Mrs. Chow 8
LOL, that kimono works only if she has doubled-side tape on those shoulders to prevent equipment malfunctions. Otherwise she's fiddling with the shoulders the entire time she's wearing it. It does look good though it's not a kimono. I will have to get the old one fitted & saved for genesis 8 I guess.
Not to keep selling it, but the shoulder thing is a morph

Basically, its a regular kimono (or at least a big robe) with a few not-strictly-necessary morphs for, you know... artistic purposes.
Better scalp for hair (Geograft or geoshell)Yeah this is the shaved hair GeoShell from bluejaunte that I showed in the screenshots. Unlike the viewport preview once rendered you don't see the difference in resolution between the Face and the Torso map.
Like written in the description to compensate the difference in resolution the opacity maps for the torso have 8k resolution and the face maps have 2k. You can use the shaved hair as a scalp there are no material presets but you can set the desired hair color in the surfaces pane to match it as a scalp for other hairs.
But using the default genesis UVs with the seams and two texture maps is not that practical that is what I wanted to show.
Actualy I think most hair items would work without a scalp. It's just there to avoid seeing any bald scalp depending on the densety and opacity of the hair strands.
The hair I've lent the scalp UV from is Brady Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s) from goldtassel. But by looking at other hair products from goldtassel in my library I can see the scalp UV seems to be the same on all of them. This will allow me to use my UV set on the Genesis 3 Female for to replace all of goldtassels hair scalps with GeoShell ones. I just have to save the original shader once and apply it to the GeoShell to have all shader settings and textures like in the original.
GeoShell poke throughs?
About the Offset Distance (cm) slider under General>Mesh Offset: 1mm is not much it's 0,03937 inch and I don't know how far a completly white pixel on the displacement map would elevate the surface with the default shader settings Displacment Strength 100% maybe it would never reach 1mm in height. It was just my guess that even GeoShells can show poke-throughs maybe this is not the case since technicaly it could also be that the displacement map is first applied to the figure and after that the GeoShell is cloned as a layer and will even adapt to the displacement. This is something to be tested or to ask someone at Daz.
Smoothing Modifier
I've used the Smoothing Modifier before on hair not just to make it fit better but also in combination with DFormers to reshape it some. One trick to shrink the hair to get it closer to the head is to create a DFromer, scale the influence field until all hair is red, then scale down the DFormer. That works far better than to scale down the hairs head node because you can still move the DFormer Base around to define the origin for the scaling. While doing this the Smoothing Modifier will prevent any intersections of the hair with the figure while deforming the hair at least if you raise up the Collision Iterations. You can also "bake" the resulting shape of the collision to a morph by exporting an OBJ and importing it back with Morph Loader Pro and the Attenuate options thats what I did in the past to have better fitting hair on my character shapes.
Maybe this is an idea for another tutorial but I guess this will be better showen in a video.
PS: The Smoothing Modifier can help alot to fit everything over everything you eventualy just have to set the Collison Target manualy and turn up the Iterations at first I was surprised what it can do. It will collide with subdivided mesh set as Collison Target but will ignore the mesh resolution set by the SubD modifier in the fitted geometry (I guess for better performance). My fist experiment a while back was fitting a shpere over a cube. Or just for fun how about to force the Force Hair to fit over a sphere lol that is looking strange but shows its possible.
Genesis 8 figures keep loading with some kind of pre-applied morph.... I am losing my mind hereI am losing my mind!!!!!!
I installed a lot of content (manually) and I guess somewhere my installation went wrong because my Basic Genesis 8 M and F figures kept loading as grey cubes. So I deleted and redownloaded a fresh version of Genesis 8 starter essentials. Because I use an alternate directory for my base directory, I had to take what I downloaded into the regular My DAZ3D Library and drag the files into my base directory.
I have no idea what is going on because now both M and F load up with pre-applied morphs. The G8M even has a completely different skin! The G8F has some expression and is looking sideways. I have checked the currently used dials and all that's used are the eyelash dials. For both G8M and G8F. I even tried loading the G8F and G8M from the My DAZ3D Library - same result.....
They are morphs I own but I didn't purposely apply them. If I try to apply another morph, it just loads on top of these broken ones, doesn't replace it, so it's not the same as using the normal G8 figure.
And same thing happens with G3F and G3M!!!
This is driving me crazy. How can I get the regular figures back??? I'd love to use DAZ for a commission I have to do but it is not really possible at the moment!
Thanks!
Examples attachedAm I the only person who has issues with Legacy UVs for Genesis 8: Michael 4?Maybe you are overthinking it. (I have the G3 version, and I'm sure the process is the same). Load M4 with the material you want to transfer to G8. Save as a material preset (it will save as .duf, no choice about that). Save that in your library somewhere, maybe in a special folder for conversions. It must be in a mapped library folder for Studio to see it. (I keep all my own saved files in a separate library so as to not mix them in with the official stuff).
Note where it is, and use that file to load the materials onto the prepared G8, like any other material preset. That should be about it.
That note in the readme about the batch autoconvert (it's in the G3 version, too) is misleading. That particular product only does M4 to G2Male and there is no other version.

Transfer Rigging vs Transfer UtilityIn which situation should I chose between:
1) Using 'Scene Identification', then 'Transfer Rigging (Figure Space)' and finally 'Fit to...'
vs
2) Using 'Transfer Utility' with 'Fit To Source Figure' option activatedDaz3D model export into substance properlyOK, so this is not somethign you made yourself - it is one of the Daz figures, a Genesis I assume, for which you have created a morph (either partially using your own modelling or stacking existing morphs). In that case it either uses stacked UVs (Genesis and Genesis 2) or UDIMs (Genesis 3 and Genesis 4). Substance (Designer or Painter?) does not support those, at least not without fiddling.
Daz3D model export into substance properlyI belive my morph uses stacked UVs. Since I dialed multiple HDs on the figure. However, I exported the morph obj so would that change anything.

So Ok there they are little buggers. You know I did look there and could not find them there, I need better glasses I think. Found them well there they are I swear I did not find them there when I looked earlier.
Well see now I should rescore this item just for the house call thanks DMaster. So I would now rate this at about an 8 of 10......
Maintaining Hand Contact Pulling A WagonHey guys - I have a scene where there's a guy pulling a wagon as he walks. It there a way to lock his hand and maintain contact on the handle?
Is this an aniblock or keyframed timeline animation? Which bone are you using to transfer the character? If you use the root node, parent the wagon to that, then make the necessary corrections to the hand movements.
Alien Corridor Kit On Sale Now Commercial TransmissionGood heavens, never thought we'd get something of this impressive detail. An instant necessary purchase! Mist renders beautifully, too!
We have some amazing furistic corridors meant to portray human technology, but hardly anything to infer non-human design (would imagine this could be highly useful for supernatural and fantasy-themed depictions, too). And Giger influence certainly has some other uses, too. :)
If this sells well, might there be expansions? Upper and lower gaps to transfer between floors? Modular sections of acidic and explosive-looking damage? Alternative textures to make it look like the interior of a still-living creature/biotechnological ship? Bioluminescence? Additional tubes and cables? Other shapes of corridor (triangular, hexagonal, octogonal and so on), with sections to seamlessly connect them to this?
Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?Never say never, but probably not much. I'm pretty much invested in Genesis 2 and 3, and a tiny bit of 8 if it was something that struck my fancy. Gen 3 is probably over 70% of my content library so unless there is a compelling need to change or something pops up for Gen 9 that simply doesn't exist for earlier figures, I'll likely more or less stick with what I have. After a time, you've accumulated so much skimpwear and stuff that you really don't need anything but the transfer and fit utilities. and morphs. If Daz won't sell them anymore, then there are places like Renderosity where content creators are still making new products for Vicky 4 through Gen 8; lots of other options to keep my library of earlier figures current for many, many years to come.
I will add this caveat, though: if Gen 9 is easily transferable and usable with Gen 3 and Gen 8, then I may buy a few things. Interoperability is a must! If Daz does this, and either includes autofit capabilities for free or at really seriously reduced prices, then I may well buy more. Otherwise, why spend the cash?
DAZ Studio is a very entitled parent!!!Mrs Chow has Scaling issues in Carrara so it might be related to that and the HD morph, just guessing maybe parenting zeros the scaling not the morphs

Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.11.0.335! (*UPDATED*)Hm. It's also having the same issue when I attempt to load a figure into a scene.
I might try to reinstall!
Well the re-install appears to have fixed things, although I'm still receiving a few errors on the morphs. I suspect it's because I don't own those particular figures.
Yes, if a character or morph set has corrections for things you don't have then it won't be able to resolve the links - but that doesn't matter since, by definition, you don't have the shape the correction is needed for.
Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?
Same here. I hate rebuying all the same utilities to get the new generation up to speed with the old one. I'm okay with a small license upgrade. But rebuying at the new item price is asking a lot. I want to keep using new generation figures. But, I dread the thought of repurchasing all those morph and skin packages.Yes, I will buy. Each new generation is a new adventure of discovery. I don't buy every character, and I do get annoyed when add-ons for the previous generation don't work, like all of Zev0's morphs. But Zev0 sometimes adds improvements with each generation of product, so that makes purchasing again more palatable.
Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.11.0.335! (*UPDATED*)My Beta is suddenly taking an extremely long time to load and save even simple scenes. We're talking 3 - 5 minutes for even simple scenes, so much so that my PC registers the program as "Not Responding." 4.10 isn't having the same issue.
The log file isn't particularly helpful. Is it choking on morphs?

Where are the highly detailed, muscular HD-Addons for Genesis 8 female? Like Ophelia 7's HD-Addon?
Mika was also gen 7 debut and returned for g8. I was surprised by that, since I thought karyssa was her replacement. You can't. At this stage of the Genesis 8 life cycle, there's likely only a few short months before Genesis 9 is launched, and the lead time on a full Daz character is not brief. (Given all of the characters, hairs, outfits and pose sets in the bundle can only be finalised once the base character is finished, as they need to work for that character, and any change to the base would affect anything based off it - and they all need to be ready to go before the character can be launched).
It's possible that they're planning an Ophelia this late in the cycle, as I think she was the penultimate character in Generation 7, but I wouldn't necessarily hold your breath; the last returning character was Eva 8, all the way back at the start of December, and I think that thus far she's the only character to return after having appeared only in one previous generation (I believe every other character who's returned in Gen 8 has appeared in at least two previous generations), which isn't good news for Ophelia, who was new in Gen 7.
Honestly, as I suggested before, your most reliable option is to convert Ophelia's HD morph to a displacement map.
Question about ChOni for Genesis 8 Female and Mrs Chow 8The horns are separate (located under: Characters/ChiOni/Horns) but the sockets are an integral part of the fullbody morph.
