Clothes from MD appear stretched out when posing in DAZ3D
When you create a new garment for Daz Studio, whether you are using Marvelous Designer or another modeling program, you need to adjust the weight maps on the garment after fitting it to your character. When you use the transfer utility, the weight maps from the character are transferred into the clothing, and of course the way a shoulder bends on skin is not going to be the way it bends on cloth, to the weights need to be different. Skin stretches when it moves, so the weight maps reflect that... but clothing for the most part does not stretch, it drapes. Adjusting the weight maps will help with the majority of the stretching. After that, you need to create JCMs to remedy any addition misbehavior by the clothing during a joint rotation. This is one of the things that makes clothing creation take so long for us PAs... trying to make sure the clothing moves correctly when you pose the figures and does it with as little distortion as possible.
Skin in Iray vs Cycles vs ???Hi please consider the context of where a thread is posted. Those head models are hi Res scans of real life humans with a topology completely different from models built for daz studio. They are not really relevant for a discussion about rendering daz content in various engines. What point are trying to debate here????I am. Like I said, the name of the thread is 'Skin in iray and Cycles...' Doesn't say 'Genesis 3 skin in iray and Cycles...'
Using freely available scans are actually a good idea. Everyone have access to it and they don't have to download DAZ Studio or the Genesis 1/2/3 starter essentials to get the model or textures into their app. The file sizes for both are larger than say, that Lee Perry Smith scan. The textures are captured by camera, not painted. Very important especially for displacement.
If you want to haze the same scene across different apps (not just renderers), just export it as an FBX file (figure, texture, camera and light position). With a free model, there's no copyright issues of mesh exporting like if you're using any DAZ models (distributing the actual mesh or textures).
The current setup for comparison forces you to have DAZ Studio and the Genesis 3 Starter essentials, load the scene and manually transfer it to other app to get the same light and camera placement.
Orphaned Soul's OlaThe store page is a bit of a mess as well. I know it's a freebie, and it's an RDNA transfer, but it looks as if it was just copy-pasted from the original with no regard for the different store page layout. I'd still like to have this in working order, but as it is it's completely unuseable.
A dummy for posingI bet some code could be written to use the xbox kinect and transfer the pose to Daz. Some of the VR/3D stuff people do with that gadget is insane.
Ola freebie incomplete?In the runtime\geometries\ola folder are all the obj's that you could import and do a rigging transfer to make it conforming if you don't feel like waiting for a fix...
Looking for a Nails Gone Morph for GenesisI have a Nails Gone morph in the Parmeters pane at Actor/Upper Body/Hands/Universal/Fantasy SciFi, not sure what morph pack they belong to.
Transferring TextureIf I load Genesis 2 to my scene and apply a texture, and then add the gens and copy the hip texture to hips of the gens, is there a way to save out the texture so just the part of the torso that has been applied to the hips of the gens is saved?
I have tried the skin transfer utility, but nothing seems to happen. (When I copy the hip texture from the figure to the gens, the gens automatically get mapped as M4. I suppose that happens because I have that product by Slosh. (Hope I have his name right.) If I swtich it back to anything else, it won't be mapped correctly). But like I said, if I then try to transfer the skin with the Skin transfer utility, nothing happens. If I select the hips that are part of the body, then it saves some textures that just the hip part of the torso. But if I select the gen hips or the gens, nothing gets written and there is no error generated.
Or is it possible to do this with UV Mapper Pro, or 3D coat or Blacksmith or some other program?
I also thought of the Shader baker. I was going to try it. But I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I click to enter a folder to save to, but every time I enter one, nothing gets entered into the box for it. And since I didn't know where it was going to save the texture, I didn't want to try it and maybe over right my original textures.
I can use the textures the way they are, but it would be nicer and easier if you could just save out the part that is being used by the figure.

RDNA products that are not coming to the Daz storeWell, here's my score regarding products migrated from RDNA and showing up in my account, so far:
All of my Mortem Vetus content, with the exception of items that they gratiously notified customers were being retired, has appeared in my account, including "purchased" freebies;
Some of my Pixeluna content that has migrated to the store has shown up in my account. However, some content that I purchased continues to languish at the RDNA site, with no indication anywhere of when or if it might come over. Some is for V4, but so is some that has migrated, so no apparent correlation there. V4 stuff that is apparently in Limbo (from my perspective, at least) includes Mitsuko, Demiskrah, DruUna and Lavinia characters.
Neither my Glacier Queen nor Dragon Keeper Bundle stuff by Arki has shown up in the DAZ store, nor in my account.
The Keeper of Kings texture expansion for Dragon Keeper by Secretheart has not migrated, possible due to the above. Other Secretheart content has migrated and shows in my account.
All of my purchased LittleFox stuff has migrated and shown up in my account, except for Penny hair for V4 and the Sugar for V4 outfit. Penny hair for A3 and V3 has migrated, but the V4 version has not, for some reason. Similarly, Sugar for A3 has migrated and shows up in my account, but the V4 version remains a big ?. Also one item that I purchased, the Snowbunny for A3 outfit, has been in the DAZ store for awhile but shows no signs of appearing in my account after a couple of weeks of checking.
Some of my Sydd Raven stuff has migrated and shows in my account, except for the Faery Pretty! Faces: V4 character morph package, and the OXYGEN: For Poser and DS and the Vanilla Sky for V4 texture\character packs.
Traveler's SSShades Of: Oxygen texture add-on has not migrated, possible due to the above? Other Traveller stuff has and shows in my account.
I have two of Vyktohria's V4 characters that also haven't migrated yet, if they ever will. Her products are all gone from RDNA and haven't turned up elsewhere yet.
None of my Aeon Soul stuff has migrated, nor is it in my account but this was expected as they had announced previously that they would be retiring all their RDNA products.
The Skadi for V4 outfit by RDNA Pro (LittleFox, Netherworks Studios, Nightsong, Secretheart) has not migrated, and perhaps may not due to the collaborative nature of the product and the fact that one of the artists does not sell through the DAZ store. Don't know.
Most everything else by a variety of vendors that I purchased is for non-DAZ figures that I wouldn't expect to be migrating.
In the end it is very difficult to decide logically what may, or may not be coming as time goes on.
Antique freebie problem, could use some helpAfter a week off I'm back to the content library reorg. I've hit the Costume runtimes. The commercial products haven't given me a lot of grief so far, but I've hit a freebie which I am not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. I collected it some years ago, but I'll admit that I've never used it. I'd have run into the problem much earlier if I had tried to.
It's an outfit for A3 and it's by an artist called Eldrich. It's called something like Renaissance Baroness for Aiko3. There were a swarm of add-on texture sets from 3rd-parties.
I've got what appear to be the original the files. It includes the .obj files. It also includes a swarm of character morph files for A3 and the texture files for the character. There are no textures for the outfit in the package. Thaose were all add-ons.
There are also no .cr2 files for the outfit. All of the add-ons are .pz2 files.
So how was one supposed to load the outfit onto the character? There are promo renders, so it must be possible. Was this some arcane process that was common before I wandered into this hobby back in 2009? Most of these files date from somewhere areound 2005 or 2006.
What am I missing?

Can’t render the eyes in IRayOn a Mac OS 10 latest everything
I’m trying to render this image in IRay but no matter what I try I can’t seem to light the eyes. (see image) Works fine in 3Delight.

Costume: Deathbringer. . . Altho I can’t see where that has any bearing.
Lighting: 2 distant and one spot for the face. (Tried point but it didn’t work either)
Extra 20% off?We do try to remove discussion of targeted offers, because some people do get annoyed to hear that someone else is getting an offer that they aren't, while others don't notice that the discussion is about targeted offers and complain that it isn't working for them. We don't always get to such posts fast enough, however, and as some have noted, people get annoyed at having their posts removed, also. And as can be seen in this thread, even when there are multiple targeted offers going on at once, there are still people who don't get any of them, or who are disgruntled because they didn't get the best offer.
I get that, but as this and many of the other threads have shown, these offers are often so confusing (and also commonly broken) that it helps if we can find out if others are experiencing the same issues.
While I'm not going to buy things just in case I get a bonus offer for doing so, I don't begrudge anyone else for getting one for buying something they love (also I do own Mei Lin 6 and 7~) I feel like it's a bit too complicated and breaks too much without really helping draw in new customers, but that's just my opinion. I really liked the offers last month to get V7 and the G3F morph packs for ultra cheap - even though I already owned all of the things and wouldn't benefit from it personally - when it was offered on the store, but hated the same offer being given in selected forum posts the day before. I guess overall I just like open strategies over ones that encourage secrets.

I'm having a problem with the teeth when i bring the morph back in from zbrush. I've tried a number of different suggestions i've seen but none of them seem to have worked.
This is what i usually do;
- select genesis 3 base character > parameters > mesh resolution> set subdiv to 0
- file > send to zbrush > draw out > press t > press f > turn on polyframe > autogroups uv > merge similar groups > turn off polyframe
- subdivide to 5 (ish)
- ctrl + shift click on face twice > mask off eyeballs and mouth > ctrl +shift click on canvas
- Do all the altering
- when finished > undo masking > reduce subdiv back to 0 > GoZ > back to daz
- name morph > select Actor > accept > set subdiv back to 1 > increase custom morph to 100% > done
It all looks and works fine and then i noticed that the teeth are really thin and pointy!i've tried setting the resolution level to Base (which i think you are suppose to do anyway), mouth realism HD & Navel to 0 etc and not much worked.
I think i have managed to narrow it down to Subdividing in zbrush being the problem but i need that to see what i'm doing better.
Does anyone have any other suggestions of what i could have done wrong?
And is there a way of fixing the teeth of a morph i've already done?Thanks for any help! :)
