  • Geoshell-based wet skin effects on characters with geografted anatomical elements?

Has anyone worked out how to get geoshell-based wet skin effects to work on characters which have aftermarket geografted gens? I have tried with a number of different wet skin products, but it seems that none of them accommodate the geografts. I have even tried applying a separate shell to both the character and the geograft, to no avail. Any ideas would be welcome.

There's a thread on the R'otica forum (3feetwolf Product Support) about this problem and the solution. This was 3feetwolf's reply which is described using his product but I think could be a clue for others:

I have been using the following steps to resolve the compatibility issue between NGV8 and Wet Body, please try them to see if they work for you. I will write a script when I have time.
    1. Apply NGV8 to your character, for example, V7.
    2. Apply Wet Body to your character.
    3. Select Wet Body geometry shell node in the Scene pane, then go to the Surfaces pane and change the Shaders of 'new_gens_V8_1840_Anus' and 'new_gens_V8_1840_Genitalia' to 'Iray Uber'. Select 'Torso' surface and copy its material settings and then paste to 'new_gens_V8_1840_Anus' and 'new_gens_V8_1840_Genitalia'.
    4. Select 'new_gens_V8_1840_Anus' and 'new_gens_V8_1840_Genitalia' again, then change their UVs back to Victoria 7. Done.

He did write a script which is linked in the forum thread (look back through the forum to about a year ago).

  • 3Delight Laboratory Thread: tips, questions, experiments

I only made one half hearted attempt to see how low you can go with the quality settings with scripted pathtracing/aweSurface. Granted, you can speed up things a fair bit without losing to much in terms of quality.

For video, you could probably up the gaussian filter width which should let you get away with fewer samples...

So I dug out a coupla actual comparisons (not AWE, just my stuff):

    https://www.deviantart.com/mustakettu85/art/Subsequent-are-the-revisions-c-660435897 - 52 minutes

https://www.deviantart.com/mustakettu85/art/Victoria-Aeterna-646377536 - 98 minutes (note the mirror wall; the sun is a distant light as well, so suboptimal; and the noise is not that bad, that's film grain added in post; I could upload a "raw" version if anyone doubts)

Oh, and these two were originally rendered to EXR in full 32 bit.

    And then this - https://www.deviantart.com/mustakettu85/art/Return-of-the-Champions-260822692 - REYES + AO, 36 minutes.

Yup, so I had a look and get your point:) But the thing with REYES is it can be dumbed down infinitely much and still look clean and (if you do it right) kind of cool. Well that's of course a matter of personal taste. And you can postwork the hell out of it, worst scenario=)) Kettu you had a bunch of really nice renders over there! Also loved the npr ones! Hither shore is just beautiful, and her expression really has some depth.

Aargh, for some reason can't view them on the laptopangry. Figure it could use a number of upgrades:( Nice thumbnails though=)) Will have to wait till I get to my main rig.

  • Motorcycle Helmets for G8

One thing that I've been disapointed with since the days of Victoria 3 is the quality of motorcycle helmets for DAZ figures. I'd love to see a collection of high quality helmets in various styles (full face, open face, skull cap, etc...) The ones I've found either have horrid geometry, or just look terible. The last set I liked was for Michael 4, but I'd like something newer with IRay materials. Posable visors would be nice, too.

    Ha!

Thought you meant https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-adaline-hd-for-victoria-7. I'd forgotten who made the character, and obviously the spelling too.

    One of my favourite characters.

Can someone do renders of Adeline with various faical expressions? In the promo images there are no facial expressions and I want to see how her face deforms. Can you also give her different hair styles when making the renders? Thanks.

  • More Non-photorealisitic Renders (NPR II)

Today I decided to spend a little time playing around with the new La Femme figure to see if she could be fitted into my current workflow. I still need to run some more tests to see how well she adapts to Victoria 4 poses. To be honest, I should have worked on her expression a little more, but overall I like some of the new features the figure has to offer. The fabric draping was simulated in the Cloth Room.

As usual, this was created with Poser Pro 11 and Clip Studio Paint.

The shading on this is just amazing, The blues are a great choice but I would add a little of that blue beneath her and just under her hands. I've had a go with the new figure and it will take a little getting used but there's some serious potential there - especially with Black Hearted's morph pack - I would have purchased that with the figure just for the legs. If I need to render something with a focus on legs, this is a go to option.

You are absolutely right. I should have taken the extra time to finish the image before posting. To that end, I decided to go back and try adjusting the expression and then I added some blue beneath her to give it the depth and sense of completion that it needs. I was just tired and since I was really focusing on the folds of the fabric I just wanted to walk away from it. Here's my updated image. Any thoughts?

I have not looked at that morph pack you mentioned, but I will now.

I am going to start a new project soon and I'm toying with the idea of using La Femme as the figure for the lead female character. But, before I can do that I have to be certain that she can use V4 poses and expressions. So far when I've tried to use poses strange things happen to the hands. Likewise, expressions have not been really successful. But I haven't done enough testing yet to make a determination. (BTW: The project is the one that the M4 "Arton" character appears in.) We'll see how it goes after I make a few more La Femme images and have time to determine her compatability with the poses/expressions/props in my content library and if she is as easy to work with as V4.

    That's the ticket I think.

I have to say, she's a very different animal from V4 - and as for expressions, I would recommend doing those yourself. It's been designed with a view to making expressions easy... but easy with practice. The best way to get an expression on her is not to spin the dials but to work directly on the face.

The cloth draping looks amazing. It has a classic comic book look to it. I like the overall setup for the image and although I agree with you about the expression, it doesn't really detract from the piece. It's more of a test at this stage anyway, and I would say this fits in nicely with your style and the other images you have created. The only thing I could mention is perhaps make the right hand flat to match the left hand.

  • Genesis 8 Wet Body Iray strange result when not in the center

I have bought Genesis 8 Wet Body Iray, and have some provblems with it. After a lot of experimenting, it seems like the issue is where the figure is placed. I have saved the figures (who are both Victoria 8) as a scene preset and merged them into a new scene without environment.

It seems that when I render the scene, they turn out ugly. The figure on the right has a "DPS face sweat" preset. The figure on the left has individual drops added. Look at the first picture.

In the second picture, all I have done, is to move both of the figures to the center of the world. And now it looks fine. Or at least acceptable.

Can anyone explain this. I am new to Daz and 3D, so I may miss something obvious.

    Thank you for your help.

  • I use to shop here.
The real crisis for many will be when a newer and better render engine comes out that requires all new materials.  I can only hope there will be some great conversion tools when that happens.  Because, I have a huge library of clothing models and Iray shaders.  The expense to redo all of those would be immense.

A new render engine is a total nightmare for vendors too. Iray did some Vendors in, It almost did me in too, lol.

But It has to be done sometimes in the name of progress....

Like any market, If this one stands still for too long - it stagnates and then collapes.

Its noticable for Daz figure generations which have about a 3 year life cycle, and often by year 3 you can start to feel the burn out.

Like Kyoto on G3, I'm not feeling burnt out on G8. I like to see the new ideas that keep appearing.

When G9 appears, I'll buy the first pro bundle, before I've decided to move on. Doesn't matter to me if it's Victoria or Gia. Gia 8 I don't own and have never bought any of them. To my mind, Victoria sells well because she's first, not because she's iconic.

  • Looking for blood/gory effects and props

smay has some zombie gore for genesis. with modelled splatters https://www.daz3d.com/add-on-for-zombie

Thanks for the effort, but that is not what I'm looking for :(

See attachment for what i had in mind...

Looks juicy=)) I can totally see someone like RawArt make Fried Chicken for Teen Jane 8cool

Well, find a good skin to start with, bring it into your image editor, start making diffuse overlays, specular maps, roughness maps, bump maps, displacement maps, normal maps, subsurface maps, may have forgotten somethingwink

Hahah, yeah... Unfortunately I don't have the skills to do it :) I tried some texture "baking" in GIMP, with horrible effects. While the diffuse map is somewhat doable, I have no idea about how to make bump, displacement, specular and the rest of them...

You didn't mention which basecharacter this is for, or if you still render i 3DL. I'd start by going through all the demonic stuff in the store to find a suitable skin, something that could easily be modified.

Just checked RawArt's products, found a couple of skins I could use myself:)

    https://www.daz3d.com/handsome-harvey-mutant-for-genesis-3-male

    https://www.daz3d.com/krampus-demon-for-genesis-3-male

    https://www.daz3d.com/dead-fred-for-genesis-3-male

These could be made highly glossy/reflective. Diffusecolor /SSS color could be tinted/overdone=)  Additionally a geoshell could be used to add a matte layer if needed. I'm sure there are a lot more products you could use:)

I obviously switched to Iray since now I own the GTX1080ti card :) Dead fred actually looks good as a base, I would have to try it on Gen8 Female body though. I'm using different actors, but Vicky 8 primarily.

Quite interesting, I found an amazing texture on pbrtexture.com [ link ]

    It comes with several maps:

    Diffuse 4096x4096

    Metalness 4096x4096

    Roughness 4096x4096

    AO 4096x4096

    Normal 4096x4096

    Displacement 4096x4096

I'm going to experiment with it, but i still need to find a way to seamlessly blend, for example Victoria's diffuse map with this texture, so her body details on the texture (like shading under the breast etc) is not lost...

  • DAZ 3D Human Figures - A History
Dear Daz family, I'm new to the daz 3D community and I got several Pro packs when they were on special which includes animals/actors/anthropomorphic creatures like the lizard man, centaur and Minotaur along with Michael 4 Victoria 4 (their variance) and freak 4. I'm overwhelmed with trying to fit clothing and understanding the mechanics of all these conversions, UV mapping, converting, batching, skins, morphs and what not. Also a lot of the clothing I get doesn't seem to fit right on other characters and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Perhaps I'm just not understanding the process. I was wondering if there was a flow chart available, for example, an M4 character might have an arrow pointing to what generation it is, followed by what converters/uv maps/batching/etc (with links to purchasable content) depending on your goal. The flowchart would eventually lead to the current Genesis, which I assume is the goal since it'll have more options available and flexibility. Would Following the flowchart in reverse allow you to change from a Genesis model back to the previous one? Would there be a reason to do so? If not a flow chart, how about a spreadsheet or a web page with drop-down menus that you select a model name or version and then it would list all that was said above. Is there anything of that nature available? A visual aid would be a big help here. Thank you for your time and any advice would be appreciated.

There's also the compatibility matrix, though it only goes up to Genesis 2 (Brodie 6, NOV20-2014). I don't know why they abandoned it.

    Story:

They all stared intently at the dimension vortex. Would she come through? The great creator … the one who could save their world. The fairies had risked all in travelling through the vortex to acquire something the creator would cross worlds to retrieve. They had barely made it back in their allotted time. Eilish hadn’t wanted to steal from her, but GypsyAngel was their last hope.

Had they done the right thing? The Mokie seemed an odd choice. It was lifeless and Eilish could sense no magic in it. The fairies had said GypsyAngel kept it by her side at night, sometimes cradled in her arms. They insisted it was her most treasured possession.
