  • Young Teen Laura

Keep in mind that although you can buy the base figures for the Mill Teens 3, the head and body morph sets are unavailable, which is pretty strange, I mean why they would vault the morphs but keep the bases. Basically if you get any characters whose shape needs the morphs then you will have some problems

I didn't even know there were head and body morphs for Laura.  I have several of the characters for her.  I checked and all of them seem to indicate that they used custom morphs and not use any other head and body morphs.  It's hard to tell, though, when the product pages for those older products don't always have the requirements linked.  I'll probably have to attempt to render all of my Laura girls some time soon and see if I have any problems.  I don't think I've actually rendered any of them other than the base Laura figure one time when I first got the Millennium kids packages.

Requirements that no longer exist in the store are not listed, but they are still required to work as designed. Naturally there is no link for the old morph pack on this site but I found a link from some Japanese affiliate site which contains the primary image of the morph pack.

    http://playfulwanderer.net/3dcg-possession/young-teens-morph-pack/

Weird!  I wonder why they would keep the preschooler morphs available and not the teen morphs if they are needed for other things.  They should be DOs so it's not like the vendor disappeared from the store and took all of their stuff with them.  I'll still try out what I have and see if they look like their promo pictures or if they do anything at all.  If not, I don't know what I'd do.  I got them super cheap and the 30 days are long past gone for a return.  I'd still be able to use the textures though so that's a plus.

The missing morphs has been discussed several times before, I suspect it's an error, if so it will probably not be fixed unless someone asks DAZ.

I'll try to push up the Laura project to see if what I have needs them.  If I find that I do, I'll be putting in a support ticket.  Might even put in a ticket requesting they be added back in even if I find I don't.  Seems like they really should still be available given that other older head and body morphs still are.

  • Looking for morph - big forehead for g3f?

And I don't mean, freakishly big, but a combination of a tall forehead and a raised hairline that makes some adults have an almost child like appearance. Christina Ricci is an example.

I guess these aren't considered so hidden but:

    Genesis 3 Head & Body morph bundles for G3M & G3F

    The Guy 7 / Girl 7 / Aiko 7 / Kenji 7

    Toon Generations 2 Mega Bundle

    Facegen

Mech4D's vol 2 of iRay shaders

everything else...despite my very large DAZ & Poser product libraries (1804 and counting)...I often still wind up buy a product or two when I make a render.

  • Troubles with translate

AutoFit works on the zeroed figures, and gives the AutoFitted figure the same centre points as the base figure (essentially it is adjusting the shape and running the Transfer Utility as far as I understand it).

  • comet for star

You can't use morphs made for the original Star! on Star 2.0, it's not the same mesh.

edit: if you had the original Star! you might have been able to transfer the morph manually, but without the figure there's no way to do that.

  • Show Us Your Iray Renders. Part VI

    .

    This took sooo much work.

I'm still debating doing something like this with geografts, but it looks likely I'd have to completely redo the rigging on the arms and oh my, that... no.

Another option is doing some sort of extensive morph for Genesis 3, which at least has toes fully rigged, make some sort of hand-like foot.

The biggest problem is clothing. The groin/rear is all wacky with intersection, and any attempt to fit something to the lower figure just messes up at the neck, so I had to place and pose pants.

As for 'whyyyy,' it's a somewhat recurring idea in scifi that humans who spend most of their lives in microgravity might be served by genetic alteration to have four arms rather than wasteful legs just dangling uselessly.

    Hands up!

  • Rigging from not-the-Null Pose

Okay, I think I've got it ... or at least now I know how I'll get there....

I remodeled the dress for the G3F Null Pose, with a denser poly count (about 6500 polys) for better smoothing and to eliminate poke-through. I also moved the elbow straps a bit higher on her arms, to reduce the deformation when G3F is moved to the dress' basic pose. There's still a bit of deformation on those straps in back -- the edges should be smooth, as they are in the Null Pose -- but I guess I'll need to fix that with a morph. Bringing her legs together also makes the thigh strap bow up slightly but, again, I can fix that with a morph.

The dress 'floats' a bit over her shoulders, but I haven't solidified the straps yet. Giving them thickness will solve that 'float.' If not, I can resculpt the dress to fit more snugly over her shoulders and, if necessary, do a morph to depress G3F's skin under the straps.

As for the connecting pieces, I think I can model those on the waist and back of the posed mesh to get the distances correct, copy them to the Null Pose mesh, and rig them to point-to their link points on the corresponding straps.

Then on to the skirt pieces that will hang beneath the shoulder and waist straps....

  • Acquisition vs Usage

Well, I believe my computer and all my files will be waiting for me in Heaven.  I mean I will get around to using it all as the soul is eternal and all. It seems like too much to get around to using now of course but in 500 hundred years or so, I might feel like I should have gotten more files to last me into forever......

Actually, I am getting picky. But When I switched to using G3F, I wanted a ton of morph options and eyes and makeup to create characters and it took awhile to get it all.  Now I am trying to figure out what to use as sets for scenes. Still outfits and hair come out that I want. Still I plan to do PC again and go on a spree once I've managed to save up for it.  If I manage to stick with G3F for a bit, then more will get used.  I just get ready to sit back and work and a new modle comes out and outfitting it with morphs and eye textures and skins starts again.  But I am happy with G3F so I'm going to go play with her.

Not sure if anyone showed this yet but it's Shaya (still endlessly rendering) for Mika with Georgia hair which you can make long, wavy, go behind ears, my new favorite hair! And I'm still in love with Mika and her addition to the gene pool!  I'm getting Stonemason's set but probably can't use it until I can figure out how to get NVIDIA on my Mac or laptop... The FWSA character looks too much like Shaya without the Mika morph...

Oh, wow, Wonderland! That's gorgeous! Love this combo! And didn't know that about the hair. Thank you!

  • Rigging from not-the-Null Pose

I guess at this point the only option is to go back and remodel the dress to fit the Null Pose, rigidify the elbow and wrist straps to keep them from changing shape when I move G3F into the dress' base pose, and make JCMs joint rotations to fix the poke-through and distortion there. Given that the dress' base pose includes a total of 2 collar, 3 shoulder, 1 forearm, and 1 thigh rotation (for each side) I guess that shouldn't be too onerous.

It's just 14 morphs ... to fit 1 pose ... and I have absolutely no clue which morph adjustments to put in which of the collar and shoulder rotations to fix the poke-through that only happens in that pose....

  • Law Enforcement Outfits for G3M AND G2M

There's a way to make things rigid followers. Basically you pick some points on the mesh and you tell the object (button, for example) "stick to that like glue". Since it's not rigged, they don't deform but the stay put.   There's a tutorial on youtube but warning: the example he uses is a nipple ring so it's a topless female (untextured). Just in case such things bother you.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CJWelfIMxI

In the pics below I used rigid follow nodes for all the buttons and the pin/medals on this jacket I made.  No matter the pose, they stay put and do not deform. They may, however, poke through the clothing if you use extreme poses which bend the cloth morph a lot (you can see some of that on buttons in the second render).  But even still, they retain their shape.  Very useful tool to have in your toolbox.

That is the pants tightness I was referring to lol

You'll probably have to make a morph in a program like Blender or Hexagon to get rid of that.  For G3F you could get something like Sickleyield's Decrackifier but I don't think she plans on doing a version for G3M which is a shame.

This is why I only use Dynamic clothing particularly on females.

Since I started making my own clothing content I not only

became painfully aware of the limitations of DAZ,s current

system but also how limited many of the clothing products in

    the store actually are.

I for example prefer the sci fi genere that of involves

Characters with extreme body morphs& shapes.
Now yes, the original Genesis 1 had issues with a puffed

    "doughy" look at time.
However it has been my personal observation that the original

genesis 1 figures & content were the best at maintaining the

clothing fits with extreme morphs & shapes.

It seems the further we got away from genesis 1, the more

content became less able to handle shapes outside the default
    particularly for the females.
When I make a new clothing outfit for one of my figures the first thing I do,after running the transfer utility,  is load an extreme body morph ,

If the clothing falls apart or, has major poke through,
( like many store items)I consider it a failed effort and trash it.

I am really thankful I have the modeling skills to make my own content both conforming & Dynamic
this is why any new content incompatibilities with G4 will not be relevant to to me as I will continue to use G2 and Always have new ,custom unique one-off clothing items for them.

My advise ..liberate yourself...LEARN TO 3DMODEL.

I think the biggest limitation on clothing and fits on different shapes is the ideal of trying to keep clothing as low poly as possible. Typically the cloth is a mesh that may have sub division capacities, but it will not have an hd morphing capacity in the way the figures have. Thus cloth creators are stuck in the middle, needing enough polys to cover the model while not overcooking the memory. Fear of adding in extra polys is probably what prevent vendors from testing and ensuring their items fit shapes other than the skinny girl.

What I'd prefer even more was an Autofit Tool that was capable of transferring all morphs to a cloth, not just the ones the vendor included. Basically, why do we need vendors to incldue morphs when we could simply create a tool that transfers all the necessary morphs to the item. I almost cannot blame vendors for not wanting to include the hundreds to thousands of morphs that are on the market for the various figures.

Autofit does transfer all morphs. This was probably the biggest advance Daz made with the release of the Genesis line. The catch is that while making a morph in the clothing to follow the body morph is mathematically simple, making a good morph is a Hard Problem. It requires human artistic judgement, and can't be readily automated.

There are many times that I will discover that Autofit failed to translate a breast morph to an outfit. I've also seen times whne morphs from other figures created using genX and the like will not translate. Or if they did translate, I cannot tell because I end up with poke throughs. I will also look for certain morphs on the list for the item and see that they are not there, but are present in the figures morph listing. I would agree that Autofit comes close, but I often find myself restricted in morph ranges due to having issues fitting clothes onto the shapes.

Admittedly I use Carrara much more often than DS, and there could be some differences in the way the Autofit behaves.

Hey @Wonderland   It doesn't matter if a product has been shown before or not, we love seeing the renders. I've done two characters, one is Shayla, and I'll post her in the next day or two. Want to get started with Grace.

FWSA Grace for Victoria 7       Frosty Winter (Gen3F)

I wanted Grace because she has a different nose than most of the Gen3F, particularly from the side view.  She's wearing Vidra Hair, which we've showcased many times. I am still looking, but the front morphs seem lacking, there's no way to tweak the front. It looks like a stiff bell, with the front raised up a bit. I went into Scene and broke it down all the way through the bones, I tried Parameters. I didn't find a good movement or morph for the front but they must be hiding somewhere.

Edit: nope, no good morphs for the front. It's got loosen sides, loosen this and that, but really not much else for any part of the shirt.
