  • Iris Flower ?

@lou_harper, I have the Water Iris also.

Did a search in the store and one of HowieFarkes Carrara Sets has an Iris in it, https://www.daz3d.com/maple-meadows it is old, SKU 8138 and I don't know if you could render it in Carrara and import it into DAZ or not?

Finally found a DAZ Iris in a package by Gendragon3D and JeffersonAF, https://www.daz3d.com/variety-of-beautiful-plants-vol-2

I tried to see if there was another name or something for the common Iris, but no luck. I did find out that the complete plant, petals to bulb is poison. Didn't know that. Pretty flower though, but absolutely would not have around kids or pets.

  • Question on how to report an issue with a product?

Issues are reported at helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us which is linked to via the Contact Us link at the bottom of every page. I find that logging into the zendesk site interferes with the store/forum login so usually go via incognito/private mode. As it's the weekend they won't respond till Monday at the earliest.

Obviously, the more info you give them the easier it will be for them to investigate and/or action anything.

  • Question on how to report an issue with a product?

So I ran into an issue where as soon as I loaded a figure with Iray active on the preview, or tried to render an in iray, Studio would do a hard crash instantly to desktop.  This also happened when I loaded the base Gen8 figure, applied the morph and triggered once I applied the materials (skin).
After trying some of the more brutal fixes, uninstalling thousands of models, Studio, meticulously finding every bread crumb and purging those, and then reinstalling carefully after ensureing I was using updated NVidia drivers, etc., etc., I was still getting the same issue.
Eventually I stumbled across a thread pointing to .tif files being the issue.  I converted the .tif files to .jpg, did an edit of all the .duf files to replace references to the .tif files to the new .jpg files, and behold, it works perfectly.  So the issue wasn't Studio, be NVidia drivers, my install, etc., it was just that one figure, and more to the point, the materials for the skin on the figure.
At the end of the forum post it recommends reporting the product so that others don't have the same issues I just had and don't have to go through the huge timesink I did.
So: Question, how do I report a .tif file issue for a product?
The product in question was/is: Planetary Smuggler HD for Genesis 8 Male by GhostofMacbeth

I don't get it.  I looked on the other forum postings, where there are links to each numbered blink sale, and when I pull those up, there seem to be selections that differ from what I get on my screen.  I have a group of new blink sale items, which you have to purchase to get the discount on the next group down, the ten categories that offer discounts with purchase from that first group.  Where in Hades is the actual Blink Sale that changes every three hours?

The catagories stay the same; BUT the items in the catagories change every 3 hours.

....they do?  In the current 5.99$ Grab bag sale I notice quite a few of the same itmes I saw (including the item I mentioned above that purchased some 12 hours ago).

For 5.99 bracket its more accurate to say around 30% of items change.

There definitely are some items that I have seen only once, but plenty of items I have seen multiple times, and I am pretty sure quite a few show every time.

Yes, it part of series; but DAZ_Jack Tomalin  has indicated in the DAZ+ forums that it is not a mistake: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/7893581/#Comment_7893581

pity this cannot be clarified for non DAZ+ users to be able to read too instead of being restricted to a closed forum

we are still customers and would pay more for the props if we chose to buy them too

I love that PWToon is experiencing something of a revival.

     vrba79,

We have a good representation of NPR techniques, wouldn't you say? Phloki3D's technique using Octane, which he graciously shared, reminds me of juvesatriani notes for !JSFlat. Even Artini's use of Unity has been very interesting. Speaking of PWToons, I do find folks asking in the Commons forum about Daz NPR add-ons. The examples you and others shared lately should be inspiring.

    Cheers!

I have no idea why the Retro Apartment Props 2 should be under editorial license. Maybe the appliances but those are too generic. And there is no actual "Lemb" brand as far as I can tell. If you go to Shutterstock you find plenty of vintage appliance photos for commercial use.

I use stock photos all the time for book covers, so this whole commercial vs editoral thing is very familiar, but this one doesn't make any sense to me.

Search for the brand Smeg. Note the font and colour schemes used.

Okay, I can see it, but the shapes and colors are generic vintage. The font similarity arguably might push it over the line, but you can remove that. There are car models in the store that are far more problematic that don't have editorial restrictions.

PS. When I see "SMEG" I think of Red Dwarf.

Daz_Travis announced editorial licensing in July. As far as I can see, Daz implemented none of what we customers asked for in that forum thread, with regard to making the Editorial License very visible and filterable. There is only a little note on the product page that isn't displayed at all on a mobile device in portrait orientation. I don't see any "filter by license" option of any kind in the shop, my product library, or DIM. Am I overlooking all this capability, or is it just not there?

I just submitted a help request to return the Retro Apartment (Standard License), because Daz+ released the next part of the series with Editorial License.

  • Daz Studio Iray - Rendering Hardware Benchmarking

    outrider42 said:

Yes, Nvlink is dead. This could be good, or it could be bad. Indeed, using PCIe is what most believe the plan is, but not until gen 5. Being able to just use the PCIe would be awesome, but Nvidia only wanted certain cards to have Nvlink. So I would imagine that they would still try to limit users ability to pool VRAM in some way.

Believe it or not, Nvidia first introduced both hardware and driver-level support for pooling vram across multiple GPU's using the PCI-E bus all the way back in the Pascal days (ie. with the release of cards like the 1080ti.) Check out the following excerpt from this 2016 blog post:

Whenever a particular GPU touches data managed by Unified Memory, this data may migrate to local memory of the processor or the driver can establish a direct access over the available interconnect (PCIe or NVLINK).

Many applications can benefit from GPU memory oversubscription and the page migration capabilities of Pascal architecture. Data analytics and graph workloads usually run search queries on terabytes of sparse data. Predicting access patterns is extremely difficult in this scenario, especially if the queries are dynamic. Not only computational tasks but other domains like high-quality visualization can greatly benefit from Unified Memory. Imagine a ray tracing engine that shoots a ray which can bounce off in any direction depending on material surface. If the scene does not fit in GPU memory the ray may easily hit a surface that is not available and has to be fetched from CPU memory. In this case computing what pages should be migrated to GPU memory at what time is almost impossible without true GPU page fault capabilities.

It's just that Nvidia's implementation required certain types of sub operating-system-level access to GPU hardware on the software side that WDDM-based versions of windows (Vista and newer) made impossible. Making it effectively a Linux-only feature at the time. Which suited Nvidia fine, since the primary use-case for it was Nvidia's own DGX-1 line of ready-made Ubuntu-running rackmounted server class systems. Which feaured their own custom implementation of Iray at the time (notice that the Iray Server trial is - even to this day - a Windows or Linux comptaible download.)

CPU iterations may have gone up, but they are still weak for this task. I also wonder if the CPU doing more iterations is actually part of the problem that this new Iray has. Why is the CPU going faster while the GPU goes slower? Isn't that really odd? I believe they are connected. Does the CPU still render faster when it is the only rendering device?

Issues with the statement "part of the problem that this new Iray has" aside (since recent versions of Iray don't appear to have a particular problem functioning so far as I'm aware - it taking longer to complete iterations due to the complexity of iteration generation processes being increased in order to more realistically render diverse subject matter is a proper use-case for the saying "it's a feature, not a bug") the reason is almost certainly because of all the AI processing-oriented ASIC hardware the major CPU makers are putting into the modern chip designs, due to the current "AI" craze on the business/software development front. Most of those processing components offer substantial benefits to raytracing processes too, specifically.

Maybe we can have CPUs run the test to 180 iterations instead of 1800 so people don't have to wait so long, LOL.

Unfortunately any change to either iteration count or render dimensions (width x height) of any scene invalidates it for render performance comparison purposes, since changing any of those three values effectively randomizes the seed value used by Iray to determine which ray paths to trace and in what order. It's the equivalent to attempting to compare GPU performance by looking at the average FPS seen while playing a specific game during different sections of gameplay.

  • Remixing your art with AI

    manekiNeko said:
NOTE: not because of a lack of interest, but because i have other things to do and reaing forums is very tiring for me, everybody can answer to this, BUT I WON'T FOLLOW THIS THREAD ANY MORE. i thought it was just remixes of Ai, now it's a full scale Ai vs no Ai discussion, way too many posts etc etc. so i personally won't read your answer. sorry.

I wouldn't say it's become that. The currently active posters mostly agreed upon that it's for remixing ai mainly. Sometimes question or new aspects arise, so it gets discussed shortly. All in all, if we disregard your last post (and maybe mine too), the amount of area taken by images has largely increased in comparison, since the previous lengthy batch of discussion.

That being said, i probably should put it in the forum signature, because i can't repeat it all the time ~ i'm not blaming anyone for using the systems.

Just if you publish stuff, you might want to watch out for any results of current and pending lawsuits, for your own good...

(Depending on country and what you publish, it may not be an issue, as the worst that will happen is a platform taking it down, or a DMCA flying in. It can't be fully excluded, that if infringement is ruled, there will be some attorneys trying to make money with some kinde of takedown requests, probably rather in Germany, if that's still easy/possible there - so they won't look for artist's works, but instead try to detect ai-generated art and "nuke it". Typically they'd do that if they can intimidate people into paying some fee and signing off something. Such could in theory happen, but it likely also would be mentioned in the media fairly soon, and it might not be legal at all for the general case. There also has been some backlash for such practices, even in Germany.)
