  • Long Load Times – Why is this still a problem?

There is some utility that I bought from DAZ a few years ago that goes through your directories and renames the extensions of the morph's you want to "turn off". It really improved load times. But, I forgot the name of the product! I am looking at DAZ again after a hiatus, and am trying to remember what this thing was called and how to invoke it!

  • Remixing your art with AI

I know I'm late to this thread and that it's spawned its share of heartburn on the topic of AI, but I wanted to acknowledge the many wonderful examples of its use here as a tool in a workflow, and to share a few of my early tests. For the longest time, I have been plagued by my inability to push my 3D renders over that frustrating, though increasingly permeable, line into reality. I'm hardly the first to do this, but using a locally installed instance of Stable Diffusion as a sort of "post-production filter" in my workflow, I've wound up with a result that's at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing and promising to me. Starting out with DAZ renders of a morph-tweaked iteration of Krashwerks' Anuschka, I'm using an SD model called Paragon (in this instance), one of several that are very good at photorealism. Having found a balance between the Denoising and CFG factors in SD that respect both my text prompts and the input image (the raw 3d render), the net result is a hybrid of the original 3D render and the AI output that allows me to preserve the integrity of hands, feet, clothing, props, and some other features in postwork. Anuschka's face, as seen in the examples, is the AI's interpretation of her using just a breath of SD's Face Restore. Since the same person can look slightly different in the real world depending upon lighting and other factors, I find the facial fidelity across the output images to be satisfactorily believable, overcoming one of my biggest AI frustrations, next to hands and feet. Again, my goal is not to make a viewer commit to a perception that my images are photographs of real people, but only to cause them to believe it long enough for them to ask themselves whether the subjects might be real, and ultimately to allow them to fiind some beauty in the content. If I can do that, then - for now - my efforts are successful.

NOTE: One huge benefit to AI post-processing I've noticed is that the AI tends to identify and correct several notorious shortcomings of 3D rendering, such as telltale 3D facial characteristics, unconvincing interactions between soft bodyparts, as well as unrealistic collisions between soft bodyparts and solid or soft surfaces.

EDIT: I seem unable to upload images at the moment, so I'll come back to this.

I wish there were something that can convert genesis 2 morph to genesis 8 just using .dsf without even having to open daz studio... But anyway, I think "transfer ulitity" might do the job...

makes me wonder what you are using the morphs for if not wanting to use them in Daz Studio. I hope it is not for game use since mods are prohibited.

I still want to use them in Daz Studio, of course. It is just that I only want to convert the morph. So theoretically there must be a way that I don't have to open Daz (let alone load a G2 and G8 relative morphs...), just converting the dsf morph files for G2 directly to dsf morph files for G8.

In principle, you could do it yourself in a spreadsheet. The morph files are human readable text files with information on where each of the vertices should move when the morph is applied.

All one needs to do, is create a translation table between the vertices of G2 and G8, then create a morph that makes G8 form identical to G2, and map each movement of the G2 vertex in the morph one wants to translate to a nearby vertex on the morphed G8.

There are ways to use transfer utility tool to convert morphs, but it will certainly not convert anything without opening DS (if only because it's a part of DS).

Moreover it won’t be easier than using an automated conversion tool.

What do the "body_bs" and "body_cbs" files in the G9 morph folder stand for?  "corrective" something?  Does AutoFit need to convert all of these files to G8?  There can be many of them.

The Converted Character’s Body is wrinkled.  Because of the way that morphs must be converted, a morph that on Genesis 8 appears to only touch a small part of the head can affect the whole body on Genesis 9. You need to show Currently Used parameters to show all morphs on the converted character.  Then, one by one, dial in the morphs to find the offending morph(s).  Once you find them, delete the morphs from your hard drive (click the Gear icon, Parameter Settings, and look at File Path for the asset to figure out where the morph is and what it is called).  You should also resave the character with the offending morph(s) dialed out (set to 0).

    Thanks @Karen too for answering.

"Then, one by one, dial in the morphs to find the offending morph(s)." Please explain this a bit better. The way I'm reading this is that I have to do a conversion with each morph individually zeroed one conversion at a time to figure out which morph is causing the problem?

I get it's a monumental task creating this utility and getting it to work but his seems like a serious pain in the a__ to complete these conversions, I have somewhere around 140 Genesis 8/8.1 characters in my library and I'm thinking that if I have to do this with any character I want to convert...? Go through this process every time I do a conversion?

For the record, I have and use many of your products regularly without issue and with satisfaction. But this? It's a bit much.

  • Using (converting) genesis 2 morphs on (to) genesis 8,

For a long time I thought genesis 2 morphs on genesis 8 because of backward compatibility of Daz. But today I found it is not possible. Namely I cannot find any genesis 2 morph for genesis 8.

I wonder if I just want to use/convert genesis 2 morphs on genesis 8 (instead of whole character including the textures etc.), is there an easy way?

  • Long Load Times – Why is this still a problem?

From what I have seen, loading a scene is a recursion feature.  You've noticed the little yellow progress bar down at the right bottom as the system processes overlapping fits and shells and what nots.  Now consider, when you load a scene, these all have to be reloaded, but, and here's the problem, there is no way to tell the system to stop fitting asynchronously.  So, it loads the first thing, takes a bit.  Then, you load another, then a morph, which sends fit commands to all the clothes, and then another morph, which sends refit commands to everyting before it, very soon you are in a factorial game, N! and your load times go crazy.  Want to test?  Unfit everyting, clothes, shells, morphs you can leave alone, and save as a new scene.  Loads fast, doesn't it?

The 'Ariana Day Out' Bundle is interesting for D+ members. $ 5.99 plus a Spotlight item is nice. I bought the bundle mainly because of the SUV and the hair. Ariana is ok as a kinda unlikable character, although she looks somewhat similar to the other kinda unlikable character in my collection, Victoria 9. I'll convert the little dress into a fantasy outfit with some shaders and add leggings and boots. The shoes - well, not my cup of tea.

@carvelle, I bought the bundle afterall and finished a render of Ariana in the dress, which has a welcomed skirt length morph and others. The high heels, well, the character would have to be standing on her toes to wear them. I used some sandals for my render. I generally don't do open mouth smiles (teeth baring = threat in my mind) but I did one from a pose set with expressions and it turned out okay. I would post but... forums being cranky. I am not sure about her teeth, I have seen folks refer to some teeth as chicklets and that might describe hers. Again, I rarely expose them, although there was no issue with smile sliders or other expressions. I did not try either of the two makeup options. I wish this PA would take a little more time with the promos, as it may cost them sales. I have avoided them in the past for this issue.

    Mary

Thanks so much for your descriptions, I'm still on the fence about the bundle. Would you say you like the character overall? Because fhe promos really don't say much ...

Sorry about the delay, I fell down a rabbit hole of 'haplogroups' and ancient migration patterns yesterday and again this morning.

As far as Ariana goes, she is okay. Does she shout to me she is a star? No, and a star is too noticable to everyone, you need a character actress that can become who you need. Other than that one render, I didn't play with her anymore. (That rabbit hole had me firmly in its grips.) But, she posed nicely, her sliders for expressions worked well. I have had some characters where their faces never moved a muscle and frustrated me no end. I think I would need to use her more often in other ways to get a better feel for her. I think any number of people here on the forums could do a lot with her based on what I have seen them post in the past.

As far as the SUV goes, yeah XI has an unfortunate habit of using large texture sets, though they have gotten better at adding lower level ones in recent packages. Suggest the MMX sets to reduce size or the one of the other products that reduces stress on your computers? (My old iMac needs to be rebooted right now and I can't think of the name off my 71-year-old head.) I haven't tried it on neither my MacBookPro M1 nor my Win 10 1080 or 1080Ti computers, so I don't know if it crash them. I have been able to render the XI Christmas New York scene without issue thought.

AND it appears I was half right about the HEAD/BODY named morphs converting correctly. The BODY named morphs are converting correctly (the default G8 male head doesn't convert as part of the body morph), but all of the HEAD named morphs are converting with the G8 male body as part of the morph. It was kind of easy to miss during the conversion process, didn't noticed it until I tried to use one of the converted characters.

When you load the regular 8.1 characters, are they named in the scene?  The name is what the script uses to name the CTRL.  If not, you will need to rename the CTRL property dsf (and modify the preset that sets it) between each conversion.

For the second, I am not sure what you mean but I will investigate.

love how you dont mention the file formats you are talking about.

If your "morphs" are .obj mesh files that are already imported into morph loader and saved as either Scene file or morph asset in one of your Content libraries, then you can delete the obj.  If you have them saved as morph asset in a Content directory, then you can delete the Scene file too.

SBH wearable presets have embedded geometry saved as an encrypted binary string, so converting SBH scene files to presets probably isnt going to save you much space vs just having them in a Scene or Scene Subset.

Saving out all your files as compressed presets/assets rather than uncompressed could save space.

Sometimes it's easier just to get another SSD.  Theyre cheap now.

love how you dont mention the file formats you are talking about.        blush

Brilliant that's what I thought but wasn't sure.

My early SBH test creations are saved as scene duf files and my latter are all saved as Scene Subset.

My main concern are the SBH Scene Subset files which are more than 100+ hair style projects, I would like to archive these projects to revisit/complete at a later date.   I thought I could archive via Zip format and reload back into DS for later use.

The other big one are all the DS character figures I have created and save as Scene duf files, at present these are working characters which I use frequently in several ongoing projects ....I have quite alot ..LOL smiley  Can these be archived via zip format too.

And if anyone, understands Native Instruments core plugins on C drive.  Thus far I have move NI/Kontact 6 presets to another drive (F drive) without screwing it up and that has free-up at least 12GB, but now I have NI wanting to download a new Kontact 7 plugin and its presets.   I would love to download the Kontact 7 and its presets to F drive, as I have 500GB of available space waiting with open arms.

The morphs you used on G8 and G9 are different, in other words, the base figures are different, the change of Vertex Positions of the morphs are different, but the mechanism are always the same.

If you dial G8F Clone on G9 to 100%, convert the morphs of G8F to G9 then dial them on G9, you will find the same results just as what you have on G8F.

That worked if and only if I had a G8 clone morph dialed in at -100%. But it doesn't make G9 character morphs act like G8 character morphs. I guess that's why I haven't noticed G9 characters showing them mixed in with other figures—it just doesn't work as well anymore.

I'm sorry if I'm grumpy in this thread. I've put a lot of hours into trying to make this work and the best I've come up with is a figure with a wonky hack (-100% clone figure morph) where the rigging doesn't work properly, despite fitting bones to shape and freezing ERCs. The previous figure transitions were fun—I felt like I was upgrading my figures. This transition is just painful.

No problem lah ~ lots of us used to have the similar experience devil There were lots of experiments and lots of failures on the journey to get what we wanted... But my piece seems almost done in here, see if other veterans can help you with it..

There's been no official clone that you mentioned so far except for MMX's product, but you can create one by yourself. Pretty easy. I created one with ERC Freeze and used Morph Loader Pro to transfer all fixed cbs morphs from G9's garment to G8's converted one, perfect and fast. If you need the tutorial, pls feel free to PM me.

I'm pretty sure others would also like to see your tutorial, esp. the part about transferring the morphs over as that is one step I did not cover in mine. Please feel free to post it {i.e. I don't mind, my philosophy is the more the merrier}.
