  • Hawaiian grass skirt for Genesis figures that is not dForce?

I am wondering if there is a Hawaiian grass skirt for any generation of Genesis figures, or even Victoria 4, that is not the dForce variety?

The reason I ask is that I would like to have the grass skirt be grass strands and not dForce hair based, as I had some trouble with rendering with a pwToon shader, and I would like to have a version that I can easily use a toon shader on while the girl is hula dancing.

Also, while I am at it, any hula dancing animations I can get for Victoria 4 or any Genesis figure G2F and up?

I'm a shader artist (before making your requests you can take a look at the quality of the work on my store if you would like to ) and I'm looking for what fabric shaders I can make as merchant resources for everyone, but I'm not really a renderer or clothes maker so I don't know what you guys all need? I'm sure there are fabrics that you all want and probably don't have many options for on Daz so if you guys could tell me here I can hopefully make them for you once I have your suggestions all lined up!!

Actual shaders? I would love to see a toon shader that works in iray something along the lines of PWtoon.

shaders as in texture shaders like metals, fabrics, etc. :)

What you make are shader presets, not shaders. There is a significant difference that many people do not properly distinguish. Even Daz seldom bothers to use correct terminology. Products like V3D Touch of Dirt contain true shaders (and many presets for those shaders).

I see thank you, I didn't realise the distinction!

As a PA and someone looking to make money from purchases you really sould be aware of the difference otherwise it could be construed as misselling (I doubt this was intentional) but its very frustrating when you think something is one thing only to find out its not what you were lead to believe.

I look forward to learning all of the various terminology, with my background being a film and television production degree this field of expertise is something completely different that I've had to teach myself, and having only been making textures in my spare time for around a year because I enjoy the self taught process I would be suprised if I could know everything immediately! But moving forward I'll bare that in mind.

Based on the wording and their catalogue, I would imagine they are more focused on shaders that based on existing things. I don't believe they dabble in system based shaders, such as toon shaders.

I wish DAZ Studio would add a dedicated render engine for cell-shading!

I'm sure you could figure out a workflow with pwToon or Oso Toon Shader. I've experimented with the former before, and I just don't care enough about NPR to get particularly interesting results, but it's possible.

Oh, it's possible. The promos of Oso Toon Shaders don't convince me at all (sorry!) but Visual Style Shaders and Manga Style Shaders are good. I just find them to be a bit of a hassle and would love a more convenient way... but perhaps I just need to use them more often. My brain is too IRAY-pilled.

  • Alternatives to iRay in 2024

There were two plugins for Daz Studio that let you use LuxRender for rendering. They were Luxus and Reality. I don't think Reality works anymore. It used DRM that connected to a server to validate the licence, I think that when the developer stopped supporting it the licence server was switched off so the plugin fails the licence check.

I bought Luxus a long time ago and it still works on Studio 4.22. I don't know if Daz still sells it, I can find it in my library but not in the store. If they do still sell it you could try it and return it if you don't like it.

There was a plugin for 3Delight called pwToon for toon style rendering. I don't know if Daz still sell it, if they do you could try it with the 30 day money back option.

Another render engine to look at is Filament which is included with Daz Studio, It can't match Iray for realism but it is very fast. Daz Studio 4.22 has added a lot of new options in Filment's draw settongs.

  • Scooby Doo!!

Thanks Wendy and First Bastion! Wendy I always agree with your insight on all things 3D and in particular DAZ and Iclone, but lets not forget the magic of PWToon and FaceGen. I was able to use Finley and Poppy for G3f and spin dial some basic shapes for Daph and Velma. I found some Scooby characters in Obj. format then harvested Daphne and Velma's hair and Daphne's dress and shoes. Then enter PWToon and the we have a fairly close rendition of a 2D Scooby scene. When rendering with PWToon it is very forgiving of solid style hair models. I need to do some tweaks on Daphes clothes using VWD but, 2D toons in DAZ is very attainable. The trick is finding usable Obj. files for the iconic clothes and hair. I have been looking for Velma Flintstone hair in Obj. format for a while.

FaceGen is also usefule for getting the basic face structures of some toons. I attached my 2D render of Daph and Velma along with FaceGen captures of Velma, Fred Jones, Shaggy, annd Wilma Flintstone. They are not perfect but do provide nice launching point.

I actually have an MMD motion file of the Scooby Chase scene in the Hallway that I'm going to convert into BVH and use in DAZ. If I can get the rest of the Scooby characters into DAZ. ( Primarily Scooby)

Let me know what you think, Thanks!

Sgt. Inez: Mystery of the Meandering Mech | Daz assets | Blender render | Clip Studio Paint post-edit

I just love this style.  How much time do you spend on post work for these images?

     David R,

Thanks for dropping by and for the kind remark.

How much time for post work? For this one, very little: the coloring and shading were baked in during render; I only had to work on the sky background in post.

I try to aim for a (non photorealistic) cel shaded look, and generally the work is split between Blender and Clip Studio Paint. Sometimes I use Blender to get the barebones line art and shadows, and then use CSP to color in the textures, hues and shades. On other times the bulk of the work lies with Blender, setting up the shaders there; I simply use CSP to make final tone adjustments and, if needed, creating the frame. When adusting the shaders so, I'd reuse the textures that come with Daz assets. On the CSP end, it's rich set of brushes (many free at the CSP asset market) come in very handy.

On occasion I've been asked how to achieve cel shading in Daz. I recommend looking into Visual Style Shaders and Manga Style Shaders. I myself haven't tried it, but I've seen folks share their work here in the forum and in the gallery. Very impressive! These shaders do a good job when applied to the different Genesis figures. PWToons was another Daz product often used, but sadly it appears to have fallen out of the market.

    Cheers!

  • Rendering - Toonish

3Delight is probably the ideal choice for that, especially if you have the old pwToon shader - but of course a lot of modern content has only Iray materials, and you would lose access to Iray-only features such as Decals and Section Planes. In Iray you might be able to do something with canvasses and then combine them in an image editor, giving a bit more control than just taking a final render into an image editor.

Funny thing about plugins though there are other brilliant coders out there probably chomping at the bit to get their turn to make money and amaze us all.  After we lost Dimension 3d for both Poser and DS Ken1171 jumped in and has a plethora of scripts for Poser 12 on up.  Sure we have to buy them and I realize allot of us are on budgets but if there are improvements to functionality and what not might be worth it.  I've bought MOST of Ken's plugins and scripts for Poser and they work every bit as well as Dimention 3d and any other vendor that's passed away or quit the business.

Entirely possible, for sure, but would we want to bet on someone swooping in and creating new plug-in to replace one lost to us? There are already 3DL plug-ins that are falling by the wayside (eg. pwSketch, pwToon, pwEffect) with no one picking up the challenge.

For that matter, a brilliant coder could pop in and write a rendering plug-in that would allow users without Nvidia cards (Windows and Mac uses alike) to let DAZ Studio use AMD's ProRender engine with their non-Nvidia GPUs, yet no one has stepped up for years. I'd pay big bucks for a 64-bit Mimic replacement plug-in.

I suspect that those brilliant coders would rather spend time working on Blender code than DAZ, but I'd love to be wrong.
