    Hey Scott,

I wanted to enter the image below with a character I created for the October (It is Halloween themed) Freebie Challenge (not entered), but I ran into a couple of issues regarding the rules when I was checking all the data:

    1. I can't find the texture info for a link. It is an old V4 Zombie Texture that I believe was a freebie I picked up somewhere. Possibly ShareCG, but I can no longer locate, and fear it might not be available any longer.

    2. I used (free) included version of Michael 4 Clone converted to M4 Shape via D3D's DSF Toolbox, as opposed to the purchased M4 Shape. Can I link to DSF Toolbox for this resource link instead with notation?

    3. I created a couple of custom morphs (just two), and I read that if I upload them as attainable freebies I can list them, so I will do this if you will accept my entry if the first two issues can be resolved.

The image was already rendered (DS Pro) a while back, and minor post work used to composite layers rendered, and new cropping.

    *Title:

    "Mmmm... Brownies"

    *Character Name:

"Brownie Monster" (Sesame Street has the Cookie Monster, so I present the Brownie Monster. I know, not as cute...)

Cool creature! To help you resolve your issues...

    1. You should link to the texture used if at all possible. But if you can't find the link, and include what information you know (as you have done in your post), and otherwise follow the contest rules, I would allow the entry.

    2. Yes, that sounds fine.

    3. Correct, if you upload them as freebies you can use them.

As far as it being an old render is concerned, if you did not previously post this image, you can use it, but if you did post it elsewhere, you should re-render the scene with minor changes at least. (If you did previously post the render, but you feel that your recent postwork changes should qualify this is a new image, can you send me a link to the older posted image?)

You can install to your Poser Pro 2012 Content, which will be in your own or the Public Documents folder in a folder named Smith Micro by default, or you can create a new folder for the figures, install to that and use the folder with a + at top right of Poser's library panel to add that folder as an external library.

No. Set up an external runtime and avoid searching through any public documents for content.
Give it a name like "all external runtimes" or something similar. Then the first thing you want to do
is copy any version of poser.exe into that folder. You only need the one file - don't install poser there.
Then inside "all external runtimes" create one folder - and call it runtime. That's it, just the exact
    word "runtime."

Then open that folder. Then create a folder called victoria 4. Copy victoria 4 and all her character
accessories like morphs++ and etc. to the victoria 4 folder. Highlight them all at once, and extract
them right there in that folder. I use winrar to extract stuff.

Do the same for michael 4.

Go back into poser and add each runtime: victoria 4 and michael 4 individually.

Now you have an external runtime, you don't have to search for your stuff somewhere
in Daz's documents, and you can make categories for all of your other content
    in there too.

And daz can access your content in this folder too.

This is what I do and it works great.

Nice render - the rain looks great! I've been using two and three layers to try to give the rainy effect more depth. It seems to help.

  • Your most used content

I do a fairly large number of SF images...

Courageous (and its unimesh fits, which you might not need with Genesis) and Valiant have been re-textured into so many different outfits that they're pretty much staple outfits. These are $1.99 each if you're in the Platinum Club.

Stinger is a handy small SF air-space craft. $16.95 on its own, or free-with-purchase in the Anime Star Fighter bundle (which also includes the A3 base character, in case you're interested in seeing the differences between the old-style characters and Genesis).

Multiplane Cyclorama is a handy backdrop for quick renders. It's another $1.99 Platinum Club item.

Moving from specific to general suggestions, you can't go wrong with pretty much anything by Stonemason (scenes that set the bar for everyone else), Sickleyield (clothing), maclean (the master of "set dressing" props), or Jack Tomalin (scenes and props).

  • why do i get no facial expression previews? cannot get facial animation to work

    @kitakoredaz
Thank you very much for stepping in, you have made a valuable contribution, and I think you were more help than I was :-)
    @boiledcandyfrog

As kitakoredaz says, it is possible to make your own Aniblocks for Genesis, but I think you need the paid for version of Animate2, and not just the Lite version that comes free with DAZ Studio.
All of the previous Aniblocks were made for V4 and some for M4, these are Generation 4 figures, and are a completely different model to Genesis, and they have different rigging, and a different kind of rigging as well. Genesis use the new weight mapped rigging, and the older Gen 4 rigging is now called 'Legacy' rigging.
As kitakoredaz says, we need to know what figure you intend to use. There are toon figures available in the store, which are morphs of Genesis, so can be treated the same as Genesis in most respects. In that case, the premade Genesis Aniblocks should work, since the base mesh has not been changed.
If you are thinking of using one of the other toons, like Sadie or Sam by 3DUniverse, then I think you would need to create your own aniblocks from scratch, unless there are any animations available for these kind of models, maybe on ShareCG?

ok so is genesis alive another plugin then that I need to buy?

This is the link to the Product Page for that item : http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-alive But there are required items for it as well!

what is morphs++. is it a product? I cannot find it in the store. do I need to install this?

do I understand correctly that aniblocks was not designed for genesis then?

I am mostly interested in doing cartoon animation using purchased cartoon characters from the daz store.

Morphs++ is a set of morphs for Victoria 4, and there is another one for Michael 4 too, but if you are only using V4, this is all you would need, but it is a long and involved way of using V4 aniblocks, andd there must be better ways.
Aniblocks are generally for V4, at least the older ones are.
If you can explain a bit more about which characters you are planning to use, I'm sure we can help more.

Also if you then re-apply any textures, you'll need to set it back to M4 again as it "forgets", unless you lock the UVSet to M4 (little padlock symbol beside it).

Thank you MelanieL for your quick reply!
That totally did it and I'm looking forward to working with this Character once again!

Took me a little while to figure out what you were talking about as I'm getting used to DS instead of Carrara

For others new to the process,
    1) Select your Genesis model
    2) On the Surfaces tab Select Editor
    3) Select the Genesis root node (so all the regiens are modified at the same time)
    4) Scroll all the way to the bottom to UV Set
5)Select Michael 4 from the drop down menu
    6) Lock the UV set with the pad lock icon.

    Thank you again MelanieL.

Personally, I would prefer more outfits that don’t show so much skin. I’m doing a sci-fi comic book (Max Rogers) and I want the women to be attractive yet conservatively dressed, but I had a hard time finding a decent space uniform. Most of the uniforms showed so much skin, and it was just ludicrous to think that any military officer or space cadet would wear such outfits in real life.

Hope this list might help inspire some ideas. katfeete posted this awesome set of useful links in the Members-only section and let me repost the list here. The majority of links are from katfeete unless otherwise noted. Also, I'll add in the additional links from the thread.

    For Genesis**
    GIS*
Supersuit and the Supersuit Boots and Belt*
    Space Age Behemoth
    Marauders* (armor)
    Galactic Corps Defender (armor/spacesuit)
    The Time Traveller
    Creation Engineer
    G.O.D. Bodysuit (free!)
    Suggested by scorpio64dragon:
    Future Wilderness

    For G4
The New Adventure V4 (the bodysuit being the useful bit, I suspect. There’s some kind of M4 expansion as well)
    Complicated Eve V4
    Cyberpunk M4
    Spacedweller M4*
    Suggested by SereneNight:
Captain Runner its for m4/h4. It is quite generic but versatile. This might not suit a female officer since the groin region is more of masculine fit.
The New Adventure Continues This is the male version of new adventures, plus I prefer the cut of the female top in this in the renders I’ve done.
    Mas bodysuit by Xurge"
    suggested by zigraphix:
ToolBoi Complete M4 at RDNA (pretty pricey)
    M4 Air Crew Set
    From Poserworld***:
    - Galactic Oligarch M4
    - Space Fleet Officer V4 (borderline, but with a pair of pants it could be an acceptable tunic)
    - Catsuit V4
    From Royloo:
    - T2 Armor for M4 and V4 (free!)
    - Trooper V4/M4 (armor)
    From EvilInnocence:
    - Security Officer M4 / V4
    - Commander V4 / M4
    - Admiral V4 / M4
    - Lunar Research Scientist V4(stick some pants under this and it would work pretty well)
    - Communications Officer(needs pants. Badly)
    - Nurse V4 (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PANTS)
    - Code 51 Shirt V4 (yes, I know—but check the third promo; with the opacity map off the front it’s actually quite modest)

    For G3
    DE Mariner Uniforms
MOS Liberator V3 / MOS Invasion M3 (armor)
    Major Cache M3 (armor)
    Marauders M3 (armor)
    M3 Space Suit*
    M3 Sci-Fi Outfit
    Orion-735 M3
    Starbrigade Elite D3
    DP-Colony Nyji Pack for A3
When Tomorrow Comes V3 (there’s a V4 version as well, but for some reason the cleavage on that one is much more ridiculous)
    Links suggested by SereneNight:
The Scout For M3 The scout is an interesting uniform, might be useful for a dry hot planet. This is a m3 item, I would love ported to Genesis. It has a nice look, but lacks detail when rendered.
Xurge3d also has some great outfits for Vicky and Michael. AdamR has done some tremendous job of editing them to have some daz material presets.

    From Poserworld***:
    - Intergalactic Commander M3/V3/Apollo
    - Comic Book Spaceman M3
    - Space Fleet Officer M3
    - Flightsuit 2005 M3/V3/D3/S3/Apollo
    - M3 Fantasy Outfit
    - Space Fleet Officer V3/A3 (again, a decent tunic at least)
    - Scifi Officer V3
    - Jade Escada V3
    - V3 Scifi Suit
    From Royloo:
    - Trooper D3 / A3 (armor)
    - JA01 (Jacket only? Probably) for A3 / M3 / V3 / D3 / S3
    - JA02 Jacket, Pants, and Boots V3 (there are S3, D3, A3 and Girl versions of all three pieces too but there is a limit to my linking patience)
    - Explorer Jacket V3 / A3 / D3 / M3 / S3
    - EMW R-Gear M3 (there’s a V3/S3 version as well, but the girls did not rate pants)

    Notes:
    * indicates a PC or Value item (yay!)

** If you are using Genesis I highly, highly recommend picking up SickleYield’s Rigging and Morphing System. Aside from the increased quality of conversions for the lower two-thirds of this list, it’s amazing how much better and less, um, unprofessional outfits for the ladies look with her breast bridging morphs in place. Seriously worth your money.

*** For those that don’t know, Poserworld is a subscription site—pay a flat fee, download all you like. There’s a bunch of modern day military/medical/cop uniforms from them that I tend to rob for parts as well.

  • Clothing in DAZ is total BS

Your trying to justify ripping people off.

    Not really.

It was from the dawn of Poser, well before Daz Studio or DAZ3D at all existed, that conforming clothes (so called because they've conformed to a figure) only fit a specific figure they were created for. Doesn't matter if this is Aiko 3 or Posette or Don or Michael 4 - Aiko 3 could wear only Aiko 3 clothes, Don could wear only Don clothes, and so on. It was like that long before DAZ3D as a business even existed. "One size" never fit all in conforming clothes.

To fit the same conforming clothes to different figures, a vendor should have do something called refit. It was a manual, very long and very tedious process, taking a lot of vendor's time and effort, usually for very little return or thanks and to a quite alot of wailing "why didn't you do refit?!". Vendors don't have to work for free (they are people who sometimes earn a living from doing Poser content and their time and effort aren't charity) and because of that refits were few and far away.

In times of third-forth generations of DAZ3D figures, came refit utilities, most knows of which are Wardrobe Wizard (currently in second version AFAIK) and Crossdresser (currently in forth version) which simplified the process quite a bit.The drawback of automated refitting was lower quality and most of customers for those programs were not vendors (because the result of conversion was not suitable for commercial release anyway) but usual users who could tinker with refits in their free time.
Automated converters allowed users to substantially increase the usability of the same outfit for newer/older figures, or refit outfits from supported figures for undersuppoted ones. Thus it wasn't ripoff but a direct opposite: a helper to allow people use their previously purchased outfits to fit to other characters. Yes, utilities were never free themselves (Wardrobe Wizard 2 cost about $60 on initial release, if I'm not mistaken), but people who made them also deserves some returns for their time and effort, as I believe.

Whatever you figures are, I'm pretty sure a Crossdresser has a license for it and you only need to purchase a license for figure you convert TO, i.e. Aiko 3, for example. Wardrobe Wizard 2 required both licenses From and To.

Genesis, being a triax figure, came with a free version of automated crossdresser utility, called Autofit, which allowed to fit some clothes to Genesis (only) from some other DAZ3D figures. Genesis can wear most of Generation 4 clothes, or Generation 3 with related Iconic Shapes morphs. Again, it allows people to extract much more user from previously owned content - a lot of people have huge Generation 3/Generation 4 libraries and thanks to the Autofit they don't have to toss them away or rely on a very slim chance that somebody would manually refit those huge libraries of clothes for Genesis. Backward comparability here, at my personal opinion, is amazing. Some outfits (like Lily dress) are released in V4 and Genesis version, because a lot of people still prefer V4 and V4 content works better with non-Genesis clothes refitters like Wardrobe Wizard and Crossdresser.

Currently, new Poser boasts the ability to make any figure wear any clothes but as I don't have it, I can't speculate on quality of such refits.

Now, there are also dynamic clothes and those are completely different kind of thing.

While DS dynamic clothes remain more or less figure-specific, due to technology used for it, Poser dynamics room with some tweaking could fit almost any dynamic clothes to almost any figure and even "clothify" conforming clothes with the same result. If you master Poser clothes room (from Poser 5 and up) you could make any figure more or less wear almost any clothes. Unlike DS dynamics, Poser dynamics are truly "one size fits all". Why DAZ3D never implemented such handy and useful mechanics was never explained, but I believe it is because Optitex (the high-quality engine for DS dynamics) was initially used to make real-life clothes and never meant to work on anything as flexible as Poser/DS figures. Stupid choice for DS? Maybe, but hardly malicious.

You are aiming for the 20 Ken, another great one. DAZ Studio 4.5+ is in my experience much more stable than Poser.

Absolutely! I told Luci I was going for it, and I am! And I think I just hit the limits of a 32-bit application. (Checked the performance monitor, and I was using 4.1 GB of RAM - and with 32 bits, 4 GB is all there is!) Live and learn.

    Anyway, for my next pull....

    306 - Classic Casual for SP3
    175 - Bistro Miami
    1200 - Metal Madness
    1825 - Svana V4
    ...and the LB Bonus:
    2063 - M4 and V4 Skeletons

Uh, I really don't know what to say about this, other than..., well, actually, not even that!

I want to thank Totte for the inspiration - when he mentioned opera, I knew exactly how I wanted to play this one.
The 'Janice' is in honor of Janice Baird, one of the most brilliant Wagnerian sopranos I have ever had the joy of hearing!

    Also Used:
    Branwen Hair for V4
    DMR Lynette
DMR Briana's Culaith (used the thong, because Svana goes 'commando'!)
    Donna hair (SP3 Fit)
    David 3
Charming for David (with Prince Charming textures)
    Michael 4
    M4 Tuxedo
    Rock Star Hair

Title: At the After-Party: Die Walkure Meets Die Wierd-O
Kyle (in Tux): "A bravissima performance, Janice, as always!"
Janice: "Thank you, Kyle. David, why did you bring that thing along?"
David: "What, Yorick, here? Well, he doesn't get out all that much these days, so...."
Janice (to the Goth chick): "And just what the hell are you staring at, Morticia?"
