  • Daz Studio 6.25[.0.x], General Release!

I'm having some issues with MikeD's Icon Creator Pro after installing Studio 6, and I understand that there may be some updates needed from them for it to work properly, but where should I be finding a related Forum?  Would that be here or is there a way to look directly at the particular Creator's Forum?

  • Studio 6: No Premier plug-ins are available.

I modified my filters in DIM to show Mac files and see a DS6 general release version of dForce Manager and Geometry Sculptor when I search for "premier". The others don't seem to be available as general release yet for Mac, only beta (or maybe they're tagged incorrectly so my filters don't catch them)

  • Purchased Daily Dealz no longer being recognized as Daily Dealz

    Elor said:

Only items listed in the Daily Dealz section count as Daily Dealz:

    https://www.daz3d.com/daily-dealz-sale#daily_dealz

Once an item is now longer named here, it's treated as any new release.

That's how the cart is currently treating those items, but that's not what the promotion says.

The sale page states "Buy or Own X Daily Dealz". It doesn't say "currently listed Daily Dealz", nor does it mention that a product stops counting once it rotates out of the Daily Dealz section.

When a promotion involves spending money to reach discount tiers, the qualifying conditions need to be clearly stated because If an item purchased as a Daily Dealz ceases to qualify later, that's a significant limitation and customers shouldn't have to discover it through trial and error or forum replies.

My concern isn't whether the system is behaving as you describe, it is that the published terms don't appear to explain that behavior anywhere, and based on the wording I think it's entirely reasonable for customers to expect previously purchased Daily Dealz items to continue counting toward the "Buy or Own X Daily Dealz" requirement.

If DAZ intends the promotion to work differently, clarifying that in the offer text would avoid confusion and set proper expectations before people make purchasing decisions.

  • I cannot slide images from Daz3d Website into my Windows 10 Exployer

I loathe webp, but it saves a few cents for companies over millions of user requests so it's inevitable.

If you're comfortable with such things, you can use ffmpeg and a batch file to convert them using drag and drop or command-line / terminal.

ffmpeg is of course free and open source and you can find it on github, and it's ffmpeg -i filename.webp filename.png to convert to PNG for example.

The most basic batch file would use something like ffmpeg -i %1 %1.png to convert (you'll have to put double quotes around the two %1 arguments if the filenames have space characters, but I don't yet know how to display that on the forum without it messing them up), and if you have that batch file on your desktop or another folder you could drag an image onto it, and it would pass the name of the image to be replaced inside those %1 values.

I made a batch file to convert everything inside the current folder to PNG since it's so annoying.

Problems Caused by the DAZ 3D Headlamp

The headlamp in DAZ Studio is a built‑in light that simulates a camera flash or video light, but it has several known issues and limitations that can cause problems in renders and previews.

    1. Unrealistic lighting behavior
The headlamp does not behave like a real camera flash. It often fails to illuminate objects as expected — even with high intensity, objects can remain dark, especially if they are farther from the camera or in shadow Daz 3D. This is partly due to DAZ Studio’s lighting engine not simulating real‑world light falloff accurately.

    2. Intermittent or inconsistent results
The headlamp can work fine in one render and then stop lighting objects in the same scene without any changes. This can be frustrating, especially when trying to get consistent lighting for a project Daz 3D.

    3. Position and obstruction issues
The headlamp is stationary and does not follow your camera’s position like a real flashlight. If the camera or objects are rotated or moved, the light direction changes, and objects may not be lit unless they are in the correct orientation Daz 3D. Walls or other objects can block the light, and sometimes you need to hide or reposition them to see the effect Daz 3D.

    4. Limited light count and preview constraints
DAZ Studio has a limit on the number of lights it can preview (often 8), and the headlamp reserves the first slot. This can cause it to fail to activate when adding new cameras or lights, especially if the scene already has many lights Daz 3D.

    5. Environment mode and scene lighting conflicts
If the Environment Mode is set to “Dome and Scene” or “Scene Only” incorrectly, the headlamp may not work as intended. The dome light can overpower or compete with the headlamp, making it hard to see the effect RenderGuide.com+1.

    6. Interior lighting challenges
In dark interiors, the headlamp may not be strong enough. Using low‑opacity mesh lights (around 0.1) can help fill in interiors and make the headlamp’s effect more visible Daz 3D.

    7. Final render vs. preview differences
The headlamp is designed for viewport previews, not final renders. In some cases, turning it off in render settings can produce better results, especially if you want more control over lighting YouTube.

    Summary:
The headlamp is useful for quick previews, but it can cause dark renders, inconsistent lighting, obstruction issues, and conflicts with other lights or environment settings. For professional or detailed renders, it’s often better to use custom lights or adjust environment settings rather than relying on the headlamp.

I accidentally posted this in the Beta forum, but it is a bug in the Beta, too.

DS6 General Release Main Toolbar Disable Problem:

    • I customized my layout to disable the Main toolbar in the Activities section.
    • I clicked Apply and the Main toolbar was gone from my toolbar.
    • I clicked Accept.
    • I saved my custom layout.
    • I closed DS6.
    • When I reopen DS6, the Main toolbar is back (Enabled) even though I disabled it.
    • I can reload my saved custom layout and the Main toolbar goes away again.
    • I have to repeat reloading my saved custom layout every time I open DS6.

Why doesn't DS6 open with the last used layout state when it is reopened? DS4 does not have this problem. My Main tool bar stays properly disabled.

I followed the steps but couldn't reproduce the issue...

I'm not aware of the cause by now... but if you go to the folder: %appdata%\DAZ 3D\Studio6 with File Browser, open Layout.dsx with Notepad++, can you locate a code line: <ToolBar Location="Top" Name="Main"/> ?  If you can, it means that the layout was not correctly saved for some reason...

Alternatively, if you right-click on the toolbar, uncheck Main (screenshot 1), then close / relaunch DS6, see if the issue persists ?

My DS6 IS opening with the last used layout, including TWO rows of toolbars.

Which reminds me, I must check the one feature of used layout that DS has NEVER preserved, and I've been complaining about since DS2 but it's never been fixed ...

"Are there any known isssues with the Geometry Scultptor on strand-based hair? Basically, I cannot get it to work."

For strand hair you have to select vertices.. is that what you are doing?

Trying again. You are right, in 4.24 I was selecting the hair, and in 6.25, the base. Stupid mistake - thanks! :D

    BUT, it still doesn't work.

    • In 4.24  I can drag the hair. The machine lets me edit it no trouble at all. It's pretty much instant and completely respnsive.
    • In 6.25 a dialog appears briefly to say it' building the geometry (which is not an issue). I then click on the hair. The UI freezes completely for an extended period before it eventually recovers.

I've done this a few tiems. The shortest freeze was 20 seconds, the longest around a minute. The operating system displays the ghost window and the Daz title bad changes to "not responding" indicating that Daz has frozen and cannot process its message queue. It's a proper freeze. Since this works well in 4.24, there is no issue with the hardware. In both cases, I am using texture shading in the viewport.

You cannot move the hair. It is 100% reproducible for me, and I class this as a bug, not a performance issue since it completely prevents the feature from beingused. For me anyway. I wonder if anyone else sees this?

I would like to report this as an issue as this is a major reason for my Premier subscription, and reporting it seems the best way to get it fixed. Here is a proper report:

    Description:
When editing strand-based hair in DAZ Studio 6, the application becomes unresponsive immediately after clicking on the hair geometry. The hang lasts for tens of seconds before control is returned to the user. The hair geometry cannot be  moved.

During the hang, Windows detects the application as unresponsive and displays a ghost window. The application window becomes pale and the title bar changes to indicate “Not Responding”.

This behaviour is consistently reproducible and appears to be a regression, as the same workflow functions correctly on the same hardware using DAZ Studio 4.24.

I have no idea if developers read and act on this forum (as in add them to a backlog) so I raised a support ticket. Maybe that is a better place.

It's important to me, but I expect in the sceme of things they have bigger issues to worry about right now. Still, they don't fix things they don't know about.

  • Boy this place is diffrent now.

Yes, there are still base human models for every generation of Daz character.
Things have changed a lot around here (Daz store), but they have not eliminated the base characters.

    Edit:
Things that come to mind about changes:

    • Some vendors have left the store and many product went with them. If you purchased those now inactive products, they are still in your product library and you can still install and use them.
    • Lots of vendors were assimilated from other stores. and lots of their old products were brought into the Daz store with brand new high SKU numbers, so don't be fooled into thinking that every high SKU represents a recently created product. Those old products were not given a readme file or metadata for Smart Content, so watch out for that, too. Also be careful to not re-buy something your bought already at the other stores.
    • An Editorial License was added, that limits your use of the products. I don't think new products are getting editorial license any more, but check the license category for older products you want to buy. It should be shown on the product page.
    • Optional Interactive licenses and 3D printing licenses are required to be purchased, if you use the product for those purposes.
    • Standards have changed. Nudity is allowed in store products and promos now, but still not in the forum.
    • Product prices are higher. Discounts are often higher which compensates.
    • Memberships have changed (two different tiers now) and membership prices are higher. Evaluate the different prices and perks. Members often receive higher discounts in sales.
    • Some sales have floor prices, where no matter what discount percent they advertise, they  will not let the price drop below a certain amount. Watch out - sometimes these floor prices actually make the product more expensive than it is actually advertised for on the product page.
    • There are "Tokens" now, where you own a token for dollars spent. You later can use the tokens to discount a future purchase. The number or tokens you get per dollar spent depends on your membership tier. Tokens expire and tokens cannot be used on certain purchases. The discount percent per token actually goes down when you use more tokens at one time!
    • Fast Grab is gone and replaced by Outlet Store and Quick Grab store. The included products are low priced for several days and then bounce back to regular price. Prices in the Outlet and Quick Grab are not discounted by other sale discounts or tokens.
    • Prices on the product page and prices in the mini cart often won't reflect what the price in the "real" cart is. Always check prices in the real checkout cart.
    • Daz has just released Daz Studio 6 to allow customers to render with NVIDIA RTX 5000 series GPUs. Daz Studio 4 will never be able to render with 5000 series GPUs but is still available and they say it will remain available. Many users are experiencing problems with DS6 at the moment. Daz is investigating and working on the issues.
    • The Daz Gallery is currently disabled and has been for some time. There is no info about why or when we might expect it to come back or in what form.

    What hasn't changed:

    • Daily ads still have typos, missing fine print, and coupons that don't work until customers point out the failures, moderators report it, time passes, and Daz (usually) fixes most errors. Be careful when shopping to see that you actually get what was advertised. Usually the sales are so complicated it is very difficult to understand if you ARE being charged the "right" amount.
    • Excellent PAs are still selling excellent products in the Daz store.
    • Everything you buy stays in your product library. As of now, we can still download and install anything we have purchased.
    • Daz Install Manager (DIM) is still an excellent tool for managing and installing your Daz store purchases.
    • Daz store search is still poor, in spite of having gone through a big update. Google search will usually be more helpful.
    • There are at least three addons to the Daz Store to help you shop: Ati and Overdrawn's Daz Deals, Utilitarian's bookmarklet, and junk's Chrome extension (available in the Chrome store). I find all of those useful.
    • The Daz forum is often a good source of help and information.
    • The Daz help center (customer service) is often too overwhelmed with too many tickets to respond quickly or helpfully. They are usually better with Sales tickets than Technical tickets.

Richard: I spent time and thought writing this. Please don't delete it! If you disagree with something I have said, let's negotiate and edit.

I noticed searching in the forms wasn't working too.  An alternative I use is Google search.
    In a Google search bar enter  site:daz3d.com/forums <search text>

    Example:  site:daz3d.com/forums "michael 9"

Lists forum threads with michael 9 in the message header and/or message text

    Example:  site:daz3d.com/forums michael victoria

Lists forum threads with michael or victoria in the message header and/or message text

  • Problem with stuck Compatibility Type and weird metadata

Well, one of them is setting the Compatibilty Base to the other's assets. The timing of the releases might not matter if the earlier one gets updated at some point after the later one. The Compatibility Bases are pretty much permanent unless changed to something else, or are removed from the database. In this case, removal is needed, plus some maintenace on the offending metadata file. I suspect the Moderno Casa is the culprit since it was apprently used as the default base when the metadata was created while some of those cameras were in the scene.

If you have Moderno Casa installed, it will be fairly straightforward. Load a scene or object from Moderno Casa, go to Edit->Scene Identification and click the ellipsis at the right of the Compatibility Base selection drop-down list. In the dialog, search for FG Moderno Casa (or whatever was used, usually the product name), and expand the list if not already so. Delete any sub-compatibility bases that are from the bespoke Photographers Toolbox (cameras, lights, etc.)

To prevent it from re-entering the system in case you re-install the product, edit the metadata file to remove those same references and replace the file in the package. Hopefully no other products have been contaminated the same way.

If you do not have Moderno Casa, it will be a little more involved. I helped another user with a similar problem not long ago. You can follow the conversation here ([Solved] Metadata: how to remove a wrong Scene ID from a Compatibility Base ?) instead of repeating the whole process.

My Dim has been a little strange the last week or so. For some reason 7 or 8 files pertaining to G2 and G3 and CF and Poser have shown up at the top of the list of things to install. New stuff showed up there too. And Daz Studio 6, but only the program installer. I had to search for Premier then the plugins showed up so I could install them. So if you're not seeing them, maybe you need to search for them.

Indeed, I have done that. Used Premier, used plugins... Nothing. Zero. Bupkis. Those plugins are simply unavailable to me through DIM.
