Announcement about phasing out 3Delight - do we lose our 3Delight products?
I wonder if we're gonna see an uptick in new Filament products. There's definitely gonna be a market for them, because Iray is not going to suit everyone's tastes.

I take it this will also mean DS 2 and 3 will no longer be available.
Been using DS since 1.3, sad to say but 4.24.0.3 will be my last version of Studio, no use for Filament, and Iray is crap imho, can't even handle an Alpha channel without having to jump through hoops.
DS versions 1, 2 and 3 (final release versions) are still showing in my product library - I suspect that they will go away before the end of the month as they are all 3DL.
I have copies of all downloaded quite a while ago but never used; TBH I wouldn't be surprized to find the installers won't work on current systems.
I doubt you will be unable to download previous purchases due to DAZ no longer having the licence. I believe it means they can not distribute it to new users, but can still give old copies to existing customers. As such I expect 1-3 to remain available to download for all of us that own them.
No, they cannot distribute it to anyone as I understand it - hence everyone losing 3delight in DS 4.

First part in the product description "The RSSY 3DL and Iray to Filament script"
So you it is a script, but I can't see it can be done in another way.
Why do you have troubles running scripts, do you get an error or what?
No, I have not purchased this script yet.
But intend to.
However I read somewhere the new DAZ Studio ver 6.xxx is still being developed and I read somewhere certain scripts may not work.
BUT I maybe wrong, hence the question.
Sorry about the confusion

Thanks Richard, once again I am in your debt for assisting a silly old senior likeme.
Just one question if you do not mind, is this one of those scripts which may have issues running with the new Daz Studio?
Again Thanks kindly...

Interesting. Thank you! So it needs its on textures? Iray textures won't work?
Not different textures, but the surface properties need tweaking as it's a different shader. Some stuff looks okay off the bat, other stuff looks too bright.
This can help: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-3delight-and-iray-to-filament
Sorry but your link does not work for me. Is it a typo?
Cheers
Yeah - but one added by the forum. I'm unsure why but sometimes a space or whatever after a link adds a %C2%A0 to the end of a link, making it unusable:

^That one should work (or the one Richard posted above which definitely works)
For future reference (if another link from the forum doesn't work) - look for that code at the end of the link, delete it, and the link should work.

https://www.daz3d.com/easy-filatoon is another good set of scripts if you like doing toon/anime style art.
Thanks for sharing this link. I really liked the example renders, But I would prefer to be able to tone done the Anime look a bit to be more like Marvel or DC comics. Can it?
Cheers

you can have both, I have 4.11 in a separate folder
just don't run them concurrently
i also kept 4.11 for some products that don't work any more later. but i don't have 2 computers, not even 2 hard disks (physical or partitions) - and a limited amount of barely 1TB that is already almost full. and since i couldn't get a beta version of 4.11 and then update with regular 4.12+ versions, i had to keep my 4.11 full version and update 4.12+ with beta versions. my laptop being an old piece of crap, with every new update i was scared it would crash my laptop, but nonetheless i risked a few updates, and now i have 4.22 beta, because i didn't use DS much lately so i didn't update to 4.24 beta.
point being, since i can't do dforce nor hair (different alternatives all lag/crash/barely work), have no interest in filament etc, all i need is to be able to make G9 work. 4.22 beta works fine. i don't think i need to update to the 4.24 29th dec version nor ALPHA, why should i... one big update could bring a version that definitely rubs my laptop he wrong way and nothing works any more.
at least not as long as i don't buy a new laptop, and this won't happen any time soon. i can consider myself really lucky this fossil from 2012 my family gifted me 2nd hand in 2016 is actually still working! can barely afford to live, don't have a few hundreds for a laptop, even 2nd hand.
so i guess i can spare myself the whole backing up circus (i'm not even sure where i have room to back up anything really, apart from a usb stick or something...), and just keep using my 4.22 beta, and my 4.11 full version? is there any reason why i should maybe update to 4.24 beta if it's listed in DIM? (with the risk of it crashing my comp?)
ETA: i also have a bunch of product updates i haven't installed because i'm always worried they might cause some chaos, not work, take too much unavailable HD space etc - but is there a risk in the future that product updates REALLY won't work with 4.22 beta (or 4.24 beta), apart maybe from scripts/script based products?

Uninstalling and reinstalling is very rarely a fix for anything - settings and user data should, at least by default, be left alone.
You are using a Drawstyle (unles the Viewport is closed) - the question is which one. Look at top-right of the Viewport, to the left of the long button listing the current view/camera is a little button, showing a sphere (for the OpenGL modes), a bulb filament (for Filament), or a I in a box (for Iray); click that to see which Drawstyle is being used currently. Also check the Aux Viewport, if that is open.
Oh! I saw that indeed Viewport was set to Lray. The moment I switched to wire bounding box, CPU usage dropped to 1%. When I switch back to LRay it goes to 100% again. I see. Guess I need new version of Daz to make it work with 5090, oh well.
Also to be fair when I uninstall something I at least expect it to clean up the settings and stuff instead of leaving dangling files. But whatever.
FilamentThe main flaw people run into with Filament is transparency maps. They're binary. Either on or off. No in between. Also, they don't stack well. Hair that has multiple transmaps look just horrid.

DAZ Studio and Apple M4 computers? There is the Mac FAQ if you want to read about users using Mac with Daz:

- What is the earliest version of Studio that will run on it?
- How wel does it run?
- WHat are the issues, so far as you know?
1. I started with Daz 4.21 on my Macbook Pro M1, so it should work on an M4 chip too but I can't comment on older versions.
A warning: if you want to use Filament, you'll have to use Daz Studio 2025, Daz Studio 4 can't use it for some technical reasons I don't remember.
2. Overall performances should be better than on your Intel iMac and the biggest downside is scripts crashing Daz Studio
3. I think it's related to Rosetta (the software used by Apple to allow Intel only softwares to run on M1/2/3/4 chips but if you want to know more, @Totte is your best source of informations) so with some scripts, what you'll have to do is trying to launch one of them until it doesn't lead Daz Studio to crash immediatly. Then, once you have Daz Studio running in its non-crashy state, every script should run fine as long as you don't close Daz Studio. Once closed, rinse and repeat the next time you want to use it, until you are back to having Daz Studio not crashing immediatly on scripts launch.
The other issue to know about is plugins: some are made for Windows only (including some of the Premier plugins) so if you need one of them, you're out of luck with a Mac.

I realize that Iray is almost certainly going to still be a problem, What are the workarounds? I know that the few times I've had to render in Iray on my intel iMac, the images were almost unusably noisy and there was no way to turn off progressive rendering (which i hate).
If that Mac Studio will be you're only computer, the workaround is time, lots of time: someone invented the night, which is perfect to do long renders.
If after testing your M4 Mac you still find it too slow for your state, you can either build a computer around an NVIDA GPU and install Iray Server on it, or rent someone else computers to do renders for you.
I never used any of the following services, but it's the ones I heard about:
