I know the Mad Docter/Nurse outfits do that but they are also covered in blood which to me is frankly disgusting... but then, I suppose some people like the gore...

While I don't own those particular figures, I do have certain make-up sets and the 'Gore-Dom' product and would like to point out that it's not because I "like the gore", but because it's sometimes necessary for certain scenes I'm depicting. Especially of an action-based or medical-themed nature. :)

Wouldn't mind a male counterpart for Girl 6 either

Having just purchased Girl 6, the other day, I'm wholeheartedly seconding this. Mimicking Japanese cartoon styles isn't something I want to do, but Girl 6 allows me to reproduce Western, Disney/Pixar-style characters just beautifully. Watched 'Tangled' for the first time, yesterday and it occurred to me I could pretty much do something on a par with that, using Girl 6. If there was a corresponding 'Boy 6', I'd love to use it to do some Disney-style visuals.

Does anyone know if there was a similar 'Girl 5' for Genesis 1? I did a search, but couldn't find anything. 3D Universe's 'Jazlyn' seems to come closest.

Girl 5 got skipped last generation like David 4 was skipped in the Gen 4. DAZ always said they wouldn't do all the figures in all the generations. There was sort of a Guy 4

There's been a lot of discussion of these products here and in other threads. I'll just say that anything that makes for more compatibility between products of different generations gets a thumbs-up from me. So among my Top Ten Tools:

    - Genesis 2 clones and Gen4 iconic morphs
(including Genesis 2 Female Clone for Genesis, Genesis 2 Male Clone for Genesis, Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female, and Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male...plus there are others that probably belong here as well, but I haven't bought them yet). And though I haven't bought anything for Dawn yet, those who are working on, or have released, similar products for that figure deserve mention, too.

    - Sickle Rigging and Morphing System (see official discussion thread here) Can take some effort but often yields amazing results.

  • Is there any artist working on a real anime figure?

Now that we've had a few days to calm down and cool off... I'm curious as to what anime-style characters are already available.

I'll use the most broad definition: if the creator or vendor says it's an anime figure, then it's an anime figure. Here's the list of the ones I know of - who have I missed?

    Paid
Most of the figures listed here are also available in bundles with greater functionality.

Though she appeared to be harsh and jaded, Angela was had a heart of gold. She noticed that Adam was not so happy any longer and decided that he should go back home to get an education and that maybe he and his parents might be missing each other too. Also she liked his thoughts about urban planning and had high hopes for so him making some changes before 2166 rolled around again. Sal protested as Adam was his "right hand man," but Angela, well, Angela was the boss. And so Adam returned to 1959 and later became a renowned urban planner and futurologist.

    Part Two
For the next two and a half years later Adam accepted things as they came, though life in the future, this future anyway, was not as exciting as he had dreamed, and it was kind of dirty and grimey. It was great at first to not have school (public school was not mandatory, hooray!), but the replacement, doing grunt work at Sal's Air Car emporium, was usually more boring and repetitious than school had been. He normally had a happy smile though and enjoyed the friendly bantering and heckling with the other sentient species, and he also loved watching the air cars and cycles and the big cruisers departing and arriving from distant worlds.

Sal and Angela treated Adam pretty well, though they didn't have a lot in common with him. They had also come from an earlier time, but from "another kind of life", as Angela put it. Sal was mostly honest, but now and then an unhappy customer complained and brought the law. Sal had "connections" though, so it always came to nothing.

    Part One
Because he dreamed of a future world with flying cars, alien races, and towering buildings, Adam was both amazed and dazed when Sal and Angela invited him into the future. One morning in July of 1959, a mysterious little conservatory building showed up in the backyard of an unoccupied home in his neighboorhood. Young Adam, thirteen years old at the time, was wandering around in his usual restless state when he noticed the little building - and he noticed that it had a vaguely nebulous quality and a bit of sparkle. He jumped a fence and went to check it out and surprisingly was greeted by a booming voice.

"Hey, kid, yah gonna come over hea' an' visit o' not?"

Adam noticed them then, a short dark man wearing a red sportcoat with a tapestry vest and a very tall woman in a black shiny dress wearing a lots of makeup. Kind of a bizarre couple he thought, but they were smiling at him and there was something about them...
To keep this story somewhat brief - introductions were made; Sal and Angela took a strong liking to young Adam; they invited him to come back with them to their future world home; he agreed; off they went in the little building which, yes, was a kind of time machine.

You can do UV swapping in DS

    icprncss said:
There are texture files. A mat pose would not work if it didn't have the texture files they reference.

DS4.5 and up now use duf files rather than the older file formats. The Genesis 2 Female/Male and Generation 6 line require their textures to be in duf format. That is the reason the V4 to G2Female and M4 to G2Male products were created. These will help you transfer you older Gen 4 products to the newer line.

If you are looking for the texture files, go to the My Library folder where you installed your DS content. There should be a folder marked content. Inside that folder is a Runtime folder. Inside the runtime folder is folder labelled content. By default, may texture files install to this folder as that is the default folder mat poses reference.

You can do UV swapping in DS. G2Male and M6 use the M5 mapping by default. You need the this to use your M4 textures on M6

I know you can go from M4 to Genesis to M6 but I don't honestly know if you can go from M6 down to M4. Never tried it.

Odd question but are you using DS or Poser? That can make a difference as well.

How do you swap UVs in DS?

  • Noob_ can I use Victoria 4 clothing on Victoria 6?

Im not new to cg but I am new to daz. Trying to plan out what I need so I don't spend money on clothing or models that I didmt need. Daz doesn't do a good job on being clear on what works with what if your new. So I see that Victoria 4 has tons of clothing that I need for my story. Will that clothing fit Victoria 6 with the auto-fit? Also when looking at a product ant it states (product required: Michael 4, Michael Morph, bla bla) do i need all of those to use the product or just one?

    Invited Guest Contributor

Hi All and merry Christmas. I was very pleased to find a PM from Novica this morning inviting me to be a guest contributor. Thank you, Novica! Wow, this is a great thread - looks like I will be spending even more money here at DAZ after looking at some of these renders and reviews. And I was trying to cut down...

I did this when M4 for Genesis 2 Male (http://www.daz3d.com/people/michael-4-for-genesis-2-male) came out as I so love this morph, and that you can use M4 textures - I have a lot of those that I love! This one is Shaw (http://www.daz3d.com/shaw-for-m4) . I also used:
    Steam Cowboy for M4 http://www.daz3d.com/steam-cowboy
    Sci-Fi Corridor 2013 http://www.daz3d.com/sales-promotions/sci-fi-corridor-2013 On sale for 40% off!
    Creature Creator for Genesis 2 Female(s) http://www.daz3d.com/creature-creator-for-genesis-2-female-s
Genesis 2 Male Morphs Bundle http://www.daz3d.com/people/genesis-2-male-s-morphs-bundle
    and a few other things

I like the M4 for Genesis 2 Male so much mostly because of the nose. For me the Genesis 2 Male and M6 noses are a kind of specialized (kind of Irish maybe?) and hard to tweak into another shape. The head and neck shape are different also. You can use M4's textures and clothes too, which is awesome!

I love dialing morphs to make characters so I will have more of these coming. Also I am an avid participant in RRRR Render Contests so I will be posting renders with DAZ products used in somewhat odd ways.

  • I am done with Hexagon - any alternatives?

This is what I've been able to come with using Hexagon 2.5 on my XP Home OS. The characters are Michael 4 and the hair is from Neftis but everything else, clothing, set and creatures were modeled in Hex. I have a few things unticked in the Preference Editor and the only time it crashes on me is if I click too quickly while UV mapping.

  • Genesis, V5, and M5?

    circularreference said:
Hi there. Total newbie question. I know that the Gen2 and v6 models are all equivalent, yes? So does that mean the v5 models are all the same as original Genesis?

There are base figures and characters that are morphs of the base figure.

In generation 4, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 were base characters. Other generator 4 characters like Aliko 4 Stephanie 4 or The Girl 4 were morphs of Victoria 4.

In generation 5, Genesis is the base figure for both male and female characters. Victoria 5 and Michael 5 are both morphs of Genesis. Other characters like Stephanie 5 or Aiko 5 are also morphs of Genesis and do not require Victoria 5.

In generation 6, the Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male are the base figures. Victoria 6 is a morph of Genesis 2 Female. Other female characters like Olympia 6 are also morphs of Genesis 2 Female.

One of the innovations in Genesis technology is the support of multiple UV sets. A UV set controls how the 2D skin map is mapped onto the 3D model. The Genesis 1 figure comes supporting Genesis UVs and Victoria 4 UVs, so you can use Victoria 4 skins on Genesis as well. Any of the Genesis characters you find in the store which are for both V4 and Genesis are using V4 UVs on Genesis.

Most of the other Gen5 characters (V5, M5, Stephanie 5, ect) come with their own custom UVs which you get when you buy the character. These custom UVs presumably give better fit of the skin onto to the character's body shape with less stretching or compression of the skin. If a character in the store says it requires Victoria 5, this probably means the skin uses the V5 UVs and/or the body shape uses the V5 morph. Unfortunately, the store listings don't tell you.

Genesis 2 Female supports V5 UVs out of the box, but the skin presets still need to be translated to DUF format in some cases. The product Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female adds V4 UV support for G2F. Almost no V4 skin presets are in DUF format so they first have to be translated by loading them on Victoria 4 or Genesis and saving them as a material preset. The product V4 Skins Auto Converter for Genesis 2 Female(s) can help automate this process, but I have converted a number of skins without it.

  • How to make Genesis fit Genesis 2, and V4 fit V6, etc?

    circularreference said:
I was just curious. . . how do I get things like poses, clothing, expressions, and accessories like horns from Genesis, V4, and M4 to fit Genesis 2, V6, and M6? Is there a way? Can I even import these older items into the new file and tweak them to work manually or is there a better easier way?

Poses: For the most part poses for Genesis 1 or Victoria 4 will work on Genesis 2, but they don't work perfectly. Hands and feet usually need some adjustment. Sometimes more extensive adjustments are needed. The product Handy Dandy is useful for fixing hand and some foot poses between generations.

Clothing: DAZ Studio has auto fit technology built into it, but it requires so called "clones" for the figure for which the clothes was designed to do the auto fit. Genesis 2 Female comes with a clone for Genesis 1, so you can auto fit Genesis 1 clothes on Genesis 2 out of the box. The product Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female adds a Victoria 4 clone for G2F, so you can auto fit V4 clothes as well. The product Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male does the same thing for Michael 4 and Genesis 2 Male.

Now you need to realize the limitations of auto fit. It frequently does not work at all for shoes. It does not work well for long dresses or any clothes that has extra bones in them (things like long flowing shelves). The product Sickle Dress Rig Genesis 2 Female is a more complicated way of transferring long dresses to G2F that works in many cases when just auto fit does not work well.

Expressions: As far as I know, expressions don't transfer. Maybe someone else knows a way to do it.

Accessories: usually you can make these work by manually positioning them yourself.

  • Michael 4 Morphs not working on DAZ Pro 4.6 (latest version)

I have tried to move the files around and they show (only on Content Library, never on Smart Content) but still never do anything to the Michael Base figure. I read somewhere here (now I cannot find the topic again) that Pro 4.6 was having issues with Michael 4 Morphs; the member gave an option to do something with some tab on the Smart side and it shows a lot of files but they still dont do a thing.

So my question is, does Michael 4 morphs work with the latest DAZ program or not? because if not I'm going to ask for my money back. I think Michael 4 is an excelent base and I want to use it but if I cannot transform the figure to my needs there's no point in spending money on morphs when I can use that money in other items.

Hope somebody can guide me through this mess.

  • Michael 5 error message

    Hello everybody,
I'm hoping someone can tell me what I did wrong here. I recently downloaded and installed via the daz download manager, the Michael 5 figure. When I try to load it, I get the message that I have attached below and the resulting image is the one you can see also attached. I have both Michael 4 and 6 and they both work as they should so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Incidentally, I was doing this because I can't seem to get the aging morphs for Genesis to show up anywhere but the content folder. This is Daz 4.6, so it's Genesis 2, not the original and the OS is MAC OSX. As I said, the download and install were through the manager. Any help would be appreciated. I haven't been using Daz very long and I am certainly not an expert at installing various bits. Thank you.

Good point, it is getting personal.

Yes, there are some older products that still use (or used) the old Wise installer tthat does not work Mac's using certain OS's. If you purchased products that you couldn't install, you could have returned them within the 30 days for a refund without a problem.

It is also the reason DAZ made the decision to go with zips rather than stick to the installers.

One can always (with old installers, I think, because I cannot install Gabi for V5 as it says I don't have Evolution Bundle, which I do have) unpack the installer, make a package and use it in future reinstallments of DS. That's a normal thing an IT guy would do in case of such desire. I wish DAZ had BOTH options. Sometimes using an installer is easier, sometimes you prefer zips.

    * * *

In my humble opinion, old does not mean worse. New does not mean better. Preteen is rather old, but I'd kill for most of her characters Thorne/Mada/Sarsa made. Genesis doesn't have such cute faces no matter how much I adore this figure. What I'm going to tell is just my personal opinion, but Preteen characters often look much more realistic and believable than Dawn, which is 2013 (so if the newest meant the best, you'd be on cloud nine with her). Kozaburo's hair freebies were designed for Victoria 1 (!) and still they look fabulous for me, especially if you change the textures a bit. You can fit them with not much trouble or just download free refits, they are widely available. Ratorama makes wonderful refits of hairstyles that were designed for Poser folk like Jessi and the refits look like a hairdo you can find in DAZ, Rendo or RDNA. After Genesis, A3 is my favourite figure, even though she's quite old.

Remember that new doesn't mean better (look at a certain outfit people were so disappointed with after it came out, while many of them collected special points to get it for free - and compare it to its normal price). If you insist on using the newest, it's your choice and really, trust me, I don't mind it at all. Just don't try to make DAZ get rid of all "vintage", "retro" or however you call it.

As of labels, they work good for a single figure chosen. I'd appreciate an option to choose SEVERAL filters. Let's say, Genesis has so many shapes available that fitting a hairstyle designed for V4 or M4 is a piece of cake (the programme usually does it for you). So I want to find hairs that fit easily - I choose filters: Genesis, Victoria 4, Michael 4 - I should get a large number of stuff that's (by default, we can always try to translate, scale and whatever):
    - Genesis, V4, M4 compatible,
    - Genesis only compatible,
    - V4 compatible,
    - M4 compatible.

I hope such feature is going to be implemented soon. But if you only need a certain figure, then you have no problems with choosing a proper filter, I think.

I agree with pretty much everything you've stated and I really agree with the multiple filters option because that would be perfect!

Except new is better :P Nobody clamors for the original Ipod any more :p The old Apple Macintosh was a great computer that had a lot of uses... but nobody still uses it. :P

It may serve a purpose but it lacks the bells and whistles.

    Merry Christmas and thanks.
