Victoria 6 has been released.Hellboy said:Can someone explain this again?:
Why would a new user should pick Genesis 2 over Genesis?
Or why me as a Genesis user would spend on Genesis 2 and the content needed to get (some of) the basic functionality of the original Genesis?I mean, I can see the big disadvantages of Genesis 2 compared to the original Genesis, but what does it offers to compensate for them? I’m still missing it and the thread got long.
I don't think anyone is supposed to pick Genesis 2 over Genesis. As I see it, Gen2 is just a new figure, just as Victoria 4 was, Michael 4 was, Genesis was. There is room for both Geneses in the runtime. I do think a new name should have been chosen, as someone else mentioned earlier in this huge thread. This Gen2 is not Genesis. She does not look like Genesis Basic Female, nor the androgenous Genesis him/herself. It's another character to add to the arsenal that will, I presume, eventually have Aiko, Stephanie, Julie and other female shapes added. It's not often that I want to mix Aiko with Michael, so the gender split does not bother me. I wasn't following the forum during the V4 and M4 era, when you could suddenly dial V4 into A4, S4, Girl4, She-Freak4, etc. Was there a big fuss then, too? And, as I recall, you had to buy a unimesh fit package to make most of the older clothes fit universally. Same thing is happening here, but we've all become spoiled with the one mesh fits all idea.
As for the missing "basic child" morph, maybe there is a reason for that we have not thought ahead to... like new child figures, separate male and female, to go with their respective Gen2 bases.
Since Genesis 2 is a different mesh, with more polygons, there is no way to make all of our Genesis morphs transfer over to Genesis 2, even with Kattey's very clever method. We can approximate, much the way GenX does with Generation 4 figures to Genesis, but it will never be exactly the same. And if you try to move 1000 head polygons with a morph that was designed to only move 650, it isn't going to work especially since those polygons (vertices, actually) are not in the same 3d space. We should be no more upset that Genesis morphs don't work on Genesis 2 than we should be that they don't work on Aiko 3 or Stephanie 4 or Jasmin and Mavka (non Genesis versions).
And autofit is really not that bad. Come on. Shoes, yes, horrible (though some do transfer ok), but most of the clothes don't transfer any worse than they did with Autofit from Gen4 to Genesis.
I know it sounds like I'm trying to dissuade anyone from being angry or feeling "duped" for spending money on Genesis, only to now have Genesis 2 with nothing beyond base functionality. Fact is, I don't regret anything I've spent on Genesis because I still have Genesis. And I don't see vendor support going away anytime soon for such a fantastic figure. I have a product I am working on for Genesis that I just tried out on Genesis 2 and it works very well. It won't take much for me to add functionality to the product for Genesis 2. I think the same might hold true for other vendors, so maybe we give it a little time and see what they decide to do as far as compatibility and updates or upgrades. I just think it's a little too early to start lighting the torches.
I do, however, think it was inconsiderate of DAZ to hold off announcing that they were even working on another generation of Genesis, so that we, the buying community, could decide whether to spend money now on the multitude of sales and great deals, or wait and spend our money on Genesis 2/Victoria 6. Personally, I rarely ever use my V5 and had I know about V6, I would have waited and bought her instead, new Genesis 2 mesh and all. Why do I need/want 4 Victorias? I don't. I don't even want that many Michaels or Aikos. Well, maybe the Aikos because they have changed greatly over generations. Older Mikes and Vickies are kind of ugly now when you see them next to Gen4 and Gen5. But I have them anyway so that they are available should I need them for content creation. But ideally, I want one Vicky, one Mike, one Hiro, etc. Genesis let me have one figure and still get all the cool difference between each generation of characters without cluttering my runtime or my Figures folder. Love that. Genesis 2 will do the same, but maybe better. Love that, too.
I really like Genesis 2, but she will always be number 2 to me.

From a customers perspective I assume that new content for a software should have to work with ALL basic features of that given software out-of-the-box. And have been tested to death against that softwares basic features before it got realeased. Even if it's free content. Okay, that's some brand new content in that case, and there are times when someone overlooks something. But that's something that really shoudn't happen.Another thing that bothers me, since we're just on topic: aniBlocks.
It just doesn't make very much sense (in my opinion) to pack up things together as basic content that's either outdated or doesn't work well together... or even not at all (f.e. the several "v4-blink", "BrowSqueeze", *whatever* aniBlocks).Like the basic Genesis figure and the aniBlocks created for Victoria and Michael 4. It couldn't be THAT hard for a professional to find out the differences between their skeletons' values and adjust them that they will match better. Since Genesis is DAZ's new "workhorse" for some time now, I'd expect that basic content should work together properly. Again, that's from a customers perspective.
And where was it that you downloaded the new Genesis 2 base figure?
Confusedcrossmlk said:OK, I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around People in DAZ. Specifically what works with what? Victoria 6 is listed as Genesis II compatible what exactly does that mean? What is the difference between Genesis I and II? Then we get to what stuff works with each of the people. Can anyone point me to something that explains all this? Hopefully in an easy to understand way. Thanks.
I will let the experts handle the finer details and the Genesis II questions, but basically there are multiple figures (such as Victoria 3, Michael 3, Aiko3, Victoria 4, Michael 4, Genesis I, etc.) and items such as clothing, hair, and poses were designed to fit those figures. The product pages should list which figure(s) a product is designed for.
For a specific figure such as Genesis I, there can be multiple shapes (such as Victoria 5, Michael 5, the genesis troll, etc.) that can share some products to a certain extent depending on how different the shape is. If you have questions about compatibility with specific products, ask until you get the hang of it and somebody will help you out.
Although products may be designed for one figure, SOMETIMES it is possible to use it with another figure with more or less success. For example, Genesis I can use a lot of materials designed for V4 and M4 (with a parameter setting). While hair for V3 isn't technically supposed to fit Genesis, it is often very easy to simply reposition and slightly adjust scales to get it to fit close enough. A hat could probably be easily fit to figures it wasn't designed for. A skin-tight outfit probably can't. There are also products to allow you to attempt to fit clothing designed for one figure or generation of figures to a different one, such as GenX. (Haven't had a chance to play with this much yet.) Some products will convert better than others.Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials: something very important missing!...... and that's a matching .dmc file for Lip Sync.

Genesis 1 or 2?Daz studio comes with Genesis, Genesis 2 and Victoria 6 has just been launched but is only a female, the base female and a Genesis 2 starter essentials package should have been added to your downloads.
Victoria 4 and Michael 4 came before Genesis.
Stuff from Genesis 1 will not work with Genesis 2, although there are add ons you can purchase to help convert clothes and textures the clothes conversion is far from satisfactory. Texture from V5 need to be converted to DUF before they can be used on V6, but there aren't that many around anyway.
M4 clothing can work on M5 when converted via autofit, but its not always 100% successful, character packs the texture will work but the morphs won't unless you use GenX to transfer them and you will need the M4 Morphs ++.
If its clothing if you link to the things you are interested in I might have them and can show you how well they will convert.Problem with Jepe's KennyTankred said:How do you change the UV map?Select Genesis, on the Surfaces tab select all surfaces, near the bottom of the list is UVset, change it to Michael 4
Genesis 1 or 2?A few days ago I downloaded and installed DAZ 3D Studio 4.6 and I'm seeing talk about Genesis 1 and 2 and I can't seem to find out which one I have. How can I find out which version I have? Also, will all of the content that's available from DAZ 3D work on both Genesis 1 and 2? I'm new to this and I see most content will specify Michael 4 and Victoria 4.2, But I'm also seeing newer stuff that's for Michael 5 and Victoria 6. Will the respective content for older Michael work with the newer Michael, and the same thing with the different Victorias? I'm finding a lot of the content I like for Michael 4 and I'm concerned about it working with Michael 5, and also if that stuff will work with Genesis 1 & 2 (if have Genesis 2).
Thanks---Bob Ryan.
Transferring Morphs from Genesis to G2M/G2F and from G2M/G2F to Genesis (Now with Clones!)Transferring Genesis Morphs to G2F (including gender-specific).
This is an updated version of the first tutorial. This tutorial presumes that you already have OriginalGenesis shape and adjusted rigging as explained in tutorial above (post #7 of this thread).
For this I need Genesis 2Female Essential (free), DS 4.5 (free and probably the process will work in DS 4.6 too), My Genesis (Genesis 1, with those many morphs I have).
I will be transferring Michael 4 morph which I got from Iconic Generation 4 shapes from Genesis.
1. Load G2F, set it to Base Resolution and 0 Subdivision
Dial Original Genesis morph (that you made before) 100%.
Export as Obj (only Ignore Invisible Nodes are checked, everything else is unchecked). I used Hexagon scale (1 unit = 1 cm), on 100% scale. Scale of import and export should be consistent from now on, but I suspect it can be any scale.
I exported it as G2F Original Base LR.obj2. Load My Genesis into DS 4.5. Don't adjust anything.
My Genesis is then set to Base Resolution and 0 Subdivision.Delete G2F figure.
3. Load G2F Original Base LR.obj with a proper scale.
4. Open Transfer Utility. Select My Genesis as a Source. You can leave Shape as Default or set it to Current.
Select G2F Original Base LR.obj as a target. You can leave Shape as Default or set it to Current.a) Projection Template None
b) Show Option: Leave everything checked as it is (don’t know if it is important), but select Morph Targets.
c) With Morph Targets Selected, check Source Morphs (it is important) and uncheck Projection Template Morphs (don’t know if it is important).
This time I didn't use Use Near Vertices method. You can try with it.d) You don't need to select 'Reverse Source Shape from Target' this time.
Uncheck Fit to Source Figure for your comfort. Don’t add smoothing modifier yet.
Click Accept.5. Wait until it is done. It might be a lengthy process, depending on how many morphs My Genesis has.
6. After it is done you should have a a lot of morphs in your newly made G2F Original Base LR figure.
They are may be messy, with no proper Shape categories, so I used search selector to find Michael 4 morph and dial it 100%Delete My Genesis from the scene or make it invisible so the only visible figure on your scene is G2F Original Base LR figure.
Make sure it is Base Resolution and Subdivision 0, with no smoothing modifier.7. Export M4 adjustment shape as obj, on the same scale as it was comfortable for you before. I got G2F Original M4 LR. obj
8. Load G2F back on scene.
Dial OriginalGenesis morph to 100% (it is important)9. Open Morph Loader Pro (in my DarkSide layout it and Morph Loader Advanced have the same icon, MLP located below MLA).
Select G2F Original M4 LR.obj as a loaded morph.
The scale of import should be consistent with a scale of export before.Name the morph as something nice, say G1 M4
Under Property Group right click and Create new property group. Select Actor and in a line under type Actor/Male (or any other hierarchy you'd like). Later you can just select it as a already existing Property for all your male characters.Make sure that Reverse Deformation is checked as ‘yes’.
Leave everything else like it is.
Press ok.10. Now you have a morph :) but your job isn't yet done because it requires ERC freeze.
By itself G1 M4 morph doesn't look male because you need to have OriginalGenesis morph dialed 100% in conjunction with it for best likeness.
Also, original M4 on Genesis used 103.1% of default scale. It is possible to make it same for G2F and also make new M4 morph like that but for simplicity sake I'll go with just 100% of M4 morph which would make this M4 a bit shorter initially (but we can easily fix it later).
Also it is possible to make M4 morph in G2F that that will work in automatical conjunction with Original Genesis morph but again, I'll omit it for simplicity here.To make Bone Rigging adjustment and ERC Freeze do the following:
(thank you very much, niccipb, for making initial tutorial)a) Dial down to 0% Original Genesis morph, so you'd have a very muscular G2F with G1 M4 morph set to 100%.
b) Select G2F in your Scene lab and right-click on the tab header 'Scene'. It should open an useful menu where you click
Edit -> Rigging -> Adjust Rigging to the Shape.(For better visualization you can have Joint Editor selected to see bones in the figure).
After Adjust Rigging to Shape panel opens, you usually don't need to do anything but can click Accept (but sometimes you may use Adjust Orientation in case of some other morphs).
[For very drastic shapes (Brute, Infernal Behemoth) some manual bone adjustment via Joint Editor might be needed as well.]
c) Open Property Editor tab with your G2F still selected.
- In this tab find and select your G1 M4 morph (it is important)
- Right-click on Property Editor tab header, it should open a menu.
- Select ERC Freeze.
- Figure and Node are Genesis 2 Female (your figure)
- Property in our case G1 M4 (our adjusted morph)
Everything else should be already selected but you need to uncheck Restore Figure Rigging (it is important) and click Accept.
Now the bones should follow G1 M4 shape and don't mess with OriginalGenesis morph.d) Dial down G1 M4 morph or Zero Figure, so you are back to initial G2F base shape and rigging.
11. When you are happy with how everything organized, save your morph as File -> Save As -> Support Asset -> Morph Asset(s)
For me it saves it into \data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 2\Female\Morphs\AdditionalMorphs folder on hard drive. For other morphs, repeat steps 6 to 11.
12. To make full M4 likeness in G2F dial Original Genesis morph 100% and G1 M4 morph 100%, and set figure scale to 103.1%
I don't have any male textures that work with G2F in DS 4.5 by some reason so I painted them both gray and put purple bikini on G2F so proof that it isn't same Genesis :)
Some notes.
It is possible to make G2F morphs that automatically use conjunction with OriginalGenesis morph and scale/proportions through ERC freezes, but it requires a couple of more actions. I'm not entirely sure how to do it myself but I think you basically you dial/scale your M4 entirely with two morphs and scale, use ERC freeze and create new controlling properly in step 10.c instead of using existing one.I don't DS 4.6 installed so I might not catch the subtle rigging differences between G2F in DS 4.5 and 4.6. I also have no idea how it poses in DS 4.6. Can anybody with DS 4.6 try that process and say if anything is messed up?
I’m still also not sure about fingers. They seem to curl and pose ok for me in DS 4.5 but I don’t know how they supposed to be posed in DS 4.6.
I'm also curious to see how Genesis/previous generation clothes would fit G2F in DS 4.6 (I can't do it in DS 4.5)
For subtler morphs, like Finesse Details you might want to set morph value for export in step 6 as 150% of more to boost up the details a a bit, depending on what you want.
Expressions, pose controls and everything that affects inner mouth might not work properly.
Pictured is Genesis with M4 Iconic Shape (left) and Genesis 2 Female with Original Genesis 100% and G1 M4 100%, scaled 103.1% (right). Same G2F pose and same Genesis gray preset applied to both although they rendered differently due to different default shaders.
Carrara and Genesis 2Answering to 0oseven:
In fact the non-beta version of Carrara does not support Genesis.
As a curiosity, if you go to the "Products" section of the website, you will find three separated ambits:
- "Scene and image creation" featuring Content marketplace: 3d models and content for Poser & Daz Studio as well as Daz Studio Pro.
- "Animation" featuring Carrara Pro and Daz Studio Pro.
- "Modeling" featuring Carrara Pro and Hexagon Pro.The description they give for Carrara pro is:
Carrara is a complete 3D authoring suite that provides advanced tools to help you get your work done
And for DAZ Studio:
Design amazing digital art with this popular 3D figure customization, posing, and animation tool. Also, according to the product pages:
Compatible 3D software for Michael 5: DSON Importer for Poser, DAZ Studio 4.6, DAZ Studio-
Compatible 3D software for Victoria 6: DSON Importer for Poser, DAZ Studio 4.6
Compatible 3D software for Michael 4 base and victoria 4.2 base: DAZ Studio, Poser
Also or Michael 3, Vicrotia 3, Stephanie Petite and David 3 they only list Poser & daz Studio as the compatible 3D software.A last experiment:
Search "Victoria" or "Michael" in the shop and you will find 4231 and 2025 results respectively. Do de same but selecting Carrara as compatible 3D software and you will find 45 results for Victoria and 26 results for Michael.I think that they should emphasize more the compatibilty with Carrara...

I can't imagine vendors will do both versions, G2M & G2F, for the price of a single product. So the more cynical might suggest that it's a neat way to increase profits for 'you know who' at very little overhead.
Given that they have reverted to a male and female base format, its not genesis at all anymore. Genesis was the notion of a unimesh figure, whose selling point was all clothes hair etc works for any gender! Now, have you read the new marketing? "The male and female specific bases not only allow for more masculine and feminine figures, but allow clothing to be designed more specifically for one or the other, rather than having to fit both. " Oh, that's the dead opposite of what they said about genesis 1 only then THAT was the selling point; that it could use any clothing! Its such a total flip flop as to be laughable in terms of taking that statement seriously. Its like selling mark 1 of a car and saying, "tired of changing tires? this car comes with unbreakable solid tires, no more flats!" and then selling the mark 2 and saying, "and what's great is, the air-filled rubber tires feel comfy as you drive!'
That said, those of us who buy male figures and products will surely see a severe drop off in support. Early indications of me being right? THERE IS NO MALE FIGURE.
You should probably calm down, it's not as serious as you think.
It's good that the female model comes out first, as they tend to shake the platform bugs out on the females first... then the male sees the improvement.
I have the same concerns about support, however we're not dealing with Michael 4, where vendors did a lot of work to fit clothing to him and got little return thus not much got made for it. G2Male will have the same ability to get clothing fit on him easier, so it may not be a bad situation as you think. We'll just have to see.
While not happy about the split in figures, I do want to have the best male figures possible. And though I can't say, it's probably not going to be that hard to get clothing between the two figures once the male shows up and mixing morphs won't be all that impossible either.
Meanwhile I haven't forgot about M5 (go buy Wynn now that there's no G2Male yet... We're not redoing him for M6 and you may want the skin), and I still have some projects left to do before I even look at the next gen.
Sorry, not spending a penny on genesis items as now theyre obsolete. If I buy more m5 stuff, theyll just release m6 and nothing will work with him.
Lol, they're not obsolete, quit overreacting.
To be honest both are going to have their uses. Gen2 will most like be for more gender-specific items as Gen 1 will be for more flexible items. I don't see giving up my Gen1 stuff as not everything will make it to Gen2 and I can use them both in a scene.
And I'm not going through another year of updating characters, so not many of my store will see a revamping just for M6.

I hope you'll check out the comic. I think you'll like it!Just a note for galatica1981 and others who did the download and then found that the CBZ format wasn't supported by your system..
The Comic is stored in the CBZ format. However, it's a series of full page JPGS. To read the story easily you don't need PDFlite or anything special. Everyone should be able to do this.
1) Change the CBZ extension to zip. (MaxRodgers.cbz to MaxRodgers.zip)
2) Make a folder for it.
3) Unzip the contents to the newly made folder. Any unzipper will do. I use Winrar.
4) Open the folder with your favorite graphic viewer and enjoy this young man's offering.
I used the Windows slide show to read his story. It's exactly as he stated above. Rather PG-13 in rating.
I tried doing this and it didn't work. When I changed the extension to zip the file still opened like a CBZ would.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?

#2721 Ron's Detail SmokeConfused with all the different models (Gen, M4, M5...)DAZ3D models come in 'generation', each generation marked with number - like 2, 3, 4.
In generation 1 and 2 each figure (Victoria 1 and 2 and similar Michael, Stephanie, Aiko) were a separate mesh with separate morphs and somewhat interchangeable textures but cross capabilities were very limited.
Generation 3 was first "unimesh", - while each figure was still a separate figure, all textures were more or less usable on each of figures and there were tricks that allowed to use morphs from some figures on others. The first officially released Freak, Hiro and David, Laurie and Luke (I think) are generation 3, and sometimes '3' is omitted, so if you see "The Freak" it mostly means The Freak of generation 3. Each figure could only wear clothes that were made exactly for it unless special crossdressing programs (limited at that point) were involved.
Generation 4 had only three actual meshes, - Victoria 4 (female mesh), Michael 4 (male mesh) and The Kids (child mesh). Those meshes are derived from each other but the rigging of each was different. It means that all textures at this generation were interchangeable and morphs could be transferred between meshes with much less hassle and better results (although not one-click anyway). Aiko 4, Stephanie 4, She-Freak 4 were morphpacks for Victoria, The Freak 4 and Hiro 4 were morphs for Michael 4 (there was no David 4 by some reason) and there were numerous morphpack that could turn Victoria 4 into believable male (Vittorio, Morphia) or Michael 4 into believable female (Michaella, Morphus). Each 'main' figure could only wear clothes that were made exactly for it, i.e. Victoria 4 could not wear Michael's 4 clothes without help of programs like Crossdresser. There were rare some clothes that were made for Aiko 4 as for default morph but Victoria 4 could still wear them with some adjustments.
Genesis is a generation 5. It is one default figure with previous and new 'figures' made actually made as morphpacks (i.e. no separate mesh or separate rigging). So Victoria 5, Michael 5 and Justin and Julie (new teens) and everything 'generation 5' are only morphs for Genesis and can be combined as you want them. In addition to his own textures Genesis can use textures from generation 4 via switchable UV layout function and has its own morphs (although there is a trick and/or also a costly utility to transfer morphs from Generation 4 and 3 to Genesis). There are also additional morphpacks for Iconic Shapes Generation 4 and Generation 3 that makes Genesis into close likeness of some of those older figures.
Genesis can wear any clothes designed for fifth generation with no problems, and through the function called "Autofit" can somewhat wear Generation 4 and (with Iconic Generation 3 Shapes morphs) some of generation 3 clothes but not all clothes autofit well, with shoes, skirts, anything with ghost bones and free-flowing scarves having the biggest problems.
Through all generation hair is, probably, the most freely swappable thing. Particular Genesis hair sometimes needed if you have extreme head shapes like toon or monster, but for human-like heads you can use most of the haircuts for any figures on any figures, although sometimes it is hard to adjust, say, Michael 4 hair to Aiko 3 head.
It looks like one would need to purchase game license only if the meshes are distributed, otherwise basic license is sufficient, right ?
You right. As long as it is 2D image or prerendered animation (like a movie) you don't need game license. I believe you can even 3D print your models without it.Confused with all the different models (Gen, M4, M5...)Michael 4 (otherwise known as M4) is one of the generation 4 figures which came out before Genesis. He, along with Victoria 4, have completely different meshes to Genesis and to each other, meaning they cannot generally share outfits or accessories. However, Genesis comes with 'clone shapes' which allows it to use the older generation outfits to some degree.
Daz Studio will attempt to automatically convert outfits designed for these earlier generation figures when placed on Genesis via its autofit function. To use autofit, simply try fitting an outfit to Genesis that isn't normally designed for it and you'll get the autofit box up. Here you tell it what figure it was originally designed for, and the type of clothing it is. Click the Accept button to have your outfit of choice shrink-wrapped around your lovely Genesis figure.
Once converted to Genesis, the outfit will morph and scale along with the figure perfectly fine. Problem areas include shoes however, and especially skirts since these often have their own unique rigging for skirt movements in earlier generations.
Also, to clarify, any renders or animations produced using Daz products can be used or sold freely however you see fit. Anything involving the meshes, you are correct, or textures cannot be redistributed in a game without the Daz Indie Game License.
