  • ...End of line: Updated - Dead as a Doornail

    >> I have a new drive (and one for backup) on the way (courtesy of a generous community member here)<<

Heh, that was extremely generous considering you have a video card that most of us can only dream of having. We do have some very kind and sympathetic members here.

On a more related note, I think remaking your characters will probably improve them. There's likely no one in this community who has remade their characters more times than I have - I've recreated a single character at least 12 times that I can remember and have done it on V4, Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, and as of yesterday, Genesis 8 - and I do feel that she gets better with each new rebuild. I'm sure there is a lot that you lost that cannot easily be replaced, but you might get some satisfaction from remaking your original characters with the added experience and new tools/figures that are now available.

One advantage I've discovered of using the Genesis line is that because we have to buy the same essential morph sets over and over (which is not a good thing, but), your character settings can be reproduced very well from one generation to the next. Even Zev0's morphs are the same between Genesis versions, and I was able to almost perfectly reproduce my Genesis 3 character with Genesis 8 once I had everything I needed. I know you don't want to have to upgrade to the latest figure, but at the very least, writing down all your morph settings will come in handy down the line.

  • Create a morph on geograft on posed character

I don't think that's possible with a geoGraft as the vertices have to line up exactly, which would be unlikely usign Reverse Source Shape from Target in the Transfer Utlity (and if you don't use that then the fitted figure won't take account of the chnages and will be treated as if it was meant to be that shape on the base figure). I supose you could try setting it up as a regular conformer using the Reverse Source Shape method, then take that back into your modeller and snap the vertices around the graft to those of the base mesh (and make any other adjustments needed), then update the fitted item to use the modified mesh, and finally set up the GeoGrafting.

  • FIX THE PELVIC DISTORTIONS - SOLVED -

It's not the only way to get there  -you can also put the link manually in teh 2nd Stage (Multiply) section in the Hierarchy Editor to achieve the same result (because multiplying by 0 gives a zero value for the morph).

Ok Richard! Great! Follow your steps and i let you know!

Note: ERC Freeze I use only after rigged to shape and when fixe teeth and before to save the morph. So no need after this step right?

  • Morphs from G3 to G8

Load G3M and G8M (or G3F and G8F) into your scene.

In the surfaces pane, make sure both figures have the same UV set, eg. base male.

Favourite the morphs you wish to transfer by clicking on the heart icon in parameters. It works for head and body and individual morphs but not character control sliders.

Open the transfer utility and choose your source and target figures.

In show options,  select UV space and uncheck *everything* else except Morph targets, from source - favourites.

Click accept and your morphs should transfer over.

You’ll still need to set limits on your new sliders, adjust rigging to shape and save the morph assets, and the lashes can get messed up from G8M to G3M but the other way round works pretty well.

I tried this method today, except for the last step, I don't know how to do that.

I got some great result, however, the arms didn't work, my G8M arms look thinner than the original G3M, maybe I'm missing something? Everything else, the legs, face and body morphs were transfered like I expected. Please help, I'd really appreciate it.

  • How to adjust hair and clothes to hang, rather than cling

Another option, if there isn’t a good morph and dForce won’t work, is to use a deformer. Harder for the clothing case, but would be relatively straightforward for the hair, I think. Use a weight map to limit the deformer to the ends of the hair, then maybe x/y scale to move it outward away from the neck.

  • Create a morph on geograft on posed character

Hi. I would like to make a new morph on a geograft object that will make sense only if you pose a character and use other morphs. On default pose and morph you will not see what you have to change. But if you pose and morph it to whatever you need - there is very annoying artifact that I want to get rid of.

I tried as usual and looks like my morph was stretching the whole geograft's vertices on some axis. I've searched the net and, again, looks like it is something with some 'delta' and some 'inverse deformations' and even some 'shape keys' in Blender.

Is there a tutorial about this workflow using 3dmax or maybe ZBrush? Particularly export-import. This topic is the hardest and weirdest in DAZ. In some cases you have to hide some parts, in other - use default pose, other - all zeroed. Is there a spreadsheet that I can check every time I want to export-import DAZ models to whatever and vice versa?

  • Morphs from G3 to G8

Is this still going on? Where can I find the script? I wanna transfer my previous G3M & G3F characters to G8.
    Thanks in advance.

Crosspost with Singular Blues. Best you get info from the source so edited this out :)

  • Converting obj to Conforming Clothing

Yes, the JCMs (if any) and the precise bones would depend on the figure used - the general technique should be applicable to other figures, though. Skin weights come from the Transfer Utility.

  • FIX THE PELVIC DISTORTIONS - SOLVED -

When you use ERC Freze, if you do, there's an Attenuate By option - set the cotnrooler to the morph and the attenuator to the bend or vice versa (using the morph shoudl make everything save with the morph) and the correction will kick in only for the bend and the morph together.

  • FIX THE PELVIC DISTORTIONS - SOLVED -

Hey Richard! Everything works great! I modelled the JCM corrective and loaded via Morph Loader Pro into the left leg, then change name of the JCM from  ...85-L to ...85_R then Mirror Swap X and it is on the right leg. Works well! The complex step is done! Now ... the easy step! When I save as Morph Asset the FBM including the legs JCM corrective I less my JCMc like never saved! There's nnothing inside the EERC Freeze of the FBM when is zeroed pose, while when legs up I find ZRotate (side side) that maybe are the base corrective from Daz. Probably I forget something while saving! What?

One more thing; the JCM corrective act on the FBM right? So, when I dial to 0 the FBM and back to G3F I see a trace of the corrective. How to back at zero both figure G3F and JCM corrective?

  • Character Creation Questions

Ok, I have one more (hopefully) question.  I have saved the shape, no prob.  I saved the material preset.  But my save path was messed up for the that.

Does anybody know the default path to save the material preset in?  I want to create the proper folder set for it, but I can't figure out where it goes.

Good grief, creating the right paths for all this is harder than making the character!

hahah Yeah, getting the files set up just right can be a pain in the bottom. You can save the materials preset a few different ways either under "Presets" >> "Materials Preset", or under "People" >> "Genesis 3 Female" >> "Materials" or if you want to set up your character so that she has her own folder that's also an option "People" >> "Genesis 3 Female" >> "Characters" >> Your Characters Name

Personally I'd set up the character with her own file - like the last option I listed. You can set up her shape preset(s) there as well as her materials presets and any other options you might want to provide with her. Having her shape and materials settings all in one place is more convenient and usually easier for people to find.

If you need help setting things up feel free to PM me.

When you go to share the files you'll also need to provide people with the "data" folder that has the morph saved in it. The data folder should be set up like:

data >> DAZ 3D >> Genesis 3 >> Female >> Morphs >> "Your vender name/the name you saved it under" >> "Product name you saved it under"

  • Character Creation Questions

Uh-oh, Houston we have a problem.  I exported my morphed character as an obj, then tried to load it in using Morph Loader Pro.  I got to the part where you choose the morph files, choose a "catagory" to put it in, and then I press Accept.  But then I get this message saying it failed.  Any idea what I did wrong?

Oh that's Genesis 3 Female - I've not done morphs for that figure (I've only done morphs for G8). I'm not sure if there's something specific you need to do but I think I recall there being something about G3 lashes that might cause morph issues.

Are you sure that you're exporting the morph at "Base" resolution and with nothing else attached (like fibermesh brows, clothing, or hair)?

Aha!  That was the problem - I forgot to set it to Base before I made the morph.  Now it's working!  Thanks again, Divamakeup, you are so awesome!

Oh good! I'm glad you got it worked out. :)

  • How do HD add ons work?

    Well yeah, obviously! :P lol

What I meant was how do I apply the HD stuff to the character? The way I understood it, Rune looks like Rune out of the box. But then there's this handy dandy HD Morph product that you apply to her that makes her look more realistic. Does simply downloading the HD Morph in DIM apply it to the character or do I have to select her and apply it somehow? I'm not actually at my computer anymore or I'd be digging around instead of bugging the board. I'm just hoping to know what to do when I get home instad of stumbling around trying to figure it out. The product page didn't have any instructions and this my first time using an HD Add On

    Thanks for any help! :)

there should be a Rune HD parameter slider

I don't own Rune but that is the case for other characters

  • How do HD add ons work?

You should find a second "Actor" in Smart Content under Figures - People - Female - Real World  called "Rune 7 HD" (the original is just "Rune 7"). If you load that version of the figure it will have the HD stuff applied.

Alternatively if you already have a Rune-based character in your scene and just want to "HD" it then in the Parameters pane you should find a Rune 7 HD morph slider you can apply (I don;t have the Rune HD Add-on myself so I;m not sure where it is, but I do have some other HD Add-ons and they work like that).

ETA: If you follow the second paragraph, you may need to increase the Render SubD level like Richard mentions - I believe that if you load the HD character directly that will already have been done.
