Unlike the Content Management System, Install Manager (and Daz Central) note the exact location to which they installed files (including applications) and they use manifest files (.dsx files in the Manifests folder) to do so - if you moved the Manifests folder in with moving the Daz folder (which is likely if that was an originally Daz Central installation) then DIM and Daz Central will have forgotten what they installed. Telling them where the new Manifests folder is should at least enable them to remember what they have installed, though the paths listed will still be for the old location so you may want to reinstall (at least if you still have the zips).

4.12...yep that's the problem.
Unfortunately you must install DS through one of those other software. I only use DIM, Daz Install Manager myself. I tried the Daz Central and didn't care for it, but that's just me. I have a feeling you would prefer DIM.
Also, before you get too far, I would back up your 4.21 somewhere, or like I said, do the beta. The reason for this is that Iray is quite a bit different now.
You can install DS4 manually, load the files from your product Library... the beta version however is not available there. DS4beta needs to be downloaded with DIM (but you don't have to install it with that program; I don't use DIM, Daz Central or any other content mangler system, and have got several versions of DS4beta installed an working nicely next to my 'official install' of DS4.12. And as outrider42 mentioned, it is advised to make a copy of your DS4.12 folder!)

I purchased the latest 4.x version but when I check out I'm given the choice of either downloading and install something called "Daz Central" or "Install Manager". As I don't need more fluff on my machine how do I just download and install Daz Studio without all it's "helpful" tools?
Newbie needing help with Aging Morph installHi all,
I'm having the same issue even after following eponica instructions.
I installed Aging Morphs for Genesis 8 Male(s) via the Daz Central App like any other daz product. 8 body morphs are shown under this product in the Smart tab. I applied one of these to a Genesis 8 Male and nothing happend.
Under shaping>editor>Genesis 8 Male>Actor>Full Body and shaping>editor>Genesis 8 Male>Actor>Head none of the morph dials are present.
I then re-installed again via the Daz Central App and no luck.
I then did as eponica suggested and done a manual install of this 15996_AgingMorphsForGenesis_1.0_trx.exe from my daz account and again I dont see any of the morph dials.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong please? Many thanks
Eat, Drink annd be Merry Pose issuesHello there. Has anyone else had problems with FeralFey's/ Daz Originals' 'Eat, Drink and be Merry' pose pack? The poses are great but any props load as grey blocks. So far I've tried downloading the product with Daz Connect and DIM. Haven't tried Daz Central yet. It's a shame, as it's one of the very few pose packs that cover this area of hand-to-mouth eating poses.
Is there a way to hide/unhide the window panes?VicS said:
You can either "collapse" them by clicking the currently active pane tab
i clicked everywhere in the pane but it doesnt collapse
Don't click on the Pane itself but the Tab - the bit that has the name of the pane. The Main/Central area won't collapse but those to the left, right and bottom should do.

Ma allora si può disinstallare il DAZ Central?
Certo che puoi!
Anzi, DEVI!
Sebbene abbiano reso il DIM un offesa per gli occhi, resta comunque l'unico metodo valido per gestire le installazioni.
Central è, come dice Cornelius, nato male e cresciuto peggio. Connect era utile quando c'era il vincolo della criptazione dei pacchetti, ora che è stato rimosso è solo una seccatura, l'unica nota positiva di quel sistema è lo store dentro DAZ Studio.

Daz Studio Storing Morphs in wrong folder.Daz Luhrmann said:
To rule out any morph blocking issue, which is when morph with same name will block the correct morph in correct path from loading, I would suggest removing all non-custom morphs (particularly the HD morphs) from that 'Voluptuous Toned' folder.
Oooo, yeah, that is a no can do. This is what I tried above by deleting the WHOLE folder and what caused this mess in the first place. Most of my older figures will not work as they are calling for morphs that are in that folder. The thing is that (for some reason), the figures I created seemed to be saving the morphs and settings to THAT folder rather then where they should be. However, once I have moved that folder (which was in 2020), it seems the newer characters I created have stopped accessing that folder, but there are a great many older characters I still use and they want to see that folder. So, as of now, I have not found a way to delete the folder without damaging my characters. Granted, they are damaged anyway since there is a problem with the HD morphs., but I don't know how to fix the problem so that the characters access the morphs from the CORRECT folder and not the Voluptuous Toned one.
Then if Daz Studio sitll has a problem calling them, search your directory to check if they are already installed in your main Daz3d directory. If not, you can reinstall them using DIM or Daz Central to your main Daz3D content directory, or howsoever people install content these days.
I have tried this as well, by removing and reinstalling the Genesis 8 Female Head Morph package. It didn't work. And I know you are probably going to say delete both the package and the Voluptuous Toned folder at the same time and then reinstall the morph package. While that might work on initial thought, the problem is that the characters are going to look for the morphs where the Voluptuous Toned folder was and thus I will get an error and (of course) the morph will not load because it isn't there.
(Before removing the morphs from Voluptuous Toned folder, temporarily copy them somewhere else so can easily restore them back if causes more issues.)
This was effectively what I had done when I removed the folder in the first place. However, I didn't know what was happening when I initially deleted the folder. Luckily I had a back up of the folder elsewhere, albeit, it wasn't a current backup. Nevertheless I installed it anyway just to get my characters back. But because that was an 'old' backup, it was missing things and that was where my problems started. I have tried to fix many of the characters manually, but I can't get them 100%. Further, I am still stuck with this Voluptuous Toned folder.

DS doesn't save or care about the drive letter, the paths are relative, ie. the base folder is whatever folder you have specified as Content Library.
Yes, this I know about and is probably the culprit of most of the issues that I am having with Daz. If they went with a more 'normal' specified path with a drive letter, I don't think I would have been in this mess in the first place. That being said, the said "Voluptuous Toned" folder has grown large enough that I cannot put it back on the C: drive and, frankly, I don't want it there.
In a nutshell, I need to figure out what in Daz Studio (main program) is damaged that I cannot load many HD morphs. I know it is related to the Voluptuous Toned folder issue and that leads me to the next thing. I want to get rid of that folder without causing further damage to my characters.
I am worried that I might have to uninstall / reinstall Daz Studio. But if I go that far, I just need to know what I have to do to keep my data intact as I don't want to loose everything.
To my knowledge, this problem seems to be only affecting Genesis 8 Female figures, everything else is fine. Pretty much everything that didn't access that folder seems to be fine, with the exception of certain morphs. But I have noticed that some bought only characters, the morphs stopped working on as well, such as Alexandra 8. However, another HD figure I bought at around the same time as Alexandra was Sydney and her HD morphs are working fine. Keep in mind this is from load a fresh unaltered character.
Here is part of the log file from loading a fresh Alexandra 8 character and moving some of her HD morphs controls around. Note the references to the Voluptuous Toned folder.

Then if Daz Studio sitll has a problem calling them, search your directory to check if they are already installed in your main Daz3d directory. If not, you can reinstall them using DIM or Daz Central to your main Daz3D content directory, or howsoever people install content these days.
(Before removing the morphs from Voluptuous Toned folder, temporarily copy them somewhere else so can easily restore them back if causes more issues.)

Artist: DiomedeThe last one was extra tough, as I decided to use it to choose from the animations. I appreciate the time-consuming effort from all three animators. Diomede won out, even though his render was unfinished (no big surprise) and I voted for one of his single renders as well.
But honestly, is Ghalgot even a name? :)

Soooooo... my issue with this, is that, when I change to the correct folder, it's not updating. It reverts back to the default. How do you change to the correct directory WITHOUT it changing back?
Do you have more than one application open that can edit the path? If so, they may end up overwriting the new value as you close them - depending on ordering/timing.
Uhhh... not that I know of. What kind of apps would do that?
Well, Daz Studio, DIM and Daz Central all use the CMS
And neither DAZ studio OR Install manager will let me change the drive. They both revert back to the C drive when I try (neither are open at the same time and I don't have daz central installed yet)

Daz Central going Wacko!Well, I guess Daz resolved my issue with Daz Central. It now shows the correct product purchase dates. Keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work. :-)

That sounds like a content issue - something saved with a non-zero value. Load the base Genesis, not Male or Female, and then Edit?Figure>Zero>Zero Figure Shape, Edit>Figure>Memorise>Memorise Figure Shape, File>Save As>Support Assets>Save Modified Assets. If you make a note of the dialogue box it should list the problem files, though there will also (as I recall) be things that were meant to be non-zero - in which case it would be ebst to either uninstall the problem content, reporting it to the vendor/store, or try to fix the issue (for example, save a new character preset and use that to load the figure).
thanks for your help, it was Mr Hyde by Smay,
and there is no update available in Install Manager/Daz Central/Daz Studio (depending on how you installed)? I am surprised on such an old product.
Why Daz content creators don't make more of other ethnicity character?xyer0 said:
To the OP's question: There are many characters in this store that look Southeast Asian / Malaysian. Malays have interbred with so many different nations that their different types/appearances rival or surpass the varieties found among Black Americans. This week I was doing a fresh install of my Daz library, and I needed to save space (also cut G8F load time).
Wow! Sorry to hear that you have to reinstall your Daz asset library. I've done that a few times and know the hassle it can be. The upshot is that it does force one to ration disk space, asking prudently which asset is a must have and which can be left out for some other day.
I'm impressed with the roster of non-Caucasians you lined up here. Daz should reward your kindness with a nice coupon. Even I didn't realize there were so many. And like the OP, I was operating under the belief that there's a dearth of Asian figures in the asset store.
More to the larger theme this discussion has taken on, I believe it's safe to say that ethnicity is one of those things that falls under "whatever the eye of the beholder sees." A Filipino friend who's lived in the US southeast for decades often relates how locals never fail to assume he's African-American. Then there's another who's puzzled how anyone of brown skin and dark, silken hair living in the New England is quickly mistaken for a Central or South American.
No harm to it ... except that, speaking candidly, ethnic perceptions can come with loads of negative baggage, i.e. bigotry.
To set the record straight, that misunderstanding happens in other countries as well. Faced with ethnic strangers, people will likely start with their stock knowledge or their gut feel. I remember an elderly person who lived in Asia all her life and knew of Westerners -- caucasians to be exact -- only from what she's seen in film and TV. Upon arriving in the America, she marveled at the great variety of people here. ("Huh? And I all thought they looked like Hollywood movie stars!") And that's just caucasians she was remarking on.
It goes w/o saying, there's always room to grow one's perception, and few things are more edifying than spending time in a foreign land.
PS. nemesis10, I always appreciate the knowledge and the experience you share. Regarding the tragedies of history written in one's DNA, I'm reminded (once more) of Filipinos. Taking a humorous view of Western colonialization, a fair number of them boast of having one or two Catholic priests in their family tree!
That would partly account for their "distinct look" that NotAnArtist pointed out.Cheers!

there is a remote possiblility I hit it when I was trying to clear the que to stop some installs but that would also mean I had to have done it immediatily upon starting DIM because every single install that I did the past two days or so the zips are gone and basically since I haven't purchased anything much it the past couple of months all I have installed were new items that I just got and then I did a bunch of misc since I was installing.. genesis 9 basics hadn't even been installed.
---
It has happened before so I will continue to watch.
Does DIM stay open any more?
For me a couple years ago it started suddenly dropping it's connection with a message that the number of allowable connections had been exceeded and I figured that was because the server had reached it's limits of connectivity.
Dropping the connection wasn't a bother as much as the fact that when it did even to work offline you had to wait while it rebuild all its data.If you have other things connecting to your account (e.g. Daz Studio itself or even Daz Central, or any of the instalaltion options on another machine, might exceed the limit of allowable connections adn then the oldest will be dropped. At least refreshing is now a lot fatser.
Single connection with DIM, stays on for 24 hours max, like clockwork.
