When were the 2 items from the DAZ store free? Was it during this month? There have been so many sales it is hard to keep track. If you acquired them for free prior to October, 2016 then they need to be recorded as no counts.
Even if I do not count these 2 links you have enough valid links to qualify.

Item is parented or not? interesting inconsistency"And that's the way they always did it...so..."
heh, I could also see using the common "export tweaked char as obj->re-import as a morph" process leading to this sort of pure morph, even if the pre-export version was driven with bone transforms, those bone adjustments would be lost on the re-import, etc.
This really clears up some brain-muck for me, so thanks to all for the feedback. I hope this dialog is useful to future explorers!
ETA: comparing the controllers with the bones visible confirms the difference.
It's a great expression set, but not so useful for animating characters with teeth parented to the lower jawbone.
cheers,

Item is parented or not? interesting inconsistencyEver curious, is there a practical reason/trade-off someone would use a morph for the jaw movement like this rather than using the bone?
Since for some of the facial bones, they are rather new, my guess is it's done that way because before Genesis 3, it couldn't be done using pure bone movements. And that's the way they always did it...so...
Item is parented or not? interesting inconsistencyahh, ok, so am I to understand that the jaw movement in question that *looks* like it's driven as a bone transform, is actually a pure morph (mesh-adjustment) that behaves the same way, and is not controlling the bone at all, even if it appears visually identical? Never occurred to me that it could/would be done this way. Wow - the mental gears are going now, as I see all kinds of places where the different mixtures of these two controller types might really 'compete' in odd ways until you know how they're configured. hmmm. This seems similar to the morph/bone changes made in the G3 face architecture, I imagine, and may result in the same sort of effects?
So, to test this with my 'inconsistent' controller, when enabled/active, the parameters listed as being 'used' in the OW controller would include a bone transform, and the 'ArmyGeneral' would not show that bone as being used...
Or, visually, if I were to show the figure's bones I could see if 'Army General' expression controller actually moves the jaw bone when the controller is changed, or if the bone remains in place, it's a morph, right?
That means that this particular expression set may not be useful to me for animating a character that has parented teeth without manual teeth adjustment for each expression, if I read this right.
Or - Is it possible to bind (parent-like) a prop to a mesh element rather than a bone to get a similar result using some clever tricks? Conform or fit-to, perhaps? I've seen some autofollow side-effects that kept from doing that with the Toon-Amy teeth, so I think there may be some overhead in that approach too. urg.
Ever curious, is there a practical reason/trade-off someone would use a morph for the jaw movement like this rather than using the bone?
Thanks again for the insight! Big 'ah-ha!' moment here for a few things I've read and wondered about as I work through this all.
cheers,

How do I install daz content fresh?Try using google search.

Not sure if this answers your questions: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/120256/how-to-transfer-daz-content#latest
Here's DIM's user guide: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/userguide/start
But you'll have to tweak your DIM and CM entries, telling DIM the new location where it has to install the files. That can be a different directory from the free stuff you are using.
Then you have to add the directory in the Content Manager Directories as an entry in both, DAZ Studio and Poser content.. This is a screenshot from 4.8; 4.9 also has the Cloud directory to think of.

If you start changing folder names, your saved up files probably will no longer find the content, if the changes happen below the top directory level that DS knows..

HeadShop OneClick Submitted to DAZ - Best in Class! (Commercial)So this also creates a texture from the photo?? Not a bad price, may have to actually try it once released.
Creating texture is easy. Here we also automatically create the shape (morph) on the fly - and that is the hard part.
How to? Custom Star Wars morphs for M4 and V4Just letting you know I didn't disappear. Here's a quick concept proof showing that it can be done. Consider it the "base" that I'm working on. There are a great many things yet to do, but it's "doable."
(Don't be alarmed! It's just a base concept. I don't see any issues, just a lot of tweaks and moving some features around. There will be some major adjustments, of course, and the finished morph won't resemble this one very much.)
Disregard the eyeballs, eyelashes, ears - The eyes/lashes will be hidden unless I can figure out custom rig injections. The eyes will have separate conforming geometry and separate eyes and rigging. The eye-holes are being relocated back and to the sides to provide the base for the separate eye-stalks. (I don't think trying to use M4's eyes is going to work out well with the rigging, but I haven't completely given up on that if I can figure out how to script in rigging adjustments with an Injection pose.) The ear geometry will be incorporated with the ear canal, but will mostly just supply some needed geometry in a couple of areas. Might be fun to tweak ear morphs to get some interesting character morphs on the sides of the head. :)
I'm trying to model around what I know of how the various expressions work. He may need some custome expression, but that's not too difficult, really. (Slight base M4 expressions should work OK. Extreme ones will wreck his face... ) This was my major concern, since I was worried about about geometry stretching in certain areas. We'll see. If anything, he'll at least be "useable" which is better than nothing. :)
The ears will be modeled separately and rigged so they can be posed and such. A few injected poses might also be available. ie: Folded down, across the sides/back of head, left-right, up-down, etc. We'll see.
Some rigging adjustements for the neck might be necessary to keep the lower face from being deformed too much with certain movements. Shouldn't be too much of an issue. Also, instead of trying to model the slightly longer neck and then adjust the rigging, it's simpler to just have the user increase the y axis a few points so Poser's rigging can auto-adjust.
There will be textures and a high-resolution bump map for some of the extra details that I can't put into the geometry, due to lack of same. If I'm feeling up to it, I'll do a hi-res sculpted details normal map. But, only if it's worth it and the base model turns out well and gives decent results with standard morphs. (No use polishing a... thing. ;) )
Sorry for the delay in getting back. Had some things to deal with. Will update when able and there's something significant to show.
PS - What version of Poser are you using? I want to be able to be sure you can use the finished product without any issues.
A Rigging Tools PDF Guide (nearly complete)I'm going to need to learn the rig much better than I can now but whether DAZ Studio or Blender will be easier for me I don't know. I think DAZ Studio would probably be the better choice.
I think it might sell quite nicely in the DAZ Store at the right price and as a product for sell that answers your question. You need to take the other month or so and do the guide to your satisfaction, which seems to be somewhat more stringent than average.
There are a lot of similarities/techniques/skills that will carry over between the two...I just wish it was easier to actually transfer the final results between them.

Morphs not working after merging fitted geometryI remember,, sometimes I try to export actor with geografted item , clothings hairs,, to another aprication as collada or FBX, .then plan to merge them in daz studio, as one rigged figure.
it seems reasonable , when you need not change or hide geografted item. and clothings in other apps to animate.
after I merged figure,, as if it can keep all morphs as same as before, but once I saved it as subset,, then load again, it lost all morphs. (there were just parameter, but not work I remember)
then About this option, there is many case which we need.
Before,, DAZ support team suggest me,, it is only one option, at that time ds could offer, about my question, though it was WIP.at that time. like that .
" now I have one triax (or general) weight chain,. each part can roate free. then I plan to add head part (eg edge, or crystal sphere) which can rotate with bone.
I can make head part as different figure (name it as head part) with one or two bone (if Ineed) but there seems no way, easy connect the head part to chain1 as one rigged weapon
(I do not hope to parent head etc,, hope to make one rigged weapon by chain and head parts)If there is no way to connect two figure, Can I add another geometry , (imported mesh) to the figure, then just add new bone for new mesh, and color the weight ?about this case I can not use Geo grafting,, (there is no roop mesh which connect two parts)
I know we can easy add new bone, but about geometry, ds can not it still? Or I must need to export chain and head part as one obj, then import the obj,
after that transfer weight and rigs from chain 1 by trnasfer utility, then add bone for head part and color weight for the head part ?"kind support answered me
"Yes, you can do it if you are using the latest public release (version 4.6.3.52). Load the two rigged items , Fit one to the other
With the Geometry Editor Tool active, right-click in the viewport -> Geometry Editing -> Merge Fitted Figures Geometry, It will merge the fitted item into the geometry of the one it was fit to. Rigging is all preserved as well, it all becomes one rigged item."New User Contest Revamp DiscussionI am coming to the new user contest to learn Studio, which I have not really opened except to use the transfer utility. This challenge is great as it is. Even just lurking for a week or two I have learned a lot. However, I support any changes that y'all think will provide encouragement to participants. I intend to try a Studio project for the next new user challenge. I can already tell that I will want to experiment wth the bridges to Hexagon and Bryce - so I'll have questions for those programs as well. Therefore, I like the idea of promoting all of Daz's software, not just Studio. And I really mean "promoting," not just permitting.
Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback
I understand what you are saying about the other software packages (AKA Carrara, Hexagon, Bryce) That said a fair few of those all ready have established contests (Bryce does for sure and I believe Carrara has at various times) We do have people skilled in those apps on the team but generally more people come to the New User Contest in search of Daz Studio information specifically (though we do try to offer links and information on some of the others applications as they apply and are always happy to answer questions in whatever DAZ Owned software package you may be using). Hexagon is a bit trickier since with that applications you are discussing modeling which is not a New User concept. What is best to use tool wise or how to approach something can vary greatly by what you are trying to do (IE are you editing a material, are you doing a morph, are you changing poly flow of an existing model, are you trying to model from scratch, etc) so it makes it very hard to "teach". We do have a very nice list of Tutorials (which I am hoping to update very soon) on the different software in the New User Forums though. We have discussed getting "this advanced" for some challenges (like a modeling challenge as an example) but trying to use that to teach is more difficult and can be very time consuming for the participants as well as those helping and I admit to not being entirely sure how we would approach something like that.
New User Contest Revamp DiscussionI like several of these categories. Kit-bashing, material conversion and deforming wouldn't be among beginning skills though, would they? I would have also said that about shader replacement but I just bought shaders in the store today.
I don't disagree on some parts of that being more advanced or intermediate skills. Though we are kicking around another, potentially more advanced, challenge as well so those may work there but shhh you didn't hear that from me and we haven't yet fully decided so it could change and morph into a totally different idea in the end.
New User Contest Revamp DiscussionYou know, DAZ_ann0314, I like this idea very much. I have learned considerable over the months that I have been participating in these contests. More importantly, I have really had fun with the opportunity to both give and receive feedback.
I think that participation is important to encourage, especially from the contestants. There are always a few entries during the contest where the artists posted the finished work without asking for any feedback in the WIP thread. I would have loved to make some comments/suggestions to these individuals, but as the Entry thread doesn't allow comments, I wasn't able to.
Also, the change in the rules allows for other individuals to be recognized who don't have the perfect render - I really like the Most Improved and Most Revisions idea. Best Answer/Comment/Suggestion is a great way to encourage feedback participation.
Here are some category suggestions (yours are included):
Most Improved
Most Revisions
Best Question
Best Answer. There were some great tutorials in the October contest.
Best Encouragement. (I say this because someone once commented that he/she wouldn't bother with entering because some renders were so good. I encouraged him/her to enter anyway because the point of the contest is to learn).
Most Unique/Unusual. Something for a really cool idea that you just don't see everyday.
Best Shader Replacement. This is for replacing materials that are designed for the software/render engine you are using.
Best Kit-Bashing. This could be an outfit/props or environment - but the idea is combining items into a unit and making them look like they belong together.
Best Background. You will need to decide if this includes photos. But there is definitely a challenge to make the subjects look like they belong in a photo (lighting, etc), and making a seamless transition from the render to the photo.
Best Material Conversion. Daz Studio: 3Delight to Iray and vise versa. Poser has 2 render engines as well. Items originally designed for Daz Studio used and optimized in other software (Vue, Bryce, Poser, etc), and items designed for other software and converted to Daz Studio or other application. It's always a challenge to convert items and make them look good in your software/render engine and I feel this is a good category to be recognized.
Best Problem-Solving. If there is a problem in a render that requires more work to fix, like deforming or importing a piece of clothing into a modeling program to create your own morph when there isn't one available.
Thanks for your feedback and really great suggestions! :) Some may be more difficult to implement than others or some would maybe be better suited to specific "segments" of the contest (Like best material conversion may be better suited to when we do the materials challenge as an example) but it definitely gives lots of food for thought for the CVs!

On your question about participation, I answered that (well explained it) a few posts up.
We try our best to attempt to forsee and take into account a lot of different things. Sometimes when you are trying to balance all that it can be tough to choose what the best course of action is, which is why we decided to do this post to get additional feedback from everyone. Running the contest versus participating in it are very different things, so knowing how you all feel, what issues you can see, etc is a very important part of this process to the entire Community Volunteer Team
And can I just say what a wonderful CV Team we have. They really do work so hard on this contests to be sure it is fun and educational. (I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank them because they really are an amazing team of people to work with
)Item is parented or not? interesting inconsistencyProbably a simple setting if you know which one...
I'm trying to find the setting/flag that causes a parenting inconsistency:
My teeth add-ons (Toon-Teeth) that are parented to a Genesis1 LowerJaw move with the LowerJaw with some controller but not others.
I happened upon it with SimonWM's great 'Genesis Expressions & Face aniBlocks' set, where, when using the pose/morph controllers (not the aniblocks) that come as part of the package, any controllers in that set that happen to move the lower jaw don't move things that are parented to it (e.g. teeth). Other similar pose-controls that move the LowerJaw (e.g. the standard Genesis1 'OW' viseme) work correctly on the same figure/context in the same session.
Context:
Brand new DS 4.8 x64 scene with a base Genesis1, with a simple sphere parented to the figure's LowerJaw for simplicity.
Move the jaw with the 'OW' viseme or 'Open Mouth Wide', and the parented sphere moves too.
Move the jaw with the 'ArmyGeneral' (or other) controller from the mentioned package, and the parented sphere does not move with the jaw.
Test Sequence to parent a sphere to the lower jaw and try two similar actions that behave differently:
- new DS scene
- add base/default genesis1
- add new sphere primitive
(scale down and place next to genesis1 head for viewing)
- parent sphere primitive to genesis1 'LowerJaw'
(I parent sphere in place, because I've placed it where I want it.)
- Note that there's no auto-fitting going on here - just a simple parenting- open 'parameters' tab
- select genesis1 head in your 'scene' tab
- in parameters, find 'head->pose controls->head->visemes->OW'
- test the 'OW' slider and the parented sphere moves in concert with mouth/jaw
- assuming you have the 'Genesis Expressions & Face aniBlocks', now try
the 'ArmyGeneral' slider, and the expression occurs on the figure and the
jaw moves, but the sphere does not for this action. My *rough* guess is that the 'Genesis Expressions & Face aniBlocks' controllers uses ERC to group/collect various morphs and poses into one control, and some flag is set in the controller or morph/pose group that doesn't honor the parenting.
I like SimonWM's sets and don't think it's exactly broken, but maybe related to something that gets set during the controller creation, and I bet other controllers are floating around our systems with this same setting/effect. Searching the forums didn't result in anything meaningful that I could find.
My Question:
Which setting(s) control this, and can this be fixed (manual edits or changes within DS)?
Thanks,
--ms
Lucille (AKA Zombie Livinia)You know, there is just something wrong about a sexy outfit on a zombie...
Am I alone in this opinion?

Yeah, it just doesn't "fit" right. I wished there were more, ragged outfits out there that would work better.
Just today there was a male release, which is most certainly welcome, but here I was all excited for a new character and wouldn't you know. Looks like it's just a head morph. Nothing else, no textures, just a head morph? He looks great but back in the day a simple head morph was what you found on the freebie sites not something to purchase in the store. Seems like they are scattering morphs and character sets apart, selling a piece here, a piece there, forcing you to spend more just to get what you used to be able to purchase in one shot.
Like the G3f creature morphs, you only get 3-4 morphs for each body part, and some of those morphs are hd skin textures. Where did the alien morphs go, the fantasy creature morphs, the animal morphs?
Probably going to be in yet another character set huh?
Regarding PhotoshopGimp works well, though, as Richard says, not with the Photoshop bridge. Me, I use GIMP almost exclusively unless I'm using Filter Forge. And, GIMP will use most, if not all, of the .abr PS brushes. If you are willing to try the beta version of GIMP 2.9 then you can also combine the .exr files that the Iray canvases produces. There is also a build for GIMP beta 2.9 that is set up to use the NIK collection recently released for free. Do a Google search for Partha and GIMP 2.9 and you'll find it.
YEEEEEE
Oh my goodness you don't know how excited I am about that. I use the GIMP for everything and have been since 2009 (I loathe Adobe in general) and I have coveted the Nik collection forever. There have been Python script add-on solutions but I've never gotten them to work. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Oh, and with what Fisty said, I use 3d Coat for 3D painting, in case that should be a question that OP might have. It did cost money, and I used Blender for that up until I could afford it. Blender is not the very best at 3D painting but it's certainly capable of doing it when your other options are lacking. Blender remains my anchor for base modeling, simple morph sculpts and UV.
And one of the scheduled items to improve in Blender is the 3D painting...it's just a question of when. There are even more fun improvements scheduled for GIMP...but the 2.9 ones are big steps forward.
