  • Can't get this to work

Hi folks, me again. I have not been having much luck getting stuff I buy to work here. They seem to have ways to do it but none listed with the products. I just bought this and it does nothing. It just sits there when I apply the morph. There are no added dials that I could find. I click each pose and nothing happens. Once again I am lost as to get something to work. I got the Dforce hair to work after lots of help here, that was rediculous not to show how to get it to work. So...maybe someone can tell me why this will not work either.

  • Save a combination of morphs as a single morph

I have created a Head shape for G8F using X-Morphs, various face and neck morphs and Zbrush morphs I created myself. I want to combine them all in to a single morph and be able to use that as a dial which I can then apply (at whatever % I want) to other G8F figures. I want the new dial to be available whenever a G8F figure is loaded.

I will NOT redistribute the new morph, so there should be no copyright issues.

So, could someone talk me through the process?

PS, The X-morphs script has a Combine Tab, which is supposed to be able to to do this, however, when I select the G8F figure and run the X-morphs script, selecting the Combine tab shows no morphs to combine. When I go ahead and use the spawn morph button anyway, a dial is created at 100% (and zeroing it removed the morphs I have created) but when I close the file and load a new G8F figure that new morph dial is gone.

  • DS & Titan RTX

First let me tell that I find this discussion very interesting and useful since it seems to me that you're a competent and to the point reference. So thank you.

RTX acceleration has to do with the speed at which an RTX supporting card is able to complete whatever graphics workload it has in front of it. Which in the latest round of testing in Iray-like software looks to be an average of around +300%.

I wasn't aware that Octane can use RTX already. It is a shame that NVLINK seems to be not working yet, so I guess it's a work in progress. Thank you for pointing out this information.

What happens when the speed at which the CPU can transfer new tile data to the GPU is significantly slower than the speed at which the GPU is able to fully render those tiles? Because that is what I'm talking about here.

If that will happen then OOC will not be usable anymore. The whole point to OOC technology is that rendering takes much more than texture transfers. That's what's happening with the current cards. If RTX will change that it's to be seen. If we consider that with GTX the performance drop is 10-20% then it means that texture transfers take about 10-20% of the rendering time. Now if RTX increases the rendering performance by 300% then we get a 30-60% performace drop with OOC. So yes in this case we loose a lot. Unless we can speed up the transfer rate.

EDIT. For the sake of completeness it is anyway to be seen if that 300% gain is referenced to real production scenes with large textures and complex shaders. Since RTX accelerates only the raytrace part then when we have complex shaders it can only get as far as a 50% gain as @drzap pointed out, and in this case OOC may work fine enough.

  • Skinny ribs for Genesis 8

I do have the G8F DAZ Originals Body Morphs. Unfortunately, the Emaciated morph is a full body morph and really is too anorexic/zombie like at 100%. Even at 100% the ribs are not nearly as clear as in the skinny girls shown in the images above. For some strange reason, they also only extend to the front of the chest and not the sides (as in the images above). At lower % the emaciated look is less, but the ribs become almost invisible again.

What I'm looking for is a torso only morph that gives distinct ribs that show all the way around the chest, as in real life. Additional separate "Skinny" morphs like prominent hip bones, shoulder blades, elbows, knees would also be nice, but these are easier to model myself in Zbrush as there are just about enough polygons to get a reasonable effect. However the G8F chest does not have enough polygons to model realistic ribs (as shown in the images above), I must rely on a PA  as they have access to DAZ3d HD technology. Since skinny fashion models are always popular, I think that a set of Skinny Morphs would sell quite well and be quite easy to make.

  • Welcome to Hatsune Miku Anime Manga Cafe ☕

The amount of mileage you're getting out of Aiko 3 is truly inspiring.

    Right?

I recently got an Aiko 3 bundle because it was super cheap (plus I made a Aiko 3 Clone for Genesis 8 Female, so I figured I could transfer some of her clothing to G8F) - but I wonder if there are any tutorials or resources on using Aiko 3 - particularly any tips or products that help her bends look better and any products or tutorials that help to "update" her for use in Iray. Are there any products or threads on her that you guys know of that do anything like that?

obj export will work, it just will be a very high resolution object

you even can add wind and rustle and load exports along the timeline as morph targets, I have done that

  • Is there a way to import a custom figure in DS and transfer the rig from G8?

I know there are methods to transfer morphs between different versions of Genesis, which don't use the same mesh. There might be a way to adapt those somehow to "transfer" your figure as a morph, but I have no idea how. And the transfered version may not look exactly the same, especially if your mesh is higher res than G8.

  • Is there a way to import a custom figure in DS and transfer the rig from G8?

To create a morph for G8 you start from G8 mesh and  modify it by moving the vertices, you can't take a totally unrelated mesh and transform it into a G8 morph.

  • Convert custom figures (rigged or non-rigged) into genesis8?

Using the transfer utility to transfer the figure rig to make conforming clothes then distributing the clothes is allowed. But you can't transfer the rigging to a different human mesh to create another human figure and distribute that.

To create a Genesis 8 character you start from G8 mesh and morph it (ie move the vertices, you can't add or remove any) using a modelling program, then use the Morph Loader tool to load the modified mesh as a morph. You don't use a totally different mesh.

  • Convert custom figures (rigged or non-rigged) into genesis8?

Sorry for the info. If you transfer the rigging from a DAZ character, that is still considered a derivative work since the rigging/bones came from a character.

As for clolthing, I am not sure, but I believe the rigging can br transfferred and then the product sold, but I haven't done that, so unsure.

That is the great thing about Blender, C4D and other modeling apps, they all recognize the FBX bone structure, Daz Studio does not.

  • Selling Characters. morphed to a face shape and body -

Understood. Nevertheless, those rules are applicable not only to PAs or products sold through the DAZ3D store, but are also imposed on ordinary users who have purchased licences for those tools and are applicable beyond the confines of the DAZ store, using the EULA created as a vehicle under the copyright laws. Those restrictions exist purely because someone decided to impose them, and using that mechanism, for whatever reasons they may have had.

So let me try once again to explain or clarify what I am saying. Why do we have copyright laws? I believe that everyone can agree that copyright laws exist to protect the rights of the creator of a work against unauthorized copying and distribution. What we commonly refer to as a EULA is a vehicle under those laws that defines the terms and conditions which apply to rights conferred to someone to use a copy of the work, if such has been granted. All designed to protect the creator's copyright. Anyone may hold a copyright to a work that they have created, and anyone may create a EULA governing the use of such a work, including any restrictions that they like. If I, for example, were to create a custom character morph using Modo, and distribute it, I could include a EULA stating, amongst other restrictions, that stated the work could only be used every second Thursday of the month, outside of normal business hours. I wouldn't actually do that, not simply because it would be fundamentally ridiculous, but because it would not protect my rights in respect to the work in any meaningful way. But nothing would prevent me from including it if I wished. Perhaps I had some other agenda beyond protecting my copyright in mind that I was advancing through imposing that condition in the EULA.

So what if I did have some other agenda in mind beyond simply protecting my copyright? What if I decided that I could use the EULA, not to protect my rights, but to market my product? Would including such a marketing strategy in the terms and conditions of the EULA be an appropriate use of such a vehicle under the copyright laws? Probably not. Not illegal. Not prohibited, perhaps. But appropriate? The expectation that everyone will obey the letter and the spirit of copyright law, including any vehicles associated with such laws, would require that rights holders display the same respect for those laws and their intent, wouldn't you agree? So the question is, if one attempts to use a EULA as a vehicle under the copyright laws to advance a marketing strategy by including a condition designed to do just that, is that not gaming the system and displaying a certain contempt for the spirit of those laws?

From my own perspective I would, in crafting a EULA under the copyright laws, tend to be very careful to include only those terms and conditions that were necessary to protect my rights in respect of my work, and be very careful indeed about avoiding anything beyond that that did not belong there, lest I, in so doing, fostered contempt for the entire system. Anyway, I have spoken my piece. Just something to consider.

  • Convert custom figures (rigged or non-rigged) into genesis8?

I see; so the whole thing is not possible. I am not sure at this point how does people make figures for Genesis8 for example; that are able to load and use (and sell of course).

From what I read, you can't do anything even if you transfer the rig on the different mesh. I recall that the EULA does not allow for derivative work to be sold; but I don't recall anywhere that you can't transfer the bone structure setup; since this is what every single figure does, to be able to work in DS when you load a piece of clothing/prop or you pose/animate them. If the rig is not 1:1, you cannot re-use anything. Same goes if you create cloting or props; since to have the item to conform to the figure, it must have the same bone structure copied on it.

This is disappointing; I was hoping I could import new figures, instead of use only the ones that DAZ sell; with the ton of content I already have, but that doesn't seem to be the case. If I have to spend time just to get a render, I find faster to use Blender or Cinema4d and do everything there, since my meshes are already rigged, and it is easier to just pose the clothing or props.

    Thanks for the clarification.

  • Is there a way to import a custom figure in DS and transfer the rig from G8?

I am looking at a way to make a morph so I can change the look of my custom mesh, to be a G8 character.

I assume that there is a workflow in place, for the creation of new figures; like Sakura8 for example, which works on top of the G8 figure.

Spent few days searching but can't find a clear approach to do this. I am not looking to sell content on DAZ store; but just to use my custom mesh and be able to do anything I can do with it, as if I did buy Sakura8 or any other DAZ figure that leverage on Genesis 8.

My custom meshes are humanoid; mostly anime figures, so I assume that it is possible to accomplish what I did mention.

  • Convert custom figures (rigged or non-rigged) into genesis8?

It's very unrealistic in my experience. Not saying it can't be done, but it is a ton of work and not an easy task. I have some game meshes I have transferred the rig of gensis to. It can get close so I can pose them, but never enough for a quality character to build upon.

The primary task is getting the new characters rigged and depanding on how close they are shaped to the genesis figure you use to transfer the rig (if you do not do it from scratch) will determine how much rig editing you will have to do after (the hard part!).

As for getting genesis clothing and such to work with the new figures, that will require you redoing the rigging and possibly the mesh on the clothing to get that to work, again, not a very easy task. You could try turning the new clothing into dynamic or dforce so it would fit, but that is still a longshot.

Also, not sure of your uses after you got this done, but once you get any of this done, you cannot upload it or share it anywhere, This will only be for personal use since no parts of anything developed at DAZ can be redistributed, against the EULA.

If you have a collection of FBX rigged figures you want to render in Daz Stdio, your best bet and easiest method is to pose them first, then import them into Daz Studio as a .OBJ and then render them.

  • March Madness 2019

waited a day too long and now lost the Bridgette HD morph at 70% off and the tulips.. i haven't bought a new release in 3 days I guess. its always something. Do i want to spend the cash or not is the problem. i actually decided not to buy anything, but then today I'm like I really need to buy this stuff.. I'm sitting on it again until my mind makes itself up.

I made a purchase yesterday and don't see the extra 70% off on the HD add-on either, seems to be broken.

If you haven't already, you could pick up Solaris Corridor first. Its a PC+ item and a Still Mad item as well, qualifying you for the bonus buyer. It's less ideal, but it still cuts down on that Bridget 8 HD cost more than a little./p>

  • Heels, begone?

Yes, my Patchwork Shoes are for Genesis 3 and 8 (I have an older version for G2, too, but without Iray materials).

    https://www.daz3d.com/patchwork-shoes-sandals-1-2-for-genesis-3-female-s-and-genesis-8-female-s

    https://www.daz3d.com/patchwork-shoes-boots-3-and-4-for-genesis-3-and-8-female-s

    Texture addons: https://www.daz3d.com/fun-textures-for-patchwork-shoes-1-2

    https://www.daz3d.com/fun-textures-for-patchwork-shoes-3-and-4

These are for G8, but they can be morphed between flat, medium and high heels: https://www.daz3d.com/all-season-shoes-for-genesis-8-females

    with texture addon: https://www.daz3d.com/all-season-shoes-texture-add-on

And my Summer Dream Dress also includes shoes that can morph between high heels and flat: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-summer-dream-for-genesis-8-female-s

    plus texture addon: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-summer-dream-addon-textures

That said, it is a pain to make shoes with morphing heel shapes, because the heels (and also the soles, if they're not super thin) need also to change their UV mapping when you morph them from high to flat. It requires a lot of planning and fiddling in all stages of production and I wouldn't want to do that for each single shoe product.

Great googley moogley, I almost missed this in the age debate noise - those are going on the wishlist, to be sure, and thank you both for the links and the insights.  I still need a good selection of what my friends tend to call "lesbian shoes" when I wear them, as well as good work boots, hiking boots, etc. to match into things like space suits with stiletto high heels (I do have some, I just feel like I need more to be able to buy heeled outfits without carefully searching to make sure I have shoes to go with it... my god, I sound like my wife talking about _her_ shoes more than I do an artist talking about stock.
Anyway, these are a very valuable addition to the arsenal - thank you again :)  And while we're at it, thank you, in general, for your tutorials. I've picked up several of those as part of my DAZ education program.  Now I just need to take a couple of months off and implement the program. ;)
