  • Non-DAZ format content?

    Gordig said:

What kind of tutorials you'll need will depend on the type of content. For static props, nothing is really needed except to save it as a prop in DS (File -> Save As -> Support Asset -> Figure/Prop Asset). For rigged props, you'll need to redo the rigging inside DS, so you'll want to look up some rigging tutorials. For clothing, you'll do whatever fitting and reshaping needed to make it fit your preferred character in Blender, then import into DS. You can try rigging with a donor figure, as Felis suggested, but I'd recommend just using the Transfer Utility. I've got a tutorial that is potentially useful for two of these problems:

Ok thanks - that's a start and I really should learn more about rigging ... how hard can it be??

As for textures - I already use shaders a lot so I guess I could apply those but I would need to, at least, create material zones and probably a UV map which is something I imagine to be daunting.

  • Genesis 9 to Character Creator 4

Regarding your issue of  Gen 9 not performing as a CC3+ character in CC4. I THINK this is because the Gen 9 character isn't coming into CC4 through Transformer, which, as we know, doesn't work yet with Gen 9. Transformer does convert the Studio character into CC3+ and works fine with Gen 3, Gen 8.

I am not entirely sure about this, but that is my best guess, for what it is worth.

Gen 9 is very new, but I am also guessing Reallusion will bring out an update for this, hopefully in the near future...

yeah, the Transformer tool feels like a bandaid short-cut to import outside figures into CC, yet the shortcut was made due to 3Dxchange at the time being so old and outdated it wasn't compatible with CC1/CC2/CC3 to the point where they completely scrapped it in favor of what's in CC4/iC8 and hell, there's not even any full Genesis 8.1 support (though it works when doing workarounds in DAZ to trick CC4 into thinking it's a Genesis 8 figure) so it's possible that they are going to get rid of the transformer tool in favor of Advanced AccuRig, since Reallusion was supposed to get Geograph support by CC4.1, and yet still had problems even though they've been trying since CC3 launched and AccuRig works with multiple meshes.

I know that others use these non-DAZ alternatives quite successfully so I wonder whther there is a guide somewhare that expalins how to convert them?

Import the asset into an empty scene.

Optionally set up its textures and shaders in D|S.

Save it to your library as a prop.

    Congratulations! You just converted it.

That's for a prop and is probably enough but clearly not for clothing. Also settting up textures is not, to my knowledge, trivial.

  • Non-DAZ format content?

I can't remember having seen any tutorials in how to import an obj (or fbx) file, for clothing items.

    Sickleyield has one for objects.

But what you want is to import the obj, and assuming it fits the base character, you can use transfer rigging, with the character as donor.

But you must be aware that an imported obj, will not have any adjustments e.g. morphs, and materials is very simple and will have to be redone in Daz Studio,

Just to close this out...ended up resetting the database and reimporting the metadata per this post: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/594911/problem-with-smart-content-male-figures

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

On my computer Launchable Products only shows Carrara and Hexagon. I installed Daz Studio, both release and beta versions and Bryce using DIM so why doesn't it show these? I would expect them to make sure it shows Studio,

Are either of them showing updats available? Launch is not available then (if you need to launch an older version you would need to work offline in that session) Also, some applications need an update to theuir metadata to work with the launching option.

Daz Studio release version is showing an update but Bryce and Daz Studio beta version are not.

Daz Studio beta is, I think, one of the ones that requires an update to appear.

    See http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#4_21_1_30

If the Daz Studio beta fix is private build only that would explain why I haven't got it.

Bryce is a more confusing matter. I checked my settings and found I had Bryce selected and Software selected but not 32 bit windows. I Selected 32 bit Windows and restarted DIM with no change. Then I tried searching in DIM. I searched for Bryce 7 and just Bryce. I found a whole lot of Bryce addons but the Bryce application is not shown as installed or as ready for download. I have definitley bought it, I can find it my product library. So why is DIM not seeing it?

I'm not that bothered about not being able to launch Bryce from DIM but I am concerned that DIM doesn't seem to know that Bryce is in my library so it can't check for updates.

Unfortunately Bryc would require further develpment to be ready for Install Manager, and so cannot be launched from Install Manager.

I accept that you can't launch Bryce from Install Manager but you used to be able to install it. Does the latest update to DIM stop it from even installing Bryce?

I thought I recalled that but I am told it would require updating the application, and that has never been done. However, it has certainly not been possible to isntall Bryce through DIM for quite a long time (years rather than months) as I checked the first time someone said it wasn't possible and I was sure it was.

The file type is shown as UNKNOWN, and that seems to prevent CW from generating useful Smart Content information. I have not found a way to set the file type or conetnt type within CW. Is that a planned feature for a future version?

No, that will definitely NOT be a feature.  The file type is pulled by parsing the file itself (the content type you can already change by double-clicking it in the table view) If you CTRL-double click the filename in the Table View and open up the asset_info when the File Viewer is shown, what is the type?

It shows nothing. The viewer is completely empty. I started the analysis again, and the CW log shows an "unknown file" for each entry.

Huh.  It might be CW crashed on import.  What does the log say?  Also, open that file in a text editor.  What is inside it?

  • How do I make sabertooth teeth for HiveWire Tiger for Daz3D?

I have attached the obj file.
You must be aware of that blender and Daz Studio differs in world orientation and scale.
Daz Studio has X-Y as a flat picture and Z is depth, while blender has X-Y as the ground-plane and Z as height.
Daz Studio has 1 cm as unit size, while blender has 1 m.
For my obj I use Daz Studio orientation and blender scale, so in order to import in Daz Studio I use the attached settings for import into Daz Studio.
The object will load at world origin. To place it I recommend Universal Tool, and in Tool Settings set it to use object coordinates. It will make it easier to position (I don't have the Hivewire Tiger). You might want to scale it too.
When you have placed one tooth, duplicate it. And to mirror along the X-axis use the values from the first tooth as
    Translate: -X, Y, Z. Rotate: X, Y, -Z
And when placed parent them both to the head. I would assume that that should work.
