It's too bad the models aren't backward compatible, as this would be a non-issue.

Well, Genesis (1) is backward compatible in a lot of ways (I won´t speak here for Genesis 2, which I don´t use, so I don´t have any experience with it). Genesis can wear clothing of previous generation figures via autofit. It can also wear skins of characters made for Victoria 4 and Michael 4. Characters made for older figures (Generation 3 and 4 = Victoria 4, Michael 3 etc.) can be transferred to Genesis via GenX (for sale in DAZ store). Poses created for older figures can be used on Genesis but will need some adjustments.

    Oh, dear.

Glad you'll enter your version, though. I enjoy looking at everyone's ideas for the challenge's theme.

Did you use the Lorehand Cane too, or did you find an actual guide stick? I searched all over and had no luck. Originally, I wanted to use a seeing eye dog, but the MilDog has nothing like a harness or a leash, much less a seeing eye dog harness. Not even as a pay-for item.

Neither, actually - I used Zippo's walking stick, and made the handle completely transparent in the Surfaces tab. It's almost perfect; all that's missing is the wrist loop.

And, since the render's done, I may as well post it. No title, no story - I'll just let the artwork speak for itself.

One thing to note about the Generation 4 figures is that they were all the same mesh. Michael 4 was essentially just a morph of Victoria 4, and so was Kids 4. In fact, you can actually import Michael 4 as a morph target for V4 and it will work flawlessly. It seems a bit redundant to create a male morph for a figure which already has one, especially when it's a morph which already has a support base.

...however, unlike Genesis, clothing content made for the gen4 male figures could not be fit to the Gen4 female figures without a third party conversion tool. Neither could character morphs or Maps.

It seems a bit redundant to create a male morph for a figure which already has one, especially when it's a morph which already has a support base.

Remember that the male morph came with the original V4, or possibly with the 4.1 service update. It pre-dated Michael 4 by at least a year, as I recall. And of course the joint centres weren't as readily editable in the fourth generation figures, and the falloff zones (like the weightmaps on newer figures) didn't adjust to morphs so that does limit the usefulness of the M4 OBJ as a morph for V4.

    -----------------------

The androgynous morph for G2F isn't to neuter the shape, it's to flatten the chest - I don't yet have Dawn, so i don't know if her androgynous morph is a sex-removal morph or just to produce an androgynous woman.

just wanted to correct a misconception...Dawn may have started as a female figure but she will not be limited to that. There is already a vendor who is close to releasing a male shape for her and the starter pack includes an androgynous figure with a morph for no breasts.

I was seriously disappointed in DAZ and the way they introduced the second generation of genesis. I realise that some are quite happy and love the female base but I'm not one of them.Like most of these things though, it's 3rd party support which is creating the male and androgynous figures, which is the same with Daz's Genesis 2. The clue is in the name, really, she's called Dawn and is marketed as a female figure. The official character packs for her are all female as well. I believe if and when they create a male counterpart they'll likely market the whole thing again as if it were a new figure rather than a morph, which it may well be.
Even V4 had a male side just saw very little love for it...

I suppose it's also possible that when Genesis 2 male is released it will be the same figure as Genesis 2 Female, but just a different shape. If that's the case then theoretically it will make morphs dual-compatible between the figures, along with clothing and accessories. Sadly, scant information has been released about any future Genesis 2 figures.

The only thing which irks me is the lack of information. I understand that the male figure might not yet be completed, but I'm not sure there would be any danger to at least informing us of their intentions. None of this has put me off making purchases though, and Daz continues to be, in my opinion, the best store for quality goods. I won't bore you with a list of issues I have with certain competitors, but suffice to say the combination of strong customer service, quality and ease of use is why I keep coming back here.

  • Freak 4 vs Michael 4 - clarifiction please?

I see some clothes support M4 and F4, while other is M4 or F4 specific. I was under the impression that F4 was a completely different character than M4, but perhaps I'm wrong. Is F4 a sort of "super morph" for M4?

I ask because I'm thinking of using Freak 4 (sorry not 5 - don't own it) for a character. But there is a lot less stuff available for F4 versus M4. By this I mean clothes, hair, pose sets, expressions, etc. I'm trying to decide if there's enough variety to use F4 for a character that needs a variety of looks, or if I'm better off "morphing up" M4.

  • First impressions of Dawn?.....V4 is safe.

^^Unfortunately, that is predominantly what the market demands. Probably 95~98% of the 3d market demands for a woman fall under one of these categories:

    A. Hot photoshopped model from a magazine cover
    B. Hot and/or beefy model from a fantasy novel cover/ Marvel comicbook
    C. Hot teen or young adult from a manga

Generally there is little variation in what is desired in any of these save body softness, muscle tone, lack;/degree of tan, and size/shape of eyes/face (and Dawn isn't trying to cover category C)

the fact remains that women of today’s world could NEVER measure up to this sort of standard that this community is holding these base shapes too!

While it's probably more severe with the female models, it's not as if the men of today could measure up to Michael 3 or 4 Base, either. The amount of muscle tone on Michael 4 base's arms is about what I've seen in the average college athlete (NOT bodybuilder), and the average modern male is by no means an athlete. In fact, both Michael 3 and 4 base possess very athletic body types, and they're also taller (though to a lesser degree) than the average male. And then of course there's the weight issue in the industrialized world (esp. the USA)

We did away with the old ps_#### codes around the time Michael 4 was released if I remember correctly. After that we switched to an SKU based code. The format was Sku_InstallerNumber_InstallerType_Shortname.extension, or some slight variation of that. The new format for the zips is similar. It goes IM(for install manager)8DigitSku-InstallerNumber_Shortname_Qualifier(if there is one).zip The reason for the change was to make a simple way for both Install Manager and users to distinguish between zip packages.

Why did we abandon the old prefix system? I wasn't here when the decision was made, but I've fielded enough complaints from customers who can't find the proper installer on their system to say that the reason was it wasn't a good system. Most customers found it difficult to follow, and I don't blame them.

*Edit* I was informed that it is a zero padded 8 digit Sku in the IM name, not a 7 digit sku. Looks like somebody needs to learn how to count.

And now we can't search for anything since the 8 digit number leads.

Take your pick, they're a dime a dozen.

How many of those are designed for Genesis 2 and the new product lines (outside of the wings that I own and already just posted a picture of)? Are you be against some new products being positive in nature?

Why would I want obsolete, low resolution products for Genesis 2?

Is there a problem with me wanting those type products designed for thenew characters with the new technology?

  • Old morph sliders not showing up in 4.6

I recently purchased Victoria 4.2 and morph++ and the base loads fine, but all the morph sliders are missing. If I go into the content library on the right I can find buttons that represent the morph sliders but the buttons do nothing when clicked. I'm using v 4.6 but the same thing happened in 4.5. I've tried uninstalling the product and re-installing but I get the same thing Michael 4 and his morphs++ has the same problem. I've even uninstalled and re-installed the entire program and all content but it hasn't changed a thing. I left the default settings at install. IF anyone could help me figure out how to get the morph sliders to show up I would be eternally grateful.

Slightly off-topic, but it needs stating. If you plan to use Michael 4 in a game, you'll need an Indie game developers license. This is necessary even if you're creating a free game or using him in a game mod, so do bear this in mind if you haven't already purchased one.

As for custom models, prices will vary depending on the sort of item and the amount of work it takes, so it will be difficult for any artist to offer an accurate estimate without knowing specific details on what you're after. As noted, many will charge up to a thousand or more depending on the complexity, so you might expect to spend more than you're comfortable with.

Im not using him in a game, im animating him, photoshopping, and creating sprites to be used in a Mod for a game.
