3d Art Freebie Challenge----February:"EleMENtary, my dear Watson!" ( main thread)
I've been having some computer problems lately, but it seems to work now enough to post my final entry. Those problems may also prevent me to partake in next month or two, since anything more demanding than net browsing, would likely to kill this machnine completely, so until I get a new computer, I can't do any renders.
But into matter at hand...
My 3rd entry continues my Sherlock Holmes theme, but this time it goes a bit sci-fi.
Window Through Time and Space
Working on a case mr. Holmes comes across this weird device, that seems to be showing things from different time and place. What would happen, if I stepped through this "window"? He thinks. Maybe it leads into a great adventure, filled with mystery. "Only one way to find out.", he thinks before stepping through and meeting the greatest detective of modern days.

How can I mix body parts of 2 different Genesis 2 figuresThe only way I know is to use a modelling application that will allow you to selectively apply a morph to a base mesh (modo and ZBrush are the ones that come to mind), then manually tidy up the join and either load the result as a new morph or as two morphs (top of Giselle, bottom of Keike) and mix them in DS.
GENESIS 3I've been using this 'updater' successfully now all day. I tried the cloth convert - 'transfer active morphs' after conforming. The specific conforming cloth is Powerages garter/stockings and works fine except the toes seem to be locked in a specific spot so when one appliea another pose there is an extreme distortion/displacement of the toes material - see screen shot below. Any help, ideas, suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2ok - opinions plrase. Anouk - who does she lok like to you?
Brooke Shields but I didn't recognize until I saw the response below your post. If it's a very modern celeb that I am out of the loop mostly.
Some celebrities are easier to recognize than others out of context. I did Helen Hunt using the FaceGen program and depending on hair, eyes, and skin I use I see Helen Hunt, Meryl Streep, or no one famous in particular. However, that's why they have make-up and costumes, so they can play their character and not be thought of as who they are, although that doesn't work to well unless they start putting in fake teeth, fake blemishes, and such like alter the shape of their face a bit.
I bet Sophie Ellis Baxter would be one of those faces that would be easy to recognize as a DAZ style morph. Generally I find Wert's morph's the most consistantly recognizable of those that I've seen.
Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2There's a free one at ShareCG http://www.sharecg.com/v/42665/favorite/21/DAZ-Studio/Diana-of-Thermyscria
I used the morph here http://fav.me/d9argpd, it looks better if not dialed to full 1 value
your heroines are amazingly well done.
Thank you! Glad you like :D
Lara rendersI used
Thank you Ice Dragon Art and Saphirewild

Thats really nice, are you using the same face morph from sharecg?
Thank you, no I did't use the morphs fron sharecg I create the face my selve

thats nice. if you dont mind telling me, which character did you use for the face morphs. Im trying to do the same for both male and female and Genesis 2/3 or Michael 6 dont seem to have enough morphs to change the facial features. (in this case im trying to replicate hitman)
Edit: nvm, it seems i need head morphs separately.
I used Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female and some head morphs for Genesis 2 female
what do you need to master in Blender to make something product worthy?@marble I use a combination of sculpt and edit modes to make morphs. Sculpting can be more visual, and the smooth brush is invaluable for making sure a morph doesnt have any wierd lumps. Edit mode I am still more comfortable with for fine details like, say, adjusting eyelids; also things like scaling eyes.
@timmins Blender doesn't currently have any automatic retopo things like Zbrush, but then again neither do modo or 3ds AFAIK. THere are many different ways to retopo. THe 2 most common ways are to build a mesh ontop of your base mesh with snapping. Or build a mesh that resembles your higher res mesh and snap it via a shrinkwrap modifier. If that sounds a lot like modelling, thats because it really kinda is. THere are a lot of workflow addons to make retopoing quicker, but, no matter the program, (well other than zbrush I guess) retopoing isn't something you can just quickly do without knowing how to model stuff. (and even for zbrush you need a decent understanding of how a mesh is supposed to look)
The closest thing to automatic retopo currently in blender would be decimate modifier > collapse + subdivision modifier to get quads. but its not something I would recommend for anything your looking to be rigged, the topology is heinous.
THere's also this, which I've fiddled with
Help finding content to install using ConnectI did finally manage to find them under products but only if you have all selected at the top on the left pane and at the bottom of the right pane and have filter by context not checked, but I would think they should show up if you had the folder people checked or shaping or something like that
Part of the issue is likely that the head and body morphs don't actually show up in smart content after installation since they're morphs that just become dials on the figure parameters. (A possible solution Daz may want to try is including a reset pose with the morph packages that sets all the included morph to zero and provides a single bit of content that can be categorized so the product is under shaping)
K4 to Genesis 2 Stumped!Load G2F or G2M and look in the Parameters tab under Actor->GenerationX->**People**. You should see any shapes that you have transferred across at least one character or morph for.
If the morph you want is missing, the go to GenerationX, Click "Source" and load the relevant CR2 file (eg K4) and then choose Selected Morphs as the Mode. Select any morph for the character in the main box (eg Stretch Arms, but any morph will do). Now transfer to G2F and G2M as two separate steps. Now load a fresh G2F/G2M figure and look again in Actor->GenerationX->**People**. This should have added the base shape morph, and it is this you can use to make a clone.
NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6Okay, call me crazy, now I'm looking at Mog Ruith. All the add-ons and Mog Ruith are only .80 (96% off) so now I'm wondering if anyone has any renders of those? Even if they aren't stellar, would be good for DOF background buildings for period pieces. Even in theme parks where they have different time periods.
I used this a LONG time ago. It's by, believe it or not, Stonemason. For .80 Millennium Environment and Private Places goes with it. With DOF these would be interesting. They have props, it's not just a background. Parts of these actually morph. I don't have Private Places, I'll see about the Millennium Environment for a render tomorrow. Gotta get some sleep, up early this morning, so ttyl.
I have Millennium Environment and Private Places installed in DS 4.9.1.25 with Daz Connect. Private Places gives missing file errors and I cannot get it to work at all. Time for another bug report. This will be my third today and it isn't even noon.

Helen Hunt look-alike model? Thanks. What hair & outfit is that?
As far as transferring the V4 I'm going to try a tutorial on that I've found. It is in Poser 10 using something called a 'shrinkwrap' method to create a morph. It sould like it should work OK but how good will depend on if the have polygons that can be matched on. I don't think this shrink-wrapping will add polygons to the target figure to help the topologies match better but it should be able to match the existing ones good enough.
I have many plants that have arrived for spring and must be planted now so be patient please. I will post on CG-Trader like Odaa to avoid trouble.
K4 to Genesis 2 Stumped!BTW: Using those add-ons your bought you could create morphs for M3,V3,A3,or any of the 3 kids (laura, maddie, matt etc) on Genesis 2, and change them into clones. That way any Gen 3 clothing can be autofit directly onto G2F or G2M. Like any autofit items, how well it transfers will vary, but it will look 100 times better than attempting to autofit without the clones.
How do you go about turning the morph into a clone, and where do you save it to use with autofit?
If you have the correct morph, you can turn it into a clone using these steps:
1) Locate the morph in the Parameters tab and switch to "Edit Mode" (This is done on the little menu button on the parameter pane)
2) Right click on the morph to become a clone, and select "Show in Property Hierarchy", this will open/highlight the property pane and show your morph in it (alternatively you can skip step 1 and find the morph directly in the property hierarchy pane yourself)
3) Right click on the morph in the property hierarchy pane and select "Show Parameters". This pops up a small dialog with the parameters for that pane. The fourth field down is marked "Type" and will probably show "Modifier/Shape". Click on the small arrow to the left of this and change to "Modifier/Clone"
4) You can now autofit clothing using the new clone on your figure, but you need to save it so that the clone appears each time you load that figure. To do this you go menu and select File->Save As->Support Asset->Morph Asset(s). Do not save as a clone asset. This pops up another box where you can must locate the morph under the Genesis 2 Female (or Male) section and select it. This way the morph is saved as a clone in your data directory, and can be used for auto fitting in the future.
I know this all sounds complicated, but is relatively easy once you have done it once.
Ok thanks those directions sound easy enough to follow, now for the first statement.."If you have the correct morph"...which morph do I need?
Runtime DNA content migration and downloadMigrating into the store is one thing and I can understand them not wanting that.
Migrating our downloadable purchases is quite another. The more items that smoothly make the transfer into someone's library, the more good will Daz keeps.
Runtime DNA content migration and downloadI think that's the reason they're keeping the downloads available at RDNA through the end of 2016, so that we have plenty of time to wait until they can tell us which products, if any, won't be migrated.
Yeah...I saw that and I'm not rushing to download anything yet. If it transfers over to here there is no need to do anything. Steve's post here doesn't match the one he made on RDNA though. I was all set to just let everything transfer over...sorry if this seems negative but I'm really confused over what is happening.
I think it's a matter of Daz will try to migrate over everything they can, but if a vendor or former vendor refuses to allow their products to migrate then DAZ can't migrate them.
That is part of the issue, but I suspect there are some products DAZ will not want to migrate, in particular products dependent on figures not available in this store. So assuming base figure of Star migrates here (and I do not see any reason why it would not since the PA has already stated she is moving to DAZ) then all Star products could migrate aswell. Naturally for products that depend on SM figures, or other stores, I would be surprised if they appeared here. I am only guessing, but personally speaking, I would fully understand DAZ deciding not to want them. However I am biased, in the sense I do not use any of those other figures anyway.
Fiddling with Iray skin settings...@Kaboom the original use is to match the iris surface with the sclera surface after adjusting the size of the iris. But somehow they mixed two "classic" eye CGI constructions which just dont make sense to me....it does even not show the whole iris texture under the cornea (strange light artefacts and shadows)... plus reflections are wrong using two reflective surfaces).
I am having success with using moisture as sclera, mapping the center translucent... bring the iris to the moisture /now sclera) level (here the morph is great ..... and use cornea as "cornea"...(no sss ).
I had to make the cornea bigger (scale and position morph)....
Now i want to make correct irises and textures - using displacement and albedo textures (most Genesis3 eye textures have inbaked light effects!)...K4 to Genesis 2 Stumped!BTW: Using those add-ons your bought you could create morphs for M3,V3,A3,or any of the 3 kids (laura, maddie, matt etc) on Genesis 2, and change them into clones. M3D Jesse For Genesis 3 Male - Now Available! [Commercial]Now Available! http://www.daz3d.com/m3d-jesse-hd-for-genesis-3-male
Jesse for Genesis 3 Male adds a shorter stature male to the Genesis 3 gene pool. All morphs are custom and only require the Genesis 3 male and serves as an entry point to using Genesis 3.
The base product includes four custom head morphs and one body shape with an additive muscular shape, with a HD morph for the base shape to add extra details. Each head morph has been sculpted in Zbrush and includes correctives for eye closes. The body shapes include over 50 additional JCMs for improved bending and muscle flexes and can be mixed in with other morphs from the Genesis 3 Male gene pool.
Jesse also includes a HD foot morph and two custom ear morphs, as well as a dial to adjust the angle of the ear as well as hip adjustments when posing.
Jesse loads a shorter character for the Genesis 3 gene pool, but includes an adjustment to scale the height closer to Michael 7. Also adjustment morphs are included to use head morphs for Michael 7 and Leo 7 with Jesse's body shapes.
Jesse also include various HD morphs and adjustments for anatomical detail for your renders.

Loading DieTrying's Morph into DAZ on Macyou may need to install the "DieTrying" folda,, as
....\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 2\Female\Morphs\DieTrying\182Morphs\xxxx.dsf
not "..\morphs\DAZ3D" directory. I do not think, we can install morph as different relative path.
Loading Morphs > Reverse Deformations > Load Pose? The pose option means,, when you select pose file,
tthe Figure pose will be.auto applied, untill, morph loader make new moprh as reverse defomation from current Figure shape.
The Usage is,, I think,, you can import multiple morph obj files, for each pose then generate new morphs at once.
without it,, you need to manually change Actor pose,,(or apply pose preset ) (pose1) ,
then import moprh1,obj, by morph loader, with Reverse defomation.. make morph1.
change pose2,, improt moprh2.obj ,, with Reverse defomation,, make morph2,
, chane pose3,, import morph3,,etc.
The ERC option have meaning only when you overwrite morph (which include ERC) with new improted obj. I think.
