Karibous: Another great one, Snowy is a mean evil villain!
Luci!: So full of people, what a great scene, and the expressions are top notch!
Jaderail: Great to see you back here, love the idea, great one!

Thanks, Totte! There will be a sequel.

"What Does the Fox Say?" OMG, that is great! and a strange coincidence - I just saw the video for the first time earlier this morning and thought of you (same kind of northern madness? )

    My next pull:
    Colors for Elements Hair
    Michael 4 Base
    Moody for Dark Moods
    Supersuit (from last time)

  • A plea to clothing content creators regarding M6/G2M

    TimG said:
Not for nothing, but I've stopped posting wish lists for male clothing. It goes nowhere and asking for variety falls on deaf ears. There is more than one style of suit, yet if one suit gets made that's considered good enough. Yet there are many multiples of women's clothing, many by the same vendor, where a minor detail is changed - one that could have been done with a trans-map and a new texture.

I don't think the volume has to be equal, just the genres should match up for those who want both male and female in the same scene.

Michael 4 has almost everything--though it took many years to get there. Some will by necessity continue to use him if stuff for M6 is not forthcoming. That could hurt current sales for both the PAs and DAZ.

And, actually, Genesis for some genres can work as well. My plan is to stick with Genesis and M4 for quite a while. Though I've been purchasing a lot I'm getting sick and tired of these manic gimmick-ridden sales where I end up with stuff I probably won't use just because it's so cheap initially.

  • DIM setting for Content Management Service- Poser And DS

I've just installed DIM, and to setup the new paths, if I am only a DS user, should I do anything so far as Poser formats when I go to the Content Management Service? I did both (to the Daz 3D Library, as recommended) as I was thinking since some products are only Poser. But I don't want a bunch of Poser products that only work in Poser, obviously. I'm looking at Michael 4 and I have a lot of files I don't know about- mc6 and pz2's. I'm doing a separate thread on all the files with him, I don't know what some of these are but that should be a different thread.

  • How and where do I save a custom texture I've created?

    Hi friends..

First of all, I AM USING POSER. I hope it's okay that I ask here though, as I'm sure someone could help me.

For clarity, I'll explain what it is I'm trying to do.

I want to make an alien character, with a colored skin. (Maybe blueish purple etc)

Now since I don't yet know how to make a skin from scratch, I've figured out how to access the default texture files belonging to an existing character such as Michael 4 for example, and simply change the color of the existing .jpg skin texture using Photoshop and some of it's simple "coloring" options. The normal human "peach / tan" skin is colored blue or whatever color I desire in Photoshop.

I then save over the default file (don't worry I back up the original and place it elsewhere so I can easily get back to it) and when the character is loaded, it accesses the now modified / colored .jpg image belonging to it, and shows my character in this modified skin color.

    Sounds good!

But the problem is, I can't use that character again and expect it to have regular skin, because as long as I'm using this modified .jpg texture file, written over the original .jpg file, the character will always be "wrapped" in this modified .jpg image by default, every time that character is loaded.

I understand saving files in general computer use, so it's easy to customize the color I want, and simply save it under a new .jpg file name, in order to leave the original .jpg with normal skin color, but where do I save it to, and how do I apply that texture in .jpg image to the character once I've done so?

I've looked and looked, and found a seemingly endless supply of tutorials on "how to make your own skin textures" for use in Poser. But none of the one's found get to the simplest issue that I can't find anywhere:

WHERE AND HOW TO SAVE THEM TO IN OUR LIBRARIES, AND HOW TO ACCESS OR APPLY THEM TO OUR CHARACTER.

I hope this makes sense what I'm trying to ask lol. Thanks for any help :)

  • SPACESUITS ?

I am looking for a Spacesuit for Genesis (not Genesis 2). I would also like to know if there are any for Michael 4 and Michael 1 and 2. Yes, I still use them. They are great background characters. I have the one for Michael 3. Need more. I have a few space scenes to do. A whole story in space. Have been collecting space for awhile now. These are the last things I need. Then, the store will continue. Also, I need a simple airlock to put on a building for pressurizing, before entering the building. Does anyone know where to find these?

Thanks, I will stay with 4 for now. It does state that they are compatible Victoria 4 and Michael 4. I was looking at the features of 5 last night and was not clear on the differences between the two.

Characters created using Michael 4. All objects, props, clothing and sets created using Hexagon 2.5. Rendered in Daz Studio.

I connected my flat screen tv to the computer and when I opened DS I got this wide screen view so I came up with this render.

I have Thomas for M4 and Genisis 5!

I also have Michael 4 Base and M4 Morphs!

Then I load up Thomas I got an error message about
    missing files! See screenshots!

On DAZ market page it says you also need other files
like Genises Evoulution Body Morphs and M4 Elite Body
shapes! Could the reason be I need M4 Elite Body shapes
    as well?

Buddhist Armour (Fixes And More Figure Mappings)

Mappings of the same KaoYodSet1 tattoo to the basic free Genesis figures (Genesis Basic Male/Female and Genesis 2 Female) plus Adam2 and HIM (Sixus1 oldies).

Also corrections to the Michael 4, FREAK 4, She-Freak 4, and Genesis mappings - I'd forgotten that generation 4 uses separate maps for limbs and torso, and had the arm and back parts of the tattoo on a single image, resulting in spurious bits of tattoo on the back of the head, chest, and underarm.

Since the Genesis figures use non-standard materials by default my 'Apply Tattoo BETA' DAZ script won't work with them (this also applies to ANY figure that uses non-standard materials, e.g. Dawn). But the masks can be easily used with Layered Image Editor, and I've included a 4 page PDF to help anybody who's never used it before.

This image uses a few elements of my kit in evilproducer's Fantasy Village and has an interesting line-up of characters. From left to right:
Genesis, Victoria 2, Michael 4, Victoria 4, and Loretta Lorez. The horses are both Millennium Horses. evilproducer's cool "C" block relocated to show in the image... if you can find it in all that atmosphere! lol

    Edited again!
Okay, the lower image I made in evilproducer's Fantasy Village as well... but I made that flowering tree we're next to in the Carrara plant editor. Well all the other trees are, too, by ep.

Thanks for the plug Dart! I'm still waiting on PhilW's royalty check for using, Fantasy Village in his product name! ;-)

Amazing that all these different characters plus the environment call fit in Carrara. Like you have said setting up scenes like this one is much easier in Carrara than in DAZ Studio or Poser.

There are three ways to apply morphs. The first is though the content panel, under Daz Studio Formats/My Library/People/Genesis/Characters, in which case you applied someone's prestyled morph. The second way is through the parameters. Under parameters you will all kinds of dials to adjust the model to your liking. How many of these options you have will depend on what morph packs you have installed. The third is under the shapes tab and again you are going to get a lot of dials to make adjustments and again dependent on what morphs you have installed. All in all you should have no problem adjusting the breast size or the belly button.

Yes you can have more then one Genesis figure in your scene. I don't know a lot about crosstalk but it may be a problem and I am sure somewhere on this site is a solution to it. Someone should come along soon to explain the parts I couldn't.

Thanks but what morph pack for Genesis would I need so you could adjust the bellybutton or breast size for example like in the Elite+++ for Victoria/Michael 4?

  • Question about Posing

    dhmohr said:
I have looked around in several forums, and haven't found an answer for this question about poses.

Is it possibly to blend or mix 2 or more different poses onto the same model at the same time?

For example, Say I have a model pose of Michael 4 running, and another of Michael 4 standing in an archer's pose shooting a bow. Without manually adjusting things, is it possible to have Michael running (below the waist from one pose) while shooting the bow (waist up for drawing bowstring and aiming, etc)?

It would be nice to be able to select several body parts and apply one particular pose to them, then select the rest of the body parts and apply a different pose to them without losing the previous positions.

I have noticed that when I have a model holding a sword, then adjust the pose for the figure, the sword grasping hand often comes unglued a bit, and I have to reapply the hand position pose. I got to thinking this feature might be useful (if it doesn't already exist) for other body parts.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    David

Yes it's possible. Using Animate2 one can add subtracks for additional pose actions.

  • New here got many questions. Help please.

Hi I am just starting with Daz 4. I have lots of questions and I hope to figure out a lot for myself but I will be asking a lot here if that's ok.

I just wanted to know about the Genesis figure for Daz4. In the regular Victoria 4, Michael 4, after adding all the stuff like the bases and Elite+++ etc etc you can get it so you can adjust the figures naval size or chest size as well as many other stuff, the Q I have is how can this be done for Genesis? can you do this? say if I have a Genesis female morph loaded up, can I change her chest size for example or move her navel up and down etc like I can on the Victoria/Michael 4 models? is there something extra I need for this?

I also wanted to know how to get more than 1 Genesis figure up on Daz 4 at a time. I always use the one that is always there by default when I open Daz 4 but how can I add more Genesis figures?

    Thanks all.

  • what figures to use?

Genesis, Genesis 2, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 are all base figures. Character morphs that change the face and body features are applied to the base figure to create characters. Victoria 5 and Michael 5 are not base figures, but are character morphs for the Genesis base figure. Victoria 6 is a morph of the Genesis 2 Female base figure. DAZ presumably has the Genesis 2 Male base figure and Michael 6 locked in a closet somewhere in Utah. Perhaps Richard has seen him, but us ordinary users have only seen hints (products that claim to be compatible with Genesis 2 Male).

In Generation 4 there were separate male and female base figures (Victoria 4 and Michael 4). In Generation 5 Genesis only had on base figure that could morph to either male or female. There were also several technology innovations that Genesis to have a lower polygon count, and at the same time have much smoother bending of arms and knees. Some people complained that Victoria 4 could do better expression because of the higher polygon count. With Genesis 2 DAZ went back to separate male and female base figures and they slightly increased the polygon count in critical areas. This is suppose to allow Genesis 2 Female to have better expression and better bending in some areas. DAZ has also just introduced the HD morphs that allow morphs to be more detailed, although as far as I know only non-human shapes are available that use HD morphs. I expect there will be HD human characters in the future.

Another big difference between Gen 4 and Genesis, is clothing fits better on Genesis 1 or 2, not that it always fits perfectly.

Gen 4 is probably going to continue to be around for some time, although most of the new products may be at other stores. Right now most Poser users are still using Gen 4 and many of the independent artists that make clothing and other products are Poser users. Genesis 1/2 does work in Poser through DSON, but Poser users complain it is buggy. According to a friend that uses Carrara, Genesis did not work in Carrara until the recent 8.5 release and Carrara is a DAZ product.

While Genesis has better limb bending than Gen 4, many Gen 4 users have purchased products which smooth out some of those problems with Gen 4 figures. In actual use with experienced users, the differences are small.

The big thing is the Genesis 1 and 2 base figures and DAZ Studio are all free. You download them and experiment with them for yourself. There is a growing amount of free contest that supports Genesis available at ShareCG and other sites.
