One thing to note- the cart is and has done the wrong dates ever since Magento, possibly before but I wasn't a member then. My order several hours ago (BEFORE daz time changeover, Central time was even before midnight) showed 7-1 when it was clearly still 6-30. This might make a difference if you are trying to tell support that you still had the Summer Sizzle savings (as we don't know when it ends.) So be aware the cart date isn't correct, even by Daz time. It is only now 1am central time.

    Where are you seeing this?

In your Orders. The dates are often one day off. And I mean when I order several hours before daz midnight. I am central time, placed an order around 11ish here (which means 1am is daz's midnight) and sure enough, it put the order as July 1.

Hmm, last time I put in an order shortly before DAZ midnight (11:32 PM DAZ time) was in March, and it shows the correct day in My Orders. You've seen this several times? Does the emailed invoice have the correct date?

  • What's the story On Carrara?

    JoeMamma2000 said:
So yes, Carrara has some strengths. But that and 50 cents will buy you a cup of coffee. :) :) :)

The real concern is whether other apps will overtake it in the near future. If someone develops a .car scene importer into some other apps, and people learn how to "carrara-ize" the interface of the "other" app, it will be tough for Carrara.

I have no idea what that coffee comment is about - Sounds like cheap coffee to me!

I agree that if say Blender implements full integration of DAZ/Poser characters, or if DAZ Studio implements the major things that it is missing compared to Carrara, then that will be the time to look at these alternatives. I'm not holding my breath, and in the meantime, Carrara fits the bill for the majority of my work. I already do some of my modelling in Zbrush, clothes in Marvelous Designer and use Octane Render for Carrara for most of my rendering. So if I want things that I can't do directly in Carrara, or can do better and faster elsewhere, there are other programs to use, but Carrara remains central to what I do, at least for the foreseeable future.

    ...OK the good...

Congratulations Annie for completing 74 consecutive trips (hope I got that right) around our central main sequence G type stellar primary.. if stretched out in a straight line you have travelled 43,217,429,014 miles which would put you further into interstellar space than either Tjohn, or I (not sure about our squirrely friend with the whip).

  • DAZ IRay Render Speeds

I'm trying to follow this discussion and just plain can't. I got lost the minute someone threw out numbers. You throw out numbers and I'm going right with the conversation through the window.

I have no idea why my render is so slow but it's been stuck at 54% for 3 days. I'm not even able to look up the settings to tell you guys properly what's going on. But I do have one of the settings changed from memory to speed. I have a NVIDIA card. I told it optimization to speed things up. It gets to 54% in just a few hours and then... hangs.

I have the scene set to use only lights within the render because the dome would bring too much light to this. I have 2 planes that are emitting light as the sky. I have a huge house with every window lit. I have 3 spot lights on the central characters, three women. One is behind them because I'm a fan of rim lighting.

The odd thing here is when I was rendering it slightly smaller it got a bit further. I stopped it because I had to tweak a costume. Now that I'm trying to render full size, I get this issue. And I'm not sure what to do to resolve it.

  • Urban Sprawl - can't delete skydome (ungroup?)

Is this the one you have : http://www.daz3d.com/urban-sprawl

According to the Product Page :

Presented as a figure(.cr2), Urban Sprawl's body groups are as follows: •Northside
    •Southside
    •WestSide
    •Eastside
    •Central(contains all of the roads)
    •SkyDome
    •Roadmarkings

Does SkyDome not appear in the Scene pane, if so, click the little eye icon next to it, and that will make it invisible. I don't have this set, so I can't check.

  • Partially complete content items - especially props

    Havos said:
I agree with you on your points, buildings that have both an interior or exterior are definitely more flexible. I would however raise a couple of points.

    1) This could significantly raise the time needed to create something, and thus its cost. If someone only wants the exterior or interior, they are this being forced to pay for both.

    2) Sci-fi internal scenes in particular are difficult to place in an external context. They could be the central corridor of a small ship, or part of the interior of some huge death star.

Where I dislike missing interiors the most are in normal buildings like houses. These models generally frost out the windows and/or add fake reflections so that you can not see inside. These don't therefore look great in external renders which is what they are designed for. The interior does not have to be much, just a blank room with no furniture, since unless they are well lit you can not see too much inside anyway. This issue is particularly important for buildings with a lot of glass, eg office blocks, as you can thus "see through them" particularly at corners.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Item 1 - This is already handled in Daz3d content. There are add-on packs for all manner of adidtional items.

Item 2 - You are correct, but when you don't have what you need you end up improvising. The original developer has what he wants to present in his/her mind neither you or I are competent to really do a best workaround for what is missing. If I could read minds I could do a better job, I am sure.

    Greetings all!

Have been following discussion while working on this piece. My goal is to bring a sense of drama, central interest, and romance to John Constable's well known landscape. I'm sufficiently satisfied to ask for your comments and suggestions. This is a tough assignment. Once again the organizers know how to "stretch" us.:)

Lovely image gionanni. The colors are very beautiful and I think you have achieved what you want to do. I think I would work on the fire. The flames seem to be too high and there is a space between the rocks and the bottom of the flame that does not seem to be realistic. This could be because of the lighting but if you can I would lower the flame a bit. I would also replace the human made bench with something more natural like a pile of rocks made into a seat. I would also scale down the fire to something a bit smaller, to me the scale between the girls and the fire seems to be off.

Thanks Dollygirl for the kind comments and great suggestions. Campfire is 70% of its former size and I moved the flame down and forward. Bench has been replaced with a boulder and added grass/weeds. Also had to adjust the girl with tiger as the tiger was showing through her coat. Again, thanks.:-)

Your Welcome and Looks good Giovanni. Yes making the fire a bit smaller did the trick. Glad you put the grass in too.

I'm nosy, you used Constables image as a backdrop and set up your scene in front? Guess the challenge is to set the lights to fit the image, but intersting idea. Great tree by the way.

Curiosity is a great trait in my view. Yes, the Constable landscape is a backdrop. The challenge is multi-faceted, lighting, perspective, color, believability. I took his landscape into Corel painter in order to adjust the color. I felt it needed to be warmer. I went this direction because I don't own Bryce. Thanks for your kind remarks.:-)

  • OT: Game of Thrones Season five finale? shocker (spoiler alert)

I agree those three, Dany, Jon, and Tyrion are the central core of the entire series. Hence the reason I predict Jon will be back. Now anybody else, fair game.

Ned Stark death was exactly the first act turning point that sets the whole narrative in motion, up to that point it was all about introducing the characters, setting up the world, and then dropping the cluster bomb with his execution. He was the mentor archtype, and mentors die so the hero will rise.

Stannis, has been unlikeable since the beginning, and he sealed his fate with the burning of the innocent. If there ever was a more unworthy leader...

We just need to remember these words that keep getting repeated: "You know nothing, Jon Snow"

So how long do we have to wait to find out what happens next?

I've added a sandy coastline (with a slight taper side-to-side0. I did look at adding some palms, bushes or rocks - but when the are scaled to the cityscape - they are nearly invisible and undistinguishable. I also added a 15% haze to the cityscape and sky. This really accentuates the foreground boaters. I think we are nearing completion... that is - I'm at a loss for additional editing direction.

Here it is now. Any thoughts??

I like your beach better. I understand your concern about insufficient details when dealing with grand scale but your viewer's eye is a wondrous thing and just because it looks like a blob of green your viewer will assume it is palm trees on a sunny Florida beach. Just one would be good. That is a long line across your image.

Hey Dollygirl, I added 5 palm trees to the central third of the beach. I scaled them at at 1.5 to make them more easily identifiable. While they're not overly tall... the trunks are still quite thin... but not too bad.

Tall thin palms here are quite common. The city I live in is know for its palm tree. So they are quite old, late 1800 to early 1900. The Mexican Palms can get 60ft tall and only have a diameter of 18". So what we are seeing on your beach is what we see here. I would put some babies clumped around the adults. I think your placement is good and even now has added more interest to your image.
