I sure wish Nix had come out before Eva--not that I dislike her... if I had to choose it would be Nix.. dang.. so I won't be getting these until they somehow go on sale next year.. maybe for march madness if that  is possible.. I wonder if DAZ will have a new year's sale.. or will they start coming out with Genesis 9  sigh... sad

I don't think you need to worry. smiley

Beginning with the release of the original Genesis figures and Victoria 5, Daz has released a new generation female/Victoria every two years in June. If they keep to that schedule, Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 will be released in June 2019.

We are all going to pretend Gen9 will be in July 2019 (or later) for now, LOL! That has been when past couple of new versions come out. July of odd years.

You're real close, @JazzyBear. G3F/V7 was released June 23, 2015 and G8F/V8 was released June 15, 2017. (Dates provided by the official Read Me documentation.)

  • MACOSX upgrade rant… and place to archive my progress.

    Decemebr 2018,

I have abandoned all hope of having Bryce or anything like it ever again. In the meantime I have become more familiar and drawn into Daz Studio. I still find myself pulling up Poser 11 and loading Victoria 4.2 as Studio renders away.

  • Yesterday was Victoria 4's 12th Birthday...

I placed my first order on this site in April 2006. Victoria 4 hit not long after and was such a leap forward at the time. She is responsible for so many artists being active in 3D so Happy Birthday to the 'old girl' :)

  • Ah yes! I remember her well. . .

From the commentary of CC Lesue 2006

“Paparazzi caught CGI model Victoria Forth dismounting from the official DAZ Limo yesterday as she stepped out on the Red Carpet. Her place in making DAZ3d one of the greats in budget CGI productions is assured. Even though it has yet to land her in blockbuster roles she seems content that she has become the go-to gal for the “little peoples art”. Assured of her place in history as one of the genuinely great role playing models, her legendary chameleon-esque abilities make her hot property indeed. Few, if any of her predecessors, and none of her contemporaries are capable of projecting themselves with such depth, and in such a broad variety roles. There is a lot of truth in the title of “One Woman Show”.

  • Create a character the first time

I'm new to Daz Studio. I bought just Kennedy for Genesis 3 Female package. Everything is instlled. When I double click the Kennedy Actor I got genesis 3 base figure. I can apply other material but not body skin color. I heard that the viewport doesn't show the real color. I need to render to see the real color. I rendered using iRay engine. But the clolor is very different from the Kennedy figure. Seems like I'm missing something. I thought Kennedy may need Victoria 7. Then I bought Victoria 7. Still the same thing. Please help. Thanks.

"...recreating a scene just to do it with newere technology is like redoing a
painting or film and it never ever comes out the same.

Case in point, the image titled "Child of war" that I posted above.
This  was done on a 32 bit notebook in Daz 3.1.
     Because of extremely limited resources
I had to cut a lot of the set's surrounding
    elements out
(thanks to Stonemason making his sets so modular)
and go with only a couple lights to keep the render
process from crashing.  In spite of these
limitations, the end resuslts were rather surprising.
I like to consider this one of my best works in the ten + years
I have been at this. I could remake it again, with
Genesis G2 or G3 and render in Iray, but why? "
OK it would look more "photo real"
but would it necesarily be "better"?

No one here is advocating that people should use genesis 8 etc to
"redo" old V4 scenes in  the way Hollywood is rehashing Old Movies and TV shows,

Genesis and Daz studio, should inspire new scenes with better content with
better joint deformations with better fit control utilities etc etc.

I have alot old Poser animations I created with posers painfully archaic
    animation tools in the past.

All of my newer animations with Iclone pro and even Daz studio aniMate are better
because I am using better tools and  also have become a better
    Character animator...period.

For me to proudly boast that an animation I did TEN years ago with E-frontier Poser 6
was my "best work" would only be proof that I have long since
stagnated and not bothered to improve my craft.

Not that my old, beloved Poser 6 was somehow "still just as good"as DS aniMate/graphmate
    or Iclone Pro pipeline...tools matter.

As technology moves forward our creative options generally expand.

Despite the obvious Nostalgic sentimentality ,expressed
    by many in this thread,
Daz victoria 4 is Not a person but
essentially a peice of software and IMHO no more deserving of
any emotional loyalty than any of the old 32 bit windows XP /Mac OS 9 software that we
all dispassionately discarded over the years in favor of the improved versions.

When last  I looked, there were no trophies being awarded for  toiling away masochisticly
    with older more difficult tools
when objectively  easier &better tools  are available and
    reasonably affordable.

I understand why poser users are so fiercely loyal to V4.
The Ash bin of poser history is replete with Third party poser, native females
that ,for a variety of reasons, failed to supplant V4 in terms of content support
    or even figure versatility.

However IMHO , to try and make a serious argument that V4 today is somehow a
viable or logical alternative to using any Daz genesis figure(G1,2,3,8) in Daz studio,
    is utter folly.

...yes, for animation you are correct.  However, for still scenes (such as I create) the latest and greatest isn't as critical unless I am going for as much realism as possible.  Who was it here in these forums who said it's not the tools but how they are used is what matters? I've seen some pretty good stuff done in the past with pre Genesis characters and older content that really wouldn't have benefited much more from using the latest models and tools we have available (and I'm not talking remaking an old scene either).

Crikey I still use Aiko3 for certain illustrations because her appearance just fits the scene and style better than any of her Genesis iterations (and there is a lot of clothing, morph, and hair content available for her, probably only second in quantity to V4 when you also look outside the Daz store).

  • Content won't install (IM, Connect Offline, manual download tried)

    Probably way TMI, but:

The problem with previous gernations was that they rapidly ran out of free slots, and that different sets used the same slot which limited mix-and-matching. Several big morph expansions for Victoria 3 and Michael 3 each came with their own figure file (CR2) which supported the base morphs plus that expansion set, but of course that made it very difficult to mix morphs from two different sets.

The solution found for Victoria 4 and Michael 4 was ExP - essentially, when you loaded a figure (from the base file) it read in a series of pose files which themselves contained a list of pose files for each morph expansion, and those files in turn created the channels, grouped them, and set up the links. The CreateExPFiles utility read through the folders with all the pose files for the different morph sets installed and built the index files read in by the base figure (which is why all the expansions have to be in the same content directory).

PowerLoader does much the same, but it does it live (allowing switchign morph sets in and out), it can give a more desciptive name and icon than the bare product code, and doesn't require a separate step to actually inject the morphs into the figure. it's also possible to rerun the tool to add new morph sets to a loaded figure, unlike the plain version which has no way of updating a figure that has been loaded.

  • Content won't install (IM, Connect Offline, manual download tried)

Yes, there can be only one Connect directory - but if you set a previous connect diectory as a regular Daz studio content diectory the content will still load. The Connect diectory is the oen isntalled to, and that does need to be unique at any given time.

The fourth generation daz figuers, and others using the ExP system, cannot at this tiem be isntalled via Connect. You need to isntall the base figure (Victoria 4 or Michael 4 as the case may be) and all ExP add-ons (such as Aiko 4 or the Victoria 4 head and body moprhs) to the same content directory, and if you don't use the PowerLoader script (which gives a dialogue on loading) you need to run the /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/CreateExPFiles-v4 file for your system to add the new morphs. Clothing, hair and so on isn't subject to this requirement (unless it includes a morph for the base figure too).

    Victoria who?..........devil

I haven't loaded V4 in years and the other day I loaded up an old project file with V4 in it. Man, she is really showing her age compared to newer figures IMO.

, but I can't imagine I'll ever have a use for her again.

    Agreed !
Useful when her figure tech was  the cutting edge in this consumer space

But truly a vestigal relic of a (thankfully) bygone era compared to what we have at our disposal today.

  • Question re Frivolous Forties & Required Products Generally

Re links to products I don't see how links would clarify anything beyond what's already been written re either Frivolous Forties or South Beach Deco, but here's the Frivolous Forties link:
    https://www.daz3d.com/frivolous-forties

Is Victoria 6 definitely a Required Product for this in order for it to work properly on the G2F? I only want to use it on the G2F even if I had V6 which I don't. So I want to know if I have to buy V6 as well.

Re the South Beach Deco products, the main sets appear as Preloads while the individual props appear as Materials, so re the sets one doesn't need to load the Classic Deco first (as one does with the props), thus my question, which you've answered. Thanks. It's the difference between textures and a materials.

  • Question re Frivolous Forties & Required Products Generally

A lot of products on their product/sales page don't state that Required Products are needed first, that's only revealed on the next pop-up page when you add the product to the cart. That's just an annoyance, but I've also found that a some sets/environments state a Required Product is needed so one naturally purchases the RP even when it's not actually wanted for use, expecting that the actual product one wants is materials for the RP, but then on installation finds that it's a stand-alone anyway. An example is the South Beach Deco products. I've never tried uninstalling the Required Product to see if these assumed add-ons which aren't materials work without the original, so my first question is: is it the case that non-material add-ons do work without the original RP?
MY second question is re the Frivolous Forties outfit for the G2F. It states that the compatible figure is the G2F - nothing else - but it also gives Victoria 6 as a Required Product. So is V6 essential to make the outfit work on the G2F or not?

  • Yesterday was Victoria 4's 12th Birthday...

Time Flies.  She's still pretty useful...

December 14, 2006 03:55 PM Eastern Standard Time

DRAPER, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DAZ 3D, Inc., a leading developer of professional quality 3D models and software, today announced the immediate availability of Victoria 4.0, the latest version of the most widely supported 3D figure commercially available. This new release of Victoria, based on live human models, is closing the gap between real life and models typically seen in 3D environments like Second Life, The Sims, and Halo.

Since her first release in 1999, hundreds of thousands of unique users worldwide have downloaded a copy of Victoria making her the most heavily downloaded 3D figure ever. Victoria has been widely used by digital artists worldwide and has graced the covers of magazines, newspapers, and television across the globe.

“The expressions and various details that characterize her (like the fact that the eyelids move together with the eyes) make her very complete. She is certainly the best model we have worked with so far,” said Siliphiel of Aery Soul Studios.

Principal new features in Victoria 4.0 include a realistic, versatile mesh geometry that delivers natural, true-to-life body shape and proportions; superior joints and anatomical accuracy that provide the ability to pose Victoria in ways not previously possible and still enjoy consistently realistic body contours and joints; and unparalleled skin map layout resulting in an amazing level of detail and realism....

  • Converting Genesis (G1, G2, G3, G8) backwards to Version 4 (M4, V4, D4)?

I realize that this is unlikely, but I am interested in converting conforming clothing for the new figures backwards to use with the older Micael 4 / Victoria 4, David 4 figures.
(Why? Because I primarily use Poser and it takes too much effort to work with the Genesis figures in Poser).

If you are only interested in  the new clothing and not the character/figure morphs
why not export the clothing meshes as .obj file from Daz studio
and using the Poser "fitting room"??

There is a Poser Die hard ,on the SM forums, ( SGBryan ??)
who claims he can convert any Geness clothing item to any
of the Old Legacy poser figures in "less the sixty seconds"
    in the  Poser fitting room.

That is a very interesting point. I seldom really mess with the "Fitting Room" because it is a bit fiddly to work with. I definitely need to look at that again and see what I can do with it.

Thanks for giving me something to think about AND someone to look for in the old SM forums.
