  • Should Daz3d split its software to Pro and Home additions.

a Pro version with HD morph loader and Dforce hair creation would almost certainly sell and they could even ask $500+ for it

  • Should Daz3d split its software to Pro and Home additions.

    Wolf359, to answer your points:

It seems that DAZ3d are locked in to a business model of

free software with relatively expensive content. DAZ3d then

make their money from selling content and part of the profit

    goes towards developing the software.

"Daz content is "expensive" relative to what??"

The answer to that is very simple. DAZ3d does not generate money by selling it's software. Instead it generates money through content sales. Therefore, if DAZ3d did generate money from it's software then it would not need to generate as much money through content sales, consequently content could be cheaper. So, "expensive relative to a different business model".

One way forward might be to put all future advanced features

in the "content category" by making them "paid for" plugins.

Then the return on investment would come directly from the

    sales of the plugins.

"The  obvious problem with that approach is that many of the "advanced features" are proprietary Daz IP that they  will not release to the general public.
(See HD morph tool& the DForce version of the new Spline based hair).""

Indeed, I was not talking about DAZ3d removing existing advanced features from DS4.11, but rather that additional advanced features that could be added to DS (and there are many) could be "paid for" plugins which would be self funding. Ideally, DAZ3d would be releasing those plugins themselves with or without collaboration with it's PAs or other Third Parties.

  • Plugin/script to combine multiple morphs on the fly

Are you happy to have a master slider that drives the morphs, still as separate sliders, or are you wanting to combine them all? The former is easy, via ERC Freeze, the latter is trickier though I think a script could do it (get teh current shape and calculate the ttoal deltas from that, or get the delats from the individual morphs, then sum them and assign them to a new morph) though I'm definitely not planning to try it any time soon.

Hi Richard, Indeed I knew about creating a master slide, and I suppose I could then hide the component morph dials, but that's messy. I would prefer a script that did as you suggested; calculate the total deltas from the component morphs and sum them in to one new morph and then preferably delete the originals.

Thank you! I think I have the first head morph tweaked where I want it.  Going to test it out using Lorenzo's skin with a front, profile and 3/4 view renders.  I'll post those when they're done!

As for the pants you're asking of, here they are: https://www.daz3d.com/farshadow-elf-outfit-for-genesis-8-females

  • Shape transfer eye distortion

I have this https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=70433 for Genesis 1, and used GenX to transfer it to Genesis 2 and 3, and it worked fine for that (except for the morphs which reduce the number of fingers).

I tried to use the Transfer Utility and this https://www.dropbox.com/s/x2vcwnfu7w2wtj9/G8%20Morph%20TransfersR1.zip?dl=0 to transfer the morphs to Genesis 8, but when I do that there's wierd eye distortion. The eye distortion does not happen in Genesis 1, 2, or 3. Images are examples of the distortion, as well as without it on Genesis 1, 2, and 3.

Is there any way to either correct the distortion or transfer it in a way to prevent it from happening?

  • Pose distorting hair

I guess some JCM (Joint Controled Morph) is acting crazy.

To check for JCMs I would unfit the hair, selecting Property Groups "All" in the Parameters pane and typing JCM in the Filter Box on top to see the list of JCMs that got projected from the genesis figure to the hair. Make shure to chack Show Hidden Properties in the Parameters pane Option Menu (the lined button on top of the pane).

If the hair is "unfitted" you can now manualy turn up the JCMs, I would have a look at Right Collar JCMs first, by the looks of it I suspect one of these. If you found the culprit JCM delete it, don't worry a new propper one will propably get created by the time you fit the hair to the genesis figure again.

Thanks very much, that fixed it.

Actually it was the jJCMCollarFwd_L that did it. Not sure how to delete a JCM though so I tried deleting the bone for the affected hair part, and that worked. Later I found out that just changing the JCM dial from 0.76 to 0.00 while the hair is fitted to V8 works as well.

  • Saved Scene not loading correctly

Are the morphs embedded in the scene or saved as morph assets?

Some of the morphs look to be assets while others are scene. The best ones are scene-linked by the look of things, since I did some facial reworking around the temples and cheekbone... Another thing I noticed was that the issues were more linked to recent saves. Like this is a modification of a purchased character which I never had issues with before but now yeah. It's just really weird.

As a trial, I loaded Man-Wolf? Morphed the head a bit stuck it in a scene with another character that I shaped, added morphs to saved. Reloaded and the wolf is exactly as I saved it but the other is back to default. Both started as the genesis base. I'm beginning to wonder if Daz really just dislikes my head morphs...
Also, I'm using 4.9 if this helps any.

  • Trying to move My Daz 3D Library to larger hard drive - BIG Problem!

Okay, that is certainly odd behaviour, jukingeo. I don't use Windows 10, so hopefully the issue isn't some idiosyncrasy associated with that. Let us assume for the time being that it is not. A few questions, first.

How was your new drive physically connected to the PC? Was it installed in a spare drive bay and connected to a spare SATA port on the motherboard? Was it connected as an external drive?

How did you complete the transfer from your C: drive to your new drive? Drag and drop in explorer?

(the existence of that second content library folder on the new drive is troublesome, since Windows shouldn't even allow two folders to have the same name like that)

There are a couple of other things that I would like you to check, but I'd like to know exactly what was done (the devil is in the details) vis-a-vis my two questions prior to going further.

    Hello SixDs,

I am not using Windows 10 either.  I am on Windows 7 as that was the only decent release since Windows XP.  If I had my way, my box would have been totally Linux a long time ago.  However, certain things, such as Daz Studio, I still need Windows for.

Yes, I did the drag and drop method of which I do with everything for the computer and I never had a duplicate folder come up like that.  Worse, I dragged and dropped into a folder that had other data in it...Namely the finished renders of my Daz creations.

The drive itself is a third Sata drive that I added to my machine.  Hard drive 1, my main one, is divided into two partitions and one has Windows 7 on it and the other has Ubuntu Studio Linux 16.04 on it.

From what I have been gathering on my own, this is a Windows gaff.  At any rate, I decided to boot my machine into Linux and low and behold I was able to see the contents of that folder again.  That was a was a sigh of relief for me, as I immediately created a new folder...this time named DazStudio without the space in it and then copied the contents over.  I then went back into Windows and thankfully I was able to see the contents of the newly created DazStudio folder.   I tried to delete the old folders, and one deleted, but Windows wouldn't let me delete the other one.  It came up with a message saying it at trouble finding it.

At any rate, I continued with the transfer procedure as outlined in the document and have successfully set up the new My Daz 3D Library on the new drive.  Naturally as the document said to do, I had to alter the installation location that the DM uses.   Since I had some content that I purchased but didn't download yet, I tried a few items first, not doing the whole batch.  I verified that the installation was on the new hard drive and not going on to the C drive.    I then went into Daz Studio to verify that the items have installed, which they did.   I then went to d a larger download and again checked everything.

So in a nutshell, I think I was lucky and didn't lose my data and I was able to fix the issue.  However, I don't know what to do with the one corrupt folder.   I am in Linux again right now and it looks like I am able to delete it there.  I just hope it doesn't take anything with it when I do that.  But now the question comes up to why it happened in the first place.  I never had something like that happen...ever.   I was even surprised when I went to the file system and saw the two folder of the same name.   Thankfully I am on a dual boot machine and sometimes when issues crop up in Windows, particularly hard drive issues, I can potentiall fix them in Linux.

  • [Released] RSSY Clothing Converter from Victoria 4 to Genesis 8 Female [Commercial]

So, I'm having a bit of a problem with this.  I got some things to transfer just fine.  A lot of my older stuff I had to "force convert".

First problem:  It will let me add a directory, but if I navigate to the folder of the item it just says there are no files.  So, I can't just pull in one outfit.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong there.  I was thinking I would just go to runtime/libraries/character/folder with the outfit.  I'm doing that by "adding files", but it just isn't working for me.   I can add, however, the huge top directory.  There are some I need to reconvert, but after 7 hours of it yesterday, I just want to pull in say Malaika or Vandra.  Not all the other stuff and have to pick it out.

Second problem:  Pose handles don't go away?  I can't make them invisible.  The loin cloth is from Freya, the white gown is Lady of the Lake gown, and the other picture is Tatiana. I used the loin cloth and dress conformers as needed.  If I have a material to put on them, the pose handles goes away.  However, if I don't, like for Tatiana, I can't get the handles to go away.    When I try the surface selection tool, it highlights the clothing item.  With the Freya loin cloth, the green thing didn't go away with a new material.  The first time I did "Lady of the Lake" these pose handles weren't there.  I used my old Poser runtime that live separately from Poser.  However, since the way wouldn't convert a lot of the items, I tried it from the place inside Studio.  This next go around Lady of the Lake has pose handles there that I can't "turn off" unless I apply a material.

Third problem:  Some of my things loaded as grey boxes.  I have no idea what that was about.  It looked to convert just fine, and then it was grey box sadness.  Thus, why I want to try to re-do some of the things in smaller batches.  Like the outfit Malaika, the skirt was just squares, but the shirt and the bracers were OK.  I think the boots were grey squares too.  I can't remember at this point if I had to force convert the stuff.  Some of the VAL3D stuff was half and half.  A lot of my stuff it just "zips past" and says it performed on 0 clothing items.

Some things I got at Renderosity.  Like the SAV Dragon Lady Dress.  And the Desert Queen outfit.  However, the DAZ and RDNA stuff at this point are all install manager installs.

I really like how the converter makes the stuff work better than the auto-fit even with the extra templates....I just need to figure out what the heck is going on with the pose handles and how I can do say only 1 outfit at a time.

    Thanks.

The "Force Convert" is normal.  Most V4 stuff has bad metadata.

    1. This works for me.  I click "Add Directory...", select the "Runtime\Libraries\Character\30sEverydayDress" folder, and it will find 3 items.  What does the log say?
    2. You need to hide the surface handles from rendering.  Usually, there is a surface called "Handles" or similar.  Find it, and then set Cutout Opacity (Iray) or Opacity (3DL) to 0%.  I've gotten annoyed hiding those things so I made up a couple scripts to hide/show any material with the word "handle" in it in the scene.  You're welcome to use them.  They are available at the top post of this thread.
    3. Sickleyield and I have not figured out why this occurs.  Usually, if you reconvert those items it will get fixed.

There's also this, which gets you around needing to transfer the shape: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-legacies-for-genesis-3-male-heroes

You'll still need to handle the textures via map transfer, though.

  • Parented props changing scale

If it's conforming cloth, you want it to auto-update scale since it helps with conforming to look natural at various poses.

If you're using dForce cloth, simply put use 100% scale at frame 0 and X scale at frame 60 and simulate the pose. The cloth will remain the original size while still using the figure as it's colliding object (resulting in a natural/oversized cloth look).

You could always convert the cloth to a prop via right-click so it stays same scale (but loses all conforming properties). You could also use export/import to create a new oversized clothing item with either transfer utility or 'update base geometry'.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugdhxgo_wGU

Basically lots of ways to do the same thing with varying amounts of work involved. Depends on type of clothing you're using and end-goal.
