Freebie Challenge September 2023 - Gardening - Main Thread
Hello everyone!
I just stumbled upon this challenge and although i am pretty late to the show, i thought i might give it a try.I am usually not the render guy. I mainly use DAZ to (try) create my own printable models. Make them printable in Blender, that is...
My renders so far have only been quick and dirty ones. Just to put a picture of the base concept into each folder.
But you know... never hurts to try improving another skillset on the way.
-------------------------
For this, i challenged myself to only use the free DAZ assets from the current and last month. And all-time DAZ freebies. However, as i was unsure about what morphs would be eligible to use, i decided to use a free figure shape from another place.
In hindsight, i could probably just have used the base G9 female.
And i am not finished yet. But i thought better have my items and pic checked early. Not to waste time to find out last minute that my entry does not qualify.
Anyways, here are the things i used (so far):DAZ Freebies
an attached flower from the Flora Sprite Dress (https://www.daz3d.com/flora-sprite-for-genesis-2-female-s)
earfins from the dragonling as leafs (https://www.daz3d.com/millennium-dragon-2-dragonling)
3D bubbles (https://www.daz3d.com/3d-bubbles)
Pose (slightly modified left arm/hand) (https://www.daz3d.com/daily-ease-poses-lite)
Outfit (https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-dancing-queen-outfit-for-genesis-9)
Hair (https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-mk-hime-cut-hair-for-genesis-9-lite)
(https://www.daz3d.com/street-vignettes--calle-pintada) - not sure about this one. i know i assigned one of the render options of this asset. but i do not know if a later used package overwrote the settings.
Sky+Dome+Floor (https://www.daz3d.com/skies-of-economy-redux--volume-1-lite)
DAZ Studio Regulars
G9 female
Daz Studio primitives
DAZ Studio other
Essential Iray Shaders (https://www.daz3d.com/essential-iray-shaders) i thought it was a regular freebie that DAZ Studio provides. Turned out to be part of the anniversary megapack `22, that i got when i joined DAZ last year. While I did not pay anything for this one, i would assume it falls either under paid or neutral.
Otherplace freebie
Vickie 9 Character Morph for Genesis 9 (https://www.renderhub.com/marissko/vickie-9-for-genesis-9)
i hope this information is sufficient. i might add more to the list later. Depends on time and afterthoughts
Let me know if this isnt good enoughfor a "gardening" theme... She raises flowers though ;)EDIT:
paid asset: Vintage light overlay for photoshop - it was within a huge graphics package in some humblebundle package. One of thousands of files. Nothing but a shortcut for things one could do without using a paid image. and i might even decide to remove it or use another one in the final version. but i thought i better mention it. No link though.. Sitting in my library for years.
EDIT 2: after playing around a bit in photoshop, i am realy tempted to let it go. I am sure, there is a lot of room for improvement, but i kinda like it already.
EDIT 3: just a tad more... maybe need to get rid of some of the lower edges. i might sleep over it
________________________________________________________for the test version 2 i rendered a second pic without the bubbles and primitives. and i removed the background flowers. then melted the pics with 2 masking layers and the vintage overlay. Just to get an impression how it would work out at current stage. (needs to be balance though. main reason to do this: i want a bit more of her reflection and her slightly more outstanding - but its already too much atm)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...and her heart and soul were pure.So pure, that anywhere she would walk, flowers would blossom.
As if nature stood up, to bid her welcome..
Transformation from Genesis node to Hip bone - how?Hi Everybody,
I have animation where the Translation and Rotation is done for Genesis node but the Hip bone has all set to zero in all frames. Is there any trick how to transfer setting to Hip bone for all frames?
I have some idea how to transfer Translation from Genesis node to Hip bone using mcjJump. But I could not copy the Rotations from Genesis node to Hip bone. Do you have any idea how to copy Rotations from Genesis node to Hip bone for all frames? Copy and Paste does not work in Timeline. It paste back to Genesis node.
Thanks a lot.
Light absThe existing ab morphs that I've used so far push the rectus abs out and create some outer detail seperating them from the obliques. I'm looking for the kind of light abs that can sometimes peek through when a person who normally has a flat abdomen laughs or shouts. Those abs are usually just in the center and laughing doesn't reveal the obliques. It seems like this effect could be achieved if there was a morph for the rectus abs that indents the abdomen rather than pushes the abs out. Does such a product exist?

Select the cloth.
Look at the parameter pane > Currently used.
The culprit is probably one of the dials.
Also make the hidden dials appear. No, there is nothing. Only my character name is listed in the cloth parameter tab as projected.
Something's wrong. This issues started as I tried to scale down my character's breast size.Projected morphs are hidden, you would need to enable Show Hidden Properties to see them (option menu>Preferences) but dialling it down would simply stop it following the morph shape at all.
I ask for more historical accuracy of vintage clothing@Richard Haseltine - you are correct but the ready-to-wear clothing in stores was soooo much better than the hobo-style clothing you find in stores today. Here is an every day photo from 1950s New York:
@sazzyazzca - Yes, such historically inaccurate clothing should indeed be sold as "inspired by". That would be the right thing to do.
In the olden days tailors were much more available and cheaper than today, so many more people would have tailored clothing.
Even in my family, my grandmother's sister was a very talented seamstress who made everything - from ball gowns to suits. Making a proper suit (be it for men or for women) was very difficult, because so many elements went into making it including the stiff interlining that gave the garment structure. It was a whole science to learn how to make "heavy" tailoring (suits, coats) and there were tailors who specialized in just that.
In those times dressing up was encouraged unlike today and people on the street looked much more like the people in the fashion magazines.
My grandmother and mother had almost everything made to measure. They had at least two tailors - a very good male tailor who made for them suits and coats (he lived upstairs from them - wasn't that convenient!) and a lady seamstress who made them dresses. My grandmother was a junior school teacher who took extra work hours to support herself and her family, as my grandfather was killed during WWII.
Later my mom, when she moved abroad, got married and was really poor, learned to sew herself. She bought sewing and knitting patterns. She knit like a machine and her clothes were truly beautiful. I wore dresses and suits made by her well into my university years.
Even recently I had a summer/spring dress made by a regular seamstress from a Dolce and Gabbana silk fabric. I have boucle chanelesque suits made by another seamstress and trust me - I'm no millionaire. It is all about the culture we live in that does not support dressing with chic.
@felis - thank you for making this suit. I think there should be some way to simulate the stiffer areas of the jacket and a corset-waist morph should be introduced for 3d garments too.
Anyway, I ask that DAZ pay more attention that vintage clothing is represented properly and garments that are clearly not "vintage" or "historical" not be sold as such.
cleavage problemVery cool. I never got to grops with deformers for some reason. Mesh Grabber, however, was a total game-changer for me. Fast and easy and I can 'Save' the work I do as a morph, which can be a temporary morph if I don't save it to the clothing. This way I can dial it throughout the animation. Awesome!
cleavage problemIt is a quite normal problem on characters with smaller breast, or you are dialing the breast down, if there isn't a dedicated morph for that character/breast morph in the clothing.
Severals way to fix it. One method I sometimes use, if the clothing is dForce capable is to start the simulation with norrmal sized brests and then dial them down during simulation.
cleavage problemHave you tried opening up the dev version of the affected figure and resetting it? If there is a BreastHelper/FitControl morph with a non-zero default then I don't think it shows up as currently used but is still technically being used.

I also use breast reduction and get similar issues, but not quite as bad.
I use Fit Control on the clothing to fix it. If you're using Genesis 9 (I don't think there's a Fit Control for that yet) maybe Mesh Grabber?
Well yeah, I can fix it on the clothing, but it is just bothering me, that there is a "bug?", where I just don't know where it is coming from.
I made myself a deformer set, that adresses this issue, so I don't need to sculpt a new morph on each and every piece of clothing.Need help with creating a hair morph for xyz Natural Curly Hair.crosswind said:
Unfortunalte there's only one visible shaping morph on the hair but not relevant and no custom bone either.... For such a strand-based hair, you either use timelime to make the hair move from back to front (fit it to none first), and / or use dFormer to move the front hair to back or refine the shape...
Because only PA has the full set of the tools to make morphs on strand-based hair... though there's a promo pic, there's no such a morph, it's not good...
Yeah, that promo pic with the hair back is a tease.
I really tried getting the dformers to work and I guess I'm not skilled enough to get it to do what I want, lot's of frustration just made me give that up after a few hours. I went a different route with no dformers just simulating and it came out decently. I took a base G9 figure, turned off collision and only enabled it on the NCH scalp, then set a keyframe at frame 1, put a keyframe at frame 50 and had the figure move forward quite a bit between keyframes. Stiffness was adjusted on the hair and off to simuating it went! I found a frame that had the hair back enough and not intersecting the face, exported that as a morph object and now I can load that morph in anytime I want at any intensity. Maybe that's a really odd way of getting to what I want but it's working for now.
cleavage problemWhen an unsupported morph is projected into a fitted item DS goes by proximity - the fitted item, barring things like rigidity maps, tries to maintain its relationship with the nearby vertices of the base shape. I would imagine that the morph you are using is leaving the sternum alone, but then pulling some of the edges of the breast in before pushing the fuller areas out, ior aside, and the clothing relfects that. You may be able to use a Smoothing Modifier, probably set to Generic rather than original shape matching, or a dform or push modifier with a weight map to fix it.
cleavage problemThat seems a projection morph... did you dial any projection morph on the figure, like Breasts Helper, Fit Control or something ?
I ask for more historical accuracy of vintage clothingI tried to model something similar, although simplified.
I had trouble getting dForce to keep the jacket kind of stiff.
But anyway, there is lacking a corset morph in order to get the shape from the first picture.
Transform a non Dforce object to a Dforce object possible or not ?Note that we can create dForce cloth but not dForce hair, so you will be working on the full polygon count of the hair - much more demanding for simulation than dForce hair, which needs to simulate only the guide hairs. You would probably want to bake the result to a morph, especially if using a Play range simulation (which saves the location of each vertex at each frame - the file would be huge as a result, though the render engine receives only the final shape so it wouldn't hurt GPU use in Iray)
Request for custom 3D modelDid you try to use Face Transfer in DazStudio?
diffeomorphic 1.7.1 rig issuesHi guys,
I am new to this and i'm having a problem with importing a daz character to blender.I have a few issues,
the most important one is converting the rig to rigify will cause parts of it to not work properly, the mouth seems to be split in two with one part going with the face and the other just staying, hair will also have the same issue.another problem is that the eyes dont see to conform to the armature correctly and when i move the body they move but seem to be slightly offest
a third problem is importing some morph(I think in the body) will cause importing poses to come out incorrect.
I attached images so you can see the problem
Transform a non Dforce object to a Dforce object possible or not ?General: Yes, you can use : Edit > Object > Geometry > Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface
Sometimes it works great, but with complicated objects which are composed of several meshes (and your hair looks like that could be the case) you get an explosion.
I myself prefer in those cases : Send Object to Hexangon, tweak it in the desired way (caution: do not change the node count of the mesh, don't cut etc. only deform) and send it back to DS where you can create a morphIt's tough to justify making purchasesRon Knights said:
I hadn't bought much at DAZ for a few years. I got mildly excited by the arrival of Genesis 9. I rejoined the PC Club. I cancelled the subscription soon after.
One thing about DAZ's products turns me off. Too many products use "vanity names" for their content. If I buy a "pirate" shirt, I want to find it listed as a "pirate" shirt. I don't want to guess what PA made the product, and look under a PA's folder. And now it appears there is a shortage of male clothing.
Re: vanity and 'generic' names like "Pirate" shirt- the trouble is when files are all named the same for different products- for example if two PAs make a pirate shirt and both are are in the same runtime and Category and location, and if they just name it Pirate shirt, it'll conflict with the other. If two characters for the same figure have the same name, it might overwrite, or call on the wrong fix morphs/jcms and cause other issues. I've had to go back and rename a character because it was the exact same name, spelling, and morphs as another PA's and they'd have conflicted with each other, so things are required to have the vendor's initials in front and separate the folder locations to limit that kind of issue. I thought it was kind of hilarious at the time because I'd looked very carefully for a name that wasn't already used in Daz and another primary market, and yet STILL managed to submit at the same time as another PA who had a character of the same exact name. Glad I caught it in time though, because when that happens people always get upset and blame the PA "why is this morph messing up???? This PA does garbage work!" or Daz "why didn't Daz catch this?" and then we all hustle to fix stuff but the thread is still there complaining about a bad character morph when its really a conflict of two instead. So there's reason for the "vanity" and it's to help keep every data name unique and working without problems. :) That said, isn't smart content supposed to help you find things by category? I don't use it myself ... I'm too set in my ways and install everything manually. ;)
and there's a lot of clothes for G9 if you like lingerie times 1000 :PI joke but I do get the general frustration with not being able to buy a lot. All I can say is, there's a lot of sales at daz and a lot of very very high discounts. The odds are in your favor.
Who is this character, then?I could be wrong - but that looks like it could be a dial in or custom character from a PA that is no longer on Daz or Renderosity (RareStone) looks like a morph between Fredda, Alisa, and Kayla in the other promos (https://posercontent.com/vendors/rarestone/1878)
