Simular (Sorry the search engine truly suck, it's like finding a needle in a haystack)

And No, i don't want to take a freefall and bet it'll work. Daz3D have 0 refound.

If someone could solve this It would be helpful but It seriously look like that wont happen :/

If that's what you need you may be better sticking with Genesis as all the products you need you have listed and are Genesis products.

I need simular to Genesis 3. These is what I currenly own. I noticed it's possible to actually change the feet somewhat without the metabone for Genesis 3. You

can do the poor man version. Still, the other stuff, does it exist simular to Genesis 3?

pwToon is a shader, it doesn't care which figure you are using. For the rest, it isn't really clear what you are asking - perhaps post base and morphed figures side-by-side, with a regular shader, so that you goal is a bit clearer.

I want to be able to morph everything. So far it seems the Genesis 3 lacks a lot of these things if Gen X does not work of course.

Example, you can even change eyes on Genesis 1, you can even pluck them out and create some real nasty critters. (Is it possible with Genesis 3)?
