  • Turning Michael 5 into a little skinned male

With the second attached picture, I'm assuming you mean a "light skinned black male". If so, I would suggest this thread. Genesis figures can use Michael 4 and Victoria 4 skins by default, you just need to adjust the UV map. I'm assuming you're attempting to directly alter the diffuse color. This can be useful but is limited.

Hello thank you for your response I just have the Michael 5 base which and I was trying to darken that but it was a epic fail. Any help would be great I am trying to learn how to use daz3d. Thank you so much

  • My V4 characters to Genesis?

Okay, open the Generation X tab

Look for the Load Figure Button

If your figure is saved to Cr2, you can simply load that, because all the morphs will be applied already.

If your figure is an injection pose, you need to load the Victoria 4 or Michael 4 figure first, then load all the morphs, then load the preset. Then do the transfer

  • My V4 characters to Genesis?

Yes. I do this all the time. Your Textures you can apply directly. Genesis supports multiple UVS including Victoria 4 and Michael 4. V4 appears to be the default UV set when you first call up Genesis.

For the morphs, you will need Generation X http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x and V4/M4 shapes for Genesis: http://www.daz3d.com/v4-and-m4-shapes-for-genesis

You can transfer your characters as a single morph (that's what I do) or you can transfer all of the V4 morphs you have, and dial in the settings manually. In your case, since you like to mix and match characters, you might want to transfer all of the V4 or M4 morphs...

There are also free morphs out there... lots of them!

    I like your David pic.

I must be doing something wrong somewhere. Here's a test comparison I ran last night. First I took a look at the default Andrei texture in DS and then upgraded it to UbS2. Then I ran it up to 200P/s LuxRender just to see how it looked and to have a baseline to compare anything to. I don't think this is the best we can do, it's just a point of reference. Then I manually installed the materials and used the modified setting you posted on the second one and ran it up to 200P/s. Not liking what I see, compared to the baseline he seems way to 'volumey' I think I must have something fundamentally borked to get such different results

In #2, it looks like either his GTA (glossy translucent absorption) scale is too high, or the bump is too high. If you left the Freak settings on, which had GTA scale at 1.0, this will be your problem. Lower it to .4 as a good start. Make sure the bump maps are not higher than 0.002 as well. Maybe 0.003 at the most. Is that Michael 4 in your pics?

  • Where are My Download Links

I'm having a problem with new system: when I go to the Product Library, the order number we get in the top corner of the product page is not always right. In particular all my M4 products have the wrong order number listed and lead lead to the wrong order page.
It happens, I think, because some products are part of several bundles and products (like Michael 4 base and morphs++ I got additionally with Carrara). While I got M4 Morphs++ with Carrara, later, the initial purchase was different and much earlier.

I would greatly appreciate of you allow several order numbers to be listed if product is obtained from several sources.

  • m4 morph problem

I create a poser scene with a working head morph for Michael 4, all is well.
I import the scene into DAZ 4.5 everything is ok except for the Head which has reverted back to normal m4
The morph and its slider are listed but do not work. I slide the parameters dial of the morph and either
it immediately slides back or does nothing.
I have recreated and reimported the scene a few times still no luck.
    Thank you in advance

  • Genesis/M5 and M4 Creature Creator Add Ons?

I was wondering if people have had success with using the M4 Creature Creator Add On product with Genesis/M5. I know that there's a new creature creator product for Genesis, but it doesn't have the paws and tails like the old M4 one. However, I also know that M4 morphs often aren't entirely compatible with Genesis or M5.

So I suppose my question is, if I get the M4 Creature Creator Add On and try to apply it to M5 or Genesis Basic Male, will it work? Or will I need to tweak things? And if so, what will I need to do to fix it? I did read on another thread where someone had some trouble with the add on, but they didn't say exactly what went wrong. I'm hoping the problems are easy to fix and I won't need to buy Genesis Generation X to make it work.

I'm using Daz Studio 4.5. I don't have the Michael 4 Creature Creator Morphs product, but it doesn't say it's required to use the Add On.

  • The basics of Daz 4.5 characters.

Generation 4 (Michael 4, Victoria 4, etc) with Genesis
    - Skin textures: mostly yes, there are alternative UV maps in Genesis that take Generation 4 textures, be it Michael 4 or Aiki 4
    - Morphs: no, unless you use an expensive external Gen-X plugin.
    - Clothes: mostly yes, through autofit although not all clothes convert well
    - Footwear: mostly no, even if some flat-sole boots convert better than high-heels and SickleYield made an additional converter option, for autofit, shoes conversion still isn't giving a very good result
    - Poses: yes, with tweaking. Genesis has few extra-bones (abdonmen 2, for example) that won't let original Gen4 poses to convert 100% but the result is usually close
    - Expressions: I think no, didn't check
    - Hair: mostly yes. You don't have to convert, you can use any cr2 or hr2 hair as a prop, parented to Genesis hair and adjusted;
there is also an autofit option but it isn't always working well, especially if elf ears morphs are involved

    Generation 3 (Michael 3, Aiko 3, Victoria 3)
    - Skin textures: no but you can use expensive external Texture Converter 2 program to convert them to Generation 4 textures and use on Genesis as regular Generation 4 textures above.
    - Morphs: no known way. You can replicate some of them with Generation 3 Iconic Shapes for Genesis product and new Genesis morphs but the direct translation isn't possible.
    - Clothes: same as Gen 4, through autofit, and you must have Iconic Generation 3 shapes for Genesis product for autofit to get those options, but only Freak 3, M3, V3, Aiko 3, Hiro 3, SP3 and David 3 can be converted so no Luke and Laura conversions.
    - Footwear: same as Gen 4, through autofit, you must have Iconic Generation 3 shapes for Genesis product for autofit to get those options
    - Poses: same as Gen 4, with more tweaking
    - Expressions: I think no, didn't check
    - Hair: same as Gen 4 and you must have Iconic Generation 3 shapes for Genesis product for autofit to get those options

    Generation 2 and 1
I don't think anything is convertable from there. I can still use hair from Gen2 as a prop hair for Genesis.
There was, I think, 3D Universe expensive external plugin to convert Gen2 textures to Gen3 so theoretically it is possible to use Gen2 textures on Genesis through two conversions but that program is no longer sold.

  • The basics of Daz 4.5 characters.

As it said most of Genesis figures aren't separate figures but morphs (like for Generation 4, Freak 4 and Hiro 4 were morphs for Michael 4 - Genesis takes it one step further by combining male and female (monster, childred, faeries) into one extremely morphable figure.

Genesis can use Generation 4 textures but not morphs (without a special and pretty costly plugin), so any Elite textures you had will work just as good on Genesis.

There is a couple of Elite textures for major Genesis "figures"
    http://www.daz3d.com/stephanie-5-elite-texture-joanie
    http://www.daz3d.com/michael-5-elite-skin-texture-dave

As for morphs, you can pick up your own. Must haves, I think, are Genesis Evolution (head and body) but after that everything is pretty much up to your taste. I like this morphpack extremely but it isn't by DAZ3D and somebody else might like something else better. I also like Creatures and Muscularity and Ethnicity but you might not have need for either. I also like new Aging morphs by Zev0.

Aside of free morphpack that wancow mentioned, there is often overlooked but excellent RamWolf's morphpack as well as some free aging and alien morphs

Poser dynamic clothing and DS dynamic clothing are indeed two different animals altogether.

I don't know how the DS cloth room works, but the Poser cloth room has lots of different options, once you get used to using it, and you can get the clothing to truly fit the figure, and also simulate things like wind etc

In the main the only free dynamic clothing you find will be for the Poser cloth room.

However Martin (Optitex) does have quite a large catalogue of free stuff at his own site.
    http://www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/FreebieDownload01.php
    Which is for DS

Ok, thanks.Funny thing is, I downloaed some of the Optiplex stuff you suggested, but same problem - when I try to load it on to a figure (a Michael 4) it appears somewhere else in the scene and I have to manually move it over to the figure, rotate etc until it roughly sits on the figure.

    Why is that?

Also, do I drape the garment it when the figure is in the neutral pose (arms outstretched) and then pose my figure? Or the other way around. Sorry if there'a a video about this, but I can't seem to find one.

Dynamic clothing is intended to move dynamically. The practical upshot of this is that your PC will need to calculate how the garment will move with the character, and will accurately depict wrinkles and the like in the process. For that reason, the clothing begins in a static unmovable form. The dynamics are entirely controlled by the plugin which can be added as a tab.

Usually dynamic clothing comes by default in the T-pose. Position it over your character as best you can. It doesn't matter if there are minor poke throughs as the drape will handle a lot of that. Once done, use the draping tool from the Dynamic Clothing tab and the clothing will settle onto your figure. If you then animate your character into a pose (and yes I do mean animate, even for still frames) and run the drape, it will calculate the movement of your character from its original T-pose into the final pose you wanted, and the clothing will flow realistically with the figure.

Incidentally, Poser's cloth room works in a very similar way, with the exception that any object can be transformed into a dynamic cloth rather than specific items.

  • Skydome and lighting

If you look in the Scene pane a prop will have a simple perspective cube icon next to it, after the eye for visibility and the arrow for selectability. A figure will have a stack of three cubes, their drawing style depending on whether it's a TriAx figure like Genesis or a legacy figure like Michael 4, and the children of a figure will have bones next to them while any children of a prop will also be props.

    Such an awesome idea!

    - - -

I noticed that they are intended for Victoria 4, Michael 4, Aiko 3 and Hiro 3.

I asume it would be quite tricky to make them work with Genesis?
Or could they somehow be applied when the V4, M4, A3 and H3 default shapes are used?

Nevermind I just read the fine print on the screenshots and saw that V4 Braces fit the default Genesis!

Maybe it would help some other users when that information is also added to the product description.

    I will experiment with them.

    Added to cart.

Thank you so much for this! :-)

Hmmm....must admit when I saw no genesis fit on the product page that I skipped buying them.

Matty, do they fit to genesis and follow the shapes or do they need to be manually adjusted?

I really like the idea of braces but only use genesis these days...

    Cheers

Though you could probably use them, to an extent at least, on Genesis if you rigged them with the Transfer Utility - load them into DS, with Genesis also in the scene, then go to Edit>Figure>Transfer Utility..., select Genesis as the source, select Clone as the Source shape and then pick Michael 4 from the list, select the shirt as the target, click the More options button, and check Reverse Source Shape from target, then click Accept.

I find that whenever I load dynamic clothing (e.g this http://www.sharecg.com/v/52005/browse/11/Poser/Dynamic-T-Shirts-for-Michael-4) that it doesn't load on the figure, but somewhere else in the scene. Also, it doesn't always show up as something you can drape in the Dynamic Clothing tab.

Anyone know why? Can Dynamic clothing not be fitted to a figure? So far, I seem to have to move the clothing roughly onto the model and then try to drape it, but usually it looks rubbish

  • Animation Tools for D|S

I'd like to start this thread, basically it's going to be my wishlist for Animation tools... first on my list is Key Mate and GraphMate, which is the traditional Key Frame Editor available for D|S... (both essential for Animation, IMHO, especially if you want to do things like design walk cycles)

But I do have a question: is there, or has anyone ever spoken of a Walk Path tool for D|S like the one that Poser has?

    Anyway:

KeyMate, Traditional Key Frame Animation Toolset:

GraphMate: Spline Editor companion to KeyMate

aniMate2: Uhm... not sure I understand what it is this does, but it looks interesting... never played with it...
