  • Platinum Club Plus Sale!

For non-members, I'll post a copy of the post I made in the MO forum, here..

We are excited to announce an all-new summer sale for the Platinum Club.

This is a first for us, but something we've been wanting to do for a while...but I wanted to really clear on a few things first of all.

This isn't replacing the anniversary sale, obviously.. but it's a bunch of extra promotions and daily new content from us in the PC.  We're going to be opening up last years bundles again (with a pricing twist) as well favourites like the BYOB's.

If you shopped like crazy last year, then I'll save you the trouble of complaining that these are of no interest to you.  These are more a teaser of what to expect in October for all the new PC members we've seen over the last few months.. and for those people who might have missed them the first time around.

For existing, anniversary-hardened members, this promotion will see increased discounts on new releases, back-cat items.. extra weekly freebies.. loads of stuff.  For us to go from 4 items a week to 14, for hopefully a whole month, (in addition to the Anniversary sale) hasn't be trivial I can assure you.  So I'm hoping it gets some support.

This thread as usual is for discussion (but please keep it positive)... funny pics, renders.. etc.  Also feel free to post issues or questions here too, but if so, please don't feel like you need to repost elsewhere, I'll handle it all from here.  There's also going to be a big render contest, with the big prizes you've come to expect, but I won't be keeping an idex thread on this one.

Please remember it's a month-long celebration of all things Platinum.

    Thanks!

    Yeee :) . It's a nice sale already yes

@Divamakeup: Wow thanks for pointing me to these amazing resources! Spent at least half an hour browsing through the poser daz wiki.
I'll post my renders on the thread you mentioned :^) !
I was playing around more a little bit trying to understand more about ghost lights. I seem to have no placed the opacity cutoff low enough here (still trying to understand how iray works)

Oh pretty! I love the colors!!

And yeah, the Poser Daz wiki is fantastic. Lots of great resources. When I first started learning Daz Studio I was on a pretty tight budget so that Poser Daz Wiki was a God-send for me. These days I'm not on nearly as tight of a budget but for a lot of the older figures there really isn't much that is available for purchase - so I still use the Wiki a lot to find stuff for Aiko 3 and Victoria 4. I have spent more than one weekend there hunting down assets for older content. lol It's like a fun treasure hunt.

Ghost Lights can be tricky, I think. If you want something a bit more "plug and play" I highly recommend HDRI lighting. HDRI Haven has a ton of really nice free HDRIs.

  • ZDG random Daz Studio discoveries and questions.

So, where was I many cups of coffee ago when things went sideways?

Oh yeah, GN had gotten a T-Rex-40 Threadripper 3990x to run some tests on. They were on their way to Aisa for some factory tours, so I don't think they had time to do anything other than the YT vid on it with a couple of blender tests and v-ray. damn, that is close to the two Tesla V100 cards, 3990x is a beast, lol.

Glad to see adobe is still in the dark ages of 486 code where only absolute GHz matters, it just sucks if ye does ANYTHING else with the PC that can comprehend more than 1 thread.  I would almost be willing to bet GN Steve, that if they LN2 overclocked a 7700k up to 5.3GHz, it would outperform that 9900k at 5.2GHz in Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Benchmark, lol.   In any case, Tech gauge also has a few good Arnold run tests as well as many other things (text webpage). Oh, GN did pass the 3990x threw a MonkeyHead Blender tests, much appreciated.  so, on to that Tigerlily g8f conversion I started to teas way back.

(it will take some time to collect all the product links). Left to right. Original Gen6 TigerLily (don't remember if Lily was needed for the shape or not), Bloomingwood hair, EJ Wind Earrings, JG Skirt, and Elvan fantasy. I do remember being pleasantly surprised I didn't need to adjust the skirt any to fit over the elvan fantasy. The middle is the Gen6-to-Gen8 shape conversion of Tigerlily (with modified Brisen maps, and Mika8 substituted for Giselle-6 shape, Mika8 ears as well), Xylia Hair, Bali Earrings and bracelets, Catgirl Megapack top with adjusted maps, SYLM panty and Loincloth 03. On the right is DES Brisen, Xylia Hair, Sweet Summer top and skirt, NC Chain, Sparkle earrings, and I burrowed Zev0's Molly's highly adjustable eyebrows for both Brisen and the Gen8 Tigerlily conversion (as I tend to like kitbashing shapes a lot).    Why was I thinking the list would be short, lol.    I first was looking at the shirt and was trying to get that pawprint to stand out more than being practically invisible, when I noticed some other maps in the folder that looked oddly like the original Gen6 Tigerlily stripes.

Hmmm, sort of like makeup that should be easy to convert to grayscale and overlay on the figures maps. I ended up going with DES Brison for this one, FWSA Paloma also would have worked with some minor color adjustments.

I wasn't quite happy with how pale the stripes turned out, and it needed much more tinkering. fast forward to a few months later, new SSD, and a new ver of GIMP to learn where they moved all the things to, lol.

Mostly the same as above, except on Brisen far right, I swapped out the Sweet Summer skirt and shirt, for gen6 Elvan fantasy autofitted with lower metal off, and SYLM Loincloth 01. I forced d-force on that loincloth and had to help it out some with a D-former, I should have left good enough alone with that one as d-force wasn't too cooperative. SY did well with that set.   As for the Catgirl Megapack set shirt, I've yet to play with most of the stuff in that set, the shirt just caught my eye when I was looking for an outfit for Tigerlily. I'm not really sure whether I fussed with the levels contrast or brightness curve for the shirt texture, that was so many cups of coffee ago. It can use more fussing with, however good enough as is. The skin stripe maps, now that is a really cool discovery I did not expect to find.

I initially thought about fussing with the brightness curve of the stripe map, however, that some times makes edges a tad extreme, so I decided to just keep piling up more darken stripe-mask layers till it was dark enough. I'm kind of happy with that result now.

so this was an interesting gaff. The board maker had sent the Overclocker a special explicitly for OCing designed and build bord with a Bios apparently heavily modified from the Aqua with the Aqua board name left in it. Then the started saying the board publicly available to the public had achieved the world OC records, despite it not having the same memory layout, and I highly doubt it includes the specially crafted LN2 OC Bios. In part 2 Youtube vid, buildzoid did have some good chats about memory layouts, not as extensive as the other vid he did that also covered differences between 'T' and daisy-chain topologies, yet still very good. (brb, need to restart the PC after the 24 hour live, why does YouTube live streams eat so much memory, ugh)

Glad the SpaceX launch went ok, hope Dougles's forehead is ok, being on the tall side my self I know how easy it is to encounter door frames and hatch frames.

And thanks to the commentators that let us hear what mission control was saying, much appreciated.

  • Dartanbeck's Journey - CG Filmmaking

Wow, looks great. You are lucky enough, that you have mastered Carrara program.

I have given up on it long time ago, because I cannot use comfortably Carrara's interface

and switched to Daz Studio, most of the time.

Your results shows, that if one devote enough time to master the software,

you can get out of it almost everything.

Very inspirational - keep up updating with your further results.

Wow! Thank you so So much! Over the past ten years (that's when I bought Carrara) I've been slaving overtime outdoor manual labor work, so my animation is almost always put on hold until I can pull off not sleeping for a day or two! Well... then I'd have a lot more time for it in Winter - so there's that! :)

    ...and blending Ivy into this:

     Congratulations on your thread .

I have given up on it long time ago, because I cannot use comfortably Carrara's interface

and switched to Daz Studio, most of the time.

Agreed that is why i stopped using carrara as well I am more comfortable using Studio, switching between the software was getting confusing.  and with Iray & deforce and fludios I get pretty good results for the animation i make

See, for me the experience has been opposite, though I've always been a big fan of Daz Studio - I'm talkin' ever since version 0.7 beta, which I still have the exe for on a storage disc somewhere here! It takes a lot of work to build something like Daz Studio from scratch, and Daz 3D did it! I'm quite sure that not enough people appreciate that.

...and then to turn around and make it Free, while still having the Best darned 3D Content pricing in the world? I mean come on!!! :)

(can you tell I Love Daz 3D?)

Okay, so here's my story. I was doing UV Mapping for a team that was making a free addon for BioWare's Neverwinter Nights game. It was adding the Spelljammer campaign setting to the game with turn-based space combat. Anyway... the fellow that asked me to join the team said that he was sending me a gift. What came in the mail? Poser 5 by Curious Labs!

I was doing the UV Mapping in 3ds Max 5 and Poser was a breath of fresh air to me! No modeling (I didn't know how to model, so he was teaching me to start with a cube - I hated it!!!). I made several adventuring group character shots with it and eventually discovered Daz 3D with their debut figure, Victoria, the Millennium Woman. What a Doll she was! All those morphs! All those texture options at Renderosity and at Daz 3D eventually! So real!

Oh... getting carried away. (image on left is V3 Rosie fighting Millennium Dragon - made in Poser 6 and Photoshop 5)

The biggest problem I had with Poser was what I loved most about it when I first got it - no modeling tools. All I wanted was to alter clothing and hair. I could grab and pull with these magnet thingies, but...

I looked at LW and, while it didn't look promising for getting Psoer figures in with their morphs and rigging, their community didn't shun me (like that of 3ds and Maya) for inquiring about the ability to use Poser figures. They actually even offered what few discoveries they've made on that front - which was at least something.

I saw someone using Carrara 5, I think it was, with Victoria 3 - he was costuming her up having a blast. As soon as I got home I found Carrara on the internet and bookmarked it - told Rosie I want it. She's my financial adviser boss.

One day I went to look at the promo pages again and they were gone! Web page not found! What?!!!

I did a search and... no way! Who ended up with it? Only my favorite 3D vendor in the world... Daz 3D!!! Awesome!

Even better, one day Rosie just calmly said to me, out of the blue: "Oh, Dartan... you can order that thing you wanted now. I've got $xxx.xx saved up for you to spend - so if there's anything else you can fit in with that..."   I had no clue what she was talking about until she mentioned the amount.

V4 had been out for a while, but I was using a Daz Freebie version of V3 still, with some free clothes I got from various places around the web. I became a PC member that day and have been one ever since, except for a very short period not long ago. With that membership came a whole slew of stuff (Free) and massive discounts on everything I wanted - so I got a whole lot of stuff! Carrara 8 was in beta then and they were running a special deal: Buy Carrara 7 and get 8 for free upon release - and in the meantime, join the beta!

I called the and asked if that same deal applied to the Pro version - I needed the Pro version. I mean... animated Ocean primitive? Get out!!!  Oh... yeah, so the answer was Yes. So I got Carrara 6 Pro with an upgrade to 7 Pro, which granted me Carrara 8 Pro beta, and 8 Pro when it came out. 6 and 7 came with a whole bunch of goodies, and 8 came with massive V4 and M4 bundles! I mean... Carrara by itself without the help of Daz 3D comes with a whle lot of example files. But Daz stuff is (and always has been) Top freaking Notch!

Oh... right. Where was I? Oh yeah: (Image: V4 and M4 Rosie and Dartanbeck, Genesis Orcs - Carrara 8.5 beta)

That 'whole lot of stuff' I ordered back then included the brand new aniBlock Importer for Carrara, and I also bought the full version of aniMate with a nice collection of aniBlocks to play with. Just looked too fun! Mimic Pro for Carrara... you know... a whole bunch of stuff. Howie Farkes too!

I made this after a year of trying to fight my way to my computer. I mean, back then Everybody had to have custom stone patios and walkways, and I was the only guy around to do it! It was hard getting computer time! V4 Rosie with three layers of Angelina Hair and Kunoichi Kimono and Dartan with his M4 Basic wear with a texture and transmap I painted myself.

Oh my! Had to buy the Witch House!!! Oh... right. It's a Mimic Pro test in Carrara!

Same year yielded a lot more experience, and more cool stuff from Daz 3D! Yes, aniBlocks, but a near-equal measure of good ol' hand animation. Old stuff = this!

I have to admit, I needed a LOT of help from the Carrara forum. I used to make my animations in Poser, save them as an animated PZ2, and load that into Carrara. Fenric sold a PZ2/BVH Exporter for Carrara - I bought that too, which was how my Animation Kit for Millennium Dragon 2 and Swordworks for M4 became a thing.

(recognize GoFigure's Hits and Falls anyone?) ;)

As a result of inquiring with JonnyBravo, who created the video tutorial for the aniBlock Importer for Carrara, I ended up making this with a 30 trial version of Sony Vegas Movie HD Platinum, which I bought immediately afterward. This was just a pile of test renders that hadn't been deleted yet

In the process of all of that, however, Carrara 8.5 was stirring in beta fashion!

So yeah... it took a while. But after discovering how easy it is to just change a single axis rotation across an entire animation (say, from an aniBlock, for example) right in the timeline in Carrara, I mean... I have a hard time animating in anything else now. I Love Daz Studio - I really do. But when I look at the timeline when an aniBlock is loaded, I am So freaking Lost!!! Probably because I've been getting help from the Carrara forum about Carrara-related stuff over the years, I think ;)

GoFigure makes those timeline tools for Daz Studio. One day I'll get those. It looks like they put a sort of Carrara Sequencer into Daz Studio through two combine products - KeyMate and GraphMate. I bet I'd feel at home with those installed. It's hard to go that route though after being so happy within my wonderful Carrara!!! :)

Okay, and just because Ivy mentioned Fluidos:

  • Something big is coming!

aaaand a v quick render with less extra lighting to show off what the beard actually looks like if you fix the line width size

    look at your man

    look at me.

this is what your man's hair could look like if you fix the line width size

Following your advice, I'm much happier with how the hair/beard/goatee look. I created a clean version for his arms/hands. I might try to fix the tats next.

I liken this character to many games put out by Bethesda, the makers of the Elder Scrolls series as well as Fallout...they release an unfinished product at a premium, and then expect the modding community to finish it, lol.

Maybe Daz was under a tight deadline due to this being the first time they'd ever converted a character and perhaps the upcoming release of Victoria 9. So, they had to just get him out.

Thanks, @j_cade for sussing the beard. I read in Daz's blog that the tattoos are layered images. Does that mean they are removable?

  • Can Genesis 3 figures be imported into Carrara?

Absolutely! All praise to MIsty! Well done and Thank You! kisslaugh I'm always amazed at the workarounds and plugins that extend the life of Carrara!

So, after loading Janette, I applied the Victoria 7 morph, and her parameter slider appears when I click on "Genesis 3 Female". But the slider doesn't seem to do anything to the model on stage.

Am I missing a step or something?

The other morphs that appear under Genesis 3 Female seem to work as expected. These include limb/skeletal movements, facial morphs, phonemes, etc.

Did you click on Actor then Parameters ?, is the step I followed to get V7 to work.

  • Generation 4 and skin shaders in Iray

Thanks for yours, ParallaxCreates. Generation 4 and all that sail in her are obsolete in DAZ Studio. I was even thinking of re-installing Aiko 3 and seeing what mght be done with her. Aah well.

They're absolutely not obsolete. They will require a bit of work to adjust materials, so if you're looking for 1-click solutions then they're not for you, but they can definitely be used in DS.

Thanks for yours, Leana, but would you please be good enough to elaborate? Overlooking one-click solutions, do you mean working in the Surfaces palette? What do you do to get Victoria 4.2 with a Hi-Res skin applied Iray-ready?  What adjustments do you make? I would truly appreciate an example, if it's not too much trouble.

It probably would have been good enough to just not make it stop working. When I installed DAZ Studio on a newer computer, I had no idea all my old scene files would just be block figures with no shape, or invisible figures because something wasn't carried over. Richard Haseltine had explained that there was some thing everybody did in the big transition to keep all their old stuff working. But at that time, I had gotten pissed at DAZ and jumped ship to Poser. By the time I came back, they were on Genesis 3. So I missed that big transition. I know Victoria 4 doesn't do all that fancy new stuff but some of the characters were very pretty.

When you use a Poser character in DazStudio and save it as a scene, DazStudio puts files into a data/auto_adapted folder. If you can find that folder on your old computer and copy it over, your scenes will work.

Or you can identify all those Poser characters in a scene that is loading with those block shapes, so you can load them again (without posing or anything) and save as a scene, so DazStudio creates those files again.

  • Can Genesis 3 figures be imported into Carrara?

Will the Carraractors accept body and actor morphs?

I tried the Victoria 7 morph but can't figure out how to apply it.

I'm also considereing getting the Genesis 3 Body Morphs.

BTW. I'm overjoyed that I was able to load Gen 3 and she seems to be working! laugh

All glory goes to Misty for solving the problem of loading and using blended weights

Thanks Bunyip for showing the morph locations.

Here is a Victoria 7 example of using content made for G3F in Carrara.

    - In Daz Studio, I loaded an outfit specifically for G3F, in this case the Samira outfit which has an Egyptian theme.

    - For each clothing item, I used EDIT : FIGURE : RIGGING : Convert to blended

    - I saved each converted item as a scene subset (other people get better success saving differently)

    - I started Carrara

    - I loaded Misty's G3F character available at the other site.  (I'm not bothering with shaders for this example)

    - I loaded the blended rigging versions of the Samira outfit for G3F.

    - As standard for Carrara, I used "fit to" for each of the clothing items and chose G3F.

    - After selecting the "actor" level of G3F. I dialed the Victoria 7 morph to 1.  The V7 morphs were autmatically projected to the Samira clothing.

  • Generation 4 and skin shaders in Iray

Tests in DAZ Studio suggest that Iray renders produce horrible results for Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4. Both have the colour of frozen lemons using the hi-res shaders that produced excellent skin tones in Poser. Am I correct in assuming that an Iray converter will be necessary to produce acceptable results? In fact, the same question applies to clothing intended for Daz Generation 4 figures. Thank you.

This is victoria 8 n the foreground. The chair in the background towering over her is part of Dresden Circle. I have to scale the set down to 3% and then zero all the parameters to get where it belongs.

The second pic is after correcting. I am wondering if there is a way to make it start the right size.

  • How to make glowing tattoos like this one?

Hi! So, I've spent some good 12 hours (6 before sleeping, 6 after) trying to figure out on my own how to make glowing tattoos. I'm working on a fantasy visual novel where one of the characters has a tattoo that reacts to his power activation, shining in bright gold. I've tried using decals, with no luck. Geometry shells? Can't edit surface, for some reason. So I was snooping around on the internet and found this:

    https://www.daz3d.com/tara-sachra-hd-for-victoria-7

And it's EXACTLY what I needed! A tattoo that emits light! Is there a way I can replicate this effect on another tattoo? I'm relatively new to Daz3d, been using it for 4 or 5 months, and learning how to do that would certainly take my skills to the next level.

I appreciate anyone willing to help me. I've been getting kinda crazy trying to do this on my own, haha.
