  • New Blender Hair System and Converters

    benniewoodell said:

Oh wow, that looks fantastic! The simulation looks so great. Whenever I try to simulate hair, nothing stays settled, everything is constantly moving every which way, I'm excited to try out this new addition!

Hi, I should point out that the hair sim was Houdini, not Blender... the new API is just so that we can import into Blender's new hair system from other software because I was lucky enough that the right Blender People attending SIGGRAPH this year. This is actually the exact same data from a sim I did a long time ago for the old particle hair system. I haven't even scratched the surface of what the new system can do with Geometry Nodes.

  • DIM issues with fresh OS installation

To avoid future disasters, copy the Manifest Archive, export UserData, copy any user files, and, for a quick way to backup your CMS database (the path is shown in the DIM setup), just zip the whole folder structure and copy it.  All to another disc, of course, or the cloud. (You can restore metadata, but it can take a very long time, unzipping in place might take maybe a minute or two).

  • DIM issues with fresh OS installation

All is not lost. If you still have the original zips, you can re-install all of the content fairly easily (I understand that it should go quickly since the content is still intact, but I could be mistaken). The manifest file it comes with is a record of availability, not the installation. That is in the other manifest file (confusingly with the same name, but in a different folder). If they are lost, they are lost and there is no way to re-generate them other than re-installing. Doing that will also restore all your metadata into the Database, but not any customization you did (i.e., custom categories, additions or corrections to metadata). If you have saved UserData from the Content DB Maintenance utility (saved in the Runtime\Support folder with the rest of the metadata files), you can restore it by using the Re-import Metadata option, selecting only UserData (if any). Getting the Thumbnails back is fairly trivial, just retrieve them as you re-install.

I never use smart content or metadata, only the content library in DS.

That is my concern with DIM, right now it has a path to the default install location in saved scene files, but that will change with the new PC, so will that affect my saved scene files I already have?

No worry ~~ as Richard mentioned, as long as you correctly re-configure the path(s) of your 'Daz Library' in DS - Content Directory Manager on new PC, there won't be any problem when opening saved scene files.

Fingers crossed since I did just that on my last PC and was unable to open any of my saved scene files. Then again,  I didn't use DIM before on that earlier PC (manually installed)

    Thanks for the info all

  • How to include custom scales in shape preset?

You don't have to save a separate Pose Preset... you may save a Properties Preset with both Shaping and Pose but you need to select the sub-nodes that you've scaled.

Well, the optimal way is to export your customized figure to OBJ file and import back as a Full Head / Body Morph.

  • gltf glb animation export

I am stumped, how does one export an animated glb or gltf file from Blender?

I have a perfectly good Alembic import of a Dforce clothed animated figure in Blender thanks to TheMysteryIsThePoint's Sagan which I want to export to Twinmotion (or view in Windows 10 3D viewer) but Blender only exports a static file even though I checked all the different animation options.

I am sure I have done this before with gltf files I downloaded off the web

(Twinmotion did not do animated imports back then only Unreal Engine did)

but for the life of me cannot figure out what I am missing

sadly all my other gltf files were on my deceased external harddrive so cannot test those in Twinmotion or the Windows viewer for comparison, not gotten as far as setting up Unreal Engine since my Windows reinstall yet either

I cannot see any keyframes on the timeline even though the figure is moving so wondering if there is some action I need there? Does the animation need to be baked some way?

( I tried cache file in view as assumed abc would have keys for that but what do I know)

  • Help With Creating a Merchant Product

Yes, you can but for such a 'sliding' rather than 'draping', it'll be cumbersome to make a natural result with dForce... I'm a Blender user so I prefer to a cloth simulation there. Or, you may simply use a Scale on X axis, export to obj and import back as a control dial on your 'cloth door'.

  • Genesis 8.1 raises model's arms 90 degrees, causing the model to become misaligned

There's a 'wrong weight' on Left Shoulder Bend - YRotate... As the sweater you made has a loose armhole and a sort of should pad around the collar, you may see, with Left Shoulder Bend - Front-Back -110 degrees, the weight around the armpit is not enough while the weight on the left collar is a bit much. The root reason is that the default weight transferred by TU won't work well on this garment, or did you use some specific projection template when using TU?

You either tweak the weight or directly fix pJCMs. I'm also a MD user. In most of the similar cases, I fix them in Blender or via GoZ because that is fast and with good result. You may also export the 'pose' as a Morph Target to MD and re-simulate the garment, then import back to DS to fix the pJCM.

I ever made a similar top with armhole drop, more or less the same case like the one you have. I fixed 'pJCMShldrFwd_110_L' in Blender as below:

  • Daz Studio 5 development update

Just to throw more speculation re the subscription route can anyone tell me why there are  of references to assets and HTTP/ URL  in the change log

    • Source maintenance

    • Fixed issues with the “Info Page” of the “Information Panel”

      • An asset that provides a relative URL in its authorship data would be treated as a keyword instead of a URL when clicked (i.e., filter by keyword vs open URL)

      • Selecting a different category in an associated navigation view would not clear displayed asset information

      • Clearing selection in an associated container/asset view would not clear displayed asset information

      • Clearing selection in an associated container/asset view, raising a different pane in the pane group, then raising the original pane caused information for the first container/asset in the view to be displayed

      • The “No Selection” text could end up being presented as a hyperlink

    • Fixed issues with the “Tags Page” of the “Information Panel”

      • The “Apply Changes” button is now enabled only when an asset is selected

DAZ Studio : Incremented build number to 4.21.1.97

    • Source maintenance

    • Fixed an issue with the User Parameters brick, in Shader Mixer, that prevented connections involved in dynamic hiding of enum parameters

    • Fixed an issue where display of the New Scene dialog was not immediate when triggering the New (Scene) action

      • In-app notification areas now display a busy indicator until/unless responses to asynchronous HTTP requests for in-app notification data/resources are received

    • The New Scene dialog now utilizes a persistent cache for all online in-app notification resources, regardless of type

      • In-app notification data is fetched each time the New Scene dialog is displayed

      • In-app notification resources (images) are fetched if/when the cache is stale

    • Updated SDK version to 4.21.1.98; SDK min is 4.5.0.100

    • Added an “Update Metadata” option to the login frame/dialog

      • When checked, previous behaviors are maintained

      • When unchecked, automatic synchronization of metadata upon login is disabled

      • When unchecked and logged in, the Connect > Update Metadata… action will prompt

Some options might be already availabe under Windows, but not all. I'd lilke:

    1. 64-bit Mimic to match ther 32-bit implementtion. I've read that they don't have a license a built-in 64-bit implementation, but DAZ was able to sell 64-bit plug-ins for Carrara and Lightwave as well as create "Mimic Live", it would stand to reason that while they may not have a license to give a 64-bit version away for free, they could obviously sell a plug-in instead.

    2. The ability to import multiple sound files and play them back to help time lip synching with multiple characters in a scene; it's not available in the Mac version, not sure about the Windows version.

    3. The ability to output a movie file with sound on the Mac version.

    Ok, thank you very much!laugh

And for wrapping, generically, two key success factors to bring you the best result: keep the floating geometry as close / aligned as much to the target mesh; equal or higher resoluton level on the floating geometry.

Yes, it what I tried to do, I first used the G8 morph to make the G8 character as close as possible to the MH one. I think I will try again after make eyes to be closer: I didn't modified them before to import the G8 character into Blender, and they a quite longer than the MH character's eyes. Who knows, may be it could improve it?
Well, if it doesn't work, I guess I will have to give up the Blender shrikwrap...

Thank you very much for your help, anyway!

  • Problem in scaling armature in blender export

Thanks! I'll look that, but I really need IK.

I've been using workaround, where I export another figure from DAZ, without morphs, but with correct dial setings for armature altering morphs. Then I import that chracter to Blender and use it's armature in meshes armature modifier.

It works, but has drawbacks. I can't delete the original unused armature or other dublicate stuff or driver keys disappear from morph list. I don't know what brakes down or is it even possible to fix it.

  • I'm having a problem with finger distortion in DAZtoC4D

I exported the character through DAZtoC4D.
However, when I try to move my finger in C4D,
As shown in the photo, the fingers are distorted as if the weight is strange.
So, when I imported the character again, only one finger was distorted out of several fingers.
If you import it again, the character will be loaded in a slightly better state.

I wonder if the best solution to this problem is to keep trying until all elements are loaded correctly.

There is no problem with the character's fingers in DAZ.

I await knowledge from many people.
