Sharing my experience of customising my favourite Stonemason sets.

OK, it will be hard to even visit this forum for a few days, and making anything worth posting will be essentially impossible. I have a temporary near-complete paralysis of my right hand, and I am (very) right-handed. Typing this is taking an age, so using Blender is just out of the question until this heals.
Good news is that I am told to expect full fuction of my right hand to return within a week, so I should be back soon.
Sorry to hear that FA. Hope you recover soon.

This thread is to discuss any issues you may notice or any thoughts you have on the new website navigation launched today.
Navigation is still difficult and search is still very weak. Products cannot be grouped by filters. I find things on accident more than on purpose.
It is still too busy and too many overlays get in the way.
Daz is aware of the issue

A tracker just insinuated itself on my computer. While I was reading the forum messages! This is the only page that could have done it. I have only one other tab open, and they don't use trackers or ads of any kind!
A tracker meaning what? A cookie, or actual executing code? A cookie might come from an ad.
All I know is what you see in that image...it was the warning from Norton. After I saved the screen capture, it went away.
An ad is one thing, but placing anything on my computer that tracks my activity is troubling. And there is already far too much of that going on already.

Nvidia Studio DriverI've been running DS 4.22.0.16 with Studio Driver 551.86 for a few days now. Haven't seen anything peculiar, but I don't do complicated/particularly taxing scenes. HP Omen 40L with RTX 3060.
Just ran the Iray benchmark (from the forum) and that looked fine.

There're quite a lot of related posts in the forum but it's not easy to search... Anyway, search on youtube first (e.g. search by "Daz property hierarchy"...)
Then what's your DS version ? Make sure it's up-to-date, especially when you play with G9...
I use an old version of daz because I use linux... I always have some freezes when I try to make zbrush moprhs
Ah... if so, I have no idea about that as I'm no Linux user. Sorry for that ~~

Don't worry I just need to know more about property hierarchy, I tried to follow your image but... it didn't work for me...

Parent items in Place on by default?IIRC, it's On by default... even if it's not, you check it to On, and next time you launch DS, it'll be still On as the layout settings are saved each time when you close DS.
Also, you can go to the folder: %appdata%\DAZ 3D\Studio4\. There's a dsx file named "layout.dsx". Open it with Notpad / Notepad++, search ParentInPlace, check if the value is "yes".
Calibretto-ish Robot/Golem/...?Apolagies about the size. Both that wiki and this forum play merry havoc on image sizes. Hopefully this'll help;

Dumb question from someone that has only just read about this and hasn't gone through all 15 pages.
Is this an accurate summary...
- There are items for sale here that I am not allowed to use in renders that I sell on DA.
- There is nothing in the product page to tell me which items they are.
There is a note on the item's page that states the item is for editorial use only (e.i. not for commercial products)—it replaces the information about other licenses (interactive & 3d printing ones). The visibility of that note had been argued by users ad nasueam, but Daz doesn't care. There's an also forum thread where users report all the editorial license items as they're released, so you can check your runtime against it.
Example of a listing with an editorial license. The license note is in the bottom right of the screenshot.

And it also seems that the licence can change at any point. Has that happenened in practice? Would I be told if it happened for an item I've bought in a way I will notice, say an email? Or is this just a theoretical concern.
It happened once (from what I can tell): a hair item was pulled from the store because of its copyrighted name. So, the users who got it, retained their commercial license (whether they should use it commercially, is another matter, though it's probably less risky, since the biggest concern was the product name), and new users simply can't purchase it anymore. License change would be impossible to keep track of (who bought it when and under which license) and prove ("it's editorial now, but when I got it, it wasn't!").
In some cases, I think, the item was pulled from the store and then reinstated with editorial license. In these cases, I'd keep an eye on the forum (and the editorial and sales reporting threads) as people will report concerns and ask whether something should be under the editorial license, and you'll have time to return the product if you already bought it.
I'm just trying to work out what I need to do here. There may be are items I am selling on DA I shouldn't be. Should I be keeping an inventory of every item I've ever used in a picture that I'm selling and checking their licences status of each on a regular basis, then withdrawing the image from sale if the terms changed underneath me?
Surely that can't be right. I must be misunderstanding this???
I just sell some pics on DA and make a small amount of money that goes towards assets. I don't have a legal team to check with, as one of the comments above suggests! But I don't want to be doing anything I shouldn't be, and I might want refunds on things I can't use.
The most reasonable thing in this case is what many users in similar situation do: do not buy anything with an editorial license, period. It's not worth keeping track. If you happen to already have one or two items, delete them from your runtime and make a note somewhere so that you won't install them again.
In general, people might argue that the risk is low if you make little money etc., but it's up to each person how they handle such risk and if it's worth to them. To me (and many other users, from what I've seen), it's not.

Daz didn't do anything. They are a brokerage and don't make content. The PA's are the ones who decide what gets made.
Having trouble Importing expressions(Sorry, I know I've been in this forum alot the last few days)
I read through the Diffeo documentaion and I can't seem to get expressions to import.
My intended workflow is to import my character to blender with Diffeo then create poses/expressions (basically scenes without the landscape, just characters) in Daz, then import the poses and expressions through Diffeo onto my character A-pose.
Diffeo has both "import pose" and "import expressions." Pose import works great. I just save as a pose preset in daz and import it. But the pose preset should contain the expression and doesn't. I tried importing the pose preset through the expression import button but that doesn't work either. What am I missing?
If I were to delete the character in blender each time and re-import through easy importer it transfers over the character with the pose and expression, but this isn't going to work for me because I'm spending time modifying materials and creating physics for my character's in blender and dont want to have to redo it every scene.

Sharing my experience of customising my favourite Stonemason sets.^ ^ ^ This reminds me in a way of Danny Lyon and The Destruction of Lower Manhattan. What I really wanted to mention though is that I actually live in one of these things (high rise jungle). The city government here sort of pays lip service to 3-D modelling but coverage is spotty at best with all sorts of wild standards (hard to follow for a newbie) and bogus servers eg. File-1, File-2, File-3 and zero metadata to help you sort it all. Download the average "Tree Plan" PDF file (which is often number 4) and the first item on the agenda is usually cutting down all the trees! And none of these files talk to each other.
This might sound like griping, but there is a 40 storey tower going up NOW beside the four brown towers in this city graphic. But it does not appear in the graphic!!!!!
The largest proposed (orange-brown) tower is a 52 storey family condominium. Those "annual meetings" are going to be fun because the going trend is not toward local home ownership but foreign investors buying up blocks of apartments to rent out in perpetuity. Believe me after 40 to 50 years the projects have lost a lot of their shine and you get water and power issues when everything is packed so closely together.
These pictures are from a phpBB forum that I happen to operate on the subject; I'm posting from the "small" 17 storey building immediately to the left of the proposed orange-brown ones. The hole in the ground beside me is not referenced, nor is a major demolition (and two more towers by Tenblock!) ond the extreme left. And there is a Chicago style "EL" planned on the right. Bang bang bang, klink klink klink. One of the guys who presided over this stuff is now in charge of the MTA. Ridden that one lately?
One of the largest fresh water lakes on the planet is located about 2 miles to the south, but it's Watertown, N.Y. that gets the "lake effect", not us.
Anyway when you say "urban sprawl" and you show, or model lots of rebar in a tiny area this is what I'm personally dealing with. The corollary is of course the world class dustup that's going on re: spreading the city out ever more, eg. at some point you have to start building on farmland.
One last comment: it looks as though the DAZ forums are now allowing GIF files - that's new I think - but they won't play back animation, at least not through Firefox on Windows 10 which is what I'm using.
Show Us Your Bryce Renders Part 13Five Bryce trees with my own leaf and trunk materials. Bryce trees have somehow short trunks and with adequate means the roots can be hidden and the trunk lenghtened. The originals are at right of the lengthened as comparison. They are in a fading mirror box. Background and ambient light by an HDRI from Lenses and Filters and the key light by the sun. Test to give Bryce trees longer trunks. If you are interested how this can be done, have a look at this old forum thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/528691/show-us-your-bryce-renders-part-12/p2#Comment_7126196
