  • !!! The most detailed Circus model

I for one would have loved to have that long long trailer for sure but I am only one of many I guess!!

I do look forward to you selling it maybe at Rendo!!!!

I love to create things, and they always do good for my purposes, since I know how I want them to look. But honestly, since I am creating everything in Sketchup, I have no idea about UV-mapping and texturing. Most of the times I use materials and shaders from other people. I am working on finding and learning a way to create proper textures. The day I will be good at it, I will retexturize everything and try to put it onto a store. Actually the trailer itself is not using any special texture but if anyone would like to put a specific design on it, it would be a challenge because the UV's are a total mess! :-)

Those surfaces should reflect light; Iray has no problem with that. If you're rendering in Studio, you need to add mirror/sequin shaders to the appropriate surfaces.

There's a free mirror shader at http://www.sharecg.com/v/81125/favorite/21/DAZ-Studio/Iray-Mirror-Shader - usage rights are both commercial and personal, so if you want to offer this project for sale if/when you move it out of Sketchup, you would be able to use that shader for your surfaces setting.

The problem with Iray is that it reflects surfaces that are emitting light, but it does nor reflect light coming from a Spot light. The mirror shader reflects only the environment, so when it is totally dark and you only use a spot light, there is nothing to reflect and the effect is gone. The only way I found are metallic Flakes. But they cannot really be adapted the way a need them, since they are randomly applyed.

That is quite a project you have going with all that detail in the scene. You must have quite the computer ;-)

The night scene shots are great, but so is everything!

Great stuff! Would love to see some real dramatic lighting on some of these.

    Thank you @Rakuda

I am waiting for the right Idea to come up! :-) But meantimes I keep building and sooner or later I will come up with something spectacular. One thing bothers me with Iray... That surfaces like mirrors and sequins, don't reflect light! That would be awesome! :-)

  • !!! The most detailed Circus model

I just want to point out that everything i create, like this parade wagon and any of the circus items, aren't not done with the common 3D software everyone is using. I am modelling everything in Sketchup! I'm to lazy to learn any of the others. They all seem so complicated. :-)

  • Gun prop for genesis 8 problem...

    Hi ,

I need some help to make a real gun prop for one of my character. I modelized a gun with sketchup, and wanted to translate it into a prop, knowing that the double canon can deploy itself, and the gun is opening to load it.

I don't know how to start. The parametrage of the model must be all done in daz3D ? Or do I have to prepare it in 3DS MAX or soft like that ?

Thanx a lot to help a newbie again ^^"

  • Looking for a good M4 rifle.

There are a few varieties at the 3D warehouse https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search/?q=m4a1&searchTab=model but you'll have to convert them to .OBJ with the free trial version of sketchup or another app (I use ultimate unwrap 3D)

here is one I just checked out, looks ok after slapping some iray shaders on it.

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

SketchUp Make 2017 is free.  Maybe I'm missing something in your query?

    -Mike

he could be referring to when there was a standard free and pro version and the standard free version didn't export to .OBJ

...aw bugger. was hoping for a better way to convert .skp files without having to buy a Sketchup licence.  Wish Google would never have sold it off.

    Thanks.

  • SketchUp Importer - Early Progress Report

No, this requires SketchUp.  The tool consists of a Ruby script that runs inside SketchUp, and exports your model to an intermediate XML file, which is then read by a Daz script and turned into geometry there.

AFAIK SketchUp Make 2017 is the last official stand-alone release, as Trimble is moving toward an all on-line environment.  Sketchup Make 2017 can still be downloaded but soon will be unsupported.  This is not to say that it cannot continue to be used to create awesome models, and of course there is the 3D Warehouse with its immense amount of content to draw from as well.

...so again, refresh me. Will this allow me to convert .skp format to .obj without needing the Sketchup software?

  • Robotech models for DAZ Studio

For Invid this can be a good starting base

    https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/u00347108-5309-41cf-ad7c-4ffca5030dd3/Robotech-Invid

    But is for Sketchfab.

  • DXF or DWG files import error

I think you'll need to convert to OBJ elsewhere, although someone may have have written a LISP or VBA script to do it. You could do a search for LISP and OBJ, or VBA and OBJ ....If you find one its pretty simple to install into AutoCAD.  I have used several of these myself in Intellicad, which runs Autocad scripts.

Yep. I use an OBJ exporter for SketchUp 6 (or 8?) that's written in Ruby, to bring its files into Hexagon for fixing meshes.

  • Gymnasium & Bleachers

Those are team practice gyms, unfortunately not public.  Not the best bleachers in the world, but here's some stadium bleachers, left, right and center from creator vince.

Here's a basketball gym with bleachers.  Hope these help.

  • CAR AND BIKE LOVERS THREAD - MARK IV

so how are they for the usual curse of sketchup flipped normals/faces? Any better than the usual mess ??

Sketchup has tons of new car makers. I downloaded about 20 new cars and trucks. This one is a 1958 Chevy Apache that has been around a while but never like this. I just love this 4x4 version. Doors open, hood and tailgate also. Has a nice big 6 cylinder with good detail and plug wires. All around nice model. I will post more as I convert them. Got a few I've never seen before.

The files now are much bigger. Used to be 3 or 4 megs only allowed when Google had it, but now they are 20 or 25 megs average with lots of detail and not just cars either, furniture and artwork and some entire sets are now there for download. They too come out great. So far all the cars I have converted have the maps correct and the colors right. No flips showing white faces, and the grouping is correct so not colors going to the wrong places like before. I think that most of these cars are converted GTA and Mafia cars which are probably some of the best meshes out there. You can usually tell a good car from a bad by the file size.

  • The London Red Bus Is Not Rendered Properly.

    If it's this one https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/280046943bd65148669bde2c0a4bfb2/London-Bus-New-2012

Then it renders fine for me in DS

You don't have to convert any surface to Iray as DS does that automatically. You will however need to tweak or replace the shaders/textures for an optimal look in Iray.

Most models from the 3Dwarehouse need a ton of work to look right in DS. What app did you use to get it into .OBJ format?
