What happened to to Daz models while I was gone?
You merely need to drink the kool-aid. ;)
Genesis 8 moved towards regular-looking people, which meant less glamourpusses, (though we now finally have an authentic anime doll, Sakura 8, thanks to RareStone). But Mousso and, at times, Raiya & P3Design have kept that end stocked. For interiors you should look at the ones who were prominent in your day (Stonemason, Jack Tomalin, Polish). After getting past some initial hiccups, Tesla3dCorp & Digitallab3D have churned out a lot of high quality, render-ready interiors (with a few forays into exteriors). New stars include RareStone, bluejaunte, D.Master (stylized characters), Linday, Josh Crockett (creatures), Herschel Hoffmeyer, Chungdan (not so new---but newly ascendant), & RiverSoftArt (scripts & utilities). Then there are the stalwarts that keep plugging along, like The AntFarm, DzFire, RawArt, 3D Universe, Virtual_World ---and for hair: RedzStudio, AprilYSH, OutOfTouch, goldtassel, SamSil, & 3DCelebrity, with Kool and Sarah Payne making recent rumblings.
Seek, and you shall find.
...wish they had offered such characters with G3 (Molly is the only one). Takes a lot of work sometimes using merchant/morph resources to undo the "glamour factor".
On the other hand takes a fair investment to adopt a new figure having to purchase all the morphs, models, and utilities all over again, particularly since we will likely have no new updates to Gen-X. Time I have, money I don't.
...still waiting on "Little" Cat 8 though.
Morphs from G3 to G8Thank you very much for these informations, it helps me to understand the current situation.
About the 2 years, I took your post on August 7, 2017 from the page 23 as a start point but I must admit it doesn't reflect all the events.
Understandable, but note that comment was edited March 2018. The current script was first made public in February 2018. And it really is a different animal. In fact, the alpha script that followed is rather different from that early 2018 effort. But those since February are all related in terms of thematics. The 2017 script was a massive, brute force attack on the morph files. The current script is more fidly, but smaller and faster as a result.
Morphs from G3 to G8But did we really need the extreme morphs like old 3D Universe figures ?
I don't complain, just I'm curious to know if the DAZ core figures (and their addons) would be enough as a start point and maybe, if there are a lot of requests, to add later the possibility to convert the extreme characters like RawArt's products.
As others said, this depends on who "we" are. I'm just not willing to say the tool does the job when it only does half. Better to simply remove the ability to do that job and work on it some other time.
I don't think saying it supports the core figures would be kosher, or advisable. One of the 3DU morphs it fails on is not a toon. Just skinny. Which means I can't certify that it will work on all non-"extreme" morphs (allowing, as was stated, that extreme is in the eye of the beholder).
Without being rude that project is almost 2 years old.
I mean the time is running fast.
Question:
What will happen when Genesis 9 will be released ? Will the development include it too ??? I mean the development may never end if a new generation is released every 2 years.
This project is considerably less than 2 years old. It just feels like it's not. I wrote an early script some 2 or three months after G8 dropped. It reached stable (but still wrong) capacity right as G8M came out. I started work on a companion script to move figures between G8Ms, and pondered doing a cross figure capable script. Then I noted small addition to the script API documentation (or possibly an extension of the API). This presented the opportunity to automate much faster, with a smaller script (the current script is less than 2000 lines, the previous scripts was about 20,000 lines). I wrote a proof of concept about that time.
At this point, my life basically imploded. I took a good few months off. But I came back to it, and started to tackle the issues in earnest last summer.
The thread is 2 years old, but this work on the script is not.I suspect Genesis 9 will be not particularly difficult, given the current status of the script. One assumes this will be finished before that happens, but as I am not (and won't be, very likely) a vendor who gets early access, one can't expect G9 support to drop instantly. Given that I am homeless, I would expect support to come along about the time G9M comes out. I've reasons for saying this based on today's work.
Until DAZ makes it easier to transfer morphs from one generation to another, this probably would be a continuous project (at least once it comes out. I’m just wondering if it can be open source so it can become easier to work on)
If I open the source, I won't be able to sell it (it's really just a clever exploit). I've said I will make it available as source code and supporting data in the event that I am convinced it will never reach saleable quality. I definitely underestimated the difficulty of transferring beyond G3/8. That's my bad, as far as the delays go. OTOH, everything I said is true. The principles I was using didn't really change until I realized they were going to generate horrible results with G1. And, the fix I've come up with, while not really working right on G1 also didn't work right on G3. But I failed in such a way that it told me how to fix it, and now G8F<>G3F is a going thing, again. Much more accurate and should work on any morph, rather than having the shoulders break down when the scaling is in the morph deltas and not the figure scale control (where Daz wants it).
It was a minor pain in the buttocks to do it, but it only took about an hour and half to do it and track down the remaining issues. I've only done three tests (Two "extreme," one not) but they were all morphs that had caused problems before. The results are excellent. Because it took so little time, I have gone back to looking at G1 (I basically gave myself the next 3 days to do what I did this morning {yesterday I spend banging my head against G1, exhausting all of the ideas I'd come up with while walking back to the shelter, after announcing I wasn't working on G1 [and nesting parentheticals]}, so I have some time). I proceeded to waste today by adding all of the newly generated data to the wrong file and wondering why the tests were failing to generate the results I wanted. But, in my defense, my new prescription seems to have failure point at just exactly laptop distance, and reading glasses don't seem to work when I test them in the store. So, I wasn't seeing that I was editing the backup copy. And I just finished the first good test after doing all that. It's working. (It might not be working well. I seem to need to gather the data in different ways to get a solid result, but like I said, gathering G3<>G8 only took 90 minutes. It is working. Finally.)
At this point I'm going work on and save what I've got, today, then go to G8F>G3F (right now it only works G3>G8, but it should be just a matter of inverting that data. I just need to write script to do that {For those who feel much fear for long delays, most of the issues I have involve writing a script to solve. I've gone from "I hate to code, and refuse to do it," to "I hate to code, but if I write a script, it'll save a lot of time." [I don't intend to nest this aside as deeply as I did before ... Damnit!]}). After that, it's "and so on" until I have all of the G3<>G8 combo moves mastered. Then I'll go back to G1 and examine further to see if there are more difficut surprises. If so, I'll strip G2 and G1, and release the final beta (Really, baring some tester really showing a fault. All of the things I wanted to "fix" no longer apply with the newest method. It's just a matter of cleaning and idiot proofing the UI). If not, I'll go ahead and finish G1/2 support.Carrara Challenge 45: Extinction and De-extinction! Less than two days to go!Forgot to add
- Bunyip, love the latest robot image. Think I might have lamb chops for dinner.
- Stezza, the dodo morph is brilliant. great movement and exprssion on the scientist. Another classic.
- Headwax, thanks for the suggestions regarding the DNA helix. Maybe that idea can be salvaged.
El loco Marcha sale es prontoA nice normal rabbit with a hare morph would be cool
That would be cool. LOL

Need a 3D artist to create a photo of a realistic character G3And you want this character rendered or are you hoping for someone to make you a figure or morph you can use in DS?
If you want someone to work for you you need to give some information about your wishes but as well what you are willing to offer.
The more detailed the information is the better will be the result.
This is my first experience. I was hoping to get an offer from the artists. I need a character to animate. The terms of the 3daz standard license would be acceptable.

Genesis Base Defaulting as Denobulan GDU - HELP!I loaded this morph and now it has become my Genesis default shape.
I deleted the files and totally reloaded Daz 3D and all content.I deleted - \data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\GDU\Denobulan\Denobulan.dsf
This still is loaded Denobulan GDU Actor/GDU/Head Shapes Parameter Setting
It is still there, help please

What happened to to Daz models while I was gone?Been involved with other things that don't involve 3D for more than a year, but I'm just going to be up front when I say that all the models in Genesis 8 don't look so good. And it's not just the figures either, it seems like much of the clothes, the interiors, all looking sort of poorly made, poorly lit, etc. Did something change over the last while? Or maybe I'm having delusions about how great so much of Genesis 3 was? I was expecting to be rifling through new stuff and adding to my want list, but other than one pair of shoes, I'm not really seeing much. Just my impression.
I can't agree also, I constantly work with scenes that have both figures in them and with so many things including clothes and skins being interchangable, many times I can't tell them apart till I look at the generation specific morphs
That's true. The only ones I can truly tell apart anymore is Vicky 4 from the Genesis line (but not the individual Genesis's sometimes). Even then, I get stumped now and then by a really good V4 morph.

The Things Which Could Be Worse Need Cats To Make Them Better Complaint Threadcan that morph masking be precise? for example make the morph affect only the toenail beds?
Retro rufflesI don't, I have zero use for female clothes because I render men. So this freebie isn't worth anything to me. I prefer props.
But men could wear them ruffles too...
Heck yeah, you can't say "ruffles" without "rough".
Who says men can't wear ruffles? Them's fightin' words, Bro. lol
now if we only had a morph to turn G8M into a dragon. Mil dragon in roughulls
Retro rufflesHow did you do the shoulder strap off the shoulder?
Is that a morph or Dforce?
long, straight hairHave you tried using dFormer to take the pouf out of the top. I had a problem with Georgia Hair's top pouf (even with limits disabled on the flatten morph), and the initially unwieldy dFormer tamed the unruly wave. Duplicate a copy of the hair before you start working.Haven't worked much with dformers so I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! I'll give it a go.
long, straight hairThanks for the suggestions. I already have both the alice and the drop wet hair. The alice hair is closer to the look I'm after, but the crown is a bit too tall (to my eye) to be realistic and it doesn't quite drape correctly. (What do you mean, OCD? Moi?)
Classic long hair looks interesting, but at 5 min for the simulation on a 1080Ti, I'll probably be dead before it finishs on my (10 year old Core2 duo) laptop.

Making Poser's Andy work with a Genesis 8 poseThe only thing I can think of might be to transfer the rigging from G8 to Andy. Never done it, so you might just have to google "transfer rigging in Daz Studio" to find tutorials
Customized Character TutorialsHere is another Character I did up earlier today
I used a few morphs for this look 30% Gia 6, 60% Fairy Morph I got a while back for free on ShareCG,10% Teen Josie 6, used extend elf ears as well I got for free a while back. It is only head morphs I used on this one.
Rendered in 3Delight used AoA Ambient Lighting only, no postwork, Hair used is Scarf Hair For GF2 and Teen Josie 6, Outfit is Diamond Glitter for GF2

Heels, begone?Ok, so I know I'm in a sharp and tiny minority when I look at outfits, think "Wow, this one looks really great!" and then see high heels, groan an exaggerated, melodramatic groan, and close the tab because I now deem the outfit unusable. I get it. Not even all women consider heels to be ridiculous, unwearable atrocities. ('Course, not all women have ridden rodeo, been a soldier and an MP, fought in full and partial medieval armour, driven a truck, worked construction, fought martial arts, raced BMX, fought light weapons, done their own stunts, or "manned" a siege engine, either. ;) )
So, yeah... I would LOVE it if every outfit that has high heels also had a morph for flats or functional heels (like combat boots, hiking boots, or cowb'y boots) but I know there's probably not much market for it, and I don't wanna make everyone else wear my shoes any more than I want to wear theirs, so the question becomes this:
I imagine I can take those outfits into Hex or Blender, re-shape the heels into flats, and import that as a morph (and I expect tutorials on that will teach me how to re-inject the zeroed out heel poses to do it) but, once that's done, do you think there's a viable market for that as a thing? "Sensible Shoes for X", "Sensible Shoes for Y" - it'd have to be super-cheap to be saleable, but it wouldn't sell many copies, either, right? So how long would it take, and how many would have to sell to make all the making, texturing, injecting, and all the song and dance to get them accepted as products worthwhile...?
Whenever I have an idea like this, I tend to assume the reason it's not a thing is because people with a lot more experience have already considered it and decided the math doesn't work out, right? Are these assumptions correct:
A - It would have to be done on an outfit by outfit basis.B - It would take two hours, per outfit, bare minimum.
C - packaging it for sale in the marketplace would require at least another 3-4 hours (promo render, product render, actual file packaging, etc.)
D - Most people aren't going to buy it at all, and those who do won't pay more than a buck or three unless it just happens to be that one outfit they really wanted to use (luck of the draw)
E - They're going to buy it on sale anyway, so you're making what... $.25, $.50 per, max? So...
F - let's say the equation is V * H / P = X where V is Value of your time (Let's say $25 for ease of math), H is hours invested (6?), P is profit, your cut per sale (let's say $.25, again for ease of math) = X
Solve for X gets us a threshold of 600 have to sell for each one to earn out? Is that about right? So are there anything like six hundred people who'd buy it - even as a step toward making that outfit male-friendly?Nope. I don't buy products with heels unless it makes sense - such as an evening dress or similar. I don't buy products that have them if they are 'ninja' type products - or similar.
Shaders? No, a shader is code that tells a particular render engine how to process the surace. The surface settings are the sahder to use and the values and maps asigned to it. In general surfaces/materials/shader settings do not transfer to other applications.
I see. Thanks!
Transfering Clothing MorphsTransfer Utility can transfer morphs as well as rigging, if you use the original as the Source and the new OBJ as the Target - it's in the additional options that can be shown under the main dialogue.
