New DS Filament Render Engine
I would love to see someone develop a stylized shader or 2D style toon shader for Filament to get that anime-esque style of animation/look. Most of renders are done using pWtoon shaders. Iray doesn't work for me (I've mentioned this in several other posts). Unity has a beautiful set of stylized shaders, but upon installing Unity, I realized it is a live game render engine and not a frame still-shot renderer (so I can't produce my web comics).
Upon reading earlier posts here, I can see that Rawb mentioned that it was really aimed at webcomic and game style animation renders.
Maybe this Filament isn't going to 'do it' right now for those attached to Iray, but for me and my old Dell T3500, it is a godsend and exactly, what I was hoping DAZ would develop in time. I haven't had a chance to jump into it yet as my M-F job has me bogged down. I will this weekend. I'm seeing renders in this thread and they have me very excited to use it.
I came here prior to making some purchases because I want to see how others are doing with it. From what I'm reading, it looks like this is what my aging PC needs very much.
I think "cell shaded" is the word I'm looking for.
Can you give a sample?! I don't really know what you try to go for. But i imagine PBR shaders already exist for your kind of style i think.
A style similar to a Miyazaki animation, maybe like that of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I had this style done with pWtoon in this video I created using DAZ:
I want to be able to produce that same cell-shaded effect using filament, but with the Filament lighting that I see for sale here. (I'm not sure how to post vids here from YT using an iPad, so please let me know if this works)
Have you tried that??!
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/tutorials/dazstudio/studio-toonshadersUm, yes, many years ago. Thanks. But since the installation of Filament, no. I have to wait until this weekend to give it a try. I had asked about combining 3DL shaders and Iray in Filament, and one of the DAZ techs said that Filament is not based on shaders. I have no idea what PBR shading is. I've never dealt with it.
dunno if https://www.daz3d.com/pwtoon would work in Filament as I don't own it
I have pwtoon and tried it and tried it out and they do not seem to work at all, and Visual Style Shaders does some funky stuff to the texture if tried on Genesis 8..
And that's what I was afraid of. Hence, I asked if there would be a creation of Cell shaded shaders or stylized shaders for filament in the future.
Unfortunately so, and well the only way I see someone will to specifically create a toon/cel shader for Filament.. But that would be a long ways off, as there is so much that needs to be done to Filament first.. Like being more robust and useful, than what would be seen I would imagine by many as just a gimmick and nothing more..

New DS Filament Render Engine3DL textures play better with Filament than Iray ones - this scene is sort of hybrid. Benita's skin is Iray, but the light, the hair and eye textures and the background are all 3DL.
That's also great news. I mean for me personally since as aforementioned by me, my PC just won't render Iray. I would love to 3DL and Iray shaders be compatible with each other once a lighting node is added into the scene. Some shaders are ones I cannot live without, like pWtoon. Others, I would love to try, like OsoToon shaders for Iray.
New DS Filament Render EngineI just saw the news on Filament this morning. It looks AMAZING! I can't render in Iray, or rather, I can hardly render in Iray. I have a Dell T3500, fitted up with a GTX 970. It's the most that I can afford on a school custodian's paycheck. (Hobbyist here, not a pro). Iray is just too much for my system despite having 4GB of VRAM, and 24 GB of RAM. When I try to render in Iray, and sometimes certain 3Delight lights - DAZ just crashes due to the fact that my system overloads or the render can take over 24 hours. I have all these wonderful Iray shaders and lights and I simply cannot use them, which is a shame since some are so innovative and beautiful.
THIS! This is a most welcome addition. I animate too, so it's a virtual godsend.
As such, I have several questions after watching the tutorial here and I'm not sure anyone can answer yet:
1) Can multiple shaders be combined in one scene now? Ex: I want to use pWtoon shaders with an HDR background and an Iray metallic shaded sword, can it be done with Filament rendering? (Iray and 3Delight shaders get cranky together once lighting is added to a scene, often crashing the program or showing as all black or all white forms)
Filament doesn't use Iray or 3delight shaders as such, though I think Daz has doen work - as they did with Iray - to try to make sensible conversions of the standard shader(s)
2) Can Iray geoshells be placed over 3Delight shaders? There are some makeup overlays that I love, but the caveat is that I must use an Iray skin the NVidia Iray Render mode to make them work. Again, my PC cannot render in Iray, no matter how much I beg, plead, and chant a mantra around it. It just won't.
You can mix, yes, but as in Iray itself there will be conversion rather than a diect implementation of the different shaders.
3) The tutorial/intro video says that Filament works with older systems. Please say this is going to compact with Windows 7 pro! I not interested in the chaos that is known as Windows 8 or 10. I refuse to have to upgrade to those O/S until I'm absolutely forced to by the powers that be.
Thank you!
Thank you, Richard! I know it will be a conversation process for lights and such, or the eventual integration into the new Filament renderer. It really is a wonderful thing. I suspect as more time and more development from the tech gurus moves forward, we will see incredible updates, additions, and add-ones to make the workflow process of rendering so much faster and easier.
Thank you again!

I meant, *be compatible- not "compact" autocorrect strikes again.

Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)I wish I came across your question early , I use it for so long, mostly for rendering wire frames and color swabs , you never too old to learn something new !

This falls under the category of, "Well, that's embarassing!"
I remember searching the forums with Google, looking for a way to render the "Cartoon Shaded" version of the Viewport draw. I found post after post where other people asking the same question were told they need PwToon or ToonyCam Pro. Not once did I see a response that said, "just set your render engine to OpenGL in the Render Settings."
And now that Daz has renamed the setting "Viewport", I "discovered" I can now render Cartoon Shaded. Only now you're telling me, that option has been available to me all along… This underscores why a manual would be really useful. (Even though I understand perfectly why a manual for a "moving target" is just not feasible.)
As always, thank you for your help. Hugs.
Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.12.2.60! (*UPDATED*)First of all you need Filament in the viewport to be able to render out bigger render of the Filament, other way you will get OpenGL render only as it was there for so long I guess you never tried it before .
I have no issue with opacity map, it render exactly as I see it in the viewport , no matter what draw mode I use .
If you use cartoon shader preview the setting of cutoutpacity not really matter, as long there is an proper alpha map , assuming you using Iray shader for that , other viewport modes than Filament and Iray was made for 3DL shaders so it render as OpenGL as it was before.
Use 3DL shaders for the cartoon mode preview as Iray shader not really works with it at full , however if you use opacity map it works, it only need to be black and white without middle gray colors for a true alpha, if the eyelashes alpha is not completely white on black it will not works . the proper cutout opacity values are 0 or 1 and nothing between it, that why it is called Cutout , opacity on materials don't excist in PBR iray shader
same when you render refractions like glass etc.. it need to have something behind it like a prop or Enviorment as it will not render in a vacuum space and not in Filament
looks below, cartoon viewport and cutout alpha map ( Iray shader as I was too lazy to change it to 3DL ) and Filament render out and the rest works fine , can you show image to see the problem you have ?

Is the PoseWorks Shaders Library broken in DS 4.12?I have searched the forums and reinstaled all the "pwShaders" (via DIM) and can't seem to get them to work.
What seems to happen is DS does its best to apply the presets to the current shader but does not apply the actual shader. The object and the surface are both selected, and rendered in 3Delight.I've tried with pwEffect, pwGhost. pwToon and pwSurface2 all with the same results. Is anyone still useing these shaders in DS 4.12
Richie Rich characters' hairstyles and wardrobe?Gumdrops & those associated are still the closest and cheapest for the main star kid characters. You can get free addons at the Trumarcar freebie site. http://trumarcar.francemi.net/
You might try instead the Sakura & Susuke Genesis 8 characters combined with Toon Generations 4 and the DAZ Originals Head Morphs, Boby Morphs, Expressions (yes the Head, Body, & Expressions have to be bought for both G8F & G8M).
And yes, if you do anything than the Gumdrops, Ichico, Krystal & associated characters, it's going to be expensive.
If you want cartoon shading you then the PW Shader bundle that includes PWToon & you need to render in 3DL.
What the hell is Gordig doing now? This thread inspired me to start messing around with pwToon again. I have a number of toon shaders, but haven't spent a lot of time with any of them, mainly because I've always been more interested in realism than toony images (even when rendering toony figures, to @hylas's eternal discomfort). I used this render of Carina in that thread:

Immediately after that, I threw Gui into a scene to test the results on a very different figure with a different skin tone. I've also experimented with different hairs, but I don't know a lot about how 3Delight works, so I initially had some troubles with opacity maps. It seems like Nikan hair is resistant to the toon shader for some reason I can't currently ascertain, as it still looks like this, even with all maps removed:
How could I render skin like this ?We want to make an avatar for our game but the skin in Daz3D is too REALISTIC. How could I achieve an effect like this
I have tried various method but no success, for example....
- using different lighting
- Translucency in skin
- Diffuse in skin
Thank you in advance

Personally to get that effect I would use 3dl and pwtoon
Speaking of which, I spent some time dinking around with pwToon and got this. Someone like 3Diva could get much better results, and certainly much faster than I did, but I was basically just spinning dials to see what everything does.
