  • What's the Difference Between Characters Based on Genesis 8 and Victoria 8?

    What's the Difference Between Characters Based on Genesis 8 and Victoria 8? I understand that Victoria 8 is a character based on the G8 base model, and I see a bunch of interesting features associated with her like muscle bulge. I assume these features also apply to characters that say they are based on V8. But I see other characters that just say they are based on G8- do they have the features of back-ward compatibility, muscle bulge and so on listed on the V8 character? I haven't found any other character that addresses this in detail.

  • Where is Genesis 8?

    Did you install the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials package(s)? If so, you should find the Genesis 8 Basic Female in your Content Library under People/Genesis 8 Female.
    Victoria 8 is a morph of Genesis 8 Basic Female and she is not generally free. Occasionally she is offered free or highly discounted with some other purchase or sale deal.

  • Where is Genesis 8?

    Where is the Genesis 8 base figure? I was under the impression that Genesis 8/Victoria 8 was part of the free download package with Daz Studio, but I can't find either. I have Genesis 2 and 3 material, Michael from Poser and the Freak which I guess is based on him, and Victoria 6 and 7 (based on Genesis 2 and 3?) but that's all. I have been through ALL the file systems that can be accessed from the program, and cannot find any 8 figures.

    When I google for 'free base figures in Daz Studio' it takes me to the store, where instead of free base figures, I see $44 characters based on G2 and G3. Is G8/V8 actually paid material? If so, where do I find it?

  • Wrestling poses do not work

    I see one advantage in using scripts; it decreases the amount of pose files by 50% because each script covers 2 poses.

    Downside is the poses only work when 2 characters are selected and you cannot use expressions separately.

    But what really surprised me is that these poses "use bone translations in addition to bone rotations."

    This means in addition to bend/twist/side dials the bones are also moved into X/Y/Z directions. I have never seen this before.

    I wonder what reason lead to this decision. It's my impression that Genesis 8 figures actually have very realistic and flexible joint limits. (Victoria 4 & Michael 4 were pretty stiff in comparison.)

    Does anyone know why this X/Y/Z movement of bones might be necessary?

    GOTO and interacting figures poses have translations, usually hip translations.  That's what puts them where they need to go in a scene, and positions interacting figures with respect to one another.

  • What Happened TO Guy 4 for M4?
    I think I found a solution to a problem Okay long story short I needed to have an equivalent for the girl 4 to make a male figure that matches the style of that character . once upon a Time Daz offered a figure morph pack called the guy 4 but apparently the person who created that passed away they retired the package and it is no longer available. at that point I started messing around with alternative means to try to figure out this problem to make a stylistically matching male figure to go with the girl 4 . I remembered that sometimes Michael 4 will take Victoria 4 morphs . I applied the girl for morphs to Michael 4. And hallelujah the morphs took , however when I use the dial to change the head into that style the eyes go all wonky and do not scale up and change with the morph neither do the teeth. now I'm trying to figure out how I can fix this so that every time I pose the figure I don't have to readjust the eyes and the teath . if anybody has any ideas please feel free to share

    Could you perhaps fix the eyes and teeth in the default pose and position, then export it at base resolution as an OBJ then reimport it back in as a morph for M4? I have only made morphs for Genesis figures, so I don't know if the older generation figures work the same or not when it comes to creating morphs for them.

  • Generation 3 Aiko and Hiro Appreciation Thread

    Sorry, edited the title of the thread 'cause I just realized some new peeps might think gen3 stands for Genesis 3 and not generation 3.

    To avoid that kind of confusion I identify the older Poser compatible figures (say Vicky 1, 2, 3 and 4) as the Millennium or Mil' figures.  Example, Aiko 3 would be part of the Mil'3 range and Victoria 4 as part of the Millennium 4 or Mil' 4 series.  The Mil' 1 and Millennium 2  models can arguably be considered the same series.  The rigging and mapping are exactly the same, the Mil' 2 figures just had additional morphs.

    Y'might wanna' give that a try.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

    For that matter, there doesn't seem to have been a Michael or Stephanie prior to Millenium 2, and the zeroed V3 has the exact same mesh shape as V2, though the mesh, UVs, and rigging are all new.

    And Michael 2 is still in the store if you need him:  he walks as a zombie called Grim. If you already have Mike2, the Grim mesh is a functional FBM.

  • Legacy T-poses for Genesis clones?

    I'm trying to put a G2F figure into a Victoria 4 T-pose.  The shapes match after applying the hidden clone morph, but the pose doesn't.

    I did notice if I turned on the Joint Editor, the skeleton bones don't move when I slide on the hidden morph.  This might cause some misalignment when posing the morphed shape.  Oh well, nevermind then.

  • Best way to build custom characters

    Here's Margot with (left) and without (right) Victoria 8. She uses 35% of V8's head, and 100% of her body.

    How do you know these numbers? I mean, 35% and 100%. Is it your guess or there is a way to see them?

    When you apply the character (or any character that is built off other character(s)), the associated sliders also go up to whatever proportion they were at when the character was designed. That’s how it’s possible to dial the other character(s) out.

  • Makeup tips

    Yeah, a make-up tutorial would be nice.  I'm not a fan of some of the make-up supplied with characters, and I especially dislike full face masks like the one that comes with Victoria 8.  For that reason, most of my renders don't include any make-up at all.

    One tip that I got here on the forums is about reducing the opacity for LIE make-ups in the Lie Image Editor to tone them down, but that only works for LIE, obviously.  There are some nice LIE make-up sets available here, but you have to tone some of the looks down a lot.

  • Any reason to bother with V4 any longer?
    V4 character textures can be used with Genesis and Genesis 2 without any conversion effort at all...

    That's true for G1, but for G2F you need to purchase the V4 UVs (they're part of this product).

  • Legacy T-poses for Genesis clones?

    Where can I find legacy T-poses for the hidden clone shapes listed under Genesis 2?
    For example, if you enable "Show Hidden Parameters", and click on the Parameters tab, you can find clone shapes for various Genesis figures, like:
    Genesis 2 Female -> Hidden -> Clones -> Genesis
    Genesis 2 Female -> Hidden -> Clones -> Genesis 2 Male
    Genesis 2 Female -> Hidden -> Clones -> Genesis 3 Female
    Genesis 2 Female -> Hidden -> Clones -> Victoria 4
    Genesis 2 Female -> Hidden -> Clones -> Victoria 4 Skirts
    I can use this to morph my G2F figure into a legacy shape, like Victoria 4.  However, it doesn't come with a legacy T-pose.  Where can I find this legacy T-pose?

    I tried adjusting the pose myself, but the arms and legs don't match up perfectly.  Any suggestions on getting a G2F figure into a V4 figure T-pose?

    Does anybody know what hair is used for the promos of CS18 (Kate Upton) by Most Digital Creations? - And if anybody might also be able to identify the used underwear of CS59, would be cool as well. Looks like a product from nirvy but not exactly.

    CS59 underwear is a set by Hongyu:

  • Best way to build custom characters

    Quite often you'll see that a commercial character morph will have a custom sculpted head (usually in ZBrush) and a dial-spun body. Typically the store page (any store) will come right out and tell you that it requires a given base morph (Victoria 8) or a specific morph package (the base head and/or body morphs for that generation of figure, usually) to get the same results. Quite often, for child characters there will be a stated need for something like Zev0's Growing Up morphs.

    Back before the Genesis series launched if it sais you needed V4, it really meant it, because generation 4 female *was* V4. Aiko, Stephanie and The Girl were all morphs of V4.

    With Genesis, each generation has its own base and *all* the morphs, including the Victoria for that generation, are basically add-ons. And *all* the dial-spins and add-ons are *optional*. The figure will typically work without any of them, although any custom sculpts will be automatically applied by loading the character.

    Like in the Margot example. The body and head shapes are different. but I suspect the facial features are from a custom sculpt and have been applied with the character.

    Of course, when you load a commercial character morph, any of the required morphs which you have installed are going to be applied automatically too. You might get an error notice if you're missing one, but just click on that to make it go away. It's fine. Once your character is loaded, then you will probably want to select it and go check the "Currently Used' tab and dial out all of the morphs which came in with it to see what it looks like on the Genesis base.

    And then you start doing your own dial-spins and build your own character to order. You can modify the custom sculpt with dial-spins as well.

    Everybody has their own preferred method of working. I do a lot of illustrations using dial-spun characters so I just save a dressed "finished" (they often get further modified or re-dressed in use) as a scene file in a library of characters, and merge them into whatever illustration scene I'm building later.

    Thank you very much for the clarification! smiley yes

  • Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

    I know I am done once Genesis 9 hits.  I've invested a lot in Millennium to Genesis 8 and honestly, I'm quite happy with Genesis 8 and all of the tools available to use G8 models with older stuff.  (...)

    I've been reading something like this since the release of Victoria 4 back in 2006. wink

    As long as it wasn't me...lol.
