  • There's Always Another Sale Thread -- Discussions Only

    AlmightyQUEST said:

    tsroemi said:

Guys, if we all start reporting sales problems here now as well as in the Sales thread, the mods are gonna go insane. Let's stick to keeping the discussions HERE and the problems THERE, no?

The original thread was always a combination of discussing sales and asking about potential issues with sales. It's not unusual to be confused about what the sale is and isn't supposed to do. If we don't ask, we don't know if there's actually an issue to report, or is someone else can point out something we missed and there's no issue at all.

The current model for reporting on issuies inside a forum thread is just weird. Forums always used to be primarily for community driven discussions and support and if community itself cannot find a fix for an issue then they would recommend an user to open a support ticket. If a lot of tickets are flowing in about an issue it should escalate itself naturally.

Here for some odd reason moderators are openning tickets even though there is a ticket service avalible under "Help". Kudos to them for doing extra work, but i feel like thats just teaches people to not use the existing ticket system and rely on moderators for all issues. If they have to make ticket or else tickets made by common users dont get fast enough resolutions that the ticket system is an issue.

Those are beautiful! In regards to your comment about notification emails, there have been issues with them of late as well as forum problems with the icons and attachments. It all seems to come and go but Daz is aware of the problem, so hopefully, they can get it fixed in the near future.

Thanks Frank!  Hmm... I haven't gotten any Daz emails in a few months. I had for years anf they just stopped one day all of a sudden and none since. I hope the problem hasn't been going on that long:) I have no idea why I stopped getting the daily Daz emails. So instead I just drop in here once in a while.

  • bicep peak for Genesis character

I've tinkered with this a little on Genesis 9.

Here's a sample and parameter dials screenshot where I set the parameter dial limits to 300% on the main automatic flexion controller dial and on the bicep flex dials.  That made a marked difference in bicep flexing.  Haven't played around with the other flex dials much, but probably works the same if needed.

Forum not allowing image uploading of my samples.  Will edit this post when it works. :)

Look forward to seeing your pics, but that's a great idea. I might have to experiment with that a bit. Thanks for that.

  • How to manage thousands of products ?

    Taoz said:

Here's an offline database (Windows) for all your DAZ products with DS Product Library integration (locate any installed DAZ product with a couple of clicks).  DS Library integration requires DS 4.12.1.117 or later and that your products are installed with DIM, currently no Connect support (may possibly come later).  Free up to 250 products.

    http://taosoft.dk/software/pm-daz/

    A couple of demo videos:

(this is from the current build, with improved search (AND plus EXCLUDE), not released yet)
    https://www.screencast.com/t/kQ4u0UF4ohD
(current public release, showing DS integration)
    https://www.screencast.com/t/ofZEsVpkwyN

I am so thankful that Taoz has taken the time to develop this.  It is the ONLY package that I have found that automates what can normally be a very tedious and time-consuming process.  I appreciate the continuous effort that goes into keeping this thing working with the store changes that occur from time to time.  I do hope there will be a exporting/reporting feature added at some point.  I have this idea about creating a flip-book of my Daz library that I can't seem to forget about.  This would have to be an automated process as I have a bloated library that I began in 2006.  In any event, the modest price tag for the paid version is a true bargain in my opinion.  I also look forward to the next Rendo iteration of Product Manager so I can update my database.

    Thanks Taoz!

So I have only used the original Daz Mil Horse, the DH2 and the HiveWire Horse (Harry). I'll be curious to see what folks do with the "new stud on the block", when it comes out. The anatomy definitely looks a bit odd to me with 35+ years as a horse owner, rider and trainer.  I just found out about this/saw this thread, as for whatever reason I'm not getting the daily store emails from Daz anymore.

Some VERY old 3d horse history here! :)

  • Another 2D Rendered Image Rights Question - Distant Backgrounds for a created set?

Greetings.  Intent would be to sell a 3D set of my creation.  Variations of this question have probably been asked and answered many times, so what is the harm of one more time?  I have an idea for a 3D setting that takes place in the tropics.  I intend to create a few buildings along with props that fit my intended time period and theme.  I also intend to create a detailed landscape ground and plants suitable for foreground 3D usage - 'hero' 3D models.  So far so good.  But for the more distant setting, am I allowed to render my existing tropical-related Daz3D assets to create and use as a background image to be placed on a distant plane/placard/arc/dome, or similar device?  For example, could I use UltraScenery to render a distant tropical forest and place the image on a distant plane when the camera faces my set in the direction of the island interior?  Could I use one of my many beach or ocean sets to do the same for when the camera faces my set in the direction of the island shoreline?  Could I do something silly like stick a rendered image of a UFO bought from Daz3D in the rendered background sky?  Do I genuinely have full rights for rendered 2D images of my Daz3D 3D assets, including using the 2D images as backgrounds incorporated in 3D sets that I create (not selling a separable set of backgrounds)?  I could see this going either way, which is why I am asking.

EDIT - Example of one similar approach.  Jefferson AF has an environment set called My Corner of the Forest.  There is a great detailed 3D set foreground, surrounded by a mid ground of lower res 3D instances.  But the distant background of 'My Corner of the Forest' is a 2D image placed on a curved plane surrounding the detailed foreground set.  Can I use my Daz3D environment assets to render a 2D background that I place on a curved plane that surrounds my set, and then sell my set with the curved plane incorporated?  EDIT 2 - I tried to attach a screenshot of the Jefferson AF My Corner of the Forest set but forum is acting up.  EDIT 3 - third time is the charm.  See attached pic of curved plane surrounding set.

  • queston about membership and Freebies
Not entirely sure what you're meaning. As a registered user of DAZ Studio you can download the weekly freebies (which seem to be bi-weekly at the moment). You have access to DAZ programs like DAZ Studio and the Hexagon modeller for free, the base content for each generation of characters and a fair bit of other content. You can download free content offered by other users in the freebie forum. That's a fair bit to be going on with. Then if you become a DAZ+ member, there is a weekly freebie and a monthly freebie. Don't forget places like Renderosity (I've got around 170 freebies offered there), Deviant Art and ShareCG also have hundreds, if not thousands, of freebie items - registration only required. No money need be exchanged for membership plans (except DAZ+), and personally, I avoid paid membership schemes because there is so much free content. Regards, Richard.

As I understand it that's a simple approximation by distance that works in most cases. May "smooth" too much.

    @Padone

Yes, I tried it, and it's a pretty naive algorithm. It smooths way too much even before one begins to see a meaningful reduction in the number of keyframes. Thanks, though.

The financial market domain is rich with curve-fitting/smoothing tools that help investers 'see' trends buried in noisy trading graphs. I wonder if there are any OS/PD libraries that might be useful in simplifying and de-noising animation (and mocap) data... Sorry I don't know enough to recommend even the simplest of toolkits, but it might be a possible resource to draw from.

    --ms

Through my job I've got access to NTRS and CORE. I'll do a search. I've also go access to Matlab, LabView, and SimuLink; maybe there's something in the libraries that come with them. But I think the path of least resistance would be to grok Richard Roberts's algorithm... it's just kind of hard to figure out when I can't see nything because I no longer have access to Maya. I think it'd be the final missing piece.

....would love to have material zones designated for hair as well.

Absoulutely agree with this. I love the promos that show material zones on outfits.

Maybe a big warning for outfits that are actually 'one-piece' and not kit-bashable. I accidentally bought two recently and checked finally the word salad and saw that yes, a lot of mess, but no reference to Boots, Pants, Shirts, Hat.... One is okay, but I still have to test the other. I really only wanted it for the bits, not the full look.

...I picked up one but  for some reason cannot change the textures and there are no alternate textures that come with it or sold separately. I also create game characters and often kitbash outfits not just components but changing the textures. it is as if there is some sort of overlay on this one as in OpenGL mode this can see the new texture, but whenever I switch to Iray View or render it still has the default texture. I put up a thread on another forum but still no real concrete or simple solutions.

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-seljuk-turkish-princess-outfit-for-genesis-8-females

I have tried everything I could and cannot change the textures dress or shirt part (it isn't because of hierarchical materials as I can swap in other textures on those with no trouble).   As it is G8 item and we are now apparently solidly in "G9-land",I don't expect a separate textures set to be released so I may just return it as I'm still within the 30 days of purchase.  Pity, it's a nice clothing set.

See... this is exactly why I never use my celebrity status to hawk products like magical clean energy frankfurters or zombie repellent...

But the zombie repellent is really very effective and if I were to recommend one it would definitely be Zom-B-Gone...

It's the only one I trust and if you don't want your loved ones to be painfully eaten by mindless zombies, it's really the only responsible choice... unless of course you hate your loved ones...

Adding the hair wasn't difficult, but getting the lighting right took a lot of fiddling.  And unlike what I have heard recently on this forum, Carrara hair loads very slowly - even with 24 buckets.  Testing the lighting took a couple of hours.  I do love having the hair available to use - but it ain't fast. :)
