Oh my!JoeMamma2000 said:Dartanbeck said:Try bringing your Daz Studio and Poser made video's to an interview to get hired as a professional 3d artist somewhere - but do keep you personal feeling about the matter at the door, because they're about to be shredded..Oh really? How many times have you tried to get hired as a professional 3D artist somewhere? Has this happened often to you?
For it is to laugh! This is so freaking funny - JosephOkay, so some people don't like drawn butter with their lobster. Okay... I got it!
I'm really glad to hear that you've hired some folks using the "Diamond in the Rough" method. I do that, too. Works great sometimes... sometimes not. But I like to be more open than the straight forward "Apply if you qualify for all of the requirements listed below" sort of thing.
But, yeah. I only heard it from a few people, truthfully - just to muse to your question. In my defense, however, they were the people who hire for their respective companies, none of which worked at the same place. Lead Modeler for Sony is a good friend of mine who started his career straight out of high school. The company that started him off hired him over the unfinished (but pretty sweet) game that he was creating, and posting his progress online at school (well, school's web forum). The company was one of the big 'uns in the game industry at the time (likely still are - but I don't follow that stuff) and his first project with them was a huge seller. It was only a few short years in the biz before he was heading up the character modeling departments wherever he worked. Sony had him doing the lead character modeling and much of the design work for PS3 prior to release - like the Prince of Persia title, amongst many others.
Before I get long winded here, another guy worked with BioWare, another I'm not sure who paid him but he was designing some CG stuff for Space travel technology. Those three were all willing to hire me if the relocation would be acceptable for me - which it wasn't. Nor did I want the job, truthfully. Otherwise I'd have moved! lol But that was because they saw what I could do just with G-Max, during the time when 3DS Max was in version 5. Funny thing is that it is those folks who turned me on to Poser in the first place. I was talking about how I'd love to hobby my way into making my own movie, all by myself - but how long it would take just to create all of the assets on my own - which is what I was doing for them. Fitting and adjusting UV maps, creating bipedal models rigged to their spec, making items that they needed for their projects - it was all gaming assets and I did it for fun.
3DS Max is an amazing piece of software. Now that I'm running myself through the actual, official campaigns of Neverwinter Nights and all of its expansions, I'm using the Rosie appearance assets that I made for myself - just for fun - on my main character. The hair and blouse blow around in the game wind as well as during movement. Ooops - getting of the subject... oh yeah... I said that wheat toast tastes best if you butter it before you apply the jelly - and you thought that I was misleading people by that. Well, I would apologize - but... edited out.
Anyways, yeah. Joe's right. There are exceptions.
I do Poser style animations because I like them and I enjoy making them. I have given up Poser for Carrara because it fits my fingers better. But I'm still using the same content that I would be using if I were still animating in Daz Studio or Poser. So what I said to get Joe's mom's son all upset, applies to my Carrara endeavors as much as my Poser and Daz Studio films did in the past. Does this mean that there is no possible way for me to land a job creating animations the way I do? Absolutely not. What I wanted to prepare you for, is the fact that many CG industry companies rely on their lead staff members to help them grow. Many of the people put in charge of hiring modelers, animators, texture artists, etc., are looking for people that create their own assets using tools that resemble the tools used in their industry. I know people who are pros at using Maya and 3DS Max, who have no problem, whatsoever, with people using Daz/Poser figures. They tell me, and I have noticed, myself, that they are fairly rare in their crowd. At one point, it even made me feel almost as if the guy using Poser content was the guy riding up to a biker convention on a scooter. Nothing wrong with it, but not accepted but by a few.
Besides. If you want to get a job at a place that wants you to make your own assets for them, show them what you can make. If what you make then goes into Poser or Carrara or Daz Studio to render it out, I doubt you'd have a hard time. But if you're trying to land an animation job at a game house, they're usually not interested in what you can make Michael 4 do. Game companies need their people to know how games work. Even if all you do is animate, you still need to know how to build what it is that you are putting in motion - almost guaranteed. Joe might hire you... but I wouldn't plan on getting into Bethesda with an aniBlock dance routine.

pwGhostTransfer Textures Between Different UV's ( e.g. Genesis )blacksmith3d said:Does it create textures ( e.g. jpg images) stretched to fit the new UV mapping, or is that just to change the UV set from one to another?Dave
Genesis uses multiple different UV sets which you can swap between. The mesh remains the same, but how it displays textures can be altered to suit the textures you're using on the figure. By default, Genesis supports Gen4 textures including Victoria 4, Michael 4 and the Kids 4. It also includes a 'Genesis' UV set which as far as I'm aware isn't used.Additional UV sets include Victoria 5, Aiko 5, David 5, Michael 5, Hiro 5 and Stephanie 5. Unfortunately, these UV sets are only available with the relevant products bought from the store, and textures purchased for any of these figures cannot be easily converted to use the default UV sets.
Individual surfaces can use their own UV sets, but obviously you get best results using the same UV across the entire figure because of seams. With this in mind, it's not very feasible to use multiple textures across different types of UV without some form of texture conversion. I own a copy of Texture Converter 2 by 3D Universe, but it's quite old and only supports the Gen4 series. However, it does come in handy for converting certain maps where there are no equivalents.
Morph Loader error using blender: "One or more of the files loaded had no effect. See log for detailI followed the directions on this page to test out making a morph in blender and importing it back to DAZ:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/6728/
I am able to get it to work with the genesis model. However, for every other model I do this on (such as michael 4), it gives me a pop up that says "One or more of the files loaded had no effect. See log for details." The log will contain something like:
Reading michael stick blender.obj
Morph Loader reported no effect for the following file(s):
E:/-/stockphoto/71 michael stick/michael stick blender.objI noticed that with the m4 model that when I imported it into blender the normals were inverted. It doesn't seem to make any difference if I flip them or not, DAZ always says the obj file has no effect.
The morph I'm doing on the model is to warp an arm or something using the sculpt tool. It works for genesis but nothing else. Is there a way around this?

I already owned everything in the bundle from previous orders, but the bundle's product page didn't indicate that and I didn't discover that I had everything inthe bundle till after my purchase. Had to file a support ticket for a refund.
Just starting out, advice?Genesis is free, and there is a good variety of free Genesis products out there. There are more freebies for Victoria 4.2 (V4) and Michael 4 (M4) (they've been around much longer than Genesis), but fortunately most V4 and M4 things are usable with Genesis (you can use skin textures, clothing will AutoFit--though results vary, and hair, poses, and props can all be used but may take some manual tweaking).
Regarding your issue with the gray Genesis Female...is it happening with everything, or just Genesis? If it's happening with everything, that may be the result of your DrawStyle being set to Smooth Shaded instead of Texture Shaded. Click on the icon that looks like a gray ball (it's at the top of the viewport area, next to the views and cameras dropdown), and select Texture Shaded. Hopefully that will make the texture come back.
If it's only affecting Genesis, are you sure you have applied a texture?
Can't use Gen X full versionYes I am going to the genesis figure and then putting the Michael 4 morph at 100 in the editor tab under shaping. After that I try applying my head morph I made and it ends up looking strange and nothing how it did on M4. I also can't find any option to change the UV set to M4 in under the surfaces tab. There are a few other options there, but the M4 UV option isn't

If you have generation 4 (Victoria 4/ Michael 4 / Girl 4 / Aiko 4 / Freak 4) there are products to help you use them with Genesis. V4 and M4 have a separate one from this one btw. So, you download and install- what then? I asked, and fixmypcmike whizzed in to help. Find out here: (and there is also a question about the files, which are weird-)

DigitalPainters 3DPaint Brushes SamplerCararra 8 Bundle itemsHi, I have bought and have the programme downloaded, but can't seem to see the items below that are said to be included in the bundle. There are dozens of scenes, objects, etc loaded, but not the ones below my sig. Or do I have to download them all separately? WHERE do I put them...in the Cararra folder inside DAZ Library in My Documents or in the folders area where all the above scenes, objects, etc are now in the progrramme directory? There's no folder existing under the Objects tab for eg People, there's just New Models which is empty. I was reading the Walk Through but am still very confused.
Also for Content folders where there is none at the moment...are the directions I am reading in various places meaning that I am to just click on that folder icon on the far right and point it to the Runtime/Libraries folder for either/or/and Poser 9 content and DAZ content that are in My Documents folders? Will the models (without shaders, etc) then be avalable to me if compatible with C-8?
The documentation I originally got for Cararra seems to be dated 2007, is there a more up to date version someplace? OK found manual above. Wish DAZ would get rid of that old link you get after buying it and put this one up!
ETA: When I see the bundle and click on any product in the library, it has a green icon for DIM...but I can't get these products to show up in the DIM. I learned that Cararra had to be manually downloaded, so did that OK...it's the bundle content that is making me nuts. Sorry to be so confused, but the DAZ site keeps crashing today.

Victoria 4.2 BaseThe dynamic clothing uniforms for M4You are using Michael 4, not Genesis with the Michael 4 shape? Dynamic clothing doesn't autofit. it also doesn't take morphs, so you are limited to the base figure and morphs that will fit inside the clothing (it's like real clothing in this respect, except there's usually only one size on the rack).
question about used characterLooks like Gabriel to me. The features are distinctive.
How does Freak 5 SWOLE helps you fit Freak 5 to the Freak Optitex Dynamic Clothes in the DAZ storeIf you want to use Optitex Dynamic Clothes with the new Genesis Freak 5 you might want to get Freak 5 SWOLE.
http://www.daz3d.com/freak-5-swoleAs you might notice all the available Optitex Dynamic Clothes for the Freak 4 in the store comes from yours truly so when I started planning on the Freak 5 SWOLE product one of the things I wanted to do was give the Freak users a base to fit their Freak 4 Optitex wardrobe to the new Genesis Freak 5. So I took in consideration that:
1-The default scale for Freak 5 is much bigger than Michael 5 while Freak 4 and Michael 4 scale difference looked much more realistic.
M4 Elite Body Shapes & Required productspxpmedia3d, it is possible to use M4 (Base) plus M4 Elite Body Shapes without also owning M4 Morphs++. That's what I have at the moment, actually. I do agree with chohole that M4 Morphs++ is pretty essential if you want to use Michael 4 a lot...the only reason I don't have his Morphs++ is that I don't use him very much (99% of the time I use the Genesis figure). The Elite Body Shapes don't actually require you to have Morphs++. However, waiting to get the best bundle on sale is probably a good idea.
bravedwarf.israel: The character you linked to is a character for Victoria 4 AND Genesis, which mean you need either:
a) Victoria 4.2 Base and Victoria 4.2 Morphs++, or
b) Genesis, V4 and M4 Shapes for Genesis, and Genesis Evolutions Head and Body Morphs. In terms of using Caitlyn with the Victoria 5 shape instead of the Victoria 4 shape for Genesis, that's not how the character was intended to be used...you could do it, and the results might look good, but the resulting character would look different than in the promo images.
M4 Elite Body Shapes & Required productsM4 morphs will only work with M4. So yes you will need to have M4 if you want to use the Elite body shapes. THe M4 base, is just that, a base figure. Morphs++ is a must have additional purchase to really use M4 to his utmost versatility. THe elite body shapes are an additional package which can be very useful
M5 is himself a morph package for Genesis ( the base figure which comes with Daz Studio 4.5), and thus can only be used in Poser by using the DSON importer.
THe best way to buy M4 is to look for a bundle package and (hopefully) a sale offer on it.
This is the starter bundle http://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-complete
This is the Pro bundle, which has more clothes and things in it http://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-pro-bundle
And if you feel extremely wealthy, this one is the best buy of all, as you can see by what is included in it
http://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-3d-model-pro-suiteSales do happen quite regularly, it is often best to wait for a sale.
M4 Elite Body Shapes & Required productsI apologize for sounding so ignorant about this but can anyone answer these question for me.
I use Poser Pro 2012 for my DAZ3D products.
I want to use M4 but am not sure if I should be buying M5 instead as I do not have a Michael figure. I have seen a lot of very decent 3rd party products for M4 which are not available for M5. Would I be wasting my investment going with M4?
Do I need the Michael 4 Base and the M4 Body Morphs++ to be able to use the M4 Elite Body Morphs package? Or does the M4 Base already come with M4 Elite Body Morphs?
Finally, I also use V4 for my female characters but I want to use M4 as a male character instead of using Poser males. All of my V4 characters are morphed with the V4 muscle body morphs packages. Would there be any advantage changing over to Genesis instead for creating realistic muscular male and female characters and with Poser?
Thank you
