  • Extrusion like Sketchup

    Hello all,

I have a circle inside a circle and I want to extrude this including the base like in sketchup to make a torus-like solid (I have to do more complex things but I need this for starting)

    It is possible with Hexagon?

    Thank you

    Stormy's Ride!

OK....now you are showing too much girl and not enough car! With that said, I'd say Stormy has a pretty nice ride. Love the old coke machine...looks like a sketchup conversion to me.

Of course its a sketchup conversion, one of the better detailed models from the warehouse!

And now for something completely different.. Remember Ed Roth? I used to love his stuff, so. here's a first cut (I need to make a few tweaks, was doing the final render, but 6 hours into the new version, we had a power hit, and that was that.. will try again tomorrow.. Basically I need to work onn the tire smoke, and drop the model to intersect the shadow plane... Car model was found in the sketchup warehouse...

  • Are there 3D BAGPIPES Available?

I have been looking for the same thing.   So far, nothing I have found is really what I need.   Looking for both Great Highand and Uilleann pipes.  A set of smallpipes would be nice too.

Had the same problem with the Ranquist freebie as Kyoto Kid.  Pity, they are rigged for animation.

Phil Cooke had a free set on his site, but it looks like he has retired.   He is still on Facebook, so you might contact him.  I have them somewhere, and need to take another look at them.

CGTrader has severl models that look very nice, but they are not rigged.  I may buy one of those and see if I can make it work.

Turbosquid has a rigged set for Maya, with possibly some other formats.  I need to look further into this.

There is also a Sketchup version, but I have not had much luck converting.

Highend 3d has a set for Lightwave which may be rigged.  In fact, I am going to buy those today and will report back in the next few days.   I have a project which hinges on this, so no time like the present.

More as soon as I can get that set and try it.   Will try it in PoserPro.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to make some progress on this!

I have Poser7 I bought from the poser sight. It is full version and was expensive. I installed it into this pooter (windows 10) and it will not work. It loads with Simon up and when I hit "delete figure" it freezes and locks up, or anything I push or move, locks up immediately. Then it does a web search for a fix and closes. How did you get yours to work?

Also...when I export any .obj from Sketchup parts or textures are always missing from the .obj file. It sux real bad. Thats why I do .3ds...always works and has the textures in place. How do I get the .obj exporter to work right?

I got mine back when they were free...lol. Problem I have is the spam attatched to it. Pops up when I open it sometimes...randomly. I stopped doing the GTA conversions after about 300 cars...lol. I seperate the doors, trunk, hood, and each tire, then the rest of the body. They all load right into place after converting each to an object. Then into poser to set the rotation prigin to the hinge and set the open limits so it won't open too far and closes back to zero and rename the dial. Set the size for the car then save it as a .pp2 prop file to be used in Poser or Daz. One file loads all the parts as seperate items with open-close dials. I still have a hundred cars I have not sized, applied the textures to, or saved as complete cars. I need to do some soon. The GTA cars are some of the best detailed and accurate cars available. Many cars you get from the warehouse are just conversions of GTA cars. In Fact, you can put GTA car in the search and it will come back with tons of cars converted for sketchup use. BTW... the new sketchup 2017 exports .dae COLLADA files that will open in Daz. The problem I am having with cars is half of the car doesn't ;oad. Don't know why and I am trying different things to fix that. But...if you make a model IN 2017, it will export as a .dae that will import fully into Daz. Cool huh? It continues to work after the trial time runs out also. If you go find a Sketchup 7 download...it will give you full export for about 250 hours user time in the trial. I did .3ds exports and opened them in Poseray...smoothed them and exported them as .obj files to use in Daz. They look fantastic! Just some helpful info for you crazy car nuts like me...haha. Here is a Sketchup 7 to .3ds to Poseray...smoothed and to .obj into Daz. Nice huh?

I simply just export the skp cars out of sketchup as obj's, we can do that now, I'm running Sk2017, since it would have made no sense to download and use an older version, still use Poser 7 to tie into the DS libraries too, great that even in Windows 10, Poser 7 still works like new, I still do all my work in Blender to get the model ready for use in Poser.

  • Looking for pop corn

@areg5  -  I quickly had a look at Sketchup Warehouse where I get lots of models.  Only thing is you must have SketchUp installed to open the models since it's in that format, then you can export it as .obj format, and others.  Search for 'popcorn' and you will see some models including vending machines.

Some popcorn and bag at http://www.sharecg.com/v/56482/browse/11/Poser/Popcorn

  • Carrara Running Slow?

I had that issue when Windows 10 migrated to "creator".

The only way I found to solve the issue was to download Intel driver management utility (I have an Intel 4000 integrated graphic card) and let it download and install its own idea of latest software.

From what I could gather from other forum (Sketchup for instance suffers the same issue), the Microsoft driver has a poor implementation of some OpenGL functions used by Carrara and Sketchup.

What's definitely  not cool is that Windows regularly put back its own driver and I have to update it again (and reboot) with the Intel utility.

I did replace the Intel MB chipset drivers & such directly at Intel's driver site last night but have yet to reboot. I did that when running the openGL / DirectX utilty that checks what version you have installed (openGL 3.1 / DirectX 10.1).

I'm dubious it it will help but I'll find out soon enough.

    Thanks.

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

I sure hope the OP's project works out as it would make life SO much easier. I use SketchUp Pro 2016 a lot to make my own architectural models and to take advantage of the resources availble at 3D warehouse. Right now the workflow goes  from SketchUP through Cinema 4D and is quite tedious and time consuming. I don't render my scenes in DS as I just make references for 2D artwork, so at least I have no worries about lights and textures. But it can take hours just to get a model of a simple garden shed to work well enough in DS to use as a drawing reference.

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

I used that model in one of my renders - took a lot of tweaking to get it to work, and having your importer would have greatly helped...

It's not a UP Big-Boy, but it is a steam locomotive.  This is a UK 'Mallard' type.  Classic SketchUp... 298,000 polygons (does that qualify as an acid test?)

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

Well. I do a lot of Sketchup imports , mostly for my automotive renders.. a lot get rejected as they don;t import properly no matter what I do.. Would be happy to apply as a tester, and being retried, I have tons of time...

This is the UI for the Daz portion of the SketchUp importer.

A tip of the hat goes out to 'mCasual' whose great variety of scripts are an absolute gold mine in terms of learning how to do things in Daz Sudio.

In the 'Import Model from Folder' section you can manually browse to the location to which you exported your model in SketchUp.  This is generally predeterrmined by the Ruby part of my tool based on the location of your SketchUp model (the SKP file); one of the requirements of my tool is that each model you want to export must be in a folder by itself.  You can also use 'Find Most Recent Export' to auto-detect the location of the data from the most recent run of the Ruby portion of the tool.

The other options should be self-explanatory.  I expect that this dialog will have more things added to it when testing begins with users who are experienced in Daz.

    Comments welcome.

The importer is essentially operational at this point.  I am now in the internal acid-testing / clean-up phase, and will be getting started on the documentation soon; typically I provide a PDF User's Guide as part of the download.  When these chores are done I will be looking for 3 or 4 beta testers.

    Regards,
    Mike

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

Still in process.  I've been traveling a lot for work lately and haven't had much time to devote to this, but I hope to get back to it soon.  I just need a solid chunk of time to be able to make my way through the process of getting it released on the Daz Store.

    Regards,
    - Mike

This will be awesome!   My attempts to import Sketchup models, either by some of the "tricks" people have suggested, or via the collada versions of the files, have resulted in strange but amusing results.  Flipped normals and the like, I guess.

  • What is Keyshot?

Keyshot, good for convert Sketchup models to obj and being usable in DazStudio.

is perfect is you use their own shaders included, using Keyshot SSS on Daz figures...ah...avoid it.
