Tara 2 includes the wings, tail, and a few horn options (though none that match the reference image). As a bonus, all the add-ons are compatible with G3 and G8 male as well.

  • Genesis 1 chest scale sliders with Ds 4.20

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the right forum for this question, I apologize if it's not, but I recently upgraded from DS 4.6 to 4.20.0.17 and Genesis 1 figures seem to have linked the arms and hands to the Chest Scale, Chest Width and Chest Depth values. If I change any of these values, the arms, hands and fingers get their scale % modified as well, introducing really bad shapes. For some reason also, Genesis 1 figures will always load with Victoria 5 set to 1.00 and some other various morphs dialed to strange values, actually overriding my original scene file values. Not sure if these two conditions are related. I don't think this was happening with prior Ds versions. Has anyone encountered this or has any ideas of how to fix it perhaps ? Thanks !

  • 3D Printing Licences - What?

Usually, there isn't a quantity number for commercial 3D printing but either a timed one (as long as you pay this this month, you can sell whatever you have for that month or you can sell for x amount of time-) or an unlimited one. Which is probably the better way to go. Limited numbers per license sound terrible to me.

Not because of the costs though, at ten cents a print($2=20prints), you'll make money (that said, the full no discount price is a bit outrageous). Big company minis are sold for like $10-60 on average. So after the cost of resin, postage, licenses, etsy/ebay fees, PayPal fees, packaging, fuel costs to transport, your time/energy/electric bill... yeah, there are a lot more costs associated with a 3d print shop than initially would seem. But still, ship only on one or two days a week, buy packaging in bulk, and sell your mini for $7-10 and you'll get there, but being large volume type sellers, you'll need a lot of licenses.

I imagine the biggest market for 3D printed Daz stuff would be stuff like that; D&D players looking for character minis or Warhammer players looking for army proxies, scalled at 28mm or 32mm.

You could do big statues, but those get complicated to finish and have a lot of labor needed to look nice. Maybe one aspect could be cosplay props, actually printing out wardrobe or prop articles and making 1-1 replicas. But again, that's a lot of work. You would be selling these items for hundreds each, due to the labor involved.

What I'm saying is that to be profitable won't be that hard (won't be easy either, unless you know what you're doing), either way, but we are talking about wildly different possible use case scenarios. I personally never buy a printing license unless it's a lifetime one. Too much to keep track of. I like to print the little things. I print big stuff sometimes too, but, as I said, that's too much work to do in any volume.

I don't know what I'm even getting at, but I'll take the free licenses and maybe sell a model or two, but this is going to get out of hand fast if you try to do any kind of volume and way too much work to keep on top of if there is such a limit of 20 per license. That's just asinine for something like this where WE will be setting up characters, hairs, outfits, poses, props- basically doing an entire scene with like 5-20 products (say your character is based off Anne for Victoria 8. That's at least 4 licenses right there; Anne, Victoria 8, Genesis 8, and a morph pack. Now dress her, kit her out, ext we're talking a lot of random licenses. Give her a different gun or hairstyle, and you're down two of your character's set of licenses, but only one on the sword or gun.

Much easier to go to Patreon or Kickstarter and get your licenses there. Both from a workload and a bookkeeping standpoint.

That said, there is a very real draw to take the dive into this and make my two hobbies and passions cross; modeling and rendering. I would love to have a go at buying licenses and printing Daz models.

    With one small caveat;

A number limit to the licenses would be an absolute deal breaker for me, and that's coming from someone that might actually do something with these licenses.

    P.S.

Sorry if that was inchoherant, was kinda train of thoughting that post.

Yes, those prices were totally thrown out there, but theyre basically based on the idea of doing small figures as promotional items that go with a larger ticket purchase or as part of an incentive package for something on Patreon or Kickstarter.  Basically one model would be printed, cleaned up, and resculpted as necessary, with the result then being broken down again and re-cast using more traditional techniques, with the final products being finished in a factory on an assembly line that specializes in things like Hot Toys.

what does licensing 3D Printing License for Daz Studio 4.x Pro give you?

That is probably the most important license to grab if you intend to do a 3D print commercially (and I can only assume that a one-time exclusive 3D print to give away to a randomly chosen Patreon supporter still counts as commercial, since it is a form of promotion).

It includes the 3D printing licenses for Genesis 2, 3 and 8 Essentials. Which means, it includes the Genesis 2, 3 and 8 base figures. Almost every Genesis 3 and 8 figure in the Daz store is based on the Genesis 3 and 8 figures. The mesh, the skeleton, the draping on top of the skin: all derivates of Genesis 3 and 8.

Now, imagine you want to 3D print Victoria 8 in some nice outfit with cool hair and a nice prop gun. You'll need licenses for the gun, the hair, the outfit, Victoria 8 *AND* Genesis 8 Essentials, since you'll be using all of those to create the figure.. But, who knows, maybe Daz will review this, and include full licenses for the core essentials in the future, since this is going a bit far, and someone official might rule sometime that their relevance and requirement is too obscure. It's hard to explain a customer that although he or she bought a figure and it's license, that he or she is still not allowed to print a 3D model out of it for someone else.

Short answer: Nope. Long answer: You might if you can talk the vendor into either selling you a license or allowing the print...

As near as I can tell, the Vendors are bound by the contractual terms of the DAZ EULA due to the item being sold via a DAZ license, so this would seem to restrict one to only using DAZ Original items... or items from another 3D store.  What do you want to bet that Renderosity and other store artists are going to be jumping all over this loophole while exclusively DAZ PAs will be left out in the cold?

  • Let vendors sell the morphs used to create an attractive character from other character sets.

Most of the attractive characters are used as promo images to showcase clothing.  In fact, I want that attractive character instead of whatever clothing is being show cased.
I am willing to pay $10.00 $20.00 or $30.00 for a list of morphs used to create an attractive character. So let's say the vendor owns: Victoria 8, Jacqueline 8.1, and Rune 7. Then from those morphs, and the default Genesis 7 & 8 morphs, they manage to make a very attractive character. I want to buy how that character was made.  So I essentially would be paying for the combination of morphs used to create that attractive character.  Whatever character assets needed, I would also have to buy.
One of the most time consuming processes is creating a highly attractive and charismatic character.  97% of DAZ people are not attractive enough for what I need.

A lot of you vendors know how to make very beautiful characters, and THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO BUY.  There should be some way to let you sell attractive character sets; the list of morphs used. Then we'll buy whatever characters were needed to make that attractive character.
It's very annoying to see an attractive character I could use in my work, but instead it's used to showcase clothing I don't need. I NEED THE ACTUAL ATTRACTIVE CHARACTER IN THE PROMO IMAGE.
I repeat, you don't know how time consuming it is making an attractive character from existing characters.  If I could pay like $50.00 for someone to make the attactive character, I'd prefer that, since most of DAZ people are not attractive out of the box.
Please allow vendors to start doing this within 30 days, no less. Thank you.

    Confirmed.

It looks like Daz didn't manage to implement the addition correctly. Oh, and the "what is this?" link leads to Interactive Licence explanation, not to the one for 3D printing.

Daz, why on Earth can't you test it before going live with it? *facepalm*

Trying hard to put this in the way I want to, what I'm trying to say is meant as a query: It was my understanding that under common law conditions that anything not explicitly controlled in a contract was permitted. Offering retrospective licences seems to be an attempt to retroactively re-write the contract and limit actions permitted under common law contracts. It is my understanding that this contract change would be hard to enforce in law, to the point of impossibility. Is my understanding correct (a request aimed at people with more contract law experience than I)? Regards, Richard ETA: must admit I am thinking more of my content obtained before anyone even thought about 3d printing (Victoria 3 era stuff, mostly).

  • If Michael and Victoria had a kid, or how to transfer head morphs between G8F & G8M?

    ggrancharov said:

I am working on a project where I need to somehow mix morphs between two characters, one being female and the other male. I searched the forums for a few days and read every thread there probably is on the topic, but unfortunatly most of them are looking at it from a 'transgender' perspective - and not a 'two adults having a child' perspective.

So, at least theoretically speaking a "kid" between Michael and Victoria would inherit 30% of Michaels body and headshape and 70% of victoria's body and head shape if its female [they have a daughter] or vice versa if it's a boy. I would then use a tool like Genesis 8 UV Swap to apply either Victorias or Miachels texture on the 'kid' and then use the 'grow up' plugin to get the mature kid into a real kid-like body.

Where I am stuck is the headshape/morphs. I need to find a way to be able to 'apply 50% of a G8M head' to a any G8F character and vice versa.

Has anyone ever looked into this?

I'd be happy to fund development of such a mod/workaround if there still is none.

    George

Sounds like you need to use the Transfer Utility to transfer the Michael 8.1 head morph to Victoria 8.1, and/or vice versa. This can easily be done within DAZ with tools provided. This will not have any Transgender transfers with it just the head morph. If you aren't familiar with the Transfer Utility, there are several good videos out there on how to use it. I will update this post after putting a quick class together.  I do this all the time, you get quite good at it after a few times! Reply here if you want a quick tutorial, TD

The Pythion is, I think, in Poser fprmat and probably has IK chainss et up in the CR2 file. Those can be edited  out (with a text  editor) - there are instructions around for doing it with Victoria 4 and Michael 4 I think.

    benniewoodell said:

I remember how with a new DO character, there'd be multiple characters released that utilized the DO character morph. So if you wanted a certain character to look how they should, you needed that specific core character. I don't really see that happening at all anymore.

Aside from that, I've found that if you want to use Daz characters in a program like Blender, even though Diffeo does an absolutely amazing job transferring the materials from Daz to Blender, I've found that some skins from a few PA's don't look right when you bring them over, it's not always guaranteed to look like it does in Daz, but I have never seen a DO character's materials not look stunning in Blender. Someone who really knows materials might know how to fix it, but I've tried playing around with some of the materials and never could figure out what the issue was. So I like getting the DO characters for their skins because I know I can bring them into Blender and it'll look how it should.

I remember those days. If I remember correctly, Victoria 7 was required for a phenomenal number of 3rd party characters. There were a few characters that required 'Sydney 8' that I never ended up buying because I didn't really want to pay for the base character on top, perhaps why the frequency of this 'base reliance' appears to have drastically reduced over the years.

That's interesting. Although I have downloaded Blender, I haven't yet had a chance to explore it and teach myself how it works. I suppose I'll find out about this issue soon(ish). Thanks for the heads-up.

I'm gonna say Tara 2 Human version with the brows removed using the Brow Remover script and replaced with the one of the fibermesh brows from the Super Natural Brows pack. Not sure which Vellus hair pack is being used though as there are several out there.
